What it says on the tin, got through most of the patch, had it fail, restarted and it gets to the 33.69MB of data in file one of two, and fails again, every time.

Does it fail or just stop? I found on my jetpack from verizon sometimes it stops with a couple files remaining. I then have to go into my WWAN and change the setting to finish downloading.

I am having this same problem but with the third to last file of the Wintersday update. I get the message that the download has failed at around 54MB. I have tried both disabling my firewall and running the client as an administrator but the result is the same each time.

Mine does the same thing, except that its on the 3rd last file, and it stops at 55.45 MB exactly, every single time with the error ‘Download Failed! Please check your internet connection and try again (2)’ except there should be nothing wrong with my net, and it seems stange that it should stop at the exact same spot every time regardless, it does not restart itself, and manually restarting it causes it to stop at the 55.45 MB point again.

Do you go through a router? If so try hooking direct to the PC. Also if you have windows defender you might want to try and disable that.

I am having the exact same problem as mentioned above, 3 files remaining and it stops telling me to check my internet connection and try again.

I have never had any problems with patches in the past. I have tried over 50 times now and its still stuck on 3 files.

Same for me. I don’t have Windows Defender active as I have Norton, but I have disabled that to try and get this patch.

I’m on the third last file too and it keeps failing. Quite frustrating.

Same thing here too, last time something like this happened I moved all the Guild Wars 2 files to a different computer, patched them, then moved them back.
Haven’t been able to try that this time though.

YEah me too as well. 3rd last file dumps me out at 55mb

Adding myself to this thread, also, because it seems we’re compiling a group of people having the same problem. I’m locked up at 1 file remaining, download speed of zilch. Tried disabling firewalls, antivirus, to no avail. Seems widespread…hopefully we can see a fix soon?

What’s the over-all size of this patch folks? Need to know if I should sit here and cross my fingers or walk away

opendns 208.67.222.222 works too. I use google as fallback dns.

Performance varies for everyone. Try http://code.google.com/p/namebench/ to find the best dns for your current location.

indeed kirito, however the idea was in this case to get them off of a spiked DNS pool

Not working for me, I end up with around a 10kb/s download. Are there any ones that work for Australians?

Kirillby, open up an elevated command prompt and type “ipconfig /flushdns”
hit enter
then enter “ipconfig /renew all” and hit enter

what isp are you on btw, i got the update no problems through iiNet/Google DNS.

Ok, currently using 8.8.4.4. and getting a 30kb/s, figure I’ll just let that run and hopefully it works. Not really sure on the ISP, I’m visiting the parents for the holidays and have no idea what plan they have.

30KB is kind of slow

is it one of those 3G/Wireless broadband sticks or a land line?

you can check your current ip’s information via http://www.ip-adress.com/ip_tracer/

the page will by default show you your current ip, isp, and make a guestimate of your geolocation

Landline, just really cheap internet since its not used often. The DNS also didn’t work, got to 55MBs again and failed, same problem :\

I would stop dowloading this patch because it’s screwing with everyone’s computer, Windows & Mac…get black screen and the game won’t start.

don’t use general statements like “everyone’s computer”

these issues are mostly isolated to small groups.

Kirilby, If you happen to be in a region of victoria, there are currently some infrastructure issues due to storm damage that was supposed to have been fixed yesterday, but Dodo afaik, is on Telstra’s network and suffers from lazy/poorly trained subcontractors.

Alright, i’ve just checked over at whirlpool, and you are looking at an ISP issue atm Kirilby

one of the Akamai clusters dodo uses for caching is polluting http connections with corrupted data. Many dodo users have been experiencing corrupted downloads and slow performance in the past 2 weeks.

This worked like a charm for me. Changed the wireless adapter’s settings to use DNS 8.8.8.8 with secondary 8.8.4.4 and it updated without a problem. I’m using Dodo ADSL2+.
It started off downloading at approximately 100-150kb/s, but dropped to 10-30kb/s toward the end, but it worked beautifully. I’m also updating stuff on my iPad which probably affected the speed too

S: I’ve got the same Problem, however when I change my DNS I’m getting only like 10kb/s, soon after it proceeds to drop to 0.00. I’ve tried flushing my DNS is there a method that could hopefully speed this process up?

try using opendns instead

Sorry that I kind of re-open this thread again, but unfortunately I experience the same problem that GW2 persists downloading the last file, no matter if I choose for DNS 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4 or if I use the ones namebench qualifies as being the best for my connection (attached screenshot for illustration).

Also tried all other given solutions (also by the GW2 support):
- delete old gw2.dat and use downloaded setup client instead the one provided on the DVD
- Deactivate all system start items in MSCONFIG
- Deactivate all services in MSCONFIG except Microsoft ones
- gw2.exe -repair
- gw2.exe -diag (all tests successful)

I’m running a Huawei E180 mobile internet connection with max 7.2 MBit/s, could that be a possible reason why it’s not working as it might be too slow?

I also have this problem at the last file. I have tried all of the listed fixes with no success. As this appears to be a repeating problem(several of my friends who play GW2 have had it) it would seem that Anet should be fixing it no? Any other fixes out there that have worked for people? If this was some f2p this would be perfectly understandable, but for a purchased game, this seems a bit… unacceptable.

A person on the Mac forums said they had this issue and he said “changing the language in the top right corner caused the whole patch to re-download and complete” he did note that Spanish did not work, but French did. Try to let the file download completely before switching back to your default language. (the devs recommend waiting 10-20 minutes, but some peeps have reported it taking overnight plus several more hours)

This may or may not work for you guys, but maybe if a dev sees it, it could help then to troubleshoot this issue.

Please post back and let me know if this interesting suggestion works for any of you.

This is bump worthy simply because it has not been fixed for everyone. Like the very few, altering the DNS does not work. I’ve tried many other methods. Very rarely do I ever have to contact costumer support or seek help. It’s usually people asking me v_v

Anyways.. My last attempt is testing the language change patch. Like you said, it starts up a new patch. In my case, it’s the whole game. I’ll post again if it works or does not work.

Sivantes, some have also said changing the language to German works as well.

But it none of the posted fixes that some have found work for you, you may have to submit a ticket to get to the bottom of your issue.
