My wife is still suffering migraines/nausea post FoV patch. Is there any hope to us getting a FoV slider ingame to get a nice FoV 90? She still can’t play more than 20mins without suffering for it and she desperately wants to at least finish the game.

Still nauseating & unplayable at 16:9, have to shrink window vertically.

This issue is literally and figuratively a buzzkill.
All of my long time gaming friends are playing Guild Wars 2 with the exception of my friend and I because of the nausea, headaches, and eye aches.
I’m now trying to play despite the struggle. Now, not only do I get a physical headache from the camera+fov strain, but a mental one because the client disconnects every 5 minutes.
Please just implement 90 FOV without having to shrink the window to half the vertical height. (It’s 2013). Thanks. I’ll deal with the disconnects for eternity if you just fix this.

Yes, sorry for taking so long to give my feedback, but I suffered from motion sickness because of the camera before the FoV update.. when the patch came out I tried it, but after feeling the game was easier to play for a little longer, I still had the same problems..
The FoV change helped a bit, but the camera movement and how it works on impact with scenario makes it unplayable for me.
Since its launch, GW2 was and still is the game I want to play most, but I just can’t.

Thanks again for " -useOldFoV".
Please keep that around.

No change for me at all. and i correctly setup the cmd..
but yeah, like mtsa said, no matter the fov, the camera is the WORSE camera i ever saw in a game. especialy because it will “hit” every little object in the game who is between the point of view and the character, so you always have fr***ing zoom in.
This just horrific during puzzle jump, when you are inside a building and so.
You should better fix that awfull terribad camera first.

This is the worst of all cameras in any mmorpg! They need to fix it, and make FOV slider up to 95. I think now is 65 or 70., to low for 16:10 monitors.

Oddly enough, if you’re feeling claustrophobic while playing, or if everything just feels constricted to you in general in GW2, FoV only becomes part of the solution:
Other factors, such as camera height and the high amount of environmental “gigantification” GW2 suffers from, comes into play. Because of this, your character will feel like the size of a mini-pet, incl. the feeling that you’re only really getting ground textures in your view on 16:9 monitors.
And because if the odd collision issues with the camera (incl. ground collision), it makes it quite a chore to do something as simple as ‘look up’ comfortably … especially on smaller characters.
So while this FoV ‘correction’ is (well, was) a step in the right direction, I strongly believe more options to control the camera should be available … but good luck getting that through to the devs. It’s been like … almost a year now since release and I fear the whole team must be terribly pressured to pump out new content. Don’t know. Maybe one day we’ll see improvements in the camera area.

I highly doubt the content team has anything to do with the client. That said, I highly doubt there is a client team currently active. No optimizations, etc. for the client in ages, almost since launch.

So what is the FOV that is currently being used and does it change based on the resolution you pick in game?
For instance if you pick a 4:3 resoluton the FOV should be 90, vs if you pick a 16:9 or 16:10 the FOV should be around 106.

GW2 really needs a higher FOV, this would improve almost everything from immersion to gameplay. No content patch could improve the game as much as a FOV change (beside a full-sized addon, which would suffer from FOV itself). FOV should be first priority, then overall camera behavior. More content doesnt help preventing gameplay from not feeling as intuitive as it should by standard.

I can’t look up wiht camera, because the character is blocking my view.
I noticed that they wanted camera to be like in Mass Effect, when you look up your character is observed from underneath – Shepard occupies the entire frame! But Mass Effect is not MMORPG, it is a third person shooter, and the camera is good for that type of game.
I think that engie is “bad coded” or something. So they can’t increase FOV any more than this. They need to enable first person mode also, so that we can normaly play in interiors, and to make screenshoots.
They need to increase FOV, make firs person camera and they need to center camera on the head of the character not on the back.
PS. Sorry for bad English.

“nausea, headaches, and eye aches.”
Basically this.
The game looks and feels better on 16:9 after the FOV change, but it still hurts eyes and gives headache. Which is sad, as I wanted to finally immerse myself into the world, but can’t suffer to play more than few days because of this.

-snip-
The center point of the camera (axel/pivot point) is just too low on some characters. I’ve abandoned my human/sylvari/asura characters mostly because of this (and it’s a great shame, because I love the sylvari and asura races in general).
I roll norn female characters now – the norn and charr have a higher camera pivot in general, and if you make these characters short, the center point aligns somewhat with your character’s head (and not the chest).
At this time, we really need 2 new options for the camera:
They also need to tweak the sensitivity of the camera collision, and make certain free-standing objects and pillars non-colliding with the camera (like you see in most games anyway).
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: neneza.6954
^ That would be great. After 1 year they must do this options you mentioned.
Sensitivity of the camera collision with objects – I hate it! The smalest object in the game will make the camera zooms in somekind of “bugged fps view” and player can’t rotate the camera, it will “freeze”.
So yes, we need:
1. Camera vertical offset slider, like to horizontal one we have in the game,
2. FOV slider
3. They need to tweak sensitivity of the camera collision with certain objects in the game.
Is that so hard to do?

I did exactly what it told me, nothing changed..
It’s still really hard to play WvW or PvP with azuras, can’t see anything..
Here is before and after (first is after):

Because this change has already been implemented. There is a command line parameter that removes the fov change back to what it was at launch.

Yes that zoom in and out constantly gives me the worst headache. But don’t expect a fix for a year or so, they are busy making GW keyboards, books and new dyes! No time for performance/issues like this.

Yea man, I don’t know.. this is the most active thread in this support forum session, it’s even pinned, and we don’t get any word from the devs. :/
Please let me play the game w/o feeling nausea, headaches, and eye aches!
Weren’t there enough players reporting these symptoms and/or complaining about the camera to be worth looking into the problem?
Well, maybe not, unfortunately. :~

I haven’t been able to play at all recently, and most of my friends suffer from the same thing ADD A FOV SLIDER I BEG OF YOU, it’s come to the point that we’d rather not play than feel like complete carp, I still don’t understand why this had not been implemented, LOOK at the demand Arenanet!! it’s not just one or two people!!

#IN for sliders to FoV and Camera Zoom if it’s possible to implement.

I’m playing on a surround gaming setup, and have to say that I love the fov change. Here’s a couple caps, first without the fov test, the second with it.

Come on guys. Look to what PVE team is doing – creating great events, open raids that are breaking big zergs… They are listening to our critics. Don’t be so lazy, the game is 1 year and 6 months old now, and you still didn’t made FOV slider?! Come on, please make the FOV slider.

I bought two more monitors today and the first thing I did was change my GW2 shortcut for this.
Firstly, it looks absolutely amazing. A little fat at the edges though but whatever. I like it haha.

Unbelievable. I’ve never seen this kind of block headedness in a game’s settings (well ok, Crysis 2 at release was pretty awful) but SERIOUSLY ANET?
You constantly create such awesome game content but you can’t get just small group of people to hash out a true FOV slider and move the camera away from our character’s kitten The horizontal camera slider is worthless.
Vertical Camera slider.
FOV slider.
Done.
Did someone accidentally drop GW2’s source code in the recycle bin or something?

Vertical Camera slider.
FOV slider.
Done.
That would be great!
Especially vertical slider, to focus camera to the head not to middle of the back, and ofc first person mode. So we could play normally in interiors.

Please let us adjust the FOV how we want it. The camera is still claustrophobic when using the full screen. I want to set it to 100, that’s what I use in other games.
I have to play with the GW2 window shrunk vertically to half it’s normal size, instead of using the whole screen. If I don’t do that, then the FOV is so low, and when fighting, I can’t see what’s going on around me. I can’t see who’s friend or foe. I just auto-attack, look at the bar bellow my skills to see if it’s red (out of rage), and hope for the best. I can’t see where my downed friends are so I can revive them. I just run in circles until the blue resurrect pop ups appears, so I can press F.
I can’t become a better skilled player if I can’t have a higher FOV, because I can’t see what’s happening or what I’m doing.
The user interface also becomes much smaller the more I shrink the window. This lets me see more around me because the UI isn’t cluttering the screen. Note how I can shove the chat and map directly left and right of my skill bar, but if I go full screen, there’s no room and instead it goes above it.
On the images that show the UI, note how the NPCs are on my face and there’s no room to see anything else. How do you think a melee character feels, fighting that close? Let me tell you, sick, that’s how.
But when I shrink the window, they there’s a lot more room to see what’s going on around me, and I don’t get sick.
Each of us need different FOV settings, depending on our eyes, distance to computer, screen size, and personal preference. What provides enough field of view for one person is too zoomed in for another person and can make them sick.

Game is totally unplayable for me sadly, the lack of a fov slider makes me sick within 10 mins of logging on. Hope it’ll get added soon or at least get the default up to 90 or so.

Is there a way to increase the fov? I just bought this with the 50% off but I can’t play more than 15 minutes without getting dizzy and feel like vomiting.

“nausea, headaches, and eye aches.”
yup still causes this for me, fov tool allowed me to play for many hours without headake as long as i avoided large groups of people(because, you know the games perf sucks even on top end systems)
wish they would just add a kitten able slider and allow up to 120fov, they could even limit the pvp fov or have a separate slider for that.

i would not say HUGE difference but still…
1 – gw035.jpg – without FOV
2 – gw034.jpg – with FOV
i will have to see how it’s gonna work in WvW with massive blobs…

I know this isn’t exactly the right place for this but since its about the view and cameras, would it be possible to not have the camera spin when I get downed? Its just annoying.

Don’t expect an answer, but did the change (recently or not so recently) how close the camera is ‘one mouse wheel notch back from zoomed in as far as you can’ while using the -useOldFoV switch? It seems like it used to be closer.
