Well i had created a thread earlier abt low fps with WvW. Like < 10 fps.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/What-is-being-done-about-AMD-CPU-performance/first#post300262

My config etc is there. So ive finally solved the issue. wanna know how? by shifting to intel core i5 3550.. Yup.. finally shifted from amd to intel. And boy, even in the most crowded zergs I get 50 ish fps at the best appearance settings @1200p. So this proves that Arenanet have totally ignored/sabotaged optimization for amd cpus. Nothing changed apart from the proccy and mobo.

Hope this helps someone building a pc..

You don’t go below 50 fps in large battles? I have a i5 3570k overclocked to 4.2 and I drop to the low 20’s in really big battles.

I’d rather give up on Gw2 than throwing 200 euros on new processor. For now i just avoid zergs with +40 ppl.
Who would thought that they programmed it so poorly.

TBH it only seems they optimized this game for the i5 and i7 range because everything else seems to just bottleneck. In times when it matters most like zerg fights and such the load suddenly goes onto the CPU and bottlenecks the GPU shouldn’t it be the opposite?

That all depends on how they coded it. And theories where people say ohh theres like 50 ppl, u need to compute their movement etc is crap. That view is naive and doesnt even come close to an estimation of a modern processor. I friggin used to play wow on my p4 with same size zergs and never had an issue.

The i5 and amd does have a difference in instruction sets even though both are x86_64. This can happen if they built something optimal ONLY for the i5 instruction set. Which , unless deliberately done is kinda hard to do. I really dont like the looks of it.

50 fps in the most crowded zergs…?
I think your fps value is not correct. :p

There is no cpu that can handle crowded WvW zerg in this game (35-40+ minumum fps). :p

About to switch to a 3570 my self.
Wasn’t really gonna go for it but now with the halloween events and getting like 20 fps all the time in Lion’s Arch on my phenom II @4 Ghz .. Getting really annoyed.

Pls tell me you I5 3570 users are getting descent FPS in LA with the events going etc,,

Oh another that says “I don’t get below 50fps in WvWvW” post, I’m not buying it. iMetalliX said he doesn’t drop below 60fps, but didn’t state what system he has.

Also back in early Sept I recorded this video I put up on Youtube, back then I was able to get ~35fps (drops below 25fps while video is recording) with the system in my sig but after the Oct patches I can barely pass 20fps in the same fight as in the video.

You’re just going to get other i5 users telling you that they’re not sustaining 50fps while in pvp.

sabotaged? Are you implying Arena, for unknown reasons, put code in to run slower on AMD? That makes no sense to me.

Blizzard did it with WoW, strangely that game runs way better on Intels.

Blizzard and ANet didn’t sabotage their games to run worse on AMD. AMD sabotaged itself when it released CPUs with abysmal performance-per-cycle.

Op mentioned he was talking about 30-40 man zergs ..In which case his FPS is correct ..hats about right.

However OP.. most people when you say WvWvW zergs ..think 70man+. At which point the average top end OC’d Intel cpu’s manage around 30-40 FPS.

Not really, AMD keeps up with Intel on many games according to some benchmarks I’ve seen over at Overclockers, Tomshardware, Anandtech and etc, like Skyrim, Dragon Age Origin, Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, Battlefield 3 (kind of irrelevent since that’s a GPU bound game), etc. but with WoW, i7 and i5’s goes about ~100 fps higher than the AMD’s rather than ~5-15 fps above AMD on other games.

People never cared about single-threaded performance during the P4 era because back then there only was one core. If you compare the max FPS for any given game (not min or avg), AMD’s far behind.

Intel being 100% ahead doesn’t sound like AMD keeping up to me.

@deltaconnected

Actually people cared alot about single threaded performance during the P4 era. Most applications are single threaded. Multi-threading programming is painful.

AMD will keep up sooner or later. I expect good developments next year. Soon the PS4 will be released and AMD APU will be a common platform in which development tools etc has to be made This also means that its cpu architecture will be fully understood and compilers will be able to extract as much performance as possible.
