Fatal Error: Fatal disk-error (23)
You may want to check your hard drive for bad sectors mate
If your not sure how to check:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265
If it comes up clean on your D Drive then uninstall and reinstall the game
Seems your GW2 Data file is unreadable (bad sectors) or corrupt
Do the above; but also try this:
Right click on your “Guild Wars 2” shortcut
Click on the Target field
At the end of the target field enter this " -repair"
Run the GW2 repair(the shortcut). Once completed go into the shortcut and remove the “-repair”. Then try the game again.
If this does not work, try downloading Auslogic’s Disk Defragmenter.
Run the Defrag, try GW2.
If this does not work re install GW2
If the problem still does not work, You have a bad HDD.
You can get a 1TB HDD for 50 bucks. Cheap fix
Good Luck to you sir. MSG me if you have any issues.
I came accross the same issue when i bought the game so what i did is went to the Guildwars2 website and downloaded the game client from the website and my problem was solved. Good Luck! Have Fun!!
I was getting this error. Tried starting with “-repair”, then renamed gw2.dat and ran with -repair, ran a disk check (ran 41/2 hours) not a single problem or sector bad. I noticed that the GW2.dat file had grown to over 15GB. My Anti-virus was set to “on access” which means that when a file is opened or read or written to it is scanned by the anti-virus software before the read or write is allowed to continue. I added the GW2.dat and exe to the exclusion list and so far the game has started up without errors 3 times in a row. I had the same problem at work were company live data files were in excess of 30 GB and the antivirus was set to check “on access” and the antivirus was failing which caused the application disk read or write to fail.
Most decent AV’s actually exclude large files automatically, (or exclude file scanning for current in memory scanning to prevent excessive file IO)
Except for the fact i try to solve the problem myself at the moment, and that even a SSD drive got this Problem….
You really think 3-4% of the player of GW2 are all having spontanius HDD goin bad issue? Check out the error, it´s like a red line goin through the support forums. And it seems always to be the Error 23 code. Honestly, i dont belive it´s a Mechanical error anymore. It feels more like a corruption in a registryfile or the personal settings. I am still fighting with it. Even a reinstall on 2 seperate partitions of the Same HDD and a Test from a Flashdrive didnt solve the Error 23 code. And sorry but the chances that a Flashdrive and the HDD gettin both a Bad Sector that Diagnostic tools cant find and only with 1 game? The chances are extremly slim to none.
Well i keep fighting and try to get my game runnin again. But i am mostly out of options and idears.
HI THERE i did read a lot of topics about this and you guys must to know this aint a problem with the Hard drive…. i got a new computer that mean new HD and the game crash.. this is problem from game and not from computer,,,, so now tell us how to repair since its not computer problem,,,
I’m having this same issue, and what is worse, this error appeared DURING the “-repair” of GW2. that’s just stupid… It can’t even repair itself.
I noticed this happens when I update the game. What I have to do is to download the update in one computer and copy and replace the “GW2.dat” file to my other ocmputer and the error disappears.
It must mean then that the dat file is getting corrupted…
