I’ve recently changed households and set up a new internet connection. It’s the same ISP that I’ve used in my old house, only a different modem (ZyXEL PK5001z). Since switching, I can only go around 15-30 minutes (sometimes shorter, sometimes longer) without being disconnected at random. I get booted to the character select screen, with the error message popping up saying,

“The game client lost its connection to the server. Please wait a few minutes before restarting the client and trying again. (Code=7:11:3:189:101)”

I don’t think it’s connectivity issues with my network on the whole, as applications like Mumble and Steam don’t lose connection to their respective services, and my browser still works fine immediately after alt+tabbing after a disconnect. I can also immediately get back in game after a disconnect.

Here’s what I’ve tried:

-Restarting the client and waiting
-Forwarded the necessary ports (80, 443, 6112 and 6600) in modem’s GUI
-Disabled modem’s built-in firewall
-Ran GW2 shortcut with the port test (/clientport 80) in the target line
-Made exceptions for GW2 and its ports in Windows Firewall
-Rebooted my modem and computer

In addition, something I’ve noticed is that if its been a while since I ran GW2, the game will start desyncing (lag spike for around 5-10 seconds) at the random intervals, then it will start disconnecting instead.

I am also experiencing the disconnects, it started to occur after they ran that maintenance and warned us of ‘connection issues’…That day it only happened once.

But when I logged on today it happened when I was in WvW so I thought that it was the mass amount of people that lagged me out – though that was never a problem from me since headstart.

So I logged back in and into WvW – d/c again, when I relogged, I decided to quest/explore and soon enough I got another d/c.
Wondering what it is causing my random d/c I ran my virus/spyware test and nothing came up!

(I noticed my mumble was disconnected/reconnected and there I believed I came to a conclusion it was my internet doing some hiccups? I don’t know but I have a pretty fast internet…I did also notice that when I exit the client and restart it to the logon panel – when I press “log in” it takes time to load up the bulletin to proceed to press the “play” button)

I have never “really” disconnected from the game and when I do its usually my ISP acting up. Having a fast internet dont mean &*%#@$ if the line has gone bad.

Try unplugging the cable line unplug the modem then reboot your computer. Then plug it back it and see if this issue persists.. If it does, call your internet provider and let them know that you are having an issue with your internet dropping your connection. They will make you go through the same steps, that you have already done. But they should test your signal and hopefully resend it if needed. Are you wireless or hardwired?

I had this problem yesterday with no change at all in my setup. I opened the ports they suggest and it started working find again with no dc’s at all today. Pretty strange to have to mess around opening ports when it has been working fine for a month but hey, if it fixes the issue idc

Coo!

I started having the same issues in the past 2 or 3 weeks. My connection with Centurylink is horrible at the best of times. But at least when it worked, it worked. When they gave me a new Zyxel PK5001Z, my connection became much more stable. But I started having drops with Guild Wars 2 every few minutes. It was especially bad during transitions, like from map to map. I finally switched back to the crappy Westell I’ve been using. I’ve setup everything I can think of properly for the PK5001z. Something in the firmware of that modem just drops the connection for GW2 like a bad habit. Even with ports open, no Firewalls, etc; the connection and that modem will not work. I’d suggest contacting Qwest or Centurylink, whichever your ISP is, and see if they will send you the 5000z or the Westell 8100. I’ve spent days trying to figure out a way to use the 5001z, but it just won’t work with GW2.

I have the same problem… It started with my Norn guardian for the lvl31 mission to join the priory, a few days later and still on going, I can not do any storyline missions for any of my characters. this leaves me with characters of level 37, 24, 47 and others stuck on story missions for lvl 31, 19, 45… Its a little discouraging

The game have just recently become completely unplayable for me, severe lag with several seconds (sometimes even up to 5+, all the way up to 10 seconds) delay on any ability, and almost every 5 min I get booted to char screen saying I lost connection.

Nothing wrong with my connection, no problem playing any other game online.

Same problem, started with the recent maintenance (though I had a couple of crashes with the 12/3 patch, nothing like lately). Just my computer though; the girlfriend plays fine through the same wireless network.

Haven’t seen a satisfactory response from ANet though; just more requests for information, no acknowledgement that there is a problem.

Re: ZyXEL PK5001z

I had it confirmed from CenturyLink that this is a known problem with this particular modem. There is a firmware upgrade that will be pushed through on Friday, Dec 14th. After that, if you still experience issues (and I have the exact same thing after moving out of my cable zone and into CenturyLink’s DSL zone) then they will replace the modem with the Westell modem at no cost.

Cross your fingers that this fixes the issue, because it has me pretty well stopped from doing story missions. At least dungeons I can get back into though I have missed out on killing the final boss because of it!

I stopped playing because it was so bad. It really makes the game unplayable to do 75+ story missions solo only to get kicked over and over when the connection pauses. Heck, I even beat the last one I did, but because the modem did it’s pause, I lost connection to GW2. That was around the last time I even played.

Well that and the horrible November world events really irked me beyond belief.
