Is anyone else having this problem? No matter what I try, the last 3 files are not downloading, so I can’t play the game. Besides suffering from the constant error 7s, error 42s, this is just the last straw.

Same. Only difference is I made it to the last file :P

This has happened with every update so far: The game updates just fine up to the last 3 or 2 files. Then the download rate drops to 0kb/s. Restarting the launcher actually helps to resume the download but only up to the last 1 remaining file. Restarting does nothing at this point. It will download a few kb and just stop (see screenshot).

Actually, in the past I was able to make the launcher download the last file by starting it in XP compatibility mode. But ANet seems to have fixed this “workaround”

This has happened with every update. And every time there is a thread about it in this forum. Yet there hasn’t been an official response, at all.

I too, have the same issue as above with rjones.7694. I have restarted my over 10 times and each time i get 2kbs download then zero and it just sits. In the past a few restarts would finally get it done but today is doing nothing.

Maybe a resume download button or show that it is installing? Or fix the problem all together :/

I still have not been able to play yet. The game launcher continues to be stuck at 3 files left and there is nothing that I have tried that has worked. Opened support ticket but only the tyrian gods know how long they will take to get back to me.
Posted several times in forum but only you two have replied, having the same issue. I can not download the entire game again as I am on mobile broadband at the moment so want to know if we can download the patch file only so we can apply that and hopefully fix our issue.

As it is right now this game is providing more headaches and problems than any other mmo I have played in the past, and I have been playing mmo’s since the late 90s.

I managed to restore a previous version of the game dat file in the game installation folder and it started the patch process from scratch, however when 3 files remained, the same problem happened, the download speed went down to 0 and now it is just stuck there and I still can NOT play.

I’m on mobile broadband, too. I’m pretty sure this is somehow related to the problem.

The other day I’ve also tried updating from an older version that was still on my external hd and it actually worked!

But yeah, the thing is I’ve tried so many things before already and some actually worked but today: just no luck.

It almost looks like their patching away those workarounds

eta the things I’ve tried:
- update from older version
- run the launcher in xp compatibility mode
- the assetsrv command switch with various IPs I found posted on forums
- delete local.dat that sometimes gets created

Each of those and various combinations of all of them have worked in the past. None today.

The repair option has the same problem as the update. It downloads data and then just stops after a while.

Redownloading everything is kittens because of bandwidth limits. Also pointless because nothing is broken or missing except those last few kb in the last file.

If it was the mobile broadband why would it allow to update almost 2000 files but then get stuck when only 3 files are remaining and the update process is at 99%? It just doesn’t make sense….

That’s only a question NCsoft’s network admins can answer.

haha, I like how they filter out swear words (didn’t know “kitten#8221; was a swear word) and replace them with the word “kitten”. Anyway, hopefully NCSOFT formally admit this issue as they have not said a single word and I have tweeted this and posted several times on this forum as well as submitted a support ticket and no formal response has been received yet.

Have you tried looking for the corrupted files in your game folder or the GW2 folder under “My Documents” and deleting them, if they exist? That seems to have solved the problem for a few folks.

There was a local.dat there too with a bunch log files. Deleted them. Problem persists.

Funny thing that happened concerning the mobile broadband idea: When I tried logging in to the forums ANet wanted me to authorise. Looks like I’m connecting from a completely different location this time! (spoiler: I’m not)

Still the same network problem. Still stuck at the last file. Still only 33kb before it dies.

Oh, and while I’m kittening about the update process: Whoever thought that the first phase of the update being a completely different UX should go into production?

There are so many posts on the forum by people who don’t know what the feline is going on. And rightfully so because what is this?

eta: After I took the screenshot it went to 0kb/s and that’s all. No error, no notification, nothing.

After 20+ tries, i finally got through downloading that last file. Keep closing the launcher and reopening it. Hopefully everyone else has the same success.

^^^ Tried that right now. It went to 33kb every time and stopped. Idk maybe it’s just random.

I FOUND A FIX!!!!! (after searching and searching on the net-copied from thesparrowsjourney)

1. So, for the first step go to your start button and on the search box type cmd and hit enter (you should run cmd.exe). Then you get this DOS like box. This is where you type ipconfig -flushdns (hit enter) and then type ipconfig -registerdns (hit enter and wait about 10 seconds).

2. After this, and this step is what really did it for me, change your DNS settings. To do that, go to your network connections panel (you can access it by going to start»control panel»network and sharing center»change adapter settings (the option on the left). And then right click on your local connection icon and hit properties. Then you get this list of items, click on the one that says internet protocol version 4 and hit the properties button.

3. Finally this is where you change your DNS settings. You don’t need to change the IP adresses. So on the first fields type 8.8.8.8 and on the second field (alternate) type 8.8.4.4. Hit ok, close all these windows, wait about 20 seconds (sometimes more it depends on the internet conection) to settle up. And try to execute the launcher. If it runs smoothly then it has been fixed

I’m gonna leave it for now but I should change back to the original configuration sometime soon (just clear the fields where you’ve entered the numbers). If you still have problems figuring out how to do this, I will gladly make a video and post how to do it!

I fixed the problem by resetting my mobile broadband card

I am on Verizon MiFi and switching from 4g to 3g for the last file allowed it to download.

Those last 3 replies are all good tips!

I’ve changed my DNS setting before (but didn’t remember when posting) but something’s happened between my last post and now and I was finally able to download the last file!

There’s definitely been a reset and maybe it changed my network speed. I don’t know.
This is some strange kind of voodoo going on. All of the things posted in this thread sometimes work and sometimes they don’t.

But I’ll be sure to try all of them the next time this happens again. (Which will probably be with the next patch)

I am still stuck, now it doesn’t even go to the login screen, it just stays on downloading updates and all the switches like -repair and -image do not work now. I am stuck at the final 2% of the last small file left, probably a few kilobytes big only. Keepfaith, where did you get the DNS server IP addresses from? Why 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 specifically? Please elaborate, thanks.

Keepfaith, I tried your suggestion once more and unfortunately, it doesn’t do anything at all for me. I get stuck when I am on the last file, at 98%. After that, all I can do is delete the temporary game dat file in my documents and try again, it downloads very quickly until it reaches 98% and 1.62MB downloaded and then download speed reaches 0 and stops there where it remains all day.

Just to add that my mobile broadband is on 3G already, so no idea what more to do. I am only using the mobile broadband until I get my new landline installed from which I will have a new broadband contract (the highest speed package) and crossing my fingers that it will work then, but very unsatisfied that I am not getting any reply from ANet regarding my questions, as to why this is happening, and why can’t they enable an emergency patch file so that we can MANUALLY download it and apply it on our laptops/PCs. The complete lack of response regarding this type of issues is insulting to all of us that are experiencing it and it started yesterday morning with their patch of yesterday. Very unprofessional I must say.

I haven’t read through all the posts in this thread but I have read enough to know I’m looking at the same issue that myself and many others were having at the official game launch. At the time A-net had not brought it’s forums on-line yet so we were all working this out together on Curse’s GW2 Guru forums and through trial and error we were all finally able to get it solved, patching and running fine.

I responded to another player’s thread in this forum having this issue as well and in that response I posted links to all the relevant threads on the Curse Guru GW2 Tech forum. They can all be found in the link below to the other player’s thread here and the fixes we discovered / stumbled on should help you guys get back up and running hopefully. Believe me I TRULY FEEL your pain :P!

One trait seemed to be similar for many but not hardly all of us and that was having Avast or AVG antivirus. That was only one small part of it though, read through those threads and you should be able to fix from what’s there. Start with the suggestion a few posts up though to change your command line in the “Target” window of the Properties tab of your Desktop shortcut. If you don’t have a desktop shortcut go ahead and make one (at least for experimenting purposes if no other) and alter the target command line as follows to specify it to:

“C:\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -assetsrv 173.223.232.138

Use that command line exactly character for character (altering only to specify which folder your GW2.exe file is found in)

Change your command line accordingly, set it to run in compatibility mode (I’m using Vista and set it to run compatible with XP), and check the box to “Run as Administrator”. Those steps alone should get it running for you but there are other suggestions you may need to follow found in those GW2 Guru threads as well. Above all it is fixable on your end though if you are having the same problem as myself and the others contributing in the guru forums. A-net Tech Support staff are always the people to listen to first and foremost but it can really drag out trading e-mails every 2 or 3 days with them. The above fixed it for me though.

I sincerely hope this get’s you all back up and playing again. I don’t know where from and on who’s end this issue is emanating but for myself, and hopefully everyone experiencing this frustrating issue I’m happy to report you should be able to fix / workaround it from your end. Best of luck friends!

P.S We all had a myriad of various peripheral issues that we thought may be contributing but ultimately the fixes worked for us all. Some were outside the U.S, some on seperate continents altogether, I myself more often than not play with a mobile broadband hotspot and have used both 3G and 4G. The fixes though worked for all of us.
