Poor performance.. STILL?
The engine cannot handle the content that is in the game. Do not expect any significant performance updates for the longevity of the game.

Even with a single card the performance isn’t very good. And I want both cards being used to keep me over 100 FPS.
I should be able to use both of my GPUs. Games with fraction of the budget Anet had for GW2 have proper SLI support.
Well only a few games don’t perform well with multi cards and it seems that GW2 is one of those games. Least that’s what it is for me and Crossfire on my 7970s. If you get higher FPS than with a two card setup (higher on scaled down? idk) but if it’s still higher than 60 fps then I’d just call it good.
The problem in most cases is related to the CPU, and not GPU usage. Unless your single GPU is actually reaching 90%+ usage, adding a second one or more won’t likely do much at all.
I have a single Radeno HD 7850, and have had very few times where GPU usage was above 95%, yet plenty of times where FPS was relatively low.
One could argue the game is just too advanced for current processors :p But a more reasonable answer would be that it’s just unoptimized for current processors. Regardless of what it is, low framerate in most scenarios for most people are in-relation to the processor.
It still has poor performance because it is a problem with the old game engine, and rebuilding a game engine after release on just about any game is very unlikely to happen. We might see some changes or patches here or there that improve performance on lower end systems, but on the higher end stuff you will probably never see better performance than what you are seeing now. Maybe with the expansion we will see something (if we ever get one).
Poor performance is going to persist till the end of the games life. Bad engine is bad, no way around it. I pretty much exact same PC as you and I just set everything to low.
Anet doesn’t give a kitten about optimization. Their solution is to introduce settings that let’s you lower the quality of the games visuals. Which isn’t really optimization, it’s just letting you make the game uglier.
Just gotta deal with it.
(People, especially Anet Tech Support, will tell you to not overclock and blah blah blah… It doesn’t really matter, you’re going to get even worse performance with stock CPU speeds).
I run a 780 classified, iv even recently OC’d it to 1267mhz on the core.
I run at my hdmi cables max resolution (bandwidth restricted) of 3200×1800 downsampling. With all settings max except Reflections (still bugged so its on T&S) and even Supersampling.
before the culling patch i could easily cap out my 60fps cap. Now though its down to ~35-60 in LA no matter if i lower the resolution or not. The only way t make it betetr is to use the culling, which looks crap.
Its a limitation to the game engine. In some casses its the users CPU maxing out, but ether way… the game engine is crap for whats being asked of it.
PvE is fine, 60 fps al lthe time, even WvW is ok until lmassive zergs start going at it. LA would be ok if it wasnt so busy but due to the event there are lots of people around and so the game engine gets loaded up and the FPS drops like a stone.

Both Tink and iSmack are correct. There will never be significant performance updates to the game for it’s life cycle.
The game was created to have multiple players battling on screen at once but the engine cannot and will not ever be able to handle it.
Future technology will not help since current and last gen CPUs are not being utilized to their full potential.
