SEA players lagspikes, ISPs with Level3 route

I’m sure that I’m not the only one experiencing this.
Symptoms:
1. Game is fine for Lion’s arch and Dungeons. Anywhere there aren’t more than 20 people moving around and using skills.
2. People you’re running alongside with appear to be walking off in different directions then popping back in place.
3. 3-5 second skill lag upon entering combat. You’re able to leap in, unscathed and just drop dead after a few seconds.
4. You aren’t able to waypoint out until the game catches up where all enemies have left the vicinity.
This is due to our ISP’s getting routed through Level3 servers and bounced around rather than let’s say Alter or LAX. I’m normally able to compete in WvW but this issue has rendered me inert and appears to revert to proper routing once peak hours are over. (Severe lag from 12nn GMT+8 and ends 12MN GMT+8)
Post here if you’re experiencing the same thing.
How to know?
Start > Run > CMD > tracert guildwars2.com
See attached for example. I’ll post a screenie during offpeak hours where my connection is routed through a different set of servers.

TL:DR: Level 3’s routing is horrible for gaming.
yes!
i am experiencing this too. i experienced such lags a long time ago, but it never came back until one or two days ago.
it is gw2 because all other internet and games function fine on my side.
I’ve been getting the same issue for about 2 days now as well and its forced me to stop playing until all the lag is sorted out. I wish they would give us some information on what they’re planning to do or if they’re trying to resolve this issue!!!!!!!!!!

The only solution is to avoid the Level3 route. I’m not sure if Anet can do anything about it though.
+1 to this…
I’m from the SEA region as well. The spikes gets real bad at time.
I was only able to hit 3 mobs at the final phase of Temple of Grenth DE, running around hitting air the whole 5mins. Dungeons runs are not smooth flowing as well, can’t move or execute skills with flow, plagued with choppy and laggy response.
The lag becomes really unbearable when there are more players.
This started few days ago. A lot of my buddies are affected by this as well. It is really frustrating.

I’ve gotten word that a number of my friends in the US are now experiencing packet loss due to Level 3’s routing.
Anet can’t do anything about Level3’s crappy routing. They usually have these issues and about a week later it cleans itself up. I used to have a similar issue because of L3’s peering location in Chicago.

You sir, do not know how the internet works. If you are having the same issues as the OP, its the internet, not GW2.
Fromn SEA as well I can play thegame normally but zoning mostly end up in limbo and up at map loading screen over 3 minute and I have to relog to get to another zone.Very inconvenient for world boss hunting.

Thank you for correcting me
so i would assume it’s the router’s problem or an increase in the traffic that the routers faced?

I am having Level 3 routing problems as well. Severe packet loss We cannot do anything about it just sit, wait and hope that they fix their issues.
You could try going through a free proxy; something that avoids those hops. Don’t ever pay for a proxy like wtfast.

I agree that there is a Level3 issue. but if you do a pathping instead of a tracert you will find that it’s the gw2 servers that are losing the most packets. Either way Anet doesnt give two kittens about it. They have no help to offer or any input. as long as they can say it’s someone else’s problem they wont do jack kitten.

A week? hasnt there been lag issues ever since the game has been around with high numbers in WvW? Ive counted 10 seconds before my heal worked during big battles.

There’s a difference between that and what the Seattle user base is currently experiencing. But yes, large groups have always caused skill lag issues.
oh gosh, the lag was gone today but after the new patch 17/9/13 hit, it started to lag again, a few minutes after WvW went down

I have the exact same problem. Go anywhere without too much of people will be fine. But any champs / bosses / events, and I’ll be greet with continuous disconnections and it’ll take forever for me to get back online.
This wasn’t happening previously but specifically today, it’s been going on for almost the entire day.

Since there are a few mentions of Seattle1.Level3.net I thought I’d chime in with the exact same problems from Australia but routing through LosAngeles1.level3.net instead of Seattle in case it matters.
Same spikes, same 3 second skill delay. It’s impossible to even weapon swap during Teq.
/cry
Same problem occured to me today. Never had this issue before. At least some response would be appreciated.

bump.
next time, how about putting “Mind you, our servers might not be able to sustain enough players” next to the price tag, Anet?

Their game servers are fine.
What we are seeing are peering with Verizon/ArenaNet(problem both need to work to fix) and Level3 (Western US; doesn’t appear to be ANET related).

I was referring to the general skill lag problem due to the insufficient data processing capability of the game servers. This level3 thingy is just one of many things that constitute the problem.
