Same problem….
I tried disabling both firewall and avast.
I need to be connected to VPN to download???
Well well I’m having the same problem too; after I finally decided to actually buy a MMORPG game because I never have and this happens :/ Been trying to make it work for probably 3hours or more; I even did the msconfig and disable AVG :/
UPDATE: I dont have any more problems.
(edited by Kupocygirl.8360)
There was a bug a few months back where the game would stop downloading. The fix was to change the language to French. This would restart the download.
I too am having this problem, if someone could help it would be greatly appreciated!
Verizon is dropping or blocking your packets.
From your test:
4 —- 100/ 100 =100% 98/ 100 = 98% xe-10-1-1-0.NY5030-BB-RTR2.verizon-gni.net [130.81.163.86]
Same thing happening to me…2 days now can’t install…
Also having this problem for the last 2 days, re-installed twice and tried every solution I could find over the last 2 days of googling. Also wrote a support ticket, though I have not gotten a solution yet from said support ticket. Maybe it is the servers…
EDIT- Added my “Guild Wars 2 Test.txt” and found I am losing 100% at “G0-9-1-7.PHLAPA-LCR-21.verizon-gni.net [130.81.97.50]”… not quite sure what to do to fix that…

Very frustrating that I cannot use a product I paid 60 dollars for.
This is the problem with always on games…
Same problem here, stuck , max I got was 130k then it stops

My client is trying to update and it’s stuck on 98% at 0.00 KB/sec
Restarted download and this time it’s stuck at 50% 0.00 KB/sec
(edited by jimkew.5601)
I also have Verizon and am stuck at 89%, disabled my security program and all non-windows processes.
Also on verizon and my game wont patch with the same error. downloads for a bit and then hit’s 0/0kb and just stalls out.
Me and two other friends are having the same issue. Looks like the download server is down?
My friend and I are having the same issue, I’ve spent hours trying to figure it out to no avail.
The issue seems to be between Verizon and NCSOFT, not just GW2.
Still having this problem. I had to download through vpn last time. Guess I’ll have to again.
This is also happening to me (I have Verizon as well if that IS the issue). Does anyone know how large the new update is? I don’t know what to do besides keep trying because I am not tech savvy at all.
I just kept attempting to launch the launcher, and eventually it worked and the update began installing…. but then the download speed plummeted and halted the patch to a standstill. I guess I’ll just keep trying? shrugs
(edited by soakman.7539)
I’ve been having issues getting the patch as well. Using pingplotter (a handy tool for diagnosing certain network issues) the problem seems to be with two level3 nodes between myself and the patch server. I’m in Baltimore on Verizon.
(Hop #6) – 4.68.62.133 (ae16.edge1.washingtondc12.level3.net) – Samples: 3901 – Average ping: 138ms – Packet loss: 91.1%
(Hop #10) – 4.69.156.41 (ae-2-52.edge2.Newark1.Level3.net) – Samples: 3849 – Average ping: 142ms – Packet loss: 68.7%
So I’d be inclined to say the problem’s with either level3’s routers or verizon’s choice of routes.
Restarting the patcher seems to help, it’ll run at full speed for about 5 minutes before dropping back to the 1-3k/s range.
I can attest to this (As it’s happening to me as well) and I do indeed have Verizon. Hits 0KBs and just stops. I’ve attempted multiple times to no avail, so I assume this is between NCsoft and Verizon.
So … what do we do in the mean time? I got this too. It says Downloading: (however many Kb/s it manages before the download speed drops to zero.) then (the download speed). And it usually starts at 50 Kb/s which is outrageously slow, and then it just tanks to zero. If the patcher -saves- that data, I suppose I can just keep restarting the launcher repeatedly until it finishes, but it will drop to zero in about 20 – 30 seconds, and that gets real annoying real fast.
EDIT: Oh, right. Forgot to mention my Internet provider is also Verizon.
Also having issues and also using Verizon. I’ve never had issues before though. Just with this patch. Only downloading at ~50k/sec and eventually it drops to 0.0 and never recovers. Starts download over each time.
Baltimore Maryland here.

In the Baltimore area on Verizon too; same deal.
New York. Also Verizon.. I’ll try using my VPS as a proxy.
Edit: I just proxied GW2 through my VPS and it increased my download speed to 1.8MB/s. It is definitely a routing issue. You guys should figure out a new route.

RI here, Verizon. Same issue.
Same with me. Verizon too, in VA.
Also having issues and also using Verizon. I’ve never had issues before though. Just with this patch. Only downloading at ~50k/sec and eventually it drops to 0.0 and never recovers. Starts download over each time.

Just FYI it does keep any completed files downloaded, if you made it past the patcher-patch you should see the “Files Remaining” remain where it was when you restarted the patcher.
Same problem here. Also on Verizon and have been trying to download the patch since it went live. I’ve going a measly 2% downloaded so far. The speed keeps dropping to 0kb and every once in awhile it will pop back up to 10kb per second.
So, any solutions for a non-techy? Or are we just stuck not being able to play this patch.
I’ve been X’ing out and opening it back up when it get’s down on the speed. When you open it again it will be fast for a few again. I’ve been doing this over and over.

I tried this, and WOW. That -DEFINITELY- worked. My download speed skyrocketted upward, and it showed absolutely no sign of slowing down.
Kudos for this!
UPDATE: So it actually managed to get to the login screen easily now, but in order for me to log in, I had to turn off the VPN connection. Weird.

Yes, Force, I’ve been doing the same but it gets old after a few hours. I can only get about 20-30 files at a time before it drops down again.
I gave up with that and did the VPN Book thing. Working great!
Same , Verizon and Gw2. But it downloaded fine on my laptop, just stops on my desktop. Same router and all.
Same thing here. Outside of Boston, with Verizon.
Using a VPN is all well and good, but I shouldn’t have to. Unfortunately this seems more of a Verizon issue than ANet/NCSoft issue. Definitely wouldn’t hurt for the ANet team to talk to Verizon for us though…
Also using Verizon Fios in NY and couldn’t get the launcher to finish. Used the steps from Masterdarkjedi to setup a VPN and its now downloading the actual patch files.

Yeap, looks like Masterdarkjedi saved the day.
When I connected via LAN vice wireless, it cleared my issues up on FIOS.

what is LAN vice wireless?
I went to the vpnbook site but didn’t see where to download it, just the pdf reader. The video shows how to set up the vpn connection in Win 7 but I’m still on Vista.
Oh well, maybe the download will be done by the weekend.
Maybe I’ll be calling my cable company and pricing their service by the weekend too.

Nothing to download. Go to http://www.vpnbook.com/howto/setup-pptp-vpn-on-windows7 – make sure the port forwarding it setup on the Verizon router then add the VPN connection to your computer

I personally don’t have a way to connect this computer by LAN so can’t see if that would have worked.
Thanks Ceres, but you didn’t really read my post. All the instructions are for Windows 7 which I don’t have.
Anyways, I think i’ve solved it. I googled vpns for Vista and found a youtube video with nice simple instructions (for my nice simple mind) for VPN connections in Vista and it appears to be working. (This is after reading all I could on the internet in the last hour on what a vpn is and should I trust a site i’ve never heard of? Most reviewers that I trust gave the site a thumbs up.)
Well….at least I’ve passed the 4% download mark now and well on my way to 30%. It’s progress!

Any link to that website you found for an equally simple mind?
I’m also on Verizon in the NYC area and am experiencing this issue.
Instead of setting up a VPN, try this workaround:
Edit C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts using notepad (run as administrator)
Add this line at the bottom:
174.35.56.164 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com
Save the file. If Notepad prompts you to save as a new file, you need to start over and run Notepad as administrator.
If you have the GW2 launcher already open, restart it. If this still doesn’t help, you may need to change the address above and try a different number (e.g. assetcdn.102.etc..).
You may want to remove this line later when (if?) they resolve the networking issue.
Good luck!
THANK YOU! Verizon has been a huge pain lately in terms of downloading updates and this VPN solution worked wonders.

Yup, Verizon here as well, same problems as listed above…

Exactly the same story here, Verizon and desktop computer. Patcher starts at 50-60kb/s and drops to 0 in about a minute.
I just did the same update an hour ago at work about 2 miles away on a laptop and it worked flawlessly.
I did the VPN and it brought the speed up to a steady 150-200kb/s.
Interesting note: after I got the launcher to start downloading on the vpn, if i disconnect the vpn while it’s downloading, the download does not stop, it actually went to my full network speed 1.5-3mb/s and held relatively steady with a few dips.
I am on the east coast
