That one file
do you have sufficient memory free to complete the update?
the updates used an advanced form of delta type patching, which requires large chunks of memory to perform the comparison and import.
I actually had to clear out memory to have it installed, so I don’t think that could be it.
There’s 11.6 gb free. Is that not enough?
Thats disk space, as in HDD
I’m meaning Memory as in System RAM.
How much is the Commit value in task managers Performance tab.
958/8188
I don’t suppose that’s good, is it?

I have a problem installing guild wars 2 on my PC. When the game tries to update, the client freezes on the last file. I’ve tried repairing the client but that hasn’t worked.
My friend have this problem too.

sorry my english)
OK, found solution that worked for me. Under my documents, Guildswar 2, delete local.dat file. But then reboot first, do not just start game. Reboot first, then start GW2
I’m still having the same problem.
Finally found a solution that worked for me to let my download that last blasted file.
Firstly: Disabled my Firewall
Secondly: I did the following:
1. Press and hold the Windows key and then hit the R key. This should bring up the Run dialog box.
2. Type “MSCONFIG” without the quotes, and click “OK.” This should open the System Configuration Utility.
3. Click on the “Services” tab and check the “Hide All Microsoft Services” check box near the bottom, then click the “Disable All” button. (You MUST click “Hide all Microsoft Services”)
4. Next go to the “Startup” tab and click the “Disable All” button.
5. Once these items are all disabled, click the “OK” button and you will get a prompt to restart your computer. Please restart your computer.
-To reverse these settings, simply run MSCONFIG again and click “Normal Startup” on the first window labeled “General.”
Note: If you need a specific application to run with Windows but still want to use MSCONFIG, just follow the above instructions and on step 4, re-check any application you feel needs to start with Windows. Examples would be wireless connection software, mouse or keyboard applications or even security applications. Please note that security applications can often be a contributing factor to such issues. If you haven’t done so already, please also disable any Anti-virus, Firewall or other security applications for testing purposes. While we do not recommend running your machine without a security application, should disabling the software help resolve your issue we can reinstall it and work to configure the application so it doesn’t cause this issue.
Thirdly:
OK, found solution that worked for me. Under my documents, Guildswar 2, delete local.dat file. But then reboot first, do not just start game. Reboot first, then start GW2
Finally: I ran GW2 as administrator.
As you’ll probably notice, this solution came from a mixture between GW2 support and also jaDEB.2981 for the third step.
Hope this helps everyone else that is suffering from the same problem.

Running as Admin got my game to patch & load (Finally), but once in it keeps losing the connection to the server & dropping out.
My net here is fine, so I’m assuming they are getting hammered at their end?

no, actually thats pretty good. it means you have a good 3GB available before paging, which i would expect means you have 4GB of actual ram with 4GB of page file.
that should be plenty to finish the update in any case.
what is the computer doing when it appears to freeze on that file? open up the resource monitor from performance tab of task manager and look at the Disk usage tab of the new window that appears.
zERO.5904: Sorry, didn’t seem to work.
Squall Leonhart.2075: Uh, I’m not too sure what I’m looking for but I took a couple screenshots of the disk usage tab.
Once it froze it still seemed to be running but after a while it disappeared from the ‘Processes of Activity window’ before reappearing and disappearing again.

can you expand that File column to display the files it is reading
sorting by Write would also be better.
Like this, right?
It seems work for a while before the write column just reads 0 B/sec.
you’re sorting upwards to the app with the highest writes, click it again to sort downwards from the app with the highest writes.
Apart from that write to the system restore folder (i wonder why its doing that btw) the gw2 process has essentially stopped writing to the dat file
Alright, heres what you could try
Delete local.dat again, and add the GW2.exe process to your antivirus’s exclusion list, this way it won’t be scanning the files that gw2 opens and potentially corrupting either of the dat files.
It’s still stuck at that file, and reinstalling it doesn’t fix anything either.
