First off, here’s what im running:

AMD Radeon HD 6670
4G DDR3 RAM
AMD Phenom II X4 965 (3.4 GHz)

Two weeks ago after an update I started having a very annoying problem where my frames just drop to 7-12 fps for like 15 secs before returning to the normal 50+. I eventually figured out that for some reason, regardless of where I am, what I am doing, or even what quality i have the graphics on, GW2 is spiking up to 100% usage on all 4 of my cores during that time before returning to the normal 50% upon which my frames return. Keep in mind that I had played two stress tests, a BEW, and three weeks after launch on the 25 before this started happening.

Worse yet, the problem seems to be happening more frequently. I did a CoE last night and i estimate that i spent 40% of the dungeon at less than 15 fps.

I have done absolutely everything to try and fix this, and the more I try the more I solidify in my mind that this problem is not something that requires fixing on my end, and in fact I have come to post here today to receive some kind of acknowledgement that Anet is aware of this problem and are seeing what they can do about it on their end.

I love this game, but this is getting old. If a month goes by with no fix I might as well buy and play MoP until this get fixed. I can only take so much of getting one shot whilst playing in a slideshow.

Looks like I´m done with this game too.

Upgraded and switched out my Phenom II 555 x2 for the 965 x4 and the FPS got WORSE.
This isn´t gona fly ANet.
I already deeply regret ordering that gemcode card.

Maybe I can strike a deal and get Rohan instead.

The only fix for Amd cpu’s is a new Intel i5/7 motherboard & Cpu.

I have absolutely no problem with you giving me 400€ for a decent Intel system, just so I can find out if I´ll get the same performance problem like some of the other INTEL users are having too.
Where´s the money? I´m guessing not where your mouth is.

Thnx for the tip Virtual, but I´m running a WinXP system so that´s all useless to me.
Remember I´ve changed absolutely nothing on my system, just swapped out the overtaxed dualcore(overclocked to 3.7 & constantly running around 90% load) for a quad.

No other game ever has given me so much grief and problems to get it installed, running and keep it running at an acceptable performance level.

Ridiculous.

I upgraded mine to a 965BE quad too (8GB DDR2 RAM, SSD, Win7 64bit), but I only get minor dips below 40FPS in PvE – normally sits around 55-60 (EVGA 550Ti 2GB card – FPS limiter set at 60 both in game settings and in card profile).

I’ve yet to throw myself into WvW much yet, have just explored a bit.

I use ‘recommended settings’ for video, and the CPU is at stock unlocked – when I tried a simple OC, the game crashed every ten minutes.

Hawk don’t sweat it the is very poorly written I have a AMD FX rig that pegs BF3 @60fps on the highest setting. And that game is way more demanding then this one. Yet I get crap fps in this game.

Phenom II 965BE, not OC
GTX570
16GB RAM, 1600 Mhz

As you can see my hardware is not that different. I have no problems at all with the game freezing, running low FPS, etc. Could this be WinXP related? I am on Win7.

P.S. Sadly I have to agree with Cbuzz. The only solution for the limitations of the outdated AMD hardware is an Intel-based purchase. But that would only be an issue an expansion or two later, if ANet improve the visuals of the engine further.

CPU dependant though the game engine may be, this doesn’t sounds more like a straight-up random bug to me. There are well-known and consistent performance problems with certain parts of the game where fps can get really low (big DE’s and WvW battles), but what I’ve noticed that those drops always seem to be paired with an overal lowering of the CPU and GPU useage on my system, as if the game engine is choking on itself rather than on a lack of resources available from the hardware. The fact that your CPU gets completely maxed out while your FPS drops so low at the same time sounds like you’re hitting some random bug rather than a consistent performance issue.

Your situation actually seems vaguely reminiscent of a game bug I ran into myself a while ago. I was in Queensdale on the bridge to the ford where the centaurs keep attacking and in the middle of the event my game totally spazzed out for a few seconds – the CPU useage maxed out, while my GPU useage and FPS flatlined, making it almost impossible to move. A few seconds later useage levels and FPS returned to normal and it hasn’t happened to me since.

This occurrence didn’t feel similar in any way to the other performance drops in the game – it felt like some part of the engine got stuck in an infinite loop, overworking the CPU to the point where it could barely process anything else. As you can see in my sig I’m running an Intel / Nvidia system, so AMD systems aren’t the only ones having random problems. Also at the time this happened I was running stock settings, so it wasn’t OC related either.
