Why the low FPS with 7870?
You are trying to run the game with a $60 processor which is massively bottle-necking your gaming experience. A decade ago you could scoot by with a really nice GFX card and a less than desirable CPU. These days they both need to be decent.
I am planning to upgrade it to an i5-3470 within the next couple of days, will that provide sufficent performance?
Yes it Would increase fps BUT Don’t change crap CPU for crap CPU – for 40$ more u can have really good CPU.
If u want good fps in this game go for:
i5-2500K/2550K //i5-3570K // i7-3770K
the “K” is essential as it means that you can Overclock it easily.
Also grab Dual channel ddr3. 4gb is kinda low for this game.. 8gb would be good
I don’t really want to OC, that’s why I’ve decided to go with the 3470. Aren’t they relatively the same except for their overclock ability?
Here’s my system specs, is there any reason I’m not able to get high FPS even with the lowest settings? It’s certainly playable, but if everything is turned down to the lowest possible setting I feel I should be able to exceed 60 fps, which at the moment is proving to be quite challenging.

If this is your motherboard and you have 64 bit operating system this would be a big time increase.

It’s pathetic the game runs so bad, I’m never buying an expansion while it runs like this, It feels like a console port. No way in hell should my PC and hundreds of others should be suffering from such a lousy fps when we can all run every other current games no problem whatsoever including other mmo’s, I quit playing about 3 months ago as the frame rate made me feel ill, sometimes ill check back and see if it’s been optimized but sadly no it ain’t. I’m starting to think it was designed with consoles in mind to put it over on them later.

You have a Intel i5-3570 CPU and run around the forums complaining of 8 – 14FPS in Instances/LA. But yet refuse to try to troubleshoot it pegging all the blame on the game and praying for fix every patch. As most here already know, that CPU should be able to get more than 14fps. So something is wrong with your game installation, config or system hardware.

Kirito I’ve tried everything in regards to troubleshooting for example EVERYTHING on that stickied list I have no idea why you assume i ain’t looked for fix’s myself too, bottom line is the game is badly programmed which is why it needs a CRAZYILY high spec pc to get anywhere even near a poor 30 fps, it’s unnaceptable and is why any expansion will sell terribly unless its fixed.

i5-3470 scores 1912 points in single threaded performance.
while i5-3570K score 2016.
Also i5-3570k Will last longer. Cause in future with more demanding games all you’ll have to do is Oc i5-3570k while with 3470 well, you’ll need to replace it simply.

I get 60 fps in pve&spvp apart from WvW on i3-3220.
Did u bother to reinstall whole system on PC components change ?
On what HDD you got game installed? sdd?sata? older ones ?
did u check for system programs running in background/viruses? it’s known issue that there are viruses that uses ur cpu a lot like 90-99% and U can’t do kitten.
Check DDR3 sloting – is it properly put in dual channel is u use it/have it.
Make sure u delete gw2 config files and or do -repair.
GO to intel site and check for any drivers for your CPU. Yes they have various stuff that makes your CPU work better.
Sorry but noone will belive that i5-3570nor any i5 of 2nd/3rd gen won’t handle this game at minimum 30 fps in WvW and 60constant FPS in pve/spvp

If you want help troubleshooting then make another thread.
- Attach your game advisor log.
- List all the things you have tried troubleshooting.

I have the same GPU as you op and my processor is a 3.2Ghz Ivey bridge (i5-3470 and 8gb ram) and I’m still getting 20-30 in crowded area’s in WvW so I can’t play it at all. Plus when you turn around the game drops 10-15 fps for 1 second which is also frustrating.
You have to buy at least 4ghz cpu to run this game at 30 fps max in WvW with a lot of players. I hope they release a patch that will optimize the game instead of events that you can’t enjoy with 25 fps(

Myself I can’t remember a MMO in which 100++ ppl on screen would allow u to play with 35/40++ FPS untill You have some top end rigs ( i7-3770k/3930k/x or E series for servers ).
With proper optimization you would “maybe” may enjoy 30-35 fps in WvW on i3-3240 or non “K” versions of i5 but thats it.
mine i3-3320 noted lowest fps of 17 with 174 ppl on screen.
Yes i counted those kittens.
To get 30 fps as the minimum u will ever see in WvW and LA u need a 2nd/3rd gen intel i5 OC’d to around 4.5ghz…or better.
If you dont mind droping below 30 at times then high end AMD & Stock 2nd/3rd gen 4thread ‘i’ intel CPU’s will do.
NOTHING out atm can run the game at a solid 60 fps all the time.
Mild/Average OC’ing isnt hard and doesnt cost anymore than a mid range Air cooler like the Coolmaster Evo 212 ..its just requirs a little research (..really ..only a little). And ur of. Very little danger involved so long as u can read :P

Thanks for the replies everyone, the main problem is that I’ve already got an inexpensive mobo which is really going to limit my OC-ability. I suppose I could get the 3570k, then upgrade the mobo again and just accept the fact I wasted money on a cheaper mobo, but I’m still not convinced it’s worth it. So far this is the only game I’ve ran into any problems with FPS wise, even with my crappy Celeron CPU. Maybe that’s because I’m not playing things like Farcry3 and Crysis atm, but tbh those aren’t really my type of games anyway.
Thoughts?
How much worth it is depends on you. If you play this game a lot then its more worth while, if not then just live with it.
If you are going to get a 3570k and new mobo, might as well build a complete system, and save the celeron one as a secondary PC/media center or sell it.
