these are my comp’s specs:

CPU: intel core2 quad q8400 @ 2.66ghz
GPU: nvidia geforce 9400gt
mobo: gigabyte g41m-combo
RAM: 2gb

settings in the attachments.

so my game crashes at massive WvWvW battles and i am planning to get 2 2gb ram stick to replace my old ones. would it help to not crash the game at massive battles?

I assume you are running 32bit OS?

32bit OS has issues with out of memory crashes, its the architecture limitation. Unless Anet fixes their code to prevent it, the two workaround is upgrade to 64bit or try /3gb switch method which has possible side effects. To fully utilize that new 4gb ram you are planning to buy, you will need a 64bit OS anyways.

i see….. i crash even on non-crowded areas. and my memory usage is at almost 100% when i crash. it says out of memory. but will the 4gb give any improvements?

4GB will help, but you won’t see all 4GB using 32bit OS; more like 3GB.

i have about 95$ and i would like to ask if 2 4gb ddr3 rams are worth it or a new gpu would be more needed.

I dont even think DDR3 RAM will fit in ur motherboard. You will likely need DDR2, and dispite being worse than DDR3 ..they are more expensive.

If you get urself up to 4gb and upgrade to 64bit OS, the out of memory issues should stop completly.

I Highly sugest saving ur money though and upgrading your rig completly though. Its well out of date for a gaming rig, and even without the out of memory crashes, your performance must be terrible.

I have been considering that but my pc is just a year and a half old. And i believe that my mobo supports ddr3. However, i might buy a new one next year. Could you recommend some mobos, cpus and gpus for me or if you would like, a rig. Please include prices.

For around $370 u can get a
Intel 3rd generation i5 3570k + Asus or Gigabyte Motherboard + 8gb 1600mhz RAM + Aftermaret Cooler. Then you OC it to as close to 4.5ghz as u can.

Thats the core of the computer sorted.

Then you just need to decide how high u wanna go on the GPU.
Ether
Low end like a AMD 7770 or Nvidia 550ti, (~$100)
Mid range like a 460,560ti,650ti, 660ti, AMD 7850. (~$100-$260)
High end like a nvidia 670, AMD 7950 ($300-$400)
Or Top range like a Nvidia 680 or AMD 7970 ($470-$570)

All these GPU’s will run GW2 with good FPS aslong as u get the graphcis settings accordingly.

Then ofcourse if u need them. A Case and powersupply (~$150 for both)

With a rig including these parts u can play GW2 wihtout droping below 30fps ever (so long as u keep settings set according to the GPU u decide on)

How much will an i7 cost? I don’t want to OC and i want a gpu that can run most games at high. I have little knowledge about building a rig . Also, i can use my old case but i am not sure about my powerrsupply. How many watts should i get? Those ssd’s i heard about, i don’t even know what they stand for but are they worh a try?

Well getting an i7 wont make it so u shouldnt OC. The reason for OC’ing is to make the single thread performance better..an i7 , which is just an i5 with more threads, wont help with GW2.
However even if u dont OC it will still be alot better than ur current rig, so its up to u. I personaly cant stand sub 30fps drops so i always advise to OC for GW2. But if ur ok with it then thats all good.
If u want an i7 for other reasons.. u can add another ~$120 ontop of the 1st figure i gave, for a 3770k , or if u absolutly never want to OC get the 3770 (non k) adding ~$100 ontop of the 1st price i gave.
But hoenstly for GW2 an i5 3570/3570K would do fine.

Anyway GPU wise to run on High settings in most games i sugest at minimum a Nvidia 560ti…..a Nvidia 660ti or AMD 7950 would probably be best tbh. Anything higher would allow the same settings but better fps. .or ultra settings. But the price hikes up substantialy at that point.

PSU wise i sugest a good brand 600W ..like a Corsair TX series.

Oh and building a rig is like building with LEGO nowerdays ..pritty much everything can only go in 1 place so its really hard to mess things up.

SSD stands for ‘Solid State Drive’ ..its a newer version of a HDD ‘Hard Disk Drive’(Hard Drive). They r small ..have no moving parts.. and are REALLY fast.
They only help with loading times ..and somtimes help reduce micro stutter in games. .but mainly is for loading times. .like starting up windows. .loading levels in games etc.
They r pritty pricey ..close to 1$ per Gigabyte. So a 120gb SSD would go around $120 ..and that would only fit your Operating System and a couple games.
they are oneo f the last things u add to system to increase performance ..and not really somthing u buy when ur on a tight budget.

So can a thousand dollars make it? And can i have a little guide about OCing? I kinda freak out when staring at the BIOS screen.

I think a $1000 should do the trick, im not from the US so i’ve only been using Newegg as a price guide. .im sure u can find betetr deals around.

For OC’ing go to this forum and find a guide, or ask them. There is usualy a guide for each series of CPU ..so the one i used wouldnt help u.
http://www.overclock.net/f/
OC’ing is easier than it looks at the low/mid level ..top end OC’ing gets a bit tricky but u wont need to go there. As for bios screens ..they r alot more modern nowerdays ..has a proper UI ..mouse curser etc its a mini Operating system bassicaly.
The bit that takes the longest is the stability testing :P

A program called Prime95 is a really good stability tester..but that takes between 6 to 12 hours depending on how sure u want to be that its a stable. If its not stable it will BSOD or come up with an error so u dont need to wait an entire 6 – 12 hours to find out.

If you plan to buy in march next year, asking for a specific mobo now will just be obsolete by then. You might even wait until intel’s next gen CPU is out Haswell. which is around that time or near summer. Used market varies widely, but your machine won’t get much. Maybe 200-300.

i have thought of that. i am also thinking if GW2 will officially support windows 8 (most likely) by march i think i will know the answer. a laptop would be a good one too. considering my parents want to buy a new one. any laptops you would like to recommend?

(See part 2.2 – 2.3, applies to laptop too. Most important are the CPU, and second GPU, everything else is basically personal taste.)

Aye what kirito said is accruate. If ur aiming to build around march ..best to wait to see if/when Intels new cpu’s are out, also new GPU’s wil be coming out around that time also.
