I know there were some changes mentioned upcoming in the feature pack, and I was hoping to get some clarity on a few questions myself and a few others had. I checked the forums by search function but didn’t get too many results and decided to post. I apologize if this was asked elsewhere.

Will commander title be account wide/merged as well with pvp/pve rewards unification?

If not, is this being planned in the future? If so, can we get an ETA?

And finally, if not, what is the reason for the character specific locking?

Thank you in advance for any time devoted towards answering these (hopefully not) asinine questions.

*Edit for clarity: I understand commander titles unlock on the whole account but want to know if they would be unlocked from being character specific

Not only account bound, but in January there was CDI and people voted for fast small change like different colors. These colors were also datamined like 1 month ago.
Yet no response from devs.

Having account bound commander tags would assume Anet cares about grouping and organization. I mean having a decent and flexible grouping system and the ability for leaders to lead on any character sounds important right?

Apparently not…. otherwise something would have happened in the last 2 years.

Thanks for speaking to us. Even if it’s dissapointing “soon™” type of post – it’s still better than nothing. Just… communicate. Adress some of our concerns, so we know You(as the company) at least have them in mind. You might take some flak and ironic posts(me included, lol @ the 11 months old “we are working on it” post) but it’s still better imo than saying nothing.
My biggest concern is – what will be done to better the WvW experience with the metrics you get from Season 2(as well as the old things that have been asked for over and over again). Or will these 8 weeks just be spent, so the dev team can create another Living Story?

Is there a specific reason why commander tags were character locked instead of account wide from the beginning? Was it a design philosophy or a technical limitation?

Yes. It was to limit the number of commanders out there. It’s easier to remember one commander than to remember all this alts. Also to keep pugs from having 5 tags.

Dont forget, when game was released, getting 100gold was much harder. For my first tag all my guildies send me money. That hard was to get 100 gold if you were not lucky to get some good drop.
Many people used real money to buy gems to convert them to gold. Also transfer rate was much different in those days. You needed more gems than now.

That’s the thing, cmd tags should have been account bound from the beginning. Commanders are a person not a character. Even though, as given about that person may have 4 or more commander characters, it if still the one person who commands.

It’s just like with the guilds, why do you have to research everything all over again just because you move server? It is the guild members that make the guild, not the server it is currently representing. Though I think this is being done in this patch is it not?

It is nice to get a reply from a dev, see you again in 3 months!

This has been a very sore subject for months since being told “somewhere” that WXP and other things were going to be account bound rather than soulbound.

I have never understood soulbound since I can sell and allow the use of anything I own, used or not….

That’s the saddest news of all.

We were expecting to be able to use all of our characters without being worse than broke.

I live in Washington state and I am poor, REALLY poor, so getting tags for all my characters will take massive time when others gain their tags by donations and real $$$$.

Disappointing is a common feeling for players when it comes to WvW. Most red posts don’t seem to tell us anything except “in the future” or “we’re planning”.

Actions speak louder than words and disappointing is what players are feeling with inaction in WvW development and enhancement.

Oh boy. Some guilds and players don’t like zergs. They prefer to create havoc forces and run the way they ENJOY with multiple groups. Marking a driver with Ctrl-T and using 3rd party voice is currently the best way to do it. And it’s completely laughable in a modern MMO as the only alternative. Running with an in game visual pin and in-game grouping system is FAR superior to marking a driver and forcing people to use a 3rd party voice program.

GW2’s grouping system is crap, there is no sugar-coating it. It’s the worse multiple group system I’ve used in a game where organizing groups is a factor. If you have over 5 people your only alternate is to pop a commander pin that attracts everyone in the zone. That’s NOT how some people want to organize!!! Read the feedback and the common requests.

For almost 2 years we’ve sent feedback in and requested changes, even simple ones to help us organize better. That’s why players are frustrated, dealing with a completely inadequate grouping system on a daily basis since the game went live.

I wouldn’t want GW2 to have a built in Voip system, 3rd party programs work fine. What I was referring to is multiple groups have to use it if they don’t enjoy running in zergs. There is no other in-game system outside of /squad that allows cross group communication if people are from different guilds.

Ctrl target is NOT a good system for multiple group organizing. Ctrl target was designed for a single group to assist on the same target. It’s clumsy and ineffective and a poor solution for organizing multiple groups, but it’s all we have. Having a constant in game visual icon is far superior for rallying and following a driver.

Look, they already have a commander pin you can turn on/off. Just add the option for public/private and the problem is solved. Turn on your commander pin, then flag “private”. Now you have a pin that can be used just for guild, alliance, multiple random groups… whatever. Only the people in the squad see the pin. It doesn’t attract everyone in the zone and it doesn’t take players away from the commander leading publicly.

Over all commander tags can be worst off because its a very open way of saying every one come to me on a map you cant have everyone on one person or you will simply be out played by smaller groups. Making them account wide will not fix any thing it may in fact cause more harm then good.

Its not a question if it better or worst it what we have and it works there not realty much of a need to add in a full complex system of tags time is better spent on the other things ppl want in wvw such as more trick to use in wvw more rank up level from wxp better over all profoundness (no one likes skill lag) more wvw rewards more ways to make a guild statement when you win a fight etc…

It’s only been asked for since day one, along with many other ‘quality of life’ improvements, but the part time intern can only work on half a problem at a time.

Maybe if some more Living World content is coming to wvw then we might see someone spend the 30 minutes needed to code it as one of the dozens employed on LW deals with it.

They announce a huge QoL update but save for Acc-WXP completely forego WvW commander QoL that has been asked for for two years.
