Yesterday, I did a lot of WvW stuff. Defended forts, used siege engines like burning oil, AC’s and cannons, and escorted yaks to forts. Then I looked at my inventory and it was almost completely full after only twenty minutes or so. This would have been amazing if I was doing WvW, but I wasn’t. I was doing the meta-events in Silverwastes.

Reward comparison (all info from wiki):

Silverwastes yak escort reward: ~18k xp, 378 karma, 1.86 silver and a few crests, sand and a bag of 3 or 4 fine, masterwork or better depending on MF.
WvW camp defense reward (there is no escort reward listed on the wiki): ~7k xp, 170 karma, 0.98 silver and a bag for about every other opponent killed.

Silverwastes Red Rock fort defense: ~18k xp, 378 karma, 1.86 silver and a several crests, sand piles and up to five bags of 3 or 4 fine, masterwork or better depending on MF. (Non-wallet bound reward increases with fort upgrade level)
WvW Tower defense: ~10k xp, 255 karma, 1.47 silver and a bag for about every other opponent killed. (Reward same regardless of upgrade status)

The criticism has been made before and will be made again, defending, scouting, managing upgrades and keeping siege refreshed is boring, tedious and generally underrewarded, if not unrewarded. I think what Silverwastes shows us is that Anet agrees. I’d estimate that on a per event basis the Silverwastes get about a 100% bump in reward with respect to a comparable WvW event. Also, the events come much quicker. I couldn’t even guess how much more you make on a per minute basis, but that is what Anet had to do to make a WvW experience that most people were willing to do.

Ultimately GW2, and most if not all MMO’s, are about investment, in time and energy, and reward. Got some activity that you want people to do? Increase the reward or lower the investment. I only do jumping puzzles for my monthly. I can about 1.5g in a pug-dungeon that takes about 10-20 minutes to finish. I now I can get an inventory of stuff doing similar activities in 20 minutes of Silverwastes meta-events that can take hours in WvW.

This post could have gone into the General Discussion as I’m sure it can be related to other aspects of the game, but I like WvW. I’d like to do the boring utility that needs to be done to help my server, but it quickly gets boring and I’m not rewarded for my trouble. Help us out Anet.

Yea… That’s kind of what I thought… I can go to wvw stand in a tower and see no one for hours (hence no reward) or stand in blue SW and get attacked every 10 minutes… And the NPCs don’t have siege disablers, so more reward, more stuff to kill, and less standing around. Unfortunately that means SW>WvW. For the time being.

Not that I agree with you, but SW is supposed to be more rewarding than WvW right now because of the influx of new players and the release of another LS chapter. If it weren’t, they will have potentially wasted a lot of man hours creating another instance people would use for a week then drop because it’s boring and stale.

WvW has needed an overhaul for a long time. It only makes sense that new releases that aren’t directly tied to WvW are going to experience better rewards, more frequently for the time being.

I have a low tolerance for stupidity.

It really feel weird to me to be confronted with all this “we want more loot” crowd at every corner.

Personally, I’m disgusted at just how much we get for doing nothing. It sometimes feels like ANET feels guilty of having been a bad father and shower us with gifts to make amend.

Hey, you clicked on a button!? Here is a gift! You opened your mail? WOW you have earned this too!! Did you just complete this impossible to fail event that can be repeated on all your characters? Well lucky you guess what? Yup, another gift.

Must be getting too old because I never felt rewarded by being handed a gift for doing nothing. It is nice to have gifts, of course, but past a point it becomes highly questionble from all side of the “transaction”.

Higher rewards than WvW is nothing new; Dungeons and EOTM also give more rewards than what you can get in WvW. It may sting a bit because SW is in some ways similar to WvW. I think you are are right tho that it is not ‘fair’.

To me it’s not a big problem, since I play WvW for fun. Sometimes when I need gold I do Dungeons for a few days, but it quicky feels like a grind to me. And remember: it used to be worse. Back in the days I had to farm my own omnomberries (no joke) to be able to have some decent food for WvW.

If you stand still in a tower in SW your bag is not really going to fill up either, you have to perform like you have in to perform in wvw to get loot.
Tbh i am a bit surprised over your complaint because one evening of raid in wvw is for sure filling my bags up, and we mostly have to empty them 2-3 times each evening and i have 154 bagslots, were at least 100 is empty. So if your not getting enough loot in wvw then your probably doing it wrong and need to kill more, or use the lootbutton more

As for them getting more event loot, well it is a special event that is going so you get event marks, which is kind of fair, since you get marks in wvw also that you don’t get in pve world. Might be less, but then again wvw is rather old, SW is not even a week.

What i could possibly feel would be a good idea to have in wvw, is to give reward to walking dollies, this way people might walk them more often.

It’s nothing new really, WvW has always been less rewarding than PvE and since they added reward tracks in sPvP it’s the least rewarding game type. It can be more rewarding if you karma train but all the players that upgrade, escort & scout spend more money than they earn from the occasional reward.

It’s also less rewarding in terms of “fame” and not interesting for a lot of title hunters. You don’t get any special finishers, the titles are only for max level and most of them will never be reached (killing a millions yaks or flipping SM 25 thousand times…). All you get is a prefix in front of your name that only enemies can see.

People have brought this up for ages and we did get some minor improvements (such as reward chest every rank up) and I guess these are nice but I would much rather have reward tracks similar to sPvP and be able to get skins and other PvE stuff while playing in WvW.

Well, i can tell everyone that if you play in T2 in lopsided matches your loot for the evening will consist of maybe 5 purses and 0 heavy bags.. and some junk.

Since, there are no opponents to kill and if you see some it’s about 50 of em.
works the other way around too, except there is still the karma train.

solution:
Introduce WvW specific armor skins (like wurm) .., kill/reward counter etc etc etc..

Why am i feeling like i am repeating things suggested 2 years ago by a majority of WvW players..?

Oh well ..maybe.. in a couple of years when everyone is playing VR games trough implants they might come around to starting the process to think about changing WvW.
