Seems like everyone has left my server over the last few weeks. Not even a single commander online right now on any maps. Are there any NA servers that usually have commanders on regardless of what time it is? Really dont like going into WvW on my days off and getting steamrolled by 40 man zergs and constantly having Outnumbered buff. If we do manage to finally take some stuff its immediately gone if we have to leave to go help out on a different map. When we do manage to get a large group together that isnt filled with uplevels we just end up facing 3 guild groups at once. Its just not fun. What are the more WvW oriented servers since it also seems I picked a PvE server?

I’m in the same predicament. I haven’t seen a single commander in our borderland since the Tuesday patch hit. I managed to upgrade a tower and then four guys slowly took it because there was no one on the map to come and help…during primetime. We don’t own anything, the other servers are tens of thousands of points ahead and keep PvDing our keeps taking turns since there’s no resistance. It’s a joke… I am embarrassed to be on this server if Season 2 starts and this carries on like this. Whoever that dev was that said there’s been no drop in WvW community numbers on each server is talking out of his kitten .

you don’t really need a server that has 24/7 coverage, just coverage when you want to play. I’m not sure that any server has 24/7 coverage, although JQ and BG may come close.

yea but on the flip side what fun is it always being up by 150-200k points? By Wednesday you are so far ahead no one on the other sides even bother coming anymore. Then you just run around with no one to fight.

I recommend against JQ or BG. Yeah they have decent coverage. So does TC or any of the T2 servers. Personally, I’d prefer to see a few others go to TC so that T1 is a really good 3 way matchup.

Yes, BG has decent coverage. We do not have 24/7 . Almost always have Outnumbered when I am playing.

It really depends how you and/or your server mates view 24/7 coverage. In a blatant term Isle of Janthir has 24/7 coverage. We have dedicated WvW guilds that raid 6/7 days of the week in every times lot.

Or you can take a more refined version and say 24/7 coverage is you dominating 2/4 (2/3if you combine OCX and SEA) times lots essentially allowing you the win for the week.

That’s the biggest problem WvW currently has imo. Coverage decides whether you stomp the other 2 servers or your server is being stomped. Nothing else really matters and tbh, both sides aren’t fun for me anymore. You either get your kitten kicked or you have no opponents.

After a few matches you know the servers with barely any players, a strong prime time or ~24/7 coverage. The ones with 24/7 coverage are obviously at the top of the leaderboards so you should go ahead and switch to one of the top 3.

Yeah unfortunately this is inevitable in a game like this. Which is why I think Anet, moving forward, will start to utilize cross-server instancing much like EOTM to help resolve these types of issues. A smaller server or server with less WvW participation will benefit from being able to play with other servers.

For now, our only choice is to server transfer to one of the tier 1 or 2 servers. Anet has a choice to make. See Anet stands to benefit from leaving things the way they are, because people will spend a lot of money transferring to other servers. They have a financial incentive to not resolve the coverage issue, or the server imbalance issues. Whole guilds moving at once is a lot of money in Anet’s pocket.

On the other hand, if they see they’re losing too many people due to the whacked server balance, bad WvW matchups, and how people just don’t have fun playing on a server that constantly get beat down all the time…then maybe Anet will move forward with cross-server instancing like EOTM sooner.

We are a PvX guild (old time DAoC players) and most of my guildmates cannot play during the week, so we end up starting with Explorables/Fractals on the weekends, then moving to WvW.

My guild and I are not out to WvW until at least after 11 PM. Our normal WvW playtime is 11 PM – Midnight to 2ish. During S1 we stretched that to 4 AM (even though I had been running WvW for 4-6 hours during the day) because we were running light on coverage, particularly in EB. There have been plenty of posts out here (including mine from the last couple of weekends) talking about Outnumbered and the gap BG has in coverage, as much as it might appear otherwise.

Weekends, we end up Outnumbered almost all the time during that time.. The few times we’ve managed to squeeze in some weeknight hours, it’s been spotty.

This last weekend, with the American holiday, it was a zergablobby fest from JQ and TC, particularly Monday night. We had Outnumbered, but managed to squeeze a few keeps/towers by ourselves. Had some really good fights, but most of the time it felt like Invasion of the Locusts, lol.

I’m glad you’re enjoying a better gameplay experience, but every person that pays a transfer fee is basically just agreeing with Anet’s “Pay us or get kittened” stance on WvW.

You don’t have American’s on BG? Only TC and JQ zergblobby? Why are you talking about Season 1? You were ‘Almost always’ outnumbered then too? You realise you won seasons.

Look……….. if you are ever outnumbered its because your map hoppers left the map and left scouts only and/or your fair weather players have given up. Your server hovers around full status, which isn’t the case for any other server. So you have the numbers on your server, you should get the people into WvW.

I will be honest at this point in that your post comes across as a wall of text substantiated by a group think mentality. I have to say the culture on BG fascinates me. It strikes me as very insular and self perpetuating in its nature.

To clarify: Yes, Blackgate did very well in S1, and has good coverage, but BG is a long way from full 24/7 coverage. Full status is not the same as coverage 24/7. Even during S1 we had times when we did not have full 24/7 coverage; there were posts out here on the forum discussing that.

Nowadays on Blackgate, during the typical weekend we have a lot fewer folks out in WvW than during the week, at least in the three borderlands (our guild typically doesn’t run EB, which is a different story). Note that BG’s PPT is usually second or third during the weekend, and dips up over the course of the week, hence commenting about this last weekend with the holiday, when we were playing with outnumbered a significant amount of the time, which our guild enjoys, since we can make a bigger contribution that way. (Again, this has been our recent experience in the borderlands, not in EB.)

As for group think, I’m not sure what to make of that remark. Blackgate is and has always had a very tight-knit community. Especially those of us who came from old school gaming cultures where realm and community meant something. When my guild and I started on Blackgate (headstart), early on, we were nowhere near the top, but the community was one of the best we’d seen in a very long time. That the BG folks are some of the friendliest, welcoming players I have met in a long time probably contributed to that. I’d like to think that a strong and welcoming sense of community would be self-perpetuating.

I think this month is a horrible time to try and judge the active WvW population of worlds across time zones for multiple reasons. Please try again after a few more weeks of gathering evidence before trying to draw any sound conclusions. “Now, don’t be hasty”.

Same goes for the rest of us trying to describe what things are currently like in our match-ups. Everyone knows these last few weeks have been highly irregular so lets stop pretending this will be the new norm because it is only going to encourage more ill thought out transfers. Give things more time to settle before screaming about being outnumbered in certain time zones and for goodness sake, please don’t all transfer to JQ just yet.

No server in NA has 24/7 coverage. Both BG and JQ are currently very balanced in coverage. TC is also very close in coverage with a few more SOR guilds currently transferring there. It would take a huge amount of overtime from a large portion of any of these servers to have 24/7 coverage. But everyone is so tired and I don’t think its possible. Anet needs to drop that map cap so we can all get some sleep occasionally.

Having played on BG in pretty much every timezone for the last couple of weeks, I assure you its every timezone. Even in NA outnumbered buff is popping. We were also getting it on as much as 3 maps the week SOR “didn’t show up” (meaning SOR had more on the map than us). This is more a reflection of the irregularities at present. But also for other reasons. BGs coverage isn’t as good as it used to be.

It’s typically a BG player that will post a ‘2v1 thread’ or in your case commenting on being outmanned when you come from THE server least likely to not have that problem. It comes across as having no perspective.

Same trick was used in season 1. As predicted, things are falling in place…

1) Intentionally tanking before season starts to make it seem like they’re the underdogs.

2) Run propaganda on forums to make sure everyone knows they’re outmanned by every server on every time zone to help with recruitment (still couldn’t believe BG claimed to be outnumbered by SOR in EU even after SOR lost their first batch of guilds).

2) Hope that some gullible guild (cough… zds…cough) gets tricked into transferring over.

There’s no server that has no coverage hole. The best coverage is currently in T1 and T2 on NA servers. Current server with nearly no coverage hole is JQ so you can take a look there

BG currently lacks commanders in all time zones (not so much players, mostly just commanders, I’m blaming bandwagoners for this problem) so you’ll often log in to 1 commander with 20-30 people following trying to defend whatever we have on the maps.

TC seems to have a shortage of commanders currently during SEA timezone, but with SoR’s SEA moving to TC in the near future, that shouldn’t be a problem.

I really dont want to transfer but I just want to be able to find action even if I log in at 10AM cause I have the day off. Or maybe I cant sleep and log in at 3AM and want to do some WvW. If I cant log in and get into some action then its just not fun. Or when we get camped by 3 guild groups until everyone on our server rage logs. Thats even less fun.

My apologies if my post came across as self-serving, self-focused or lacking perspective.

I’m actually horrified that it came across that way since I often try to provide perspective myself. Which is what I was trying to do with my abbreviated, obviously poorly worded attempt to point out that even high pop servers have coverage issues.

I did not feel I had the authority to speak for other servers.

Dabrixmgp, I think you’d find what you’re looking for anywhere in T1. It’s pretty evenly matched, with TC having an advantage in NA, and JQ + BG having an advantage in the 3am+ area of ‘crap, I can’t sleep’. I feel everyone here is trying to paint a picture of not exactly solid 24/7 coverage, but enough activity during about every part of the day.

JQ does have coverage gaps. But not large enough that atleast one map will not have a commander. Also JQ has very competent commanders leading in T1 on all timezones – SEA-OCEANIC-EU-NA many of whom love all sorts of combats, be it taking keeps or open field.

TC is a friendly robust server with some time gaps but i believe that will be changing next week or two.

BG is the largest server by far.

SoR has lost some guilds but are still within the Top 9 servers with coverage gaps.

The rest of the top 9 im not really sure.

You can also go to www.gw2wvw.net and post on the matchup forums for a more candid opinion .

All of the top 6 (I’m leaving SoR out of it due to their changing state) have coverage at all hours, but the depth of that coverage varies greatly among them.
Breaking the times into 5 blocks paints a good picture: Early NA, Late NA, OCX, SEA, EU.

I won’t get into classifying these for other servers because A. people feel the need to sandbag for recruiting and downplaying losses at these times and B. people don’t like other folks classifying their server (especially since people either grossly overestimate or rudely minimalize opposing coverage)

Follow servers and matchups and you can see some clear trends of when servers are strong and where they are lacking; but take in consideration of when their opponents are strong. Also on some servers a timezone might be dominated by certain personalities (look back at what happened to SoR’s EU when the leader of IRON became ill) and their presence and participation can greatly affect the server at those times.

So many on BG say this, then they go on to win gold after gold…it has no credibility anymore. It’s gotten to the point where no one can trust anyone from BG where it comes to their coverage.
I remember reading a post ~2 weeks ago where they were claiming to be weak in OCX. I happened to be up late (right around OCX Prime) reading it so I clicked on Mos and they were ticking over +350.

It does look like JQ might have finally got more WvW focused members and a better overall coverage; as well as the new TC… we might see BG take 3rd. However, because there has been so much smoke and mirrors; who can tell if that’s the whole story?

I wouldn’t say bg/jq are the best. They may be the best at spamming 1. Bg is a 90% pve server…from spending 1 week in T1, bg blobs are all zerk or uplvls.

Tier 2 also have coverage at all times. Just not overwhelming numbers at all times like t1. Should peek at fa/ mag/SOS

You want to jump into WvW any time of day and find action on all three sides.
In this matter, I recommend any T1 server but choose TC if you like to help underdog.
T2 don’t suit you because the servers there still have some coverage gap if compared to T1.

I liked the somewhat balanced coverage BP had the last time I fought them. They had a night crew, but it wasn’t kittenedly overwhelming like SoS or DB.

If all the NA servers were populated like that, I think we’d all be a lot happier with WvW.

We (JQ and BG) got the best coverage, but I agree, our average zergling is pretty awful. That’s also why you see BG’s WvW population disappear every time a good PvE update or Living Story update gets rolled out, hence the “outnumbered in every time zone” comment earlier. Our hardcore WvW population really isn’t all that big compared to what T1 servers traditionally had in the past. Especially in the Oceanic time zone, when we used to be strongest when our Oceanic crew was unrivalled, and now weakest (we don’t have a single dedicated oceanic wvw guild, PvX guilds and SEA/NA doing overtime makes up our ocx), over the period of just 4 months.

BG is a great server to log on and complete PvE events at any hour of the day though. Always get questions in champ train maps asking if there’s a train going from guests to the server. My usual response to them is: It’s not a question of “if”, it’s a question of “where”

just moved to TC. So nice to actually have a queue at 9:30 am.

Wow theres actually commanders in every map as well.

Just keep in mind being on a huge server also has a lot of disadvantages like long queues, skills lag and so on.

The match for my server is surprisingly close this week but we already know we won’t win (even though we’re currently 1st). Sadly I’m on a “prime time only” EU server and matched against a ~24/7 server…

The best advice I can give you:
Find a guild/group of friends and play with them. I doesn’t really matter if you win or not then because you’ll have fun anyway.

This is exactly the problem. In the last 8 months there was only one round where all three sides had a chance of winning (that I can remember). Every other round one server pretty much dominated the other two and by massive margins at times.

TC is essentially the spiritual successor to SoR, without the “We play for fights only” mantra.
