Merging would fix the majority of issues with server linking and the mega server. It would have been a much easier fix also. Arenanet does not want to admit there is or has ever been population issues so we have what we have now. Which all things considered is better than nothing.

Server Pride

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

Arenanet wiped server pride in the following 3 steps..

Step 1: they replaced the old lions arch for some weird looking waterpark without waterslides. (everyone loved to stand afk in front of the bank)

Step 2: They introduced the mega servers. (randomised peeps all over the place)

Step 3: they merged servers. (rollplayers suddenly pop up in Wvw causing huge Q’s, veterans start to play different games)

There is no such thing as server pride in guildwars2. Those who beleave that Im wrong are tripping.

This is exactly what I was thinking when I read the thread title. If they would have just done proper server mergers none of this would have happened. But no, that would mean Arenanet is admitting that the population had dropped. The fact that they thought it was a better idea to throw man power into these ideas rather than just move accounts around and admit the truth is rather silly.

Since the megaserver happened though, server linking was inevitable and needed. WvW was always about large scale warfare. Camps and even towers can still be taken by small groups but you have to fast and smart about it. You should not be able to run across a map and not have any resistance unless you have stealth and mobility.

Update on the Economy

Look. All we want, is consistency.

2 Iron Ores makes 1 Iron Ingot
2 Silk Scraps makes 1 Bolt of Silk
2 Thick Leather Sections makes 1 Cured Thick Leather Square
2 Hardened Leather Sections makes 1 Cured Hardened Leather Square
3 Softwood Logs makes 1 Softwood Plank

Please fix it, thank you.

I 100% agree. Make everything consistent and then it will make everything much easier to balance if it is needed. If something is dropping to much in price when compared to similar items then you can add it to a new recipe or if gets real bad adjust the drop rate. If something is going to high then add new nodes or places for it to drop or if it gets real bad adjust the drop rates. There is no reason to complicate basic recipes. they should be static and all use the same basic formula.

Arenanet needs to open the test environment to all players and release pre-patch info before updating the test environment and the live servers. This would level the playing field as much as possible. There is no perfect system because of the human element but it is possible to push the bar closer.

Arenanet shouldn’t be picking winners in game or for third party sites. We all know that only a few sites are getting that information. Isn’t Arenanet giving select sites third party information exactly insider information. It is giving specially selected people insider business information so that they can profit off of it before anyone else can. Third party sites getting that information get to profit in game and out of game because of it. I mean who is really going to go to another site if there is one that always has the information up patch day. Even if you have the better site most people will go to the one that has the info posted first.

They don’t have to track anyone down, or give out bans. All they gotta do is release the patch notes to the public, at the same time that they are given to their “media partners”.

Thats it. It requires Arena Net to do the most crippling thing they have been unable to do up until this point: Effectively communicate to their audience, at the right time.

EDIT: The rest of your comments are a cross of fandom brainwashing, and making excuses for a company not bold enough to create their own.

Ah the classic “that’s not an explanation, that’s an excuse”. As soon as someone takes that position there is no chance for meaningful discussion.

And there are people in this thread and on reddit demanding blood. You may not.

Very few are “demanding blood”. Most just want an even playing field which would be very easy for Arenanet to do.

Arenanet could make this a smaller issue by getting that information out to players earlier. There are tons of ways. They could do pre-patch notes, a Public Beta Environment, Include into their pre-patch dev chats to name a few. Letting the same clique have a huge advantage every patch is BS. The only reason I can see someone defend this is because they are one of the few that get the info every patch and so of course they don’t want it to change.

If we have the achievement for it we should have it in our wardrobe. I don’t understand why that is so hard for arenanet.

I also don’t understand why it is so hard for them to bring back the holiday events from the first year. It is nice they have added some events but why not have everything every year. That way when they add new stuff it just makes those holidays bigger with more to do.

Like I have mentioned before, they will never do an investigation or ban anyone for this. As they would be attacking arenanet employees and their friends & families, plus all of those that are promoting the game in one way or another.

The only way to fix this with out attacking those mentioned above is too get the information out there way before it ever goes live on servers. They won’t do that though.

There won’t ever be an investigation but if they were transparent so it wasn’t just a few people with the information then this would be much less of an issue. The issue lies in the secrecy.

So let’s say they release it to everyone at the same time. Then the people who can’t get online for whatever reason, say sleep, work, eating, school, the moment the notes drop won’t be able to act upon it. Those players still miss out from acting on the info. After all something that significantly shifts the value of something on the TP takes less than an hour, sometimes less than 15 minutes depending on the static supply.

If everyone has a month or more notice before something goes live it will at least let people know to start holding on to things. The majority of players do not play the TP game but if you let everyone know that item X will be needed for recipe Y then at least those players won’t be as far behind. Right now you have people privy to information sometimes months ahead of everyone else. They get to put up by orders on the cheap and slowly stock up and then make huge profit. That is BS. If you let everyone know at the same time then those select people will not get such a huge jump on everyone else. I’m sure most of them will still make money but it won’t be the huge amount they have been allowed to get away with since launch. Not that those players don’t already have millions of gold already anyways.

Edit to add, that if a few players don’t get to take advantage the first day so what. Nobody is talking about people being privy to information one day before everyone. We are talking about having information weeks and months ahead of everyone else. Being one day or even a week behind is nothing compared to being months behind. With a proper PBE everyone gets a long enough lead time to make things fair.

They are only two things they can do to “investigate”.

First check the TP records of the “known” accounts of people who received an official heads up about the patch and see if they conducted any trading on items outlined in the patch notes.

Second is identity the accounts of players who did buy certain items ahead of the patch and see if they is an obvious relationship to anyone who got the patch notes ahead of time.

They can’t see any interaction between players outside of the in game communication channels so unless someone was being very, very dumb, there will be no smoking gun to act upon. End of story.

You all want blood and you aren’t going to get it because if any action is taken, ANet isn’t going to be the one talking about it unless challenged in the forums by the parties that had action taken on them. You yell as much as you want, a “we’ll look into it” is likely the only communication you will ever get.

There won’t ever be an investigation but if they were transparent so it wasn’t just a few people with the information then this would be much less of an issue. The issue lies in the secrecy.

The best way to stop the insider info is to have a PBE server that gets everything far before the live production servers. Also having everything published on these forums rather than forcing people to go to 3rd party sites would help. I know arenanet likes to use the excuse of wanting things to be a surprise. The current way things are done gives huge advantages to select individuals like developer friends/family, 3rd party sites friends/family, and the lucky few play testers and their friends and families. It is like choosing every update who gets to win the lotto. If every patch I was privy to what items are about to skyrocket and I know this info weeks or even months a head of time, then I can start stocking up and get rich. Let a select few do this multiple times over a games life span and it is complete BS.

This game is pay to win, Slightly.

The reason this game is p2w is because the majority of end game can be bought. I hate spvp and play a bit of wvw. I can by a new account and first day be level 80 with full ascended armor and weapons and even legendary weapons. The only thing that would have to wait is jewelry and back piece and those would still be exotic. In many games you have to run raids or quest to get the best gear which can take time and much of it is bound. They created a system knowing that gems will be transferred into gold and everything will be bought from the TP. The TP is the same thing as having the items in the gem store it just takes an extra step to do it. By doing this, arenanet lets players think they control the prices. But the truth is, the prices on the TP are controlled by arenanet.

The thing is I do not have an issue with most of these practices. I do not mind arenanet being the gold seller so that the revenue goes to them rather than a shady third party. The problem most games that have real money auction houses/trading post is that the developers can not help but manipulate them to make more money. Which turns the game into a grind. Another issue that bad p2w games have is items like the watchwork mining pick. Items that can only be bought with gems that give exclusive in game bonus not accessible in game. Thankfully arenanet has not continued on that path.

So regardless of what anyone says or what their opinion of P2W is. My and many others opinion is that this game is p2w. It isn’t world of tanks bad but it is still there. As long as they stay away from the real bad practices of p2w I think gw2 will continue for a long time.

As long as Anet insists on including enrage timers and other “kill fast” mechanics in 90%+ of the fights, this problem will exist.

The reality, that I hope Anet is starting to see, is that there are a lot of people who would like to experience the raids without having to completely alter how they have been playing the guild for the past 3 and a half years.

This is the single biggest issues with raids at the moment, imo. Even if it doesn’t give the same reward as the current strictures, they need to look at ways to fix it and expand the experience to more people.

Yeah some games have selectable difficulties like normal, hard, and elite which give varying levels of rewards. This opens the door for more players and gives a much better learning experience.

How do you counter bandwaggoners?

in WvW

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

That is pretty much it. Servers stacking their way up the tiers is the problem. And it isn’t individuals moving, but guilds. Tie guilds to a single server. If you move a guild, start all over in building a guild hall and gaining advancements.

This would be the best thing to stop bandwagoning. With the megaserver and all the cross-server PVE guilds I doubt this will ever happen. It kind of all goes back to arenanet just do not want to do traditional server mergers so they will keep coming up with things like server linking and megaserver and all the issues that come with them.

how anet's linked server ranking system works

in WvW

Posted by: Lobo Dela Noche.5127

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

Ok, I see your point now. I don’t think Anet actually changed the ranking system though. They kept the same ranking system for the 12 “host” servers and simply sold the 12 “guest” servers into slavery.

The existing ranking system is essentially useless now because the score for one of the privileged “host” servers includes the efforts of their temporary companion(s). Unless a server is solo, the population and WvW make up is different with each new linking, and the score the “host” server gains is not necessarily representative of that named server alone any more.

In other words, linked combinations are new entities for the ranking system. This messes up the balance if you try to use glicko to create the matches, which is what we’ve seen for this linking period in NA with several server combos running away with the matches.

Unfortunately Anet and some players seem to see the historical glicko as still relevant somehow, so you get strong multi server opponents that don’t fit the tier they are put in and forum posts asking why server X has gone up (or down).

It definitely needs improvement to make sense any more.

Here’s how I see it, I’ll pick on Crystal Desert (CD) just because.

What this boils down to is this system allows the lowest/lower ranked servers like Crystal Desert to have 3 guest servers attached to it (and then gets the subsequent manual adjusted 300 (200) pt gain last week too). So CD gets all the positive with none of the negative for now. However, in the next server linking round, what this actually means is if CD does not continually get 3 guest servers linked to it, CD will be WAY OVERRANKED compared its inflated score…

…The general thought here is this forces CD to basically plummet back down the ladder or continually lose in their manually adjusted 200-300 points for several more weeks – it takes weeks to lose that much manually adjusted score; so in the next server relinking, CD will be kicked hard.

This forces WvW players on CD to either live with 8 weeks of losing miserably or to spend gems/transfer or leave WvW behind altogether.

Server linking based on Glicko score for low population servers is bad, really really bad, long-term. In the even longer run, it means even lower WvW population.

This is exactly what is happening to Yaks Bend right now. YB dropped out of tier 1 after the linking and so we have to go 8 weeks with out any server linkings. There is almost no way for any single server to compete against multiple servers so it is just dropping until server linking finally links us with someone. They really need to fix rankings and linkings so that they adjust at the same time. Permanent server merging would probably be a better way than linking to keep balance also. What ever happens though, they need to come up with a way for servers not to be completely hosed because bandwagoners jumped ship and fixing how rankings and linkings are done is a big part of it.

.

Good, this game is called guild wars 2 not trading post wars. The game should not be balanced around the trading post. The Trading Post should just be a way for players to trade items. 99% of the items on the TP still go for more than what they would cost to vendor the item, so not sure what the problem is. Maybe stop speculating in the trading post game and just play the game like 90% of the playerbase does.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

I don’t mind crafting but I hate that everything is account bound. Forcing people with multiple accounts or friends and family that play to all max crafting is pretty lame. In many games with crafting you only need 1 person in the guild to do it and they can make everything for everyone in the guild. It would be nice if everything was only bound on equip/skin unlock. Especially exotic and under, there is no reason that any exotic stat combo should be unavailable to anyone.

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

This is a very good change that should have been in since launch. Having them in the WvW maps is like having them in the SPVP maps. It just doesn’t make sense. Those that are complaining need to spend the 2s to go to LA or a home city and get over it. If you have issues loading(which I seriously think is a lie)then lower your graphics settings or upgrade your system. Either one will work. My daughter always loads about 30s after I do. 30 seconds is not worth complaining about plus I am sure you get the same load times going to a BL. So the real issue is just that you want instant convenience to crafting with out needing to pay travel cost. All the other reasons for complaining about this change are hypotheticals you all came up with because your real reason for being upset you know will be ignored.

Deflation of gold-to-gem [suggestion]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lobo Dela Noche.5127

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

The question is what incentive Anet would have to do it. A lower conversion rate devalues their micro-transaction currency (gems), so from a business point of view, its nonsense.

There are also easier ways for Anet to decrease the conversion rate, if they would want to do it.

They could, for example, simply send 1000 gems to every account, which wouldnt be a great business decision either.

A better idea would be to offer deluxe versions of the next expac, which includes a bunch of gems at a discounted price, like they have done with HoT.

The gem exchange wasnt primarily put into the game to please players that would like to get gem store purchases at a low gold cost, disregarding in game gold inflation.

The way its set up it reflects supply and demand for gold and gems perfectly and also functions as a gold sink.
It acts as a temporary gold storage/faucet as well. If gold is in demand again (like after HoT), plenty of players will exchange their gems to gold again, bringing gold that was stored in the exchange back into the game economy as disposable income.

I dont know, why you would want to mess with that.

Apart from that, I dont think it will have too much of an impact anyways.
It would basically be an extra gold sink from people, who buy lots of gems with gold on a regular basis, which means they have plenty of gold anyways and i doubt this will stop them from buying as much gems as they need/want.

^^^^

You guys are asking for something that has 0% chance of happening. I am sure the gemstore has more metrics than every other part of the game added together. Arenanet knows what is happening with the gold/gem exchange and it is where they want it.

Deflation of gold-to-gem [suggestion]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

The current exchange rate is simply what happens if you have two currencies that are exchangeable and only offer merchandise for one of them.

This is a big part of what is going on. The only way to get gem store items is with gems. So you either pay cash for them or trade in game gold. Once you hit a certain point in the game there is not much to spend gold on since the majority of things added to the game(like skins) are added to the gem store. So you end up with gems slowly inflating.

That is not to say arenanet doesn’t manipulate the exchange rate but I think they like where it is at right now as it makes buying gems the more attractive option.

How to fix GW2s end game problem...

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

LOL this thread.

The guy comparing Overwatch to GW2 is either 12 or high on something. They are totally different games and genres. If you want to compare overwatch to something then compare it to Smite/any random FPS moba or LoL/Dota2/any random rts moba or team fortress2/any FPS team based arena shooter. Sure GW2 might be able to take some ideas from those games and make SPVP better but come on, GW2 does not equal SPVP. It is such a small part of GW2 most people don’t even mention it when describing the game.

As for the OP, I agree we need more to do at end game. I ABSOLUTELY DISAGREE WITH ADDING MORE GRIND. Especially in mid level areas. Dragging out the grind to get to end game does not add end game, it just makes it a chore to get there.

Just deal with it for some time, like we(WvWers) did with kittenton of sPvP balance that affected WvW and fight for over a year till they bring it back( like we did with stabillity ^^). But… The problem is that PvErs don’t bring em as much money as PvPers do so… 0,001% chance
As for why PvErs bring em less money answer is simple: They farm gold, while competitive players don’t, so the only way for them is to buy gems with real money

Would be really nice if participation in sPvP and/or WvW would allow for experience gain towards either HoT or Tyria mastery tracks of your choosing.

Gets old doing these activities endlessly because I enjoy them, but none of my time spent doing them counts towards any masteries.

This might become a glaring problem for wvw when they add gliding to it which is affected by masteries. (I.e. you use gliding in wvw but can only level it up in pve.)

It would be nice if they added 2 reward tracks for HoT and Central Tyria. In the chest they could give xp tomes for the corresponding masteries depending on the track.

Sure most would still go with 3 grand masters but some of us really want more choice and to dabble. We came to GW2 knowing its more limited than GW1 but it still had more choice than most MMOs. We’d like more of that choice back. Allowing more than 3 lines would not affect any of you that prefer the new system as is. You could still go with 3 grand masters and I’m sure newbs would probably go 3 grand masters also. As that would be the most direct and obvious choice.

What's the point of 1 shared inventory slot?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lobo Dela Noche.5127

Lobo Dela Noche.5127

I think that Anet has a problem understanding the scale of some things. At the moment they are selling a single shared inventory slot in the gemstore for 700 gems. What am I going to do with one shared inventory slot? Moving stuff between characters is a wholesale process:

- Ascended armor pieces (6)
- Ascended trinkets (6)
- Ascended weapons on some cases (1-6)
- Gathering tools (3)
- Salvage kit (1)
- Food and oils (2)
- Siege weapons (2+)

When I’m moving stuff between characters I need to swap all of that and I need a good amount of bank space for it. That means I won’t buy your 700 gem shared inventory slot ever, but I might consider buying 700 gem shared 20 bag slot. Get it right or you keep losing business.

to tease you into buying 5 more. Its still not enough slots but that’s obviously where their thought process is

well i think in wvw there are clashing thee different types of ppl together

  • some which want to do the pvp challange and want to have the big scale fights including ganking;duelling and so on (those ppl dont care about pve)
  • those who seek roaming and fighting in some pve content and get the rush to find a challenger ( they care about the fight in general which means pve and pvp)
  • the strategic warfar type those who care about updating objectives and keep the points and the server up (care about tactical pvp and pve)

so of cores most ppl are thinking about less pve but you can’t put it away.
if you would do everyone would complain about to easy caps or a single person can cap a keep….
imo the pve should be more challenging. You won’t have too much night cap problems ; You would have the opportunity to defend a camp… Just remember on alpine what happend when your full updated northcamp was under attack.

i think the scaling system should depend on how many defenders are in the area. if you have a big blob fighting a boss with no defenders it should be very hard for them. the more defenders are in the area the “easyer” it should be. it would give defenders the oppertunity to get to defend the keep/tower/camp and it would create some more fights. the scaling of the lord should last for about 2 mins so if you are fighting with a blob and win the fight it should then be an normal lordkill and cap

You are missing a 4th type. Those that just want to finish their dailies.

YB is a boring opponent. Basically you have to drain their map of supplies, kill all their siege, get past all Anet’s cheese mechanics THEN you might get a fight. They’re like the guy in the drinking game bragging that he’s still sober at the end of the night. I’m all for sobriety but buddy pretty much missed the point or joined the wrong game. That’s YB, they’re in wvw to pve.

^this. In my experience, JQ and BL go after each other due to some pretty good fights. While these two are battling it out, YB is back capping, ‘stealth sieging’, PvD, etc.

Pointless to fight YB in this environment. When a BG zerg meets a JQ zerg, there is might stacking, pushing, healing, falling back, strategy, players actually hitting each other with class skills, etc. A fight with YB? YB sees another zerg they immediately drop 10+ siege on a choke point and siege hump, hoping to god the other team charges them. Only idiotic teams will ‘charge’ YB like that, zergs looking for fights will go elsewhere and leave YB to their PvD activities.

I can’t count how many times BQ has teamed up to take down YB. When 2 servers will not fight each other and gang up on the underdog what do you expect that underdog to do? YB came up with tactics to win against getting tag teamed. The only reason JQ and BG are fighting each other now is because neither of them want to be in third.

Yeah, and you have no one to fight… Then you are doing PvD and PvE all the day… Waouw, exciting.

I agree, BS needs to be called on him. I am on Yaks Bend and I run my dailies every day around 6:00PM pacific. I have been running a staff/longbow shout guardian since HoT. I mention this because it is horrible build for pvp but it gets me around the map fast and clears mobs pretty quick. Sometimes when bored I will go around flipping everything with out walls. Every few days I will run into a havoc group but its rare. If I can do that solo with that build at prime time on T1 then that means the maps are empty. The PVP part is gone unless you go to EB. DBL is now just for those looking to get their dailies. Sure you can go around flipping stuff but its really just recapping what all the people getting their dailies flipped. The only exception is when a map is all one color and the zerg from EB decides it wants some quick loot.

EotM vs 'Real' WvW

Long text

Even you, who try to defend EotM can not provide any reason for it to exist. Yes, there was once many players waiting in queues. There is none now. Yes it was suppose to be testing ground. That never happened.

And when they roll out the big WvW update and it goes to Alliances, you’ll then know what’s been tested.

Very exciting!!!

Yup exciting to not be able to notice how many players have left.

Yeah, they spend more effort in making things look like the population isn’t dropping than they do on solutions to stop it from dropping to begin with.
I understand it can be difficult but how many times have they made changes that are in direct opposition to what people want. This is the only game I have played where it honestly feels like a case study on how much they can mess with a game and its player base and still be profitable. IMO they have done way to many things for it to just be bad decisions. Every other MMO I have played has stumbled on the way but GW2’s stumbles feel more blatant to me. Maybe its just the egos that are in charge and they want their vision no matter the cost but that is a really bad attitude to have.

I have to agree. I loved his quest and dungeon in Eye of the North.

Actually, he was introduced with Sorrow’s Furnace release, and exploring the place with Stonekin was… an unforgettable experience.

Leeeeroooy! I mean Kilroooooooy!

Was one of the best jokes IMO added to any game I have played. First time was priceless at launch of Sorrow’s Furnace. A dungeon path where ya zerg through like the original quest would be pretty epic.

Do accounts have "luck", and is it right?

Arenanet wants you to believe everyone has the same chance. Using RNG makes it so everyone does not have the same chance. They want winners that can dangle carrots in front of everyone else. Many of those “unlucky” people will just whip out the credit card to catch up with the Joneses. They use kittenty RNG by design.

What's going on with WvW rewards?

How would they up the rewards in WvW and still avoid farming though? They had that incident in the JP area where the different servers were farming players by killing each other in turn. High enough rewards might end up with zergs farming zergs for drops and gold.

Its really easy actually. Add in participation rewards just like they have in DT, SW, and the HoT maps. Keep the normal rewards as those match up with everything in PVE maps while building participation. Make all events give participation and those completed events that have actual PvP combat during them give more participation. So if you take a defended POI you get more participation then if you take one that is not defended. For defending POIs give participation only when defending from other players but do not give any for just AFKing in one. And lastly make PPT have an affect on participation so servers will be tryring to get those ticks high.

The rewards can be better. Arenanet just needs to take the time to make it happen.

Be patient.

Missed your post Tspatula. Not sure how much I agree, but I’m definitely not in favour of scrapping servers to make “equal-ish large armies”. There needs to be some play option for these yes, but there are players who enjoy the small group warfare and other players who prefer roaming, and some who enjoy all three play styles. I don’t want to see them forced to play in large armies any more than I wanted to have to grind PvE for my guild upgrades.

The 3 guild thing is probably arbitrary and wouldn’t be in the final implementation. Consider that you are already grouped in an large army called your server, alliances would be similar, but more like what you are talking about with renaming things, but with alliances of guilds people would have more choice and it would be easier to move from one to another….

To me the guild alliance means that black quarry won’t need multiple accounts to do their shenanigans.

Be patient.

Indeed, waiting for a Directx9 game to sort itself out… By the time they finally do we will all need special out of date PC’s to run it. =P

Thank you for the laugh of the day +1 to you. And I couldn’t agree more.

Will the "WvW Major Overhaul" be in 2016?

Will gliding be implemented into WvW? I hope.

Gliding is a HoT mastery. So if you don’t have the expansion, you can’t glide. They won’t put it in.

Not necessarily. It could be a mastery.

Yeah, they did add it to Central Tyria so it could very well end up in WvW.

WvW Rewards Overhaul

- “Ego” rewards like rank titles should be made FAR more visible, something like the PvP Icon but for WvW can be a good option

- Commanders should have X rank before being able to purchase the tag, the tag should be a “reward” that needs experience to be unlocked, not gold

- Guilds should be encouraged to take part on WvW as it IS a mode that encourages group play. A ranking of guilds that helped most the server (maybe even with rewards at the end of the month?). A “nemesis” system were your guild can tag other server guild and gain more exp by killing its players or taking its camps/towers/whatever. Or whatever reward systems should be an improvement.

- And yes, special rewards for the mode (finishers, weapons, armors, whatever). PvE has tons, PvP has some, but WvW has none.

Those are all good ideas.

WvW Rewards Overhaul

We would just have to be careful not to warp play patterns with rewards. It’s not helpful for people to go on a camp flipping spree to fulfill conditions of some quest when said spree isn’t actually helping their server. For example, when they let enemies flip an objective so that they can get credit by flipping it back.

That said, rewards based on the outcome of the match are the least warping but are a bit unfair due to population issues. Population is, of course, very difficult to balance as Anet can’t exactly count on people playing WvW consistently since it’s not technically an e-sport. People (and guilds) become active and inactive as they please.

Thus, while I like your ideas, I don’t think that rewards can be addressed without also accounting for population. They could be implemented, though, without harm—just the stacked servers would always reap more rewards which might lead to even more stacked servers.

The answer to this would be to give rewards for holding an objective that are equal to taking one. An easy way would be to add the HoT system of participation. Make PTT a large part of that so the more you get the more participation stacks. This way every event you complete or fail for defending an objective would give you participation. Of course there would have to be something to track actual participation so that people aren’t AFKing but from what I have seen the system works pretty good in HoT maps and Silverwaste. IMO this should be done in addition to all the current rewards and not in replace of them.

I love Guild Wars 2, but am saddened.

I also like the expansion. So what, they should come out and say that they messed up, so now WE, the people who liked it, would feel neglected?

I think that if they hadn’t killed off other older parts of the game there would be less hate towards HoT. Arenanet tried to manipulate the metrics to make HoT look better which back fired and rightfully so. Those that don’t like HoT could have still had a place in the game but arenanet had to go and reduce the rewards every where. Making them so much lower than what you get in HoT or Silverwaste that its not worth doing anymore. So now when people get bored of HoT and/or Silverwaste there is no where to go. It did not need to be this way and a lot of the hate for HoT is because of this. HoT should have been a new area in addition to the old areas. Instead HoT is a new area in place of the old areas. That’s a stupid kittening way to do things and arenanet need to pull their heads out of their kitten.

“As for DX9 and 32bit: Moving off of DX9 wouldn’t buy us a whole lot performance wise, as all interaction with DirectX is happening on the render thread, which is generally not the bottleneck. Moving from 32-bit to 64-bit also does not really buy us a lot performance-wise. There are some optimizations the compiler is able to do with 64-bit that it can’t do otherwise, but the actual FPS gain is minimal at best.”

So yeah he mostly down plays FPS gains but I consider a crash a major hinder to FPS my self. Since a crash basically equals 0 frames being displayed. There is a lot more that he says and I recommend the read

Did devs and your “white knights” said 64bit client wouldn’t increase performance? Yes
Did 64bit client increase performance? No.
So where devs and those “white knights” right? Yes.

Sigue aullando.

It didn’t increase fps but removing crashes is increasing performance. Get over it yall are trying to spin it. Devs said its not worth it and then when HoT made it so that they couldn’t hide the issue anymore they fixed it with the thing they said that wouldn’t help performance.

Like has been mentioned over and over in these threads, its just not a priority to arenanet. Its has nothing to do with what it can or can’t do or will or will not do. Its just not a priority because things are good enough for them. That is all. Spin it how you want but that is the truth. If you think things are good enough I’m happy for you. I have never seen a game abandon the old DX version when adding support for new ones, so I am sure you will still be able to play in DX 9 if they do ever add support for a newer version.

Edit to add that I know the dev did mention specifically tequatl crashes. But they never said they would work on a new client. Then all of a sudden HoT made the crashes more abundant and they couldn’t ignore it anymore . Which only then did it become a priority and they started work on a 64bit client quietly. Then snuck it in to the client downloads page as a beta. If it was something they had been working on previously then it would have launched with HoT. Which shows they only did it when the complaints started rolling in.

I am a computer noob, what would be the difference if we switched to DX12?

According to the devs it would be a much bigger investment than its worth.

That’s what the devs and all the white knights said about the 64 bit client too. And guess what, the 64 bit client helped tremendously with the crashes. They make the excuses because they don’t want to do it not because it won’t help. They would rather spend the dev time on something they can market in the gem store.

They really said that about the 64 bit client? Helped me quite a bit. I think moving to Vulkan or DX12 would be great too but they have access to metrics and budget stuff that says it would’t be worth it

There is dev posts where they said both 64 bit client and newer versions of DX won’t help with performance. They said all the 64bit client would do is increase the amount of ram available which wouldn’t do much and that the small amount of gains from a new dx aren’t worth it. Amazing how 64bit client made such a big difference in the crashes.

DX 12 will make a difference. I don’t expect arenanet to release it tomorrow but they should be working on it.
