Charr and Asura female precursor armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Yes. Charr and Asura are not humanoid, they do not have breasts. They look ridiculous.

But: Why even have separate armors for genders to begin with? Obviously there’s some slight changes that would need to go on for breasts, but that seems minimal in comparison to designing what usually amounts to two completely separate armor sets and selling them under the same name. Sometimes the same armor is SO different between genders – wouldn’t that double the amount of available skins/currency sink and allow people to choose what fits their character best and not what Anet thinks about gender? Yes, let boys wear dresses and bikinis. Yes, let girls pick between tiny tops and head to toe armor. It’s just such an arbitrary division and a waste of work.

I also like what someone else said about Asura and Charr on reddit: they probably have a very different idea of “feminine” and stuffing them in human lady armor without any charr-feminine or asura-feminine alternative is avoiding some cool attention-to-detail world building that we like to see on every level of the game.

Ah, yeah, I also felt like you relied to much on voiced scenes.
Most of the time, there were NPCs around me, but I couldn’t talk to them outside of their voiced scenes. What about dialog boxes, so I can learn more stuff ? Every NPC in the story instances should have a dialog box, you don’t have to fear adding the dialog boxes just because you know people prefer voiced stuff. It would have been a nice touch.
I really missed hanging around and trying to talk to everybody or check every object, like I could in the Priory Living Story instance. :/

I just finished the new personal story, so here’s my point of view about it. Don’t read if you haven’t finished the story yet.

What I enjoyed :

-The fact that the PC considers that Caithe is a traitor. I was really afraid that we’d just be like “I know Caithe has the best reasons in the world, so I’ll totally pardon her for stealing the egg from me while I was lost in a labyrinth and run away alone thinking she’s a one man army <3”.
-The new Asura city ! I was expecting everybody to be dead, but the golems… they’re so funny, I liked the idea of having them still working and doing their jobs. :‘p
-The multiple paths was a good idea, though I’d have loved to see more of those, and choices that matter more.
-I enjoyed being able to talk to a Mordrem Guard freed from the Dragon’s influence. That actually means that you just need to bring a living Mordrem Guard outside of the Maguuma area, and he’ll be freed again, and that could have lead to some interesting stuff buuut… Well, we killed Mordremoth, so there’s no reason to delve into that. :( Also it raises more questions about the Nightmare, who seems to be effective no matter where the Sylvari are (Nightmare Sylvari exist in Mount Maelstrom and the Shiverpeaks).
-I liked hearing Mordremoth and seeing some kind of hallucinations because of that. The fact that I could hit my allies and only see Mordremoth as an ally NPC for a moment during the last fight was also a nice idea. :p
-I thought the character writing was better than before, though the fact that everything seems rushed don’t leave us much time to get interested in the characters.
-My character talking again ! People reacting differently if he’s a Sylvari !

What I didn’t like :

-Everything is too fast. No time to dive into lore or get attached to the new NPCs we meet.
-We meet Faolain just so she “dies” in the exact same instance. It’s pretty much a Cadeyrn situation again, except now we get a Mordrem puppet version of our enemy. I feel like it was some wasted potential (though I liked the chase, but she could have been a clone, for example). I guess that was the last chance for us to see anything Nightmare-Court related, now that the Jungle Dragon is dead, and I’m very disappointed in that, I’d have loved to understand more thing about it, and see more than Faolain and one other random unnamed NPC in a cage. And Faolain fleed the Court back in TA, so I hardly see her as a leader anymore.)
-…What about Malyck and his tree ? I thought this expansion would be finally where we get some answers, and… we got nothing.
-We killed Mordremoth, right there. I was hoping that we would do it in a future raid, honestly. The story instances were very cool and I enjoyed the fight (that music… <3) and the idea of hitting him through the “Dream”, but I wish we didn’t kill him so fast. I hoped for a trap to close in on the heroes, a twist leading to the next living story season, but nope.
-…The trailer was nothing like what we saw. No Rytlock pushing people against Sylvari, no Canach defending himself against Seraphs, no Faolain and his Nightmare Court army causing chaos. :(
-It’s a time mess. The Pact is supposed to have crashed on the release day, but Eir tells us that she was starving for days. And then we kill a dragon, but even supposed that we took a few days to get to him… there’s just no impact on the main cities, nothing that changed. All the Sylvari racism buildup lead to nothing (I guess people are too busy partying with the Mad King ?). That was really my biggest expectation for the expansion : having the HoT evenements matter in the world.
-NO MORDREM GUARD TONIC ? (Okay just kidding for that one, I guess it’s a rare drop :’p I just really hope it exist !)

So… Overall I think everything was too fast, and that it lacked answers about Sylvari-related lore, which was very frustrating. No impact on the world from HoT is very disappointing, though I hope that the living story’s going to chance that.
I do enjoy the expansion and the writing actually made me care about the story this time (I didn’t for the Zhaitan campaign), but it left me really frustrated.

Does no one remember Priest Grady, who gave his life to guide ships to safety till his last moments during the siege on Lion’s Arch? Does nobody remember the pain his passing caused to his daughter?

I feel like Phoenix Roost just sounds very generic and not linked to the history or lore of the current LA at all. You guys should play this game more. :P

Lions Arch may 19 update

in Living World

Posted by: Jia Shen.4217

Jia Shen.4217

I have been away from the game with other things in life to do and now I am back playing again. So this is my first time seeing this update. I find it really neat that they are updating lions arch finally. After all in-game timeline months maybe even a year has passed since it was destroyed. And the same workers have been working in the same exact spot for all that time. They and I assume the vast majority of players want a “living world”, yet the game remains very static. Note this is not meant as a complaint. Remaining static for a time is good as it allows more people to experience the changes as they take place without having to be on every day or every week for that matter.

However with certain things like this it doesn’t make sense and also completely destroys the immersion when poof there is this massive change in one place that took months ever a year to get to that point. So why when they had the opportunity to make this much more than it is did we simply get a poof here it is change? With a year of real time having passed we could have been given small side content to the main story telling the story of the rebuilding. This could have been done with cinematics with a narrator telling us a story along with gradual changes in the zone itself.

Or it could have been a 3rd section in the story journal called the rebuilding of lions arch and had chapters like the rest. Then that would have given them the opportunity for players to interact in the story telling from the perspective of one of the characters involved in the rebuilding. This character could be someone of importance to the rebuilding. This character probably should have been new to the players. That way we get to experience story from an aspect different than normal game play with our own characters.

These story instances with this story character could have involved all sorts of non combat activities to tell the story. And at the same time not be just simple fetch and run errands. The story would be told, in combination with cinematics, through talking with npcs in much the way they tell the main story to us. There could have been event like things within the instances. The players actions could be solving puzzle style content. But I’m sure if a relatively uncreative person like me when compared to the creative people working on the game can think of these things they could have; it makes me wonder why they didn’t and we get just a poof here it is magically massive man power change instantly here.

With that said I don’t think it is too much to ask and expect future changes like this to get some sort of story telling along the lines of the suggestions in this post. I would have been happy with narrated cinematics once a month or so with incremental improvements to tell this particular aspect of the story. Thank you for reading and hopefully affirmatively incorporating ideas like this to tell this story and future changes.

NPC-only armors and faces compilation

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

PetboyJoshua.3108

There’s a ton of those ingame, and we still can’t get them. Most of them are Cultural. If Arenanet isn’t planning to give them to us in HoT, what about just adding new Cultural vendors ? It’s not like they have to work on creating
Some of them look like outfit (some human dresses, for example), but some other seem to be regular armors, as some NPC even mix some parts. There’s clearly something to be done with those, plus it can be quite frustrating to see all those existing skins without a chance to unlock them.

There’s also some single headgears, and a few faces that are restricted to NPCs (and no, I don’t think that giving an unique face to an NPC like Blaize who only appears in the lv 10 human storyline and die is important. Even Trahearne has a face that’s used by other Sylvari NPCs.).
What about adding those NPC-only faces to the character creation for Heart of Thorns ? Arenanet, please ?

Pictures attached, you’ll see that there’s a ton of NPC-exclusive stuff, and I’m quite sure I’ve forgot some (there may be some NPC-only Norn faces, but as I don’t play that race, I couldn’t tell).

EDIT : Updated with some Asura faces. Don’t hesitate to share if you’ve got some screens of more NPC exclusive stuff.

Top questionable decision Anet have made.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: warbignime.4610

Anet have made some questionable decisions during the years of GW2 development , beta and after launch.
1. Remove Loading screen lore, Loading screen use to have text/lore. Anet removed it later on, What is the point of removing extra flavour text? Please bring them back.
2.No duelling , It is their design choice to not add duelling into the game rather than technical difficulty. I understand where the worry comes from, duelling might encourage unfriendly players to annoy others , but they can always add a auto decline all duel option . I see duelling as a nice way of making friends, I have enough faith in our community to not abuse this feature.
3.Remove Lore book, during old betas there use to be lore books all around, they give player extra lores about creature, organization, locations and events with motion pictures. Again, why remove the extra flavour and lore?
4.The launch trailer, many of you might not know but the launch trailer of GW2 is beyond horrible. It’s one of the worst trailer ever I have seen in my entire life, there are even no actual game in it. It definitely affected GW2 initial sales. Who thought that was a good idea?
That’s all I can think of for now.

Some must fight so that all may be free.

Revert Camera Changes

Iason Evan.3806

I totally disagree OP. I have found the changes to be wonderful across the board. I don’t even mind the bugs(and there have been quite a few). This should have been in from day 1, but I think artist pride put form over function. This is so much better from a player’s perspective. The camera doesn’t feel like a hindrance anymore.

What’s wrong with just using the default settings OP?

I couldn’t go back. There are things to fine tune for sure, but ArenaNet will get it sorted.

My suggestion to the team is to always put player QoL in front of all else. Camera wonkiness is gone. That wonkiness was detrimental to the game for me. Thanks for the changes. They are awesome!

Please, Arenanet, can’t you add a toggle off option for the outfit’s pauldrons ?
Everytime I see a really nice outfit, that is ruined by those awfully large pauldrons, I cringe. Can’t you at least add an option to toggle off the pauldrons ?
I’m sure I’m not the only person who’d rather not buy an outfit at all rather than having to see my character running around with pauldrons the size of his head (or even bigger, if you play with a male Sylvari, they’re often oversized).

EDIT : It’s NOT a thread to complain about outfits not being 6 part armors. It’s just about asking for a hide option for the shoulder parts.

Suggestion: new Mastery - Climbing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kartel.2561

Kartel.2561

I can’t wait to experiencing Gliding and other Masteries in HoT. But we also are to understand that this is introducing a system that will be added onto going forward. So how about add one that allows us to climb ladders, vines, etc. Basically “designated climbable surfaces”.

What would mastery points get you beyond basic climbing?
Maybe a form of passive or active stability to brace yourself prevent being knocked/blown off.
Maybe an ability to quickly descend safely.
Maybe an ability to kick enemies or objects.
Maybe an ability to swing around and hop off in the middle to access spots you otherwise couldn’t.

So what kind of content could make use of this mechanic? Cantha / Kaineng City immediately comes to mind. I don’t think that should need much elaboration.

Also, while moving platforms are (currently) an issue, if they could ever manage to give us vehicles such as ships, airships, or tanks, these could make use of different kinds of climbable surfaces like metal ladders, rope ladders, climbing the mast of a ship up to a crow’s nest.

And what about jumping puzzles and other secret areas. Maybe there’s some cliff side that doesn’t look that interesting, but there’s a spot with a vine you can climb up and suddenly it becomes a bit more interesting.

All in all, I’d say climbing is a very worthy candidate for a future mastery.

Heart of thorn so little content?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: PorceleinEve.2973

PorceleinEve.2973

They have been working on this expansion for years. do you honestly think it took hundreds of anet employees to make the living world season 1 and 2 content over the last 2.5 years? They probably had like 20 developers working on that stuff while the rest focused on the expansion. Living story is just, and will continue to be, stuff we get to fill the gaps between expansions, which I love considering other mmos only release expansions then nothing new for 6-12 months.

If they have been working on this for years, it’s bloody amazing they haven’t got a betah yet, and some of the specializations and the revenant details are not final yet. Realistically speaking they haven’t been working on this for years. Cause they wanted the living story to be their thing. And it just didn’t work out for them. China didn’t go as stellar as they hoped either. That’s why we’re getting this living story + feature patch “expansion” now. I mean truly, if all we get is 3 to 4 new zones, a new class and masteries after 2.5 years of development, we’re pretty much doomed. 2,5 years and they couldn’t add a dungeon? Some new fractals? A new race? Fix underwater combat? or add the ability to have skills/traits templates? Hell not even the ability for rangers to perma name their pets! I think it’s time we faced the reality of our situation. This is a filler expansion while they’ll start working on a proper one later on. We’ll get stelar quality living story content for the price of an expansion and a possibly cool (i most certainly hope so) feature patch. And that’s ok.

How can you even claim this when everything they’ve said literally says they’ll be getting new mechanics? They are not a completely new class, but they are not going to be 2-5 new weapon abilities. We’re talking serious changes that would require you to switch between the specialization and the normal class in order to use either of them. We’ve already heard references to a Druid Ranger, we’ve seen the Hammer Engineer with floating drones (things normal engineers have neither of, including anything remotely related to melee skills since they have none), and we’ve seen the Shield Mesmer using their shield to do some butterfly thing, who knows exactly what that is.

Maybe some of the specs are less different from the original class than others, but they are a lot more different than you’re letting on, and there’s nothing backing up your statements, at least not from Anet.

I claim that cause the ranger’s mechanic is their pet. And the druid will still have pets. That’s evidence that suggests that the core mechanics will not change dramatically (we might not even get a new trait line like it was originally hypothesized, just new shiny traits to go with the specialisation) but will be modified instead. Take that engineer for example and his floating drones. Even that can be handled like a modified base mechanic. All they have to do is have traits that affect turrets affect them too. See what i mean? New class mechanics are hard to do. It’s like designing a new class altogether. it’s unrealistic to believe that such a thing will happen. That’s why we’re getting specilisations in the first place.

That last bit is not really an argument, we’re expressing our opinions, our take on things. Same goes for you. You got nothing also (well ok you got promises but the value of words in the mmo industry is quite low, and for a good reason). They haven’t shown anything yet. But from what they have shown, you can easily infer what i said. In a few weeks we’ll know for sure. But, don’t hold your breath. I honestly and sincerely hope that i’m wrong and that we do get almost like a new and shiny class for each and every class we already have. I’d love that. But i feel that that’s unrealistic and we already got the first indications that that is not going to happen.

Suggestion - Underwear/Undergarments?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Imperios.2543

Imperios.2543

AFAIK, many female players were displeased that many sets of female armour in Guild Wars 2 are very revealing and unpractical. This is understandable: few girls like to look like women of loose sexual morals.

This problem should be fixed somehow.

But I’m a man and I sure as hell do not want to lose my sexy norn elementalist with a lightning whip and my sylvari warrior in plate bikini.

So how about introducing cosmetic undergarments as a form of compromise? These undergarments could take form of shirts (like in World of Warcraft), jackets, pants, perhaps chainmail for heavy armour users; the more plain-looking ones could be bought with gold, while the fancier ones could easily fit in the gem shop. This way, women can have modestly-dressed, more realistic characters, while men can have scantily-clad hotties they like (or vice versa – there are revealing sets of armour for men too in GW2, after all). It’s a win-win situation!

No matter what current method chosen, it is still light years away from your very comment that by level 80, players should have the best statistical loot in the game.

Yeah to be clear on that one, as we’ve said before: we made that statement before the game launched, ultimately realized we didn’t think it was the right decision for Gw2 – and changed our mind. I fully own making this statement, the day I said it was our plan – our lead designer decided it was the wrong direction for the game after we stated it, and we changed direction.

Sometimes plans will change, I can assure you it’s never our intention to intentionally mislead/trick anyone, that’s simply the nature of development: from time to time things we say at one point later have to change.

I've redesigned the UI & the official website

Hi guys,

I’m a Senior UX UI designer and I’ve been playing GW2 since the betas, with long breaks in-between and since I’ve spent quite a lot of hours with this game, I’ve noticed some flaws in the games UX (user experience) and thus I decided to tackle it in order to diversify my portfolio. This lead me to redesigning some of the in-game UI’s & the official website.

About the project
The project started last summer, as I was redesigning my portfolio website, I wanted to take a break from my regular website design so I started redesigning the GW2 official website, since I missed working on a more creative & artsy website. This last holiday season I had a few days free so I decided to continue this project and tackle the in-game UI’s since I wasn’t really a fan of how some things were currently done.

What I’ve redesigned

  • Looking for Group Panel & the related tabs
  • Character Panel
  • Guild Tab
  • The Story Journal & the related tabs
  • Created a Lore Journal & related tabs

The Entire Design in PDF format – Horizontal layout

The Entire Design in JPG format – Vertical layout

Note
There are a lot of explanations that point out to different things & the reason behind my design decisions. The entire project took roughly 2-3 weeks, so It could be better, but unfortunately I don’t have access to actual game or player data and I kinda ran out of free time.

Hope you enjoy.

UPDATE:
Since some of you wanted to see how this would look in-game, I made a quick in-game prototype:

I think it would be high time to bring the old thread-cluster back, which was a valuable resource for both devs and players.

Not to mention you can’t even name your thread properly as you have to type [Suggestion] in front of it every time, thus decreasing your character limit.

not saying u need become an old man after u play 2 years but lets say start as little kid choose ur proffession then after lv 40 u be a teenager and at lv 80 u reach ur final form. That all could be combined with the Personal story.

GW2 vs. FF-XIV

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Orpheal.8263

Orpheal.8263

I haven’t played FF14, the subscription fee basically scared me off from playing it, but would FF14 have the alternative option of playing it also without subscription fee, I’d definetely play it over GW2 now, while waiting on GW2 getting some real new content together with some of my gaming friends, which moved over already since the release of FF14 and sporadically come over to GW2 only, when a new Patch comes since then and don’t play GW2 so actively anymore, like I do.

But from what I know about the game and what you can see from all of their Teasers is, that there are definetely alot of things in FF14, that are done far better, than in GW2, more compelling, more like a real RPG from what you would normally expect also from a MMORPG, that basically GW2 wants to try to be, but really doesn’t feel like due to missing absolutely all those required RPG flavor tools and mechanics, that are today in a MMO for that pretty standard.

Sure, GW2 also has its advantages like:

  • Better Combat System
  • Better Color System for Character Individualization
  • Has a Scaling System
  • Has the better playable Races with the exception of the Miqo’te, but thats just personal preference (I just love Neko Races <3 and the Charr don’t appeal to me as they look like the typical race, that otherwise a WoW player would play in WoW as Tauren, just a bit morte looking like Cats)
  • Better PvP/ WvW
  • Better Event System

but against this stands all this, what FF14 does better or provides, what GW2 doesn’t:

  • Supreme Housing (one of the nicest Housing Systems that I’ve ever seen so far)
  • Mount Raising
  • A way better Crafting System that isn’t just a borign click 1 Button and watch a Bar fill up-Crafting like in GW2
  • A much better Character Progression
  • Far more Emotes
  • Far more Dungeons
  • Far much more Monster Variety everywhere (you see there basically no copy pasted creatures, every place has its complete own different Monsters and creatures)
  • Much better Story Telling, there you just know, that the game comes from an experienced RPG Developer that is Square Enix from the first minute on
  • Much better advertising for the game with Teasers/Cinematics
  • Offers also lots of visual eye candy with awesome animated Cut Scenes, what is SE’s speciality about the FF games since decades
  • Offers Side Activities, like Gardening, Fishing
  • Has more epic looking Bosses that aren’t boring to fight, cause of them all doing different things and can’t be so cheesy easy killed, like for example the Shatterer.
Their big bosses all can move around and aren’t static
  • A better Stat System, where not just 1 Stat Combo is everything and where the Condition System sucks under that situation, like in GW2

TL/DR

When you compare both games, one quickly can see, that both sides have their own Pros and Cons.
And simply said, it would be just the best for everybody, if the Devs would learn from each others side, so that both games could get improved with things, that the other side does better, without saying, that each other should copy the competition.
No, that would be lazy, but ANet for example could improve GW2 with so many things that other games have done, in their own way and style, that if GW2 would have all the thigns, that FF14 has or did better, that you would say that you can’t recognize GW2 after it being the same anymore, as it would be after those additions clearly alot better, than before and would feel like a complete new game with all that content more and more and better advertising all around that with the same quality, like SE does for their game since the first initial flop they had with FF14 and massively redesigned the game after that.

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

Yeah, no.

ArenaNet, don’t remove content. Actually, stop removing content, because you already have – recently and a long time ago.

Also, stop ignoring content that people don’t like just because it isn’t popular – maybe if you revamped things, or fixed bugs, things would become more popular, since poor design and bugs tend to push people off things.

So at some point, what needs to be done is not “remove underwater combat” but instead “improve underwater combat and exploration.” It was a huge selling point of your game, stop removing it bit by bit just because it didn’t pan out – if you do that, then you may as well scrap the whole game, because it sure didn’t pan out to how you claimed. Unfortunate, but true. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be improved yet.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Under water combat doesn’t suck, it just needs tweaking (like not letting sharks aggro you from across the ocean as soon as you go under water >.>).

I enjoy the under water stuff and would love to see underwater combat expanded upon, or have entire under water maps

Resident smug Englishman on the NA servers, just because.
