Story missions too unfair for solo players

It would certainly be nice if the strength of enemies in story instances could scale depending on whether you are alone or in a party. I don’t like group play, so I end up doing everything by myself, and have also struggled with many mobs and bosses. Sure, I end up succeeding in the end, but only after extreme frustration. This happens no matter what class or build I play.

what's wrong with male Norns?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Moyayuki.3619

Moyayuki.3619

Exactly, if Norn were supposed to look like that, then the women should as well. The women look just like tall human women, whereas the men do have some odd proportions. One thing that bugs me is how their necks stick forward so much (and are also very short necked). I can never imagine making a male Norn because none of the design choices appeal to me. But I’m more than happy to make an overweight (as much as is possible in this game) male Human, because at least they don’t look oddly built.

I agree! There are certain outfits I like but the shoulders get in the way. Although I love the phoenix motif of the Imperial Outfit, the decorative part on it really likes to clip through my character’s hair and heads at times, which is distracting. Also, some races/genders’ shoulders on some outfits look awful compared to others.

I wish Eir had died in-character instead of like a suburban housewife though. I was really disappointed by the choreography of that scene, not so much that she died but the poor manner of it.

She’s fully capable of shapeshifting into a werewolf to fight (which she does in the norn personal story), is a master of wilderness survival, is a norn, and has fought creatures vastly more terrifying than a veteran vinetooth. Then she gets 1-shot without putting up a fight?

It would have been better if we’d found her half-dead from the crash, and then she passed away right there without any combat. I remember she complained about “no food or water for days”… except that again, she’s a wilderness expert? What? And she’s a norn, probably capable of going for weeks in inhospitable conditions, so again… what? And she’s a legendary hero… I mean surviving the basics shouldn’t even be an issue for Eir. Not to mention she goes for a run right after being released, so she’s not crippled. None of that sequence made sense for who and what Eir Stegalkin is.

The other thing is why on earth is Faolain there? Even after all these months, none of it makes any sense. The Open World story was much much better. After the first personal story mission to free Laranthir, it went rapidly down hill. I did like the personal story in Rata Novus though, that was good.

I also have to say, Braham needs to stop behaving like a sniveling human and think more like a norn. Less small-minded personal vendatta, more world-saving legendary dragon slayer. I really wish my norn would take him aside and give him a pep-talk… he needs to think bigger than his personal problems.

Agreed with practically all of this. Eir should have gone down fighting like the warrior she is. Unless if they meant for her pathetic death to intentionally make us angry at Mordremoth, or something. This is not the death I expected Eir to have. It’s pathetic.

I’m actually fed up with the attitudes of nearly all of the DE 2.0 characters. There’s nothing to make me care for them.

…Eir and Faolain? I finally continued the HoT story and finished that chapter yesterday. And I was heavily disappointed. It felt pointless, cheap, only for ridiculous drama that was not needed. (This is just my personal opinion, however.) It just brings up some questions.

1.) Will we even see Caithe’s response to learning Faolain’s death? She had been such a central figure to Caithe’s story, and there was a love-hate dichotomy going on (Caithe still had feelings for Faolain, but hated the fact that she had turned evil, and therefore took many things she did personally. One needs only look at the whole flashback scenes from last LS season). So surely Caithe will feel something? And what other implications does that create?

2.) Why Eir, specifically? Out of all of Destiny’s Edge, why Eir? Yeah, I know her son is in DE 2.0, but that’s not a good enough excuse. It just seems to put focus on just the Norn member of DE, and so anyone who knows of this future event who creates a Norn will have the knowledge that their mentor will die in the future. But, why? It just feels so unnecessary. I really do not want this new group to be the “new” Destiny’s Edge since they really don’t interest me like the original members did. I also just feel nothing for this cheap move of ANet’s. No shock, no sadness, just…confusion.

3.) Why? That’s all I want to know. Why kill those two at all? Cheap drama, that’s all it is. I’ve had a day to think it over, and I still don’t get it. Living Story has really soured my outlook of the GW2 world and characters, especially with Dry Top, Silverwastes, and HoT maps being a chore to play in.

…Memorial, is that when it tells you to “honor Eir however you want”, you really do not get to pick and choose. Talking to the individuals did not up the bar, only carving the ice sculptures, tending to Garm, and putting a flower at her statue were viable to fill up the bar. We do not get to honor “however we want”, in the end.

Honestly (and this would be an in-character thing for my toon), I wish that it could have given the option to drink from the ale (as well as eat food). Getting super drunk probably would have been my toon’s way of coping with the loss, as well as probably partying as a result. Alcohol is all over the game, and is even one reason why GW2 is rated Teen. So why couldn’t we have made our characters drink what we want during the memorial? Norn do it all the time, culturally-speaking.

Salvage pit was so extremely easy I didn’t even undertanded when it ended. All the others have different grades of difficulty, more or less possible to do, but none is beatable the first time without any effort like salvage pit.

There is clearly an enormous problem in the difficulty balance of these things. Also, I don’t understand why aren’t they part of the normal activities of the map.

Yep, so far Salvage Pit is the easiest of the Adventures I’ve played. Once I finally was able to even access the shooting range one (blanking out on its name), I quickly found it to be rather easy, BUT difficult to get past Bronze. And the one in Tarir where you collect those orbs via updrafts isn’t too bad, either.

All the rest I’ve tried (I haven’t found or done all of them) are incredible levels of frustration.

I also prefer the original GW2 Lion’s Arch. It not only had more character, but was much easier to navigate. Now it feels like, to quote others, a “theme park”. It does not feel like a place where people live at all. Everything is too large, spaced too far apart. The decor is odd-looking, to say the least. It doesn’t’ feel like an international (Tyrian) city. Sure, you can also argue that the original LA didn’t feel “international” either, but it just was more aesthetically-pleasing.

PVE not competitive enough.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Moyayuki.3619

Moyayuki.3619

There is a reason why one is called “Player versus Environment” and the other “Player versus Player” and “World versus World”.

Argh, OP idea of competitive is obviously different from the norm.

And that’s why all the salt. Sometimes changes are good. Old populations have to step down and let the young ones take over, it cannot always be old one’s game. But some are just willing to grip on with their last teeth and do whatever it takes to make the game as stale as possible and unchanged, when in reality, the majority of the population no longer wants it, it’s just the relics of the old ones.

May I ask what you would consider an “old population” in regards to Guild Wars 2? I’m greatly curious. Is it an age thing? Or based upon the games that the player began with before transitioning to GW2? But regardless of your answer, this mindset is just plain toxic and elitist. It suggests that there is a group of people who are no longer allowed to play certain games. It’s like telling someone who dislikes the path that the Halo franchise is going, who loved the original trilogy of games, that because of that they should move on from Halo entirely and never bother with it.

Need more explorable areas in GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Moyayuki.3619

Moyayuki.3619

Yeah, when a map is jam-packed with mobs, it kind of kills my desire to actually explore. I end up just taking shortcuts and hugging the outside edges of paths so I don’t have to be forced to fight. I know I’ve mentioned this elsewhere, but it’s something I also miss from World of Warcraft. I miss the variety of environments, especially DESERTS. Just running across the sands without too many obstacles, driven by a desire to find out what is on the other side of the flats.

That’s my thought: GW2 needs a greater variety of environments to spur on exploration, because as it is now, each “zone” is just the same environemtns but with increasing levels of complexity and frustration (example: Going from Wayfarer Foothills north to Forstgorge Sound, or south to Dredgehaunt cliffs. Not nearly as much variety between Shiverpeak maps as I would like to see). We either get temperate zone (Kryta), jungle-ish zone (Maguuma), snow + mountains (Shiverpeaks), brown land (Ascalon), crazier jungle (Heart of Maguuma), rocks and more rocks (Maguuma Wastes), or dead zone (Orr).

Complaint: Player character and Caithe

in Living World

Posted by: Moyayuki.3619

Moyayuki.3619

To elaborate on my post, and after reading the responses here, I will say that what bothers me the most about what was done with the PC and Caithe, is that Caithe is a major character, a member of Destiny’s Edge, and the mentor to any Sylvari character you create. I’ve never seen her in a negative light, she just has flaws like the rest of us and has shown great determination to not give in to evil, especially after what she experienced with Faolain’s treachery. In fact, she was one of the characters who initially opened conversation to bring DE back together during Vanilla GW2. How can anyone think that someone like that would be up to anything nefarious? I just can’t stand how the PC and the rest of the characters made blatant assumptions about CAITHE of all people. They jumped to conclusions with no factual evidence.

As I said in my original post, I never, ever assumed that Caithe stole the egg for evil, and did not view her as responsible for Faolain’s poor decision-making (the blame lies solely on her, she was in charge of her own destiny, after all. And Caithe killing that one Sylvari before Faolain could torture her was a sign of mercy). I just can’t udnerstand why the writers would make all of the characters view Caithe evilly, when I saw no evidence of evil in her. It’s really making me hate my PC’s personality, because IRL I would never be so cruel to someone when I had no idea what happened. I would ask for an explanation instead of being in such deep denial.

What do you think of Lion's Arch?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Moyayuki.3619

Moyayuki.3619

I prefer the original GW2 LA. It felt more logical in its setup, easy to get around, whereas the new one deviates so far from what it used to be that I can’t even consider it “Lion’s Arch” anymore, and everything feels so darn cluttered. Nothing makes sense in the new city. Loved the city gates in the old one, where when you exit the hub you are greeted by a large statue of a LION. “Lion’s” Arch. New city is more like “Shell’s Arch” or something. I really dislike trying to complete the LA map now due to how confusing the layout is. It may have “character” but it has no character, if that makes sense. Easily forgettable because it deviated too far from its roots.

New playable race - good or bad idea?

Somehow, I doubt that a new race will be added (any time soon), and I realize the community is split on the topic. However, I personally would love to be able to play as a Tengu, since I love avian races in fiction. I also am interested in their culture, but don’t know much. For armor, they essentially could use the template of Charr armor since their body postures are similar and both have tails.

I just want to be an avian creature in a video game more once… Cats and other animals are done to death as playable characters.

New playable race - good or bad idea?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Moyayuki.3619

Moyayuki.3619

If they do introduce a new race (and I hope they will), I’m 90% certain that it will be the Tengu. They were originally slated to be the 6th playable race at launch, but got cut due to lack of time. They already have a capital city of their own, have a distinct and unique model and culture (one reason why I don’t think Kodan would be a good idea is that they’re too similar thematically to the Norn, both of them being big, physically powerful arctic-dwelling beings), and unlike some of the other races, they presumably have the numbers and the resources to contribute to a global fight against the Elder Dragons and other world-spanning threats.

As for the Personal Story, I suspect a 6th race would have its own Personal Story, tied to a big trip to Cantha or Elona that all the races can play through. Think of it as something similar to Factions or Nightfall, where new characters (in this case the new race) gets to play some early missions before starting the level 80 content, which is also where all existing characters join in.

That would just make me so happy. As I never played GW1 (I played WoW in those days), I have been desiring to play in Cantha and Elona. And I’ve always wanted a playable avian race in an RPG, but no one has ever made any. Elder Scrolls has Khajiit (feline) and Argonian (reptilian), and GW2 has Charr (feline). Makes me sad!

The difference is, the roach would ruin that entire cake that you just spent money on, whereas the bug affects only one day of a game that you buy once and can choose to not spend any further money on for the entire time you own it. So, yes, some people were very negatively affected by the rollback, but others were not, but the cake analogy doesn’t work.

Caithe. (LVS3 Possible Spoilers)

in Living World

Posted by: Moyayuki.3619

Moyayuki.3619

I made my own topic on this before I found out this one existed and, to put it simply, I do not understand the blind distrust and hatred the player character (PC) has for Caithe. It makes me glad that I’ve never gotten to LWS2, HoT, and LWS3 with a Sylvari character because it would feel so OoC, after developing a bond with Caithe as a mentor and friend. When I first played LWS2, I never viewed Caithe taking the egg as an evil act. I knew, based on my experiences with her in the vanilla Personal Story, that she had good reasons to do what she does. The hatred the PC exhibits against her, that comes to a head in LWS3, just boggles my mind and has no good explanation.

Caithe, the Sylvari mentor, and a member of Destiny’s Edge who initially tries to bring them back together after Snaff’s death, is suddenly distrusted. She’s the last Sylvari I would assume to be so easily controlled by Mordremoth. We saw in LWS2 that she got into some unsavory situations thanks to Faolain, but none of it was done with deliberate malice in mind. She killed Centaurs over a misunderstanding. She didn’t want to kill them. She didn’t know that it was Faolain who started the attack. Heck, when I first played that instance, I felt my jaw drop in disbelief as the game MADE me fight them. it made me question the writers, not Caithe. But then when Caithe kills the Sylvari at the end of LWS2, I viewed it as a mercy – not only to protect the horrible truth about Sylvari, but also to spare her a horrible, painful death at the hands of Faolain.

I really have not liked the path that the writers have taken Caithe and the PC, especially making the PC have such a defined personality with none of the choices available that we had in the vanilla Personal Story. I feel very distanced from my PC, because they are too defined. The writers got to dictate what kind of person the PC was in the Living Story, not me, and that rubs me the wrong way after seeing my characters be more fluid in the Personal Story.

I will always trust Caithe and find the PC’s hatred of her unjustified. Who the hell doesn’t allow an ally to explain themselves, and just jumps to unnecessary conclusions?

I haven’t read all the posts above, but most of them and you’re not taking into account that these bosses appear in low lvl zones and many players participating may not be lvl 80, geared as well as u, or hardened by HoT. For those players that are on lvl, this battle would be extremely hard and they probably get 1 shot by any of these champs if hit, let alone the executioner. Give a bit of thought eh?

There are lot of new players in this game, first timers and ur all talking about as if everyone is max lvl and has experienced the end game content and so forth. Imo for those lvl zones and ppl trying to fight these bosses on lvl. they’re way op for them.

That’s a good point. Some of the bandits were in Brisban Wildlands, yes? That’s a 15-25 level zone, so that’s a huge disparity. Guess they just chose the zones based on where it would make sense for these bandits to be hanging out in, regardless of the zone’s level.

My issue with environments/geography

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Moyayuki.3619

Moyayuki.3619

You haven’t seen a “true desert” yet because there are not desert zones currently in the game.

The Magumma Wastes areas (Silverwastes and Dry Top) aren’t a desert as much as they are a large mesa formation in the middle of the jungle. They have a very similar took to how this area of the world was presented in the first game.

Do a google search for “GW1 Ventari’s Refuge” and “GW1 Crystal Desert” for reference.

That said, I think the post-release maps have done a great job to attempting to differentiate themselves, though the release era maps can feel a little samey at times. Especially the shiverpeaks maps. Kryta used to have this issue, which was, as I recall, one of the main reasons they did the whole nightmare tower in kessex in the first place, so they could revamp Kessex so it felt less like Queensdale.

Perhaps in the future we’ll see these sort of changes hit some of the other release era maps that are overly similar.

Although, the last thing I want to see happen is another Kessex fiasco where there’s destruction everywhere ugly-ing up the place. I’m really getting tired of the fact that ANet hasn’t made a lore decision to finally clean it up.

Sure, the new maps do differentiate themselves from core Tyria…but it’s not my cup of tea. Annoying, powerful mobs clogging up the roads, a perpetual jumping puzzle everywhere you go, things being locked behind meta events, etc. Even then, I don’t think there’s enough GOOD variety in GW2’s environments. The only variety I’ve seen is the annoying kind, IMO.

It would be so helpful if items for collections would automatically go “into” the collection (except for weapons and other things that you could equip); keys had a “key ring”, so to speak, to automatically be deposited into; and so forth. HoT/LWS3 has added a lot of extraneous (but not unuseful) items that just end up clogging my inventory, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s grown frustrated about this. I just recently increased my main toon’s inventory to 100 slots by crafting bags and I just can feel that it will feel clogged again eventually. It’s also the fact that I can’t always tell, even when going into a wiki, how vital an item is for me, personally, so I end up leaving it and not selling or destroying it, just to e safe.

Thoughts on this?

Pause.
Look around.
Make decisions about paths to take, angles of approach, and so on based on a considered approach.

In my short experience (I only bought HoT a couple of weeks ago) the single greatest contributor to character death has been a lack of situational awareness. We did not really need to pay attention to what was going on around us in the core maps and so we became accustomed to just charging in, essentially blindly.

We did not need to be aware that a patrol passes through the spot where we intend to attack a mob because adds meant more drops, not more danger. Now one might want to be aware of patrol patterns, pull foes away from such paths, and be already thinking about what one will do if/when the unexpected spawn occurs or one is knocked into a nearby foe’s aggro range.

I am not as young as I once was I am not as good of a player as many. I lack the reflexes I had even just a few years ago. But I have found that by putting some forethought into my actions and being prepared with contingencies for the inevitable SNAFU, HoT is not particularly difficult.

One big issue with these maps is, you see where you want to go (even if it’s looking only at the map since you cannot spot a Mastery Point from the ground), you look around, you find a path…and end up being driven in the opposite direction than you intended, and no clearer paths can be found. I only got two Mastery Points in Verdant Brink because the rest are either in really difficult areas, or can’t even be seen no matter where I go. These maps are a chore, not fun, and I can’t go “enjoy the scenery” and fully explore because I’m always trying not to get killed or fall to my death.

One mistake in 4 years, yup, time to complain on the forums for more gold.

Sadly the 1st response almost hits the nail on the head. The OP doesn’t seem to understand why they shut it down, just that they are mad it was.

So a restaurant gets a new dish(the patch) and ingredients in that dish manage to spread e coli or salmonella or something bad(the soulbound glitch). Once multiple people begin to get sick from it, they realize something is wrong and shut the restaurant down to clean and sanitize(fix and rollback). If you were to drive up to the restaurant for lunch and it was closed, would you find somewhere else to eat lunch and come back a different day? Or would you stand outside the restaurant waiting for them to reopen it with NO SET TIME of when that will be?
The next day you go back there for lunch, do you walk in and say “HEY I couldn’t get lunch here yesterday cause of you idiots….give me a COOKIE!”

I really hope the OP didn’t sit at their computer the entire time waiting for the game to be back up, I’ve got 29.6k ap so I’ve played a lot…and still found other things to do in the meantime, the game doesn’t have to be the ONLY thing you try to do for 8.5 hours.

That actually sounds like a very realistic comparison to what happened, more or less. Let’s just hope that, like the restaurant analogy, people are not driven away from GW2 after this.

[Feedback] The forced feeling Caithe-hate

in Living World

Posted by: Moyayuki.3619

When faced with an innocent who feared being captured and tormented by someone that Caithe agreed would torture the poor woman, Caithe opted to kill the innocent rather than oppose the person she actually believed would commit the heinous act. This despite the fact that she was more powerful than the villain of the piece and could easily stop her.

Great hero there.

Didn’t you even pay attention to the fact that Wynne was adamant that she be killed? And I really don’t think that Faolain would be against trying to hurt Caithe if she stood in her way. It wasn’t that Caithe was trying to protect Faolain or anything of that sort. She just listened to the plea of this “innocent”, and I remember her expression and movements being hesitant. She didn’t enjoy it, but she couldn’t deny Wynne her request.

I never called her a “hero”, either. I noticed all of the anti-Caithe players like to put words into other people’s mouths. I don’t understand, is it just fun to hate on a video game character who’s never been portrayed as being evil?

Movement is necessary for HoT enemies, yes. However, it becomes difficult to effectively move out of the way of attacks (in my personal experience) because we can only dodge/roll twice before endurance refills, which is an extremely limiting feature. I can be running around an enemy and zig-zagging and somehow they will magically hit me; only doing double-tapping or V (whichever you prefer for dodge) keeps me immune. And this is me speaking about pure movement, not speaking about any skills or other things that can block or deflect attacks.

The fact that ANet even made threads here about the situation is apology enough, on top of the fact that they have also been telling us that, if you lost anything, you are encouraged to send a support ticket so that they know that you were affected and they can get to work on returning your lost items (though I think the “refund” is within reason, correct?).

I’m just saying that there is a way to get your stuff back, which ANet has alerted us to, and that shows that they really do want to help anyone negatively affected by this issue.

I was looking for a drinking, feasting, boasting type of option for honoring her as well. I ended up carving the 4 blocks of ice and laying a rose at the statue at which point I was done. I felt a bit bummed that I didn’t get to do anything beyond that.

Yeah, I honestly didn’t see any other options. The green stars were over the heads of some NPCs, but talking to them didn’t progress the task. Even us non-Norn want feasting and drinking and boasting! =P

New playable race - good or bad idea?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Moyayuki.3619

Moyayuki.3619

WELL, I am always open to speculation and wishful thinking…So here is my opinion.

You all are right about it being a very low possibility of a new race, what with the new voice acting, implementing new lore, creating their armor or even their cultural armor, there is just alottttttt of work into implementing a new race into an already and MASSIVE existing world. HOWEVER….If for whatever reason they did add a new race, I have always thought it would be amazing to play as Kodan….They look fierce but they can be very peacefull and they are very proud for talking polar bears lol Another thing is that their “base charactor model” already exists as npc’s so that would help knock down the level of work required to actually implement this new playable race. But can you imagine playing as one of those proud, but dangerous beasts??? Make a Guardian Kodan and just take on the world…That would be amazing.

Or what about a Kodan Ranger using a Juvenile Polar Bear?? XD

Hypothetically, I would wish that, if Kodan (and Tengu) were to be made playable, there would be at least enough sexual dimorphism between genders so that other players can tell the difference as you run around. As slight as the differences are with Asura and Charr, I can still tell which is which as long as they aren’t buried in armor. As it is now, however, Kodan look exactly the same, and I’ve never heard of a female Tengu in-game before.

Why are all events on a locked timer?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Moyayuki.3619

Moyayuki.3619

As a, pretty casual, player with playtime limited to specific times of day (30-60 minutes before work and an hour or so in the evening when kids are asleep and wife is watching some series I have quite often been sad to see the big events being on the same time every day.

Would it be possible to get the events on a rotating schedule instead so even though you log in on the same time each day you can still have a chance to participate in all events?

As an example of my situation, I’ve been able to play Tequatl once since launch when I got some extra playtime…

I can’t say anything in regards to the events, but world bosses such as Teq always run at exactly the same time every day. Teq usually is best to do during the Daily reset. You can find websites that show boss timers for specific servers.

main city loading half invisible

Moyayuki.3619

Over the last few days, every time I log in for the first time on a given day, the environment takes a long time to load, even when my graphics are set at their lowest setting possible. I will log in and see some distant background objects and every NPC and a handful of other players, but the ground and the rest of the environment will slowly, piece-by-piece, load in. I also experienced moments of lag/stutter/whatever you want to call it yesterday 8/11/16. I wonder if any of this is related to recent patches, because normally my laptop (sorry, can’t give specs as I am not at home, and I wouldn’t know where to look to find that kind of information) doesn’t do these types of things to that extreme.

The environment loading issues so far have only happened whenever I log in for the first time each day, not necessarily when I WP to a new zone.

EDIT: Another thing that, honestly, bothered me about the chapter/whatever you want to call it, is that your toon says that Eir died “in battle”, or something to that effect, which bothered me because I clearly remember her death and she did not go down fighting or doing anything honorable. She tried to escape the Vinetooth, then Faolain stabbed her and before she knew it, she was impaled by the Mordrem and died without a whimper. I understand if she was injured and starved, but it was the most pathetic way to kill off such an iconic character, and many things said during the memorial felt like lies to me… I know that’s harsh, but it is my opinion. =(

Charr and Asura female precursor armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Moyayuki.3619

I don’t see why people are having heart attacks over this.

But for my input, I really am tired of my female Asura and Char having armor that looks incredibly restrictive and “chaste”. Why can’t there be more variety for ALL armor of ALL genders? I get that Asura and Char don’t have much sexual dimorphism, but sometimes it’s really hard to tell the difference between genders when toons are just running around a map. Some male versions of armor are incredibly ugly, too. Why be so lacking in variety? And I am speaking for light, medium, and heavy armors.

Spring festival.. that sounds nice, even lord of the rings has tons of festivals like that, why cant gw2?

I do miss the festivals, though the last one that happened in GW2 was that Year of the Ram one, right? I didn’t even participate in it. Halloween is always my favorite because there is a bigger variety of things to do. Even carving pumpkins while you are already doing other things in other maps adds a bit of fun to it. I wonder what the next one will be, and when? Those always have something for every kind of player.

Losing interest in Living Story

in Living World

Posted by: Moyayuki.3619

Moyayuki.3619

Yeah I don’t/didn’t like how Season 3 jumped around a lot story wise but there are 2 main things I really hate about the Living Story.

1. How they go about with “end game” content. Meaning making all the enemies OP as hell. Don’t get me wrong end game content isn’t going to be easy but could they have made the White Mantle and more so the Jade Constructs any more powerful? I HATE the Lake Doric map do to how OP they made the White Mantle. Add in how fast the re-spawn time is makes it even worse.

2 The cryptic end boss fights in the story missions. I love a good challenge but also I like to have a hint how to go about the fight. Any hints you had to lure the Champion Unstable Abomination to the Larva and then kill the Larva in order to hurt him? No! Any hint you had to get the Champion Ice Beast to run into all the minions before you can actually start to damage him? Nope!

I definitely can attest to the fact that one main reason why it’s hard for me to enjoy the post-Personal Story content is due to how challenging the enemies are. Even after HoT got a bit nerfed, mobs and single enemies are still troublesome. Like you, I in no way expect post-80 content to be “easy”, but…the type of difficulty added to HoT and the LS is not very “user friendly”, so to speak. Not all play styles can succeed easily, or you need to group up, which becomes an issue for players such as myself who are casual, play only a few hours a week, and prefer solo content due to those factors. I just barely survived the bloodstone area (the LS chapter right after HoT, whatever it was called. Shows how much it made an impression on me).

Finding a balance between user-friendly and challenging is of course not an easy thing to do, so I wish I had suggestions…but I don’t. I don’t even think it’s an instance of “git gud”, since everyone plays differently in games with this much freedom of playstyle.

Why is everything so unfriendly to melee?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Moyayuki.3619

Moyayuki.3619

Ok so the answer to “content is pretty badly designed for melee characters” is “Use ranged, faceroll with a group or abuse terrain so they can’t reach you at all”.

You people crack me up. Do you not realize that such “advice” only proves my point? I can switch to my shortbow and solo every enemy given enough time, however, I shouldn’t HAVE to. Why have melee in the game at all if that’s the only way to do things?

Anyway, I got my answer so I’ll just play my Necromancer instead and pick my nose while playing.

So edgy. I melee with my chrono/scrapper/Daredevil/Reaper and as others have concluded, this is an l2p issue. What’s wrong with using terrain/los’ing an enemy? What’s wrong with learning how to defeat an enemy? Are you seriously suggesting those are design flaws? Since you didn’t find the answer you wanted and decided to take your toys and go home, might I suggest you find a nice quiet tree in Queensdale to beat on?

Just let him be, okay? No need to go “L2P” and tell him to beat on a “quiet tree in Queensdale”. Such toxicity. Yes, I get it, the OP was frustrated. But maybe, just MAYBE, it’s not as easy for them to do the same things you do, even if they’ve had experience in this and other games. Not everyone is the same. Being a jerk is nothing to be proud of, just because you find it easy and he doesn’t. Grow up. Not like it is hurting how YOU play, right?

Giving Up

Is “leveling alts” code for keyfarming?

For most of the complainers – yes.

I don’t think so, because I don’t do this “keyfarming” and I am upset. I don’t like unlocking weapon skills via leveling because it makes you wait a while to use everything, even IF people say levels 1-15 are faster to obtain now. I don’t like the idea of F-skills being level-locked, because I really don’t understand the logic behind it at all. Sure, Eles had their F-skills locked before the patch, but now I hear it’s worse. Some classes need their slot skills to be more effective in survival, more so than other classes, and level-gating these skill slots to higher levels doesn’t seem to do said classes any favors. When ANet bumped Skills and Talents up the first time, I already felt that any alt I made was just trudging through, trying to survive, for a long time, without the assistance of those skills and talents. Now we must wait even further. I do not see how this helps anyone, really.

When people make claims that everyone upset by this feature pack are just key-farmers, then that makes my opinion feel undervalued, as I do not key farm. Hell, I can’t count how many BL Chests I have that have never been opened, as I don’t go “farming” for keys…
