On Mounts & Housing.

I am one of the anti-mount people. Too many games have mounts and they cause problems for people who don’t like mounts, such as dragging aggroed mobs to them, etc.

If they add mounts, I want the all the mobs to have a skill like Ethereal Burden to slow the mounts to 50% of walking speed. I also want the mounts to be able to be killed and then you have to wait a certain time before your mount can be used again. This will make mounts not very useful, I know, but it will make mount users THINK before using, which they don’t in most games. Mounts are the most unimmersive part of any game.

I beg to differ.

Btw, welcome back balrog, that’s a famous name from Lotro!

I’ve watched this debate silently like forever and feel like it’s about time i say something.

I beg to differ Dusty Moon, because if implemented correctly, mounts can be awesome and add so much atmosphere to the game. Go and play Lotro and see how amazing a proper implementation of mounts can be. I cannot imagine that game without them, and collecting them is a huge business.

However, the reason i love Lotro’s mount system is coz it’s simple, they only have horses…..and goats which were added to travel through Moria as you cannot ride horses in Moria. I definitely wouldn’t like to see a whole menagerie of mounts, like in some other games and no, moas wouldn’t make good mounts, or flying ones etc. Horses on the other hand, or dolyaks, bring them on i say.

In Lotro, they’re also super awesome War Steeds used for mounted combat, but that’s another story. Another thing I like about Lotro’s system is the simplicity of use. Each mount has it’s on skill and works as a utility summon skill. The mounts server only to get u from A to B, they can be attacked and killed in which case you get dismounted and cannot re-summon until you’re out of combat.

This could work fine in gw2 with some exceptions. Because Lotro is a true open world, ie: you can ride your steed into town etc, but it still poses no problem, because Lotro has put their banks, Auction houses, crafting stations and other essential services within instanced buildings, into which ofc you cannot ride your mount.

Since gw2 has instanced towns, you would not be able to ride your mounts within cities, simple as that. But having said that, you shouldn’t get dismounted when going through portals between maps either, that would be just as annoying as the minis issue.

Another thing that is really nice in Lotro, they also have rent-a-horse stables in each city. These rented horses are much faster than your own and are immune to enemy attacks. You can rent a swift travel which costs more but instantly transports you to your destination, or you can rent a normal travel and enjoy the countryside as you travel across the map. The steed will automatically ride to your destination and dismount you when you arrive. How awesome is that? And really, what is wrong with that? I know we have wp’s but so what? people can have choices. If you don’t want mounts then don’t use them, you have alternative travel and everyone is happy.

That’s the crux of my feelings on the matter.

So Being 1-Shot is meant to be a Challenge?

I attempted to do the gauntlet, first with my ranger, who has over 21k hp then with my necro who has almost 27k but it didn’t matter, they both got 1-shotted almost as soon as they entered the arena. This is ridiculous!

To me, a challenge means having a reasonable chance in a fight, which can offer some fun, but being downed in 1 hit from that many HP is simply ludicrous. Through perseverance I managed to defeat 3 of them, but when same thing happened in the 4th round i simply gave up and won’t be back there again. Being 1-shotted all the time and dying over and over again, is not my idea of fun!

HoT has changed gw2 community

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Tiger Ashante.1792

Since launch, GW2 prided itself as having one of the best, if not the best community of any MMO and rightly so. Always friendly, helpful and more than willing to assist those in need, at least this has been my experience and i’ve always done the same. I’ve lost count how many times i’ve died trying to help others.

But HoT has changed all that. Right now in HoT, i see fewer and fewer ppl willing to stop and rez others, or answer a call for help to kill that rabid champ on steroids and its hordes for that HP or w/ever else and it’s getting worse by the day. Even 2 weeks after HoT released, i noticed a decline in those willing to help others, eventhough they all know, these HP’s can’t be soloed. I’ve been in situations where i’ve spent an hour or two asking for assistance with a HP while trying to do events, especially in TD and DS and not one person would reply or come to help, even though i know there’s lots of people in the map.

Despite many difficulties, including my ridiculously high ping, I’ve almost completed DS, just need 1 HP. This last HP i need is guarded by the Spider Queen and is only accessible during the 15 min timer after the successful DS meta and i’ve been trying to get it for days now. Most times when i log in there, the map is deserted. I’d ask in map chat if anyone was there, but no one replies. I’ve had to resort to LFG and on an odd occasion I’ve managed to get a taxi into a good map and got most of the stuff done, except this one HP.

Finally today, i managed to get to it and it’s the most crazy set up I’ve ever seen. It’s like this HP was created by some lunatic goofball frankly. Not only is it gated behind a successful meta and being timed, but it’s very hard to get the Lay Line updraft that starts off the ground and virtually no place to launch from and open ur kite. But once u do get up there, u r in a small area full of spiders, many of them vets and finally the Champ Queen.

I was there alone on my necro, so i summoned my minions thinking they would take attention off me while I commune, but the spiders completely ignored them and just kept on me. The HP is situated on this small rock pillar and whenever i tried to commune, they all rushed at me and each of their hits would interrupt my commune. So i tried to kite them away, but it was no good, they seem to be programmed to stick to the player and i couldn’t shake them off no matter what i did.

I knew the map was populated, we just finished the dragon event and i could still see a few commander badges around the map and while running for my life, i somehow managed to type in map chat asking for help. No one replied, so i repeated the message, pleading for help as i was running out of time, but no one responded. In the end, the spiders overwhelmed me and killed me and i saw this HP slipping away.

Eventually, a lone thief came (thank you whoever u are) and tried to rez me, but i could see he wasn’t going to make it, so i told him no to die as well. He apologized for not being able to help, there was just too many mobs. It was pointless anyway, even if he managed to rez me, 2 of us couldn’t deal with the 30-40 mobs running rampant around the HP, so he left me there. Then with barely 1 minute left, another thief came and actually got me rezzed (i was already partially rezzed by the first thief so it was faster and many thanks to you too) and that very instant, the map reset and i was killed off again and spat to the beginning of the map.

You know Anet? You’ve destroyed my enjoyment of this expansion, but I’m determined to get that last HP one way or another (to get some value for my money and to have at least one char with 100% maguma) and then i’ll never go back to those places again, let alone try map completion on my alts. It’s just not worth the frustration. And just so you know, exploration is my favorite thing in this game. Prior to HoT, I had 9 characters with 100% world completion and they all did it when WvW was part of it. I had every intention of doing the same in HoT but no thanks. I’ve had enough.

That spider queen HP is ridiculous in so many ways. One lone thief coming to help me in a map full of people? While needing 15-20 at least, is what makes this content utterly ridiculous. Not to mention, having that 15 min timer after dragon dies to get it done when u loose at least 5 minutes just getting to the boss chest. What made u think that weeks/moths after HoT release, one would be able to gather 15-20 willing ppl required to kill those mobs and get that HP? It’s barely 6 weeks in and you can’t get the help needed, let alone in months to come. So why should i really even bother bringing my alts through there? The meta events are just like any other for me, tons of blues and greens and an odd rare. All that stress for what? Where is the fun in this?

What I see has happened here, locusts who purchased HoT have already rushed through in the first couple of weeks after launch, got their map completions done with a zerg and all they care about now, its their lootz. Since everything in GW2 is on timers, people don’t want to waste theirs helping others so much anymore. And so, those of us like me, who took their time to actually try and explore the jungle and appreciate all your amazing artistry, well good luck to them in completing these maps.

It’s a real shame and I truly hope you will make map completion in HoT a viable thing not just for now, but future players as well.

I was guild leader and I'm now the lowest ranking member

This is a sad and serious matter, at least for me and all should have a read. It’s a bit long but it’ll only take a few minutes of your time and you may find the information of some value.
Unintentional error has caused me immeasurable upset and I’m having a hard time dealing with it. About a week ago, I was having a bad day, game crash after crash and in between, people sending me messages, keeping me distracted. Amid all of this, an officer in my guild, of which I am the founding leader, suggested I create some fun titles for the members. I’ve never tried this before, but thought why not and decided to give it a try.
Before I go on, I think I need to give you some background here so you understand what this means to me and why it has affected me so. I’ve played gw1 for number of years and eagerly awaited gw2 release. The moment it was available, I pre-purchased it and began playing on BWE1 and then the 3-day head start. I had all the char and guild names planned out and could hardly wait for it to go live. Due to my time zone, I had to stay up all night to be one of the first to log on and reserve the names I wanted. I was so excited when I finally registered my guild and it was accepted.
My original thought was to create a small guild for myself and a few friends, a place we could call home, but when the game went live, there were so many people I decided to invite a few. Before I knew it, I had 40+ members. Soon though, they began to drop off, or log in occasionally. Up to now, I have kept the numbers roughly the same, but some haven’t logged on for a long time. It’s hard to tell, since we don’t have the “last logged” information available. In the end, it’s been mostly me and my 8 alts that have earned the influence for the guild and through sheer hard work I’ve managed to get many upgrades for my small guild.
Now back to the topic. Considering the acronym of my guild is (GOD), the officer in question suggested I give myself a new title Godess and for him, a War Marshall. We’ve been playing WvW lately so it made sense he wanted that title. I laughed and said ok, sure why not, thinking we would all get a nice nickname added to our names. The moment I took on that Godess title, was the moment everything fell apart. Suddenly, all permissions in the guild went grey and I realized, I had lost access to my guild. My first thought was, with all the crashes I’ve been having, it must be a glitch. To add to my woes, the game crashes again just then and I’m like freaking out, as I still hadn’t figured out what went wrong.
When I logged back in, my worst fears were realized. It wasn’t a glitch at all. In fact, I was the lowest member in my guild! So in a matter of seconds, I went from being the Guild Leader, to the lowest ranking member! Now there’s a cruel joke for you if you ever heard one, right? So I’m staring at this guild panel, feeling kind of giddy, when my eye catches a glimpse of the Leader tag about half way down the list of members. Until I saw that, it still hadn’t sunk in I wasn’t the Leader any more. A member that has been inactive for a long time, now has the Guild Leader tag! Is this really possible? How did this happen? Why is he the leader? Who made him the leader? I had so many questions and no answers.
I was so confused and distressed by all this and still am. I didn’t know what to do and still don’t, but after discussing it with the officer who suggested this in the first place, I finally figured out what had happened. I created this title but didn’t give it any permission before accepting it. When I took on the title, it replaced my Guild Leader rank with it and removed me as the guild leader. It sounds dumb when I think back on it now, but I had no idea this thing would actually change my rank! I thought it would simply be an addition to it not a replacement and didn’t realize I had to give it permissions as well. I always believed if I ever did anything to affect such a serious change, it would come with a strong warning, but I was wrong. In a blink of an eye, I was stripped of my leadership and the system indiscriminately picked some random member (perhaps the oldest on the list) and appointed him the Guild Leader!
Why wasn’t there any warning? Like; are you SURE you want to do this? This title has no permissions and if you proceed, it will remove you as the Guild Leader! Is that too much to ask? Instead, no warning at all and the whole thing was executed by pushing 1 button! I mean, they can put a pop up window asking you to confirm some purchase from a vendor, but not for something as important as this? Surely this is a fundamental omission that should have been in the original guilds design? Or at least, taken seriously and fixed now that it has been brought to their attention.

Sadly I dislike HoT! (Spoilers)

I really looked forward to HoT, so much so i pre-ordered the $100 v as soon as it became available and couldn’t wait for the release. For the past month, i really, really tried to like it and refrain from expressing my frustrations, as i’ve seen too many complaints already and thinking if i give it time, i may get to like it more. But sadly, the more i play it the more i hate it. I don’t hate everything, but those parts that i do, outweigh the things i do like.

Things i do like:

- The jungle environment, atmosphere and music is fantastic

- The first 2 maps especially are great for most part

- The gliding is great when it works for me (sadly with average ping of 400 +, usually much higher, it often fails to open in time, if at all)

- The mushroom jumping is also great and it fails less than gliding. But on odd occasion, it sends me to my death

- The story in Verdant Brink is pretty good but after that…

- Love that our characters can talk as they do now, but it would be nice if they sometimes spoke nicely instead of always barking orders.

Things i don’t like:

- Although some story parts dealing with exalted is good, it is ruined by gimmicky mechanics, such as forcing you to use strange skills without warning and no guidance on how to use them, all the while, being chased by a 1 shot monster on your heels. Or doing some silly trials in a rabbit form, or having to fight 5 monsters in a row, where last one constantly spams KD’s with massive dmg, while throughout the fight, you’re being denied healing.

- The story pacing past Verdant Brink is terrible and only gets worse at the end. Some segments had 3-4 if not more parts and if u fail, or had to stop playing, it forces u to redo the whole thing.

- The cinematics were good but it bothered me that characters who scream or open their mouth during it, had this weird looking lips with white bits in the corner of their mouth, making them look strangely contorted and unfinished. Perfect example, the scene of Eir’s demise. Not sure if this is tech limitation, but it looked terrible to me and it spoiled a otherwise very dramatic scene. I’ve seen that effect on Cathie b4, for eg during impersonating her in LWS2 where her lips seem to be sticking when talking and her mouth had these white hollows, but had hoped that would be addressed in HoT. Sadly, it was not and that’s a shame, coz it made the whole thing look unpolished. Also both Eir’s and Faolin’s eyes during that cinematic looked really weird too.

- Navigating the jungle is horrible, especially Tangled Depths and Dragon Stand. I’ll have more to say on that.

- Just about every HP is difficult to get to and almost always guarded by a champion that seem to have millions of HP’s + many of them have adds that respawn very fast. Today in TD, I tried to get this very difficult HP and i spent almost an hour asking ppl to help me and no one responded even though there seem to be a few ppl in the map.
My fear is, if the situation is so bad now, what will happen several months down the road? I already feel sorry for any new players or people bringing alts through.

- Some of the vistas, POI’s and mastery points are extremely difficult to get to as well. There’s one mastery point in VB up in the canopy, inside a hull of a wrecked ship. As if it wasn’t enough that it’s very difficult to get to the wreckage in the first place, you’re then forced to do a hideous jumping puzzle, hopping across tiny beams all the way to the top. I got up there 2 times and only had couple of more jumps b4 i fell down each time and got stuck in the hull. I hate beams in a JP’s b/c they require extreme precision jumping and with my high ping rate i often miss them. I still haven’t got that mastery point and its the last thing i need in VB. But frankly, i can’t be bothered any more. The frustration i have experienced in HoT is totally unreasonable and beyond fun and i really don’t understand developers why they would want to frustrate their players to that extent who paid them good money for their game. And i know, I’m not the only one who feels this way either.

- The are too many mobs and too many of them OP throughout HoT. Many of the groups have veterans and elites, even champs among them, forcing u to constantly run for ur life. These mobs are not only HP sponges but many of them use shadow-stepping skills like the frogs and moderem snipers, making u constantly lose ur target, which is extremely annoying. Not only do they shadowstep, but they seem to be able to travel some distance during it and often end up in bushes where u can’t even see them or way off in a different locations then their origianal position. I’ve often been killed by them while fighting other mobs and i couldn’t even see where they were. I’ve lost count how many groups i’ve come across that had 3-4 snipers and at least 1 veteran among them, creating massive cris/cross AoE’s where often when u dodge, u dodge into another AoE. That’s if they don’t 1 shot u to begin with.

- It often happens where big group of mobs will insta spawn on top of you as you’re going along, killing you instantly b4 u can even react. This sometimes occurs in other parts of the game and i’ve always hated it, but in HoT, it’s inexcusable, b/c you don’t stand a chance against these mobs spawning in that way when ur traveling alone. I’ve never liked enemies suddenly appearing atop of you out of thin air, it just looks bad and i’ve only ever seen this happen in gw2.

- I love exploring, one of the main reasons why i pre-purchased Hot. But the last 2 maps, Tangled Depths and Dragon Stand, take the difficulty of navigation to another level of frustration. Not only are these maps almost impossible to get through without a big zerg, but it’s also reliant on successful map wide meta completion just to get around and to even get access to some of the things required for map competions, such as vistas, HP etc. I’ve yet to see a successful completion TD’s meta and only a couple in DS, which has made exploring these maps most unpleasant experience i’ve ever had in any game.

- Modrem Mouth boss event is awesome, but the mechanics of that map is shocking. As if what i’ve already said wasn’t bad enough, to have all the waypoints contested at all times, makes the navigation even more horrible. But wait, there’s more. Every 2 hours (if you’re lucky to get in there at the reset of the map) you’re unceremoniously killed off and sent right back to the beginning of the map. I’ve lost count how often it took me those 2 hours just to get to the bottom of the map and b4 i could get to that HP, or vista i’ve been trying to get for days, only to be killed off and sent back to the beginning. I’ve never seen anything so ludicrous in my life. I eventually got into a habit of just logging out prior to being killed off and when i return, i’m usually in an empty map, at which point i quit the game in frustration.

Why? Why do this? Well frankly i don’t care the reasons, none of them are good enough and tbh, i’m now regretting my HoT purchase, not to mention all the extra monies i’ve spent on gem store since then.

- The story ending was terrible in as much, i hated having to fight Eir and the other members of our group. That was simply terrible imo, not the least, the number of mobs in various segments leading up to it was ridiculous. My group was completely ignored by mobs and all the enemies constantly focused just on me, killing me often and forcing me to restart the whole thing. I’ve done the story once and i don’t for the life of me know why i even bother trying it again on my 2nd character. As it stands I ended up rage quitting (which i rarely do, but lately been doing that a lot in HoT) and i don’t think i care for any of it any more. I do value my sanity after all, but at the same time, i feel i did not get my money’s worth here.

And don’t even start me on guild halls, relating to small guilds and how i feel duped, where 3+ years of my hard work was wiped over night. Not to mention the amount of gold i put into upgrading my guild in good faith based on what u said leading up to HoT release….all for nothing. Thanks Anet, you’ve lost my business and much of my trust, no more cash for you moving forward, not until u restore our dignity. But guild halls is for another topic, i know much has already been said about it, don’t want to go into it here.

In conclusion, I wholeheartedly wanted to give a positive review on HoT and i’m bitterly disappointed that i cannot.

Perhaps if some drastic changes are made, i may feel differently, but in all honesty, the amount of headaches i’ve experienced….well nothing is worth that. Games should be fun to play, not be an exercise in frustration. It’s a big telling point how much gw2 has changed and not necessarily for the better, where after 3+ years, i still enjoy running around the core game, yet with HoT, barely 1 month in, i don’t even want to go there any more, despite its beauty.

Some suggestions:

- Create ‘safe roads’ through the maps, where u have mobs just out of aggro range off the road. if some 1 wants to fight them let them if not let them pass, except when events are on. But even then, events should never be held on roads anyway. I know we have lots of escort type events and i guess that cannot be changed, but at least when they’re not going on, we could have some more peaceful traveling through the world? We all know we have to kill things and do events to gain our masteries, but sometimes we just want to get from A to B and have a bit of a look around on an odd occasion. No need to shove endless mobs in our faces every step to of the way.

- Demote the champs guarding HP’s and Masteries, so a solo person can do it, i think this is a must. The zergs are gone, they got their stuff in the first week, now let us explorers be able to explore and appreciate what you have created, not curse u every step to the way.

- Make some stories where u don’t have to constantly fight the big group of mobs and a mandatory boss in the end. U did this in LWS2, why did u stop? It gets rather boring and tedious, having the same pattern occur in every little story instance. It starts with what sounds like a nice plot, oh but wait, we have to fight zillion mobs b4 we can continue. Boring! I fight enough mobs in PVE, way too many if u ask me, no need to have that in the story all the time as well.

- Create content taking into account that no everyone has the top notch internet and PC. Although i have a good PC, my ping rate is bad and I’ve always felt with jumping puzzles and such, especially the more recent ones, no consideration is given to people like me and trust me, there are many of us. In fact i’d go as far to say, we’re the majority. Allow some leeway. I realise this may make that type of content easier for people who do have good internet, but i think everything is easier for them anyway and i bet they’re in minority not us, so why only cater to them?

Well I’m sure i’ve missed some things, but this is getting way longer than i planned so I’ll end it here. I really do want to enjoy Hot but as it stands, i just can’t any more. At least the last 2 maps anyway. I hope this is taken as a constructive criticism as that is my intention, but i’m not always best at emphasizing those points and i hope it won’t be held against me.

If you’ve read this far, thank you for doing so and feel free to add your own comments if you like, anything but telling me this post is too long lol. I already know that.

You could make tons of money on skins if...

You used the current system of Zenith skins and added a skin slot on Hero panel like in gw1 where u put the skins over ur armor.

I know you want to make money via transmutations but to me that is a bad system for several reasons, each transmutation removes the existing look and people like me, who worked hard to get the looks they wanted are not prepared to overwrite them and therefore don’t spend any money on the new skins or trans crystals.

But no matter how good something looks, you feel like a change after a while and it would be totally awesome to be able to change ur looks at whim. You would sell a lot more skins from the shop and by all means put them all in there just like in gw1. i’ll be happy to give u money for such a system.

I’m not saying you should remove trans crystals all together, they still may have their uses, but should not be primary focus.

For eg: i would buy all 3 zodiac skins if the skin system worked as i stated above and there many others i would have bought….will buy if such a system was implemented. But as it stands, I won’t be buying any, as i don’t want to lose my current looks.

Imagine this. I have 9 characters, each have a look i like atm but i would like to change it often if it were possible, except i can’t without loosing the original look. I bought flamekissed armor, which i think is awesome on my ele, but i also like the new zodiac light, so if want to change to that, i would have to overwrite the flamekissed! No way? Or have many separate armor sets with different looks! Again, no way!

However, if the above system was in place, i would probably have 4-5 different looks for each of my 9 chars, think about it Anet, each set of 3 armor pces would give you 2400 gems just from me! As it stands, you get 0. Nor will you make any gems on crystals from me as i do not intend to overwrite my existing look. Hence, why i’m not even gonna bother crafting ascended which i don’t like the look of and would have to transmute….which i think is a shame and a waste.

So you already have a system in place for Zenith skins, all you would have to do is add that skin slot on Hero panel like in gw1 and i don’t think that would be too difficult to implement.

I love the new zodiac skins, really, really beautiful work, kudos to the designers but sadly, i won’t be enjoying them any time soon and that makes me sad.

Comments appreciated especially from Anet.

Farming in cursed shore/frost gorge atm.

Yep, severely, just about given up on making my Bifrost, not only because of bad drops but i cannot find anyone wanting to do Arah runs to get the necessary tokens. I mean i spent a whole evening playing in CS last night, trying to find a group and not 1 lfg for Arah in all that time, nor did i get any response to mine.
I’ve spent most of my playtime in Frostgorge over the past few months but only began seriously farming for t6 mats in the last month or 2. i get an odd pce here and there, some more than others, but 3 i get virtually none of is elaborate totems, armored scales and crystalline dust.
I hate grawls due to their insane respawn rate….which is probably good for farming but i’m sick of the mobbing. I mean i kill one, his body is still falling down and another pops up right under him. But this is true also for bears there as well, but not as bad as grawls. So i kill maybe 50-60 grawls and i’ll be lucky to get 1 or 2 totems, sometimes none. its very frustrating to say the least and very time consuming for no results.

I wonder what happened to fun in gw2 that i used to feel in gw1 where i never felt unrewarded for my efforts?

How many really care about personal story?

I care very much so. It’s one of the main reasons i play games….any game. If it doesn’t have a deep lore driven story, i find it empty and shallow and quickly tire of it.

GW2 has done a pretty good job with PS imo (and I’m one of those few who don’t have a problem with Trahearne), but to me, it’s not enough. As I see it, PS is more like a set of side quests and there should have been a much larger picture type story that all players get to experience and could play together or alone.

In absence of such an epic story line, even if there was some kind of introduction to the game via a longish cinematic that ties a bit for gw1 history to gw2 and gives you an overview of the world of Tyria would have been better than what he have now, where we simply get thrown blindly into the world of Tyria. There’s even a perfect little example of Tyrian lore and history on wiki, so why not include that in the game?

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tyria_%28world%29

Many wonderful intros could have been drawn form that little overview alone. Even with the current set up, a cinematic narrative that introduces you to the game and tells u a bit of history and what we’re fighting for, who our nemesis is etc, would have made a world of difference in immersing one into the game right from the start, especially for players new to Guild Wars.

I still remember my time in Beta. I got a character to lvl 20 and did the PS up to that lvl. All along, i was waiting for something big to happen, but it never did. Going form my gw1 experience, I remember thinking, surely this PS isn’t all there is! There must be more to it! And if so why aren’t they giving us a taste. Then i concluded they must be saving it as a surprise when they launch, so you can imagine my disappointment when there was no surprise.

I still can’t believe that Anet is content giving us just the PS when there’s so much more they could tell us and despite the weird direction the game has taken, I still keep hoping something more solid will come along in not too distant future.

Rytlock is a softie!

HoT Failures: Guilds

Artists once again, did an amazing job. The Guild Halls are beautiful. But the system to upgrade them is a mindless, grinding borefest. Totally unimaginative, unrewarding numbers game. The sheer volume of materials required is staggering and most of the upgrades are totally useless.

To add insult to injury, they allowed guild members that own core game, but not HoT, to visit the guild hall and to contribute toward it’s upgrades, yet the measly few buffs u get from these upgrades have been denied to them unless they buy the expansion. I never thought Anet would sink so low, but sadly they have with this system. And frankly, i don’t think it should be your decision which of my members get the guild buffs and which don’t. This is a blatant blackmail on your part.

This system is beyond awful for small guilds, who were not considered here at all. I have a small guild and i’m expected to fork out as much as a 500 member guild. 100g to claim the guild same as they pay, same amount of materials, endless grind for elder wood/mithril/ectos/flax and the list goes on and on. Who thought putting in 1000 elder wood planks and 1000 mithril ingots + 200 ectos, just to list a few required for just 1 upgrade, is a fun task? Even if your guildies did contribute, which mine don’t, as most of them are fairly new players and are still lving their chars etc, it’s still a mindless boring task to have to do as a guild.

And then u got to look at another upgrade and it’s a repeat of the above. I guess designing fun content in gw2 is long gone. Now they just throw 1000’s of material numbers at you. Its easy to do. Just draw a number from a hat and add lots of 0’s at the end. No wonder ppl are leaving this game for better pastures. I can’t blame them really. They’ve turned us into mindless drones and ruined all the fun and expectations of these amazing guild halls and the game as whole.

It would have been much more fun to have some guild quests that guild members could do together to unlock certain aspects of the guild hall and upgrade it that way. Some material contributions would have been fine too, but not solely and that’s it. By the same token, due to a huge demand for these materials, the prices have gone through the roof, making it very hard to get guild members to part with these materials, especially if they’re lving their crafting, or trying to make a bit of money. And is it really fair to ask ppl to part with their hard earned gold and materials, when those guild upgrades offer them very little benefit?

I mean just to restore the workshop, they want you to throw in 50 Elonian leathers! among ofc many other materials on the list including yet another 200 ectos, tons of ori ingots and the list goes on and on. 50 Elonian leathers =900g alone! So they want u to use materials that directly compete with crafting ascended gear and ofc are daily gated. Yet, no use for silver or gold, my bank is full of it but only one very early upgrade required just 20 gold ingots. No, Anet has an expensive taste and has only gone for the most valuable stuff here. GG. Anet but i think if it hasn’t already, it will backfire at you in a long run unless u make some serious changes to this system. I havn’t even touched the scribing, so far not bothered with it, got enough gold/mats sinks to last me the lifetime of this game, but we’ll see how they “fix” it.

I feel so spoiled! Thank you guys!

GW2 has been officially released in China merely 2 weeks ago and it has already hit #5 on their top 10 list, toppling some of the giants along the way.

Now I know some trolls and sourpusses will come along and try to negate this with various rhetoric “it’s a new game”, it’s the honeymoon" etc. etc. etc.

But no matter what you say, the fact that Anet went to China with a very risky business model never before seen over there, makes it a great achievement indeed.

So once again, congratulation Anet and all the best in your future endeavors.

Cheers!

People actually had problems with this boss?
People are actually wanting them to nerf difficulty?
Things in this game are easy enough. I’d rather they stop with the mindless nerfing just to appeal to people that refuse to learn basic mechanics.
To add to the dungeon discussion, every dungeon in the game is easy. When every single dungeon can be beat by the same strategy (stack on boss, kill boss), then dungeons, even arah, should not be considered difficult by anyone.

i agree in 100% , guild wars 2 in few words : 111111 hitting same mob with different name 11111111 boss fight 1111111 world event 111111+runing to the corner 11111111

rly maybe when I was growing up games were more difficult or people just didn`t run to forum after every death writing pls nerf it ,it killed me(eyes full of tears) or i just like games like dark souls ,ninja gaiden 2, older final fantasy even resident evil 2 had higher lvl.

Um, so what are u doing here again?
Coz frankly if the game is so bad for you, so easy and not challenging at all, those games u mentioned are still out there and i’m curious why u are here and not playing them?

I’ve seen people like you in the past coming on these forums, putting gw2 down by whining how easy it is and presents no challenging content for these self-proclaimed hot shots, while in most cases, they don’t even play the game any more. They use semantics and catch phrases like “1111” to demean others and make them feel inadequate and to demean the game itself.

So to appease them, Anet adds events like the great wurm and tequatil, which btw used be enjoyed by a huge number of people, including lower than lvl 80 players, to now where it’s only being done by a select few. Meanwhile, these so called hot shots are nowhere to be seen, They still end up leaving the game anyway, or weren’t playing it to begin with and the gw2’s community has to deal with the consenquences.

Imo, not all content should be hard in a game, particularly an MMO, where u have to cater to masses of varying tastes, ages and abilities. You saying, when i was growing up games were more difficult, reminds me of my grandma, who always made a point to remind me of how things were much harder in her youth. Maybe the reason people didn’t come to complain on the forum in them days, was the very limitation of internet at the time or simply that online games weren’t as popular as they are now. It’s pointless trying to go back to the past, it’s a different world now. Now every man and his dog has a PC and internet connected. Some years ago, i could count on my hand how many had it in my town.

Today, with hectic lifestyles and limited amount of leisure time, some people play games to relax and have fun. Maybe your kind of fun is dying 1000 times and for you that means a good challenge, but it’s not to everyone’s taste and certainly not mine. It’s nice sometimes to just have a “walk in the park” in a game, rather then be stressed out all time with every little bit of content that you come across. I’m not saying that’s what gw2 is, but if Anet listens to these so called hot shots, this game would become unplayable for most people especially newcomers. They would start playing, die a lot, then leave the game and post on internet how gw2 sucks.

I do believe there should be content for players like you as well and you do have some, like fractals, dungeons and those i mentioned above. I’m cretanly not aversed to Anet adding more instanced challenges for people who want that. but open world should be relatively easy for leveling, except perhaps the world events.

But like some others have said in this thread, story should never be presented like that. It should always be enjoyable and about the story itself, with perhaps mild challenges. It should never be about neither skills or kills and certainly not designed for pure frustration just for the sake of it. Because no matter how good the story may be, when u get that frustrated, the story is lost and all it becomes in ur mind is, ugh let me just get through it so i never have to do it again and that is a real shame, especially if the story is good.

Yea i don’t like it either OP. I thought i would, was even looking forward to some arena fighting tbh, but after seeing the senseless over the top mobs and mechanics, i’ve changed my mind about it.

I mean i went to the ceremony thing with the Queen, spent a few minutes there and after a few sentences what happens? An attack! how predictable! And that was it, the rest is more or less another farming zerg. So i thought i’d check the 1v1 arena thing and guess, 1-shot kills everywhere. Even liked the idea of balloon rides, but like u said, what? u get on this think and ur back DR! wasted a wp cost to get to the map just to be returned unceremoniously back to DR.

Ah well maybe one of these days we’ll actually get some expansion to this game, that wold be nice for a change.

So Being 1-Shot is meant to be a Challenge?

That’s what make the fight interesting. If you could just face tank autoattack, what’s the point.

Would you please stop accusing people of only auto attacking! I’m sick of hearing this whenever someone is trying to express that a certain mechanic is stupid. People like you come on here and claim it’s challenging instead, as away to imply you’re the most brilliant player above all others and no challenge is too great for you. Well good for you but stop belittling other players!

I don’t just use auto attack. i use all my skill…always…on all my classes thank you, as i’m sure most other people do as well.

I was guild leader and I'm now the lowest ranking member

(continued)

Why this upsets me even more, is that I’ve been a loyal fan of Anet and its games for many years now. I’ve even convinced several friends who had no interest in gw2, to buy the game and join me. Now, like me, they’re upset with what has happened and being left without a leader and since no one else has high enough permissions, the guild has come to a stand still. This couldn’t have come at the worst time with Guild Missions being released and we can’t do anything as a guild until this is fixed. When and if that will happen, is anyone’s guess.
Anet support refuses to (I say refuses because I believe they can but won’t) help me resolve this matter. All I’ve got is polite, negative responses to all my pleas. It’s very disheartening. I’ve been with them from the start and have put up with many things that bug me in the game, but always tried to be positive and give them benefit of the doubt they will make things right. After this and the lack of support I’ve recieved in this matter, I’m not so sure anymore. I have no means of contacting this new guild leader myself, yet they won’t contact him on my behalf, while saying at the same time, he is the only one that can help me now! If this isn’t a catch 22, I don’t know what is. Let me ask this, who made him the guild leader? Not me! The system appointed him, so please fix it and give me my guild back I worked so hard to build over the past 6 months! If you can remove my leadership from my own guild without warning me, you can also give it back! I even send a PM to a dev and so far no response. I’m losing paitence and have decided to post this come what may.
One could argue what happened is my own fault and sure I’ll take that flak, but the punishment does not fit the crime here and something like this should have never been possible to occur in the first place. The Leader of a guild (especially the founding leader) should never, ever be removed by anything or anyone without a safety net and stern warning! Had I been aware of the danger, I wouldn’t be stuck now with a leaderless guild and be forced to wait and watch it fall apart with my hands tied, in hope this person comes back and restores my guild back to me! And what if he never comes back? How long am I supposed to wait? And what if he comes back and doesn’t want to give it back? This really is a joke, but there’s nothing funny about it.
The moral of this story is, learn from my mistake and don’t fiddle with any buttons in this game as they’re totally unforgiving. Consider carefully if it’s worth your time building a Guild in this game, when it can be so easily taken away form you! I suspect this thread will probably be locked, deleted, or go unnoticed. I hope not, I don’t know where else to turn to and I’m only expressing what happened and to warn others. I only wish I had such a warning before this happened to me. Most of all, I hope someone in the company has a change of heart and decides to address and resolve this issue before my guild dies completely and they forever lose me as a fan.
Thanks for reading this far and please, feel free to discuss. Just take it easy on me, I’m feeling distressed enough as it is.

TL;DR I was guild leader of my own guild and on suggestion by one of my officers, I went to create some fun titles for our members. I wasn’t aware doing this would remove me as the guild leader and demote me to the lowest member in my guild. There was no warning of any kind that this wold happen and my guild is now leaderless. The system defaulted leadership to an inactive member, who hasn’t logged in for at least 2 months and I have no means of contacting him.
Support can’t/won’t help me resolve this matter.

I’m a vet player, been there since the start and shoot! I’m enjoying this Halloween! The atmosphere is surprisingly awesome in LA, Mad King looks great as usual and is as funny as hell.

I especially appreciate the increased festive drops this year and the lower costs for minis etc. I never got the chance to get those last year and have been working diligently toward getting just Mad Prince, thinking at the rate i was going, it will take me at least 5 years lol. But now it’s possible to not only get Mad Prince but some of the other goodies as well.

So HUGE thank you from me Anet, really appreciate it. I know I’m only one little voice drowning in a sea of complaints, but I hope the message gets through.

Sure, we could have had more things added, as always and some things like gem buying could have included more options etc, but I’m leaving that for devs to fix and just enjoy the festivities laid out for us.

So happy Halloween all and don’t take things too seriously. After all it’s just a game and a festival to boot, not the end of the world. Go out and have some fun!.

There’s a underwater area in Frostgorge Sound that surrounds Honor of the Waves Ship that has a lot of jellyfish vets. When a daily has a vet achievement, i’ve often try to kill them and 99% of them time, when their hp is down to 1/3, they suddenly go invulnerable, start swimming away from me for a bit, fully heal then come back at me again. Meanwhile, I’m still locked in combat and cannot heal, while he gains full health. I can’t be bothered with them any more, but this is typical of u/water combat.

It happens on land as well but not as frequently. However, I must say these jellyfish are probably the worst i’ve encountered.

the game needs to have pve content like this. the rewards should be better, and it should probably be an instanced event…….but this type of event is needed (more difficult/coordinated large-scale events) even if only a small fraction of players will want to play it.

there are tons of content options that are quick and efficiently rewarding (most world bosses, champ trains, and some dungeon paths).

Does it really? are you sure? coz i’m on one of the busy servers i’ve still not done Teq, why? every time i’ve gone to sparkfly the place is deserted.

The first couple of weeks, i couldn’t get on my own server, overflow, after overflow. Since then i’ve gone there many times in hope of getting him done but most times i’m there alone.

I’ve lvled 9 chars to 80 with 100% map completion on all of them. Every time i went thru Sparkfly b4 Teq2, the map was always full of ppl doing all the events around the map, waiting for Teq to appear etc.

Now, no one does anything, no one goes there, at least not when i’ve been there and i’ve tried to go there at different times.

I’ve heard however, that this event has become exclusive to certain groups/guilds that taxi ppl to their own private overflows and that’s how it gets done.

So i guess this boss is reserved for elite groups and rest of us miss out. Like the OP, i feel saddened when i go there and see Teq in the cage. I often ask in map chat if anyone is there when he pops up and never get any response. So as usual, I go about and gather my wood/ore and leave with a feeling that yet another map has gone down the drain.

Yes, the gloves are once per account for the story reward. You have to either buy the other two or get lucky and get one out of the Greater Nightmare Chest.

Ok ty, that’s kinda disappointing. Why change it? Sometimes i don’t know whether i’m coming or going in gw2 anymore.

New players are being encouraged to rush

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tiger Ashante.1792

Personally, i was shocked Anet gave new players lvl 80 boost and allowed them to use it right away. What they should have done is give one to them, but not allow them to use it until they lvled up at least one character the normal way to max lvl. Once they’ve done that, they unlock their lvl 80 boost to use on an alt.

Giving them the boost to use right away, is a terrible decision as most are not able to resist it. It encourages them to skip all the core game content and so you have these max lvl players who have no idea how to play their class. And even if they go back and do the core content from start, it simply won’t feel the same and often time get bored very quickly and leave the game.

Really, really bad decision imo.

So Being 1-Shot is meant to be a Challenge?

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: Tiger Ashante.1792

Tiger Ashante.1792

So did you get one shot by the first boss? because if so then yes that is intentional. If you could stand in one place kitten ing on the bosses that wouldn’t be any sort of challenge, the one shot mechanics or mechanics in general are there to test your skill at moving while still being able to do the dmg and survive.

Looking up a guide beforehand helps tremendously if you’re not the very first person going in and testing the mechincs to write a guide.

I was not standing still, i wasn’t even near the bosses, but they still 1 shoot you. The point is, this should not be in any frigging game. 1 shot mechanic is lame imo. I’m a staff necro and every skill is a mark you have to place on the ground and basically stand still to place them, but i guess like some have said in other threads, im supposed to start changing build and my gear just for this fight? no thank you. i shouldn’t have to. this was supposed to be fun and i was actually looking forward this update, but ah well forget it.

and then 1 month later China realize there is no end game in gw2…

Oh dear, that again. I feel sorry for you people, really i do. gw2 has barely began to expand its horizons and you keep harping about some imaginary end game. omg what’s happened to gamers these days, so brainwashed by these insidious games they cannot see the forest for the trees.

are you 1 of those casuals who plays 1 or 2 hours a day who doesn’t see the big pic? GW2 has lost a lot of players since LS1 out and that is a fact. Most of the big guilds since pre released have like 10 members at best now. Every MMOs need some kind of game to have its keep the players strive for. GW2 isn’t a bad game but it need something for players to keep playing.

Like what? raids? gear treadmill? For a start if gw2 is losing players, that really doesn’t concern you as player, that’s the company’s problem. You as a player only have to worry about having fun in the game. That doesn’t mean i don’t care about the game, i support it whenever i can and that’s what we all should do if we want to get that new content, not just complain about it.

But no matter what’s laid out before you, the company can’t make u have fun. You have to find your own fun. They can give you the tools, the environments and places to go, but ultimately it’s up to you to enjoy the world they’ve created for you.

If you only ever played games that held you hand, told you what to do every step of the way and don’t u dare sway form that arrow pointing u ahead you may not find gw2 satisfying, because in gw2, you have to make your own goals. The tools are there, the content is there, you just got to decided what you want to do form the plethora of choices on the table.

And fyi, I’ve been playing gw2 since BWE1 and every day since head start. My daily play varies, but suffice to say i’ve played well over 5k hours and i have hardly touched the dungeons, have played a bit of WvW, but i’ve not set foot in PvP as yet. I have x9 lvl 80 all with 100% map completions, i got all my crafts to 500 and i have crafted a legendary weapon, The Birfrost. Ive never farmed and i’ve earned my legendary weapon, simply through playing the game. Sure it took me a long time but that was ok by me, it was a long term plan of mine anyway. I’ve not gambled on Mystic Forge to get it either. Granted it would have been more epic if the precursor dropped for me but i’m not that lucky so i bought mine and despite all of that i’m not exactly poor.

Granted, i too am dying for some new maps etc and they will come, but seriously, i think gw2 has more replayable content than many other games out there of the same age and some even older ones.

How can i think that? Well for a start in a typical MMO, you go through maps in order of lvls and as u lvl up all the areas behind you become obsolete, u never go there, even if you missed some places. So you rush to so called end game and what’s waiting for you there? 1 or 2 dungeons and gear grind where u get to run those dungeons over and over and over ad nauseum.

Meanwhile in gw2, I log in i do what i want, i go where i please, i do events in whatever gorgeous map i want and complete my dailies/monthlies along the way, do a bit of crafting, a bit of gathering, a bit of chest hunting, do a few world bosses sometimes i do some jumping puzzles and before i know it, several hours have gone by. Well that to me is much more fun than being stuck in some dark, boring dungeon day in and day out, rarely seeing daylight, but that’s just me.

If people’s complaints are being heard, Anet needs to say so…not just once in a while. They need to keep saying so. Otherwise, people will simply feel disenfranchised.

What to do about the Watchwork Mining Pick

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tiger Ashante.1792

I guess they prefer to pretend the problem doesn’t exist. Maybe if they ignore it long enough, it will go away?

But yeah, making the watchwork pick be superior to other infinite mining tools was an extremely bad decision.

Do you want cool animation or do you want the chance of sprockets. Everyone has the same decision to make.

Not true. I bought my molten picks (more than one) before watchwork one was created. I did it, because i believed Anet’s assurances that there will never be a better one that will make molten obsolete.
Those assurances turned out to be a lie.

Totally agree with you Astralporing. I invested a lot of real life money when Molten gathering tools first came out with the reassurance from Anet they’d be the best tools now and forever. Call me crazy if u want, but i enjoy the convenience and i bought 9 full sets, 1 for each of my characters. You’d have to agree that’s a lot of doe. But now i’m stuck with 9 inferior sets. Imagine if i had waited and bought 9 watchwork picks? I would be one rich player by now.

So yea, i second the disappointment and betrayal i feel. With Revenant coming up, I would have bought another set, but as is, I will never buy another, ever! I don’t care how inconvenient it is. Not unless they bring all other tools sets to par with watchwork.

I basically cannot play this new area. I lag so bad, i sometimes stand there for 1-2 min after casting a skill. Trying to use aspect jumps is virtually impossible especially with them now being timed jumps.

I’ve been having a strange issue for at least couple of weeks now in gw2, where i’m unable to interact with objects/nodes/npc’s etc. i’ll click on a node for eg: and nothing happens, sometimes i click half a dozen times and still nothing. Sometimes if i walk away and return to the node, it works, but not always.

This is not due to a typical lag, it seems to be a separate issue, but some type of lag. I have my mini out and it often don’t lag, but i still can’t interact with objects.

In Dry Top, i have both the usual lag and this other one where i can’t interact with objects. it’s been nothing but frustration one after another and i really haven’t been able to enjoy the content.

Even in the instanced story parts, i’m having to click on npc’s twice to activate them. I don’t believe this is on my end since i play other games and only have this problem in gw2.

Devs please, would it be possible to at least remove the timer thing from aspects? I’m basically having a 1-2 seconds delay after hitting the skill b4 the jump occurs and sometimes even longer, making it impossible to do any of the jumping parts. I’ve lost count the amount of times i’ve died standing on one of the high areas then lag would hit and a while later, finding myself down below, totally disoriented and not knowing how i got there.

Thanks for reading, any help would be appreciated.

GW2 is No Longer a Refuge :(

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Tiger Ashante.1792

Tiger Ashante.1792

I am a huge GW2 fan – I’ve brought many people to the game and have been playing since beta, but the reasons I’ve had to come back to this game between every other MMO are pretty much gone.

I’ve played every major MMO from it’s launch through it’s content at launch. Some games (SWTOR, for instance) I get done with all available content before they’ve even finished the intended starting content, so I leave… and I don’t come back. Ever. Other games take a while longer (like WoW expansions, which I stopped buying after Cataclysm or Rift), but when I left, I left. It was done. Finished. Over. GW2 has been my mainstay since it’s launch and, sadly, it won’t be for much longer due to the fact that I can no longer experience all it’s content without being in a guild. A big guild, at that.

The primary reason I kept coming back to GW2 was that I could see all of it’s content without having to deal with people (I’m always a guild/raid leader in other games and that just wears me down) and still be as relevant as I was when I started a break – sometimes a couple of weeks, sometimes a couple of months; I knew the same great game would be waiting for me when I came back. And I put a lot of hard-earned cash into this game because I loved it so much and it earned it.

That has changed and this is why:
https://goo.gl/ZXBiva
I made a little spreadsheet of the required materials just for Resotration 1-affiliated builds in the Guild Hall. This isn’t nearly a quarter of the materials needed to get to the actual content like Weaponsmith 2’s, which require completion of nearly all builds in restoration 2 and a guild level of 40.

So, basically, not only can my small guild not even claim it’s own Guild Hall with it’s 2 or 3 people (family – pretty much the only people I can stand any more), but we have to get to guild level 40 and get an insane amount of materials – like completely impossible within the expected lifetime of this game (my kids will be through college before I was able to grind out all materials)- in order to fully experience the game.

I’m done.
I’ll play until I leave (again) for another game, but this time, I’ll have a WHOLE LOT LESS reason to come back. Right now, the MMO field is pretty sparse and dry, so I’m good for a while…. But I’m extremely disappointed that my refuge game is now just another game in a pile of grindy games that require I pretend to like other people. I just won’t do it. Unlike some people, I’m not a pretender… I really am incapable of feigning interest any more.

I agree with much of your sentiment, i too feel deceived and betrayed. I busted my gut for 3+ years, virtually on my own to get my guild where it is and all my efforts were wiped overnight.

Prior to HoT launch, I attentively listened to all the live announcements and guild chats from PAX and Twitchcom, read all the blogs i could find and not once, did they ever indicate how small guilds would get shafted. In fact i remember Colin J specifically stating in a live stream that small guilds would not be excluded. Well look where we’re at now, in nowhere land. This is worse than if they raised the lvl cap and we had to grind for another tier of gear like all other MMO’s. B/c at least with that, you can go and play the game and earn that gear over time.

What really annoyed me, is when i learned after HoT launched, we now have to earn 150 favor even b4 we can claim the GH in addition to 100g fee, same as large guilds do. Seriously? They could have at least told us prior, i could have bought some influence to convert to favor. There was no info on the conversion rate to my knowledge, but had i known in advance, i could have used the 200g + i spent on upgrading my guild in the last few weeks leading to Hot release ( that was completely made worthless) into influence and keep it to convert into favor. But since i spent it all on upgrading the guild as they kept saying we should do that b4 HoT as influence is going away, i could have kept that influence and converted it and had enough to at least claim the GH. Do u know how long it would take me to get 150 favor via missions now that only pays 3 per mission? a year if not more when u factor in that u can’t even get a suitable mission for 3-5 ppl every week.

So yea i do feel betrayed, who wouldn’t? I feel they kept us in the dark and fed us on BS so they wouldn’t lose sales and I will never trust anything they say ever again. It’s their loss though, i was a big spender in the gem store and i trusted them, but even if they changed it now, it’s too late as far as i’m concerned, they’ve lost my confidence and my business and it would take much more than that to make me trust them again.

Sorry if i sound bitter, it’s coz i am actually. I worked so hard to get my guild to where it was and it was all for nothing and i’ve lost quite a few members when they realized what the situation was and others haven’t even bothered logging in for ages, event thought they bought the expac. It’s a sad state of affairs for small guilds and my feeling for gw2 may never be the same again.

Tyrians Can't Jump!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tiger Ashante.1792

To be fair, Tyrians only learned to jump sometime within the last 250 years.

I always thought it odd for a game that promotes jumping so heavily, there are many, many places where a tiny bump is insurmountable. I’ve ofc come across this millions of times in the course of the last 3 or so years and always shook my head in frustration and confusion as to why this is so. But just b4 i posted this thread, i had one of those “oh for goodness sake” moments as my char tried to jump this foot or so high rock. It was ridiculous and until i used a speed buff it was impossible to do. It really saddened me tbh as this was not some invisible wall, there was an ore atop this rock and u can obviously get on it, but the jumps off the ground given to our characters are so low that it was impossible to do it in a normal way.

I wish we had an agility attribute we could lvl up to naturally and permanently gain higher jumping abilities and be able to climb up mountains and such. But i dare say that won’t happen any time soon if ever, if we can’t even jump atop a little boulder without having to use a speed buff.

But who knows, with the mastery system in place anything is possible, hint, hint, nudge, nudge Anet.

2 accounts 2 different loot experiences

Tiger Ashante.1792

I have a similar experience as the OP.
In January this year I bought a 2nd account and it definitely seems luckier than my main.

On my main, I’ve been playing since head start, almost 7k hours, 17k ap. Never got anything worth mentioning. The most valuable thing i got on this account was an ascended weapon chest from a JP chest maybe a year ago and one of them Karka bows maybe 2 years ago that was worth about 40g at the time.

I’ve done a little of every content, but mostly PVE stuff. Done Teq numerous times, best thing i ever got from it was an exotic spoon…well 2 spoons. I lost count on how many times I’ve done Jormag and other world bosses, never so much as an exotic form them, not to mention, i’ve never seen a precursor.
Since SW and introduction of VW event, I’ve done it maybe 20 times, trying to get 2 coasts. No luck. I only got the one that was guaranteed when u first do the event.

My 2nd account, first time i did tripple trouble, gets an ascended armor chest. First time i did VW i get 2 coasts and on my 2nd run at VW i get the 3rd coat. I won’t even bother mentioning other stuff.

You can draw whatever conclusions u want from this, but the truth is, I’ve given up a long time ago getting anything worthwhile on my main account. I basically log in these days do my dailies if i feel like doing them and that’s about it. I’m tired of the same ol same ol generic greens and blues i get loaded with whenever i do anything in the game, like ruining W bosses or w/ever. My hands hurt form all the salvaging, it’s boring and tiresome.

Suggestion: Make Multi-Guild Optional

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tiger Ashante.1792

  • What if, Guild leaders have the ability to tick a box allowing or disallowing members to multi Guild?

I have been a guild leader since head start and I have only 1 rule in my guild : 100% guild rep. I’ve tried having it free for all, partial rep and so on, and it just doesn’t work if you want to have even a mildly cohesive guild. I don’t have a big guild (by choice) and I’m lucky to have a bunch of loyal members that get on, but it took a lot of work and frustration to get it there. It’s still a constant struggle to keep it that way and I’ve cursed Anet many times over the unnecessary difficulties they’ve presented us with.

I’ve always hated the way the guild representation works in gw2’s multi guild system. It is really bad in my view and creates a lot of needless animosity as well as work for the guild leaders. I hate the fact members who are in my guild but not representing my guild, are still showing in the guild roster, but with that awful grayish/green oval icon that indicates non-representation that I and all my members can see.

They just dumped this half-baked, unintuitive, multi-guild system on us and shook their hands off it and left us, the guild leaders, to have to deal with the consequences on a daily basis. The representation system creates conflict and mistrust among both sides and it all could have been easily avoided. To be frank, I’m tired of having to explain this convoluted, loyalty system to new players that want to join my guild and you can see, they just can’t grasp the concept. It’s so alien to them and I don’t blame them.

What your are suggesting in your OP would be to too much work to implement imo.

A much simpler solution, I suggested years ago btw, but ofc anything to do with guilds falls on deaf ears around here, would be (as you may have guessed) to completely remove the representation system.

With the rep system out of the way, people can be in multiple guilds if they like, but can only be in one at any given time and only be seen in that guild they’re in for the day or w/ever. Any activities they do whilst in that guild, such as guild missions, would benefit only that guild, thus eliminating any conflict etc.

When they log in each day, they have their list of guilds and can choose which guild they wish to spend their day or however long with. What this would mean is, if a member is in a different guild to mine, I don’t see them on my guild roster, nor do they see my guild or have access to anything in my guild.

This would imo save us guild leaders a lot of management problems, animosity toward members not repping the guild and it would save members a lot of discomfort too, while having freedom of choice which guild they wish to be in without being forced into anything.

After all these years, my opinion on this matter has not changed and I’ll keep trying to push for this change as long as I’m still around.

When your health gets low, this big white arrow appears above your heal skill, prompting you to heal yourself. Only lately, the arrow stays even after your health is full, or even after you use the heal skill. I can’t get rid of it other than exit the game.

The problem is, i can’t exit the game normally by using ESC key that brings up the main menu. Every time i hit ESC key, it makes the arrow shoot in the air and won’t allow me to access the main menu.

What Happened to Hardened Leather?

Since Hot launched i’ve barely gotten any of this leather from any source. How am i supposed to upgrade guild hall that requires tons of the hard leather squares, while also trying to make Kudzu that requires a stack of it?

To give u one tiny example, today i ran SW full cycle meta and got tons of loot bags, salvage gear etc, and guess how many hard leather i got out of it all? 1 A single pce of leather!

Seriously, this is ridiculous, no wonder hard leather squares cost 35s ea or more. There’s none to be found, at least not for me.

Please Anet fix this we need that leather more than ever.
Thank you.

Poll to remove Daily Achivement Cap?

Tiger Ashante.1792

OP, I feel you. I’ve been dedicated to this game since the release, I’ve spent tons of money on it and one thing I always wanted (once I discovered the Hellfire armor set was earned through daily achievements) was to get that armor. I just recently hit the daily cap and my heart sunk. I was already playing less and less of this game, but now another incentive has been removed for me to log in.

TBH, I’m fed up of us veterans being penalised for sticking around and supporting the game. I know lot of people think that we Vets don’t spend money on the game, but I do, I regularly buy gems to support the development of this game and I’m sick and tired of constant gatings and barriers being thrown into the game just to stifle our progress.

At this point, with the daily cap in place, I see no way of getting my hellfire set, ever and that has basically given me even less reason to log in. Just b/c some 1 complained they could not control themselves in the past, why should I be penalised for it? Especially some 1 who has been dedicated to the game and supported it since its launch.

So my view on this is, remove the cap, no more caps, gating etc. enough is enough.

As others have said, sorry to hear u had to repeat all that work, that would have been very frustrating

Enemies respawn too fast in my personal opinion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tiger Ashante.1792

Yes, for me this is the number one reason why I don’t enjoy the game. In GW1 it was so satisfying to clear a complete zone, and then just run around it, looking at all the sights. In GW2 you never have a moment’s rest to look at the beautiful art.

^
This is one of the major things i miss from gw1, the sense of freedom one felt after vanquishing a map of being able to run around do mapping , or just enjoy the scenery knowing that as long as you stay in that map, there are no more enemies. It was really something quite special.
Granted you cannot have that setup in an open world, but I have to agree with the comments about fast respawn rate.
I noticed too that some things have been brought across from gw1…what we used to call pop-ups Ie: invisible enemies popping out of the ground or sky, or w/ever. So you see an enemy ahead, you target him and as soon as you engage him, or you move 1 step forward, suddenly 3-4 other enemies pop right under you, or in front of you, often mobbing you do death. In gw1, ppl got to know the pop up areas and always approached it with great caution, as the enemy always popped in the same areas. This was never an issue in Normal Mode, but in Hard Mode, it could easily result in a wipe. Death Penalty (DP) in gw1 was severe, where 1st death hit you for 20% max hp, 2nd 40% and if you hit 60%, you’ve sent back to the outpost. So, unless you had some kind DP removal you’ve in trouble especially if you were vanquishing the map, for it meant you had to start all over again. I remember 1 time, i was vanquishing a particularly difficult map, I had killed something like 220/230 enemies in the map, just had 1 or 2 small groups left and because of the 60% DP i was auto ported to back to town so i had to start from scratch, but not that day lol. But I digress.

But yea, aside from ultra fast respawn in gw2, you then unfortunately get mobbed by pop ups as well. I’m sure this will be balanced out eventually but I imagine these things take time. I know it don’t help those having to deal with this issues right now (myself included) but there really isn’t much you can do except be cautious when you’re alone and hope it gets adjusted soon.

NPE-My vet freind's Experience

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tiger Ashante.1792

Tiger Ashante.1792

I had a lengthy chat today with a long time gw2 friend. We both started our gw2 adventure in BWE1 and have played ever since.

Even so, I did not realise just how passionate he was about the game and how much he loved it. It wasn’t something we talked about much in the past, we just played and enjoyed the game.

I saw today he was leveling a new character so I asked him what he thought about the new patch. “It SUCKS big time” he replied. Oh? How so? I asked. Well this is a short of it what he said.

This is GW2! I loved GW1 and I love GW2! I love it b/c gw games are not about stats and gating. They’re about the skill, the journey and play how you want.

They needed a tutorial, so why haven’t they added a tutorial? Why have they gated the very things I love about this game? At lvl 17 I was told I have unlocked combos and that was it! Nothing to tell me what they are or how they worked. All they needed was a tutorial and leave the game as it was. Instead, I get to unlock my 2nd utility at lvl 24, woopie and now, I’m not getting my elite skill till 40!

One really poignant thing he said, “It made me cry when I had to dance for the cows instead of feeding them”. I assumed he was referring to the very first heart quest you do in the Human Starter area and upon hearing that, I kind of felt sad with him there.

I tried to explain this was not intended for him and me as vet players and since we got lots of lvl 80’s it shouldn’t affect us, but his reply was that this affects everyone! Instead of spending all that dev time designing this stuff, they could have added more stuff to the game along the tutorial like more elite skills that could have been locked and allow the new players to discover and simply adding more fun leveling content, not gating content. I couldn’t really argue with that, even though I personally haven’t played a new character since the patch and cannot offer my own opinion about it.

However, from talking to my normally docile friend and from all the outrage on the forums I have read, I think that what Anet should do, is simply remove the gating and introduce tooltips at various lvls. There should be a new button at top left screen called tooltips (perhaps denoted by a question mark?) with search options once activated, so people can go back and revisit these tooltips in case they pop up at the wrong time, like while they’re fighting or w/ever. But the very first tooltip should be about the tooltip itself and to notify the player of its existence.

2nd thing, there should be an option to disable these tooltips for vet players or anyone for that matter.

Oddly enough, another guildie of mine, also long term player, has been leveling not 1 but 3 alts and I asked him about it as well. He basically likes it all, like the directional compass thing but he also didn’t like the gating aspect of it.

On another note, I just brought a freind across from Lotro to gw2. It took me quite some time to get him to come over and he loves the game. His says the game is perfect, the only thing he doesn’t like is the downscaling lol. It’s something totally new for him, but I assured him he will get used to it. I didn’t like it at first either, but I’m well used to it now and forget it’s even there.

However, he was already lvl 40 when the patch hit, so not sure how he’s gonna feel when he rolls a new character. Time will tell I guess.

Anyway, this was just one little experience form a section of your playerbase Anet, so I hope some of this feedback is useful to you.

Thanks for reading and feel free to comment as long as its constructive plz.

The Megaserver is defunct

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Tiger Ashante.1792

Perhaps someone from Anet would be so kind as to explain to us poor consumers how mega-server is supposed to work to our advantage with the way they’ve structured participation and with lengthy map meta chains. Absent such explanation, I am forced to conclude that the only advantage is that we can get lucky and taxi (itself kind of a pain) to a viable shard. This also leaves the impression that the underlying structures to support player engagement with the content are inadequate to the task.

I would really like to see them implement gw1’s district system. It worked so well and i think it would work in gw2 as well and be much better than this taxi system which i think is bugging out the megaserver in itself. Just look at the LFG at any given time and there’s so much taxiing going on to different maps/events and the megaserver is getting confused. Especially since HoT where now multiple maps are trying to be filled all the time and there’s to much movement going on between these maps with the taxi system.

With the gw1 district system, people can choose which district to got to from a drop down menu and each district has a number allocated (explaining this for benefit of people who hadn’t played gw1) for eg: NA dist 10. The megaserver can have a set number of districts available at any given time, say 30 for eg and then create more if those get filled. This would eliminate the need of having to join groups via LFG, then having to leave that group so more can be taxied in and also having to re-advertise. Instead, you just put in LFG, doing DS meta in dist 10 and people move in until its full. The overflow crowd can then advertise district 11 till it gets full etc. A game message could be broadcast in the map that tell people in it that it’s now full so they can remove the advert from LFG and also people trying to join that map can also receive a message as they do now that district map is full and i think this would make everyone happy.

I honestly don’t understand why this system wasn’t carried across from gw1 to begin with. That game had some very nifty features and everyone liked the district system. I think it would work very well with the megaserver technology in this game as well, but instead, we have this this setup in gw2 that’s an absolute mess and very few people like it.

Those are two things I’d have loved to see here.

I’m not saying this boss is difficult, the only difficulty here has been artificially inflated, by spamming you with CC’s. Like LordOverload says, I play games to have fun and being constantly treated like a football in this game is extremely disrespectful of the player and not fun at all.

I really thought Anet learnt from Orr about taking it easy on CC’s and they seem to as they reduced it there, but in the past year or so, they’ve returned to CC mentality with a vengeance and I really, really hate it. It does not represent fun or challenging gameplay at all, just extreme annoyance.

Edit: I had a friend help me out and it was much easier with the 2 of us but it shouldn’t be required.

OP, if you are still clicking your skills like I just saw on one of your youtube vids then this would explain why you are having difficulty with the content, sure HoT is harder than vanilla GW2 but you certainly do not need a zerg to get through areas, I’m sorry but this is a learn to play issue.

I’m not sure what relevance my playstyle has to do with my thread and it saddens me that all you could say is ltp. I always find it amusing how many people come on this forum and accuse Anet of not letting them play how they want, yet some of those very people will come on here telling others how they should play. I’m fine playing the way i do. Not that it’s anyone’s business, but i do have problems with my hands due to a car accident and its the only way i can play, but tnx for your input anyway.

The thing is clicking your skills takes way too long and makes way less effective as a player. You are more likely to die because you can’t use skills fast enough, I’m pretty sure not even new player click their skills. If you actually do that you really should bind your skills to comfortable keys .

My suggestion would be to use a gaming mouse and bind hotkeys to your mouse that way you don’t have to reach for the key board.

If you actually read my entire post, you would see that much of what i said was criticizing the unnecessary complexity of navigating and finding things in HoT maps, not about me dying. I’m not the only one though, who believes there are too many mobs everywhere in these maps that hit like a truck, ntm, endless CC’s of one kind or another and tbh, i’m already tired of fighting Modrem.

But that is not the main focus of my thread, rather, i feel despite these amazing maps, the sheer difficulty of getting anywhere combined with the mob density and all the gating, has ruined that sense of exploration that we felt and experienced in the core game.

I’ve been to RL jungles that were much easier to navigate than HoT maps. I don’t have time to spend days on end just to get to 1 HP or 1 vista etc. I guess they made these maps so complex in order to waste our time wondering around trying to find our way and to make us think we got more content than we actually did.

At any rate though, i would prefer replies were focused on HoT rather than my game play style, but hey i appreciate your suggestion all the same.

But yea, most of this thread has turned into a competition among opportunists looking to show us how good they are and how easy it was for them, while putting down everyone who dare say anything different.

[SPOILER] Justiciar Adrienne's bloodstone shield

in Living World

Posted by: Tiger Ashante.1792

Tiger Ashante.1792

In case someone else gets stuck on it, here’s how your break her shield:

1) get hit by the bloodstone – this will form a stream between you and the bloodstone, empty your endurence bar and low you down.
2) use the new Mastery skill – this will keep the stream active and remove the endurence denial and slow effect so you can move freely.
3) walk outside of the circle she forms in with her ring-shaped path when she spins around.
4) Get her to walk through the stream – once you hit her with it, it will deplete her shield down quite quickly. It’s a good strategy to follow her path a bit to keep her in the stream.

that’s how you remove her shield!
I got stuck on it for a bit so I thought I should post the solution here

Yea i’m stuck on that and gave up after getting bored and endless mobs spawning, no info on what to do, so i’ll see if i want to go through that again. I thought it was supposed to work like the 2 eles b4 that, but if u get close to her at all she pushes u back, another gimmicky combat scenario that turned out to be tedious and spoiled up to that point a pretty good story flow.

I haven’t read all the posts above, but most of them and you’re not taking into account that these bosses appear in low lvl zones and many players participating may not be lvl 80, geared as well as u, or hardened by HoT. For those players that are on lvl, this battle would be extremely hard and they probably get 1 shot by any of these champs if hit, let alone the executioner. Give a bit of thought eh?

There are lot of new players in this game, first timers and ur all talking about as if everyone is max lvl and has experienced the end game content and so forth. Imo for those lvl zones and ppl trying to fight these bosses on lvl. they’re way op for them.

Can we Please have less chaotic events?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tiger Ashante.1792

Tiger Ashante.1792

I’m getting more and more tired of all the chaos that occurs in gw2 events. It really is over the top. Each new addition of content adds more and more layers of chaos and multi-tasking, with complete disregard for people with poor internet and/or without super gaming computers.

You go to any of the major events in the game and its raining chaos, Tequatl, Tripple Trouble, Silverwastes, the new Shatterer, you name it. You got to any of HoT maps and there’s more chaos there than a sane person can handle. It’s getting rather tiresome tbh. I’ve realised long time ago, u want us to keep killing entire armies at all of these events and have us do tons of multi-tasking in the process and i keep asking myself why. Then u tie achievements to these often ridiculous feats that u supposed to do during these events, creating even more chaos as people scramble aimlessly, trying to figure out what to do in all that mess. It’s very hard to learn anything at these events with so much going on, leaving many players, especially new ones confused and often turns them away from the game. Even when u do figure out the mechanics and all the multi-tasking and achievement u supposed to do, it makes it no less chaotic and frankly more exhausting, rather than fun. I keep hoping for more orderly sanity in the game, but with each update the game is instead becoming crazier and crazier and i don’t mean that in a nice way.

Like today, I was doing Cobalt TT. While combating massive lags, trying to get those powder kegs with 30 other people getting in my face, while having to run over tiny beams u cannot even see due to all the traffic and hop over small crates to bring them kegs ashore and lay them under the big wurm. If u slip into the water u lose the keg, which is easy to do since ur are constantly being attacked and are locked in combat slowing u down. The scene into which ur supposed to carry these kegs, looked like jumbled mess and complete madness reined over the area. You couldn’t even see where u were going as dozens of vet/champ wurms were constantly spawning all around spewing crap everywhere, knocking players down and if u stepped in any of them AoE’s or got hit by them u lose ur keg. I’ve yet to get that achievement and not sure i ever will, not in that chaos. There so much stuff going on, its too much to process for most people and hence why this event and others like it, rarely succeeds, unless ur in some super guild like TTS (I say this with no disrespect for TTS, just using them as an example).

Then i go to Shatterer and it’s yet more chaos and madness. Yesterday i was in AB, TD, DS, chaos rained supreme there too during the metas. I see people at these events, old and new to gw2 running around aimlessly, as they try to survive gazillion mobs all over the place, throwing AoE’s everywhere, ppl dying all over the place, it really is a scene of insanity and i’m getting sick of it.

I really hope that future expansions have more sedate events with more clear mechanics and lesser amount of mobs, which in turn would require less zergy crowds. It’s ok to have an event like Dragon Sand Boss, but having to spend 1.5 hours fighting 1000’s of mobs to get to it, is not.

Anyway, just an opinion of an old gw2 veteran, who wants to point out to the devs, that not all grandiose events have to revolve around massive chaotic zerging and fighting entire armies every step of the way, nor having to do 10-20 different things at the same time to make it appear complex and fanciful. Sometimes, less is more and oftentimes, simple things are the best.

Lvl up your first character normally to get that full game experience, big part of gw2 is exploration and the journey to max lvl, plus u get to learn about the game and your class progressively with tips etc. i’d save your lvl 80 boost for for an alt once you feel comfortable with the game.
Have fun and welcome to gw2

Isn't it interesting?

I’ve read this forum now for some time and seen a lot of complaints, demands rage quitting etc.
Yet when the devs do something good and actually show they listen to players, there’s very little thanks for it.
For eg: I’ve seen people ask for Anet to add Rare Items bank slot, show some form of map completion, fix various bugs, etc and they did.
In the last update many good things were done including the above, which shows they DO listen and take note of what we say, yet there’s hardly any posts that acknowledge their efforts and say thank you.
Well I for one would like to say thanks Anet for listening to us and for great improvements you are making to the game.
Keep up the good work and Merry Christmas to you all!
