The main improvement is: It doesn’t matter if you win a skirmish with 695:0:0 tick (as happen often in off-time) or with a 235:230:230 tick (as happen often in primetime). So the score doesn’t run away that far in skirmishes strongly dominated by one side.

If there are no (fair, balanced) alternatives to choose from any match-making is lost.

In any case it still has more variation than the original system, where you had to fight for any point (now you may get + / – 90 temporary random points) to go up or down.

So crush your opponent more badly to go up or loose badly to go down!

Or vote for a better scoring system that brings more balance or for time-sliced matches that let you run several different matches over the day.

No EU matches were mostly settled before the reset as well. The empty servers would have reached the lowest brackets end of this or next week as well without reset. But if the reset continues as millenium.org currently computes everything will be messed up next week in EU as well.

The problem is servers ranked similarly to TC and FA are gaining rating from much easier match ups and this system in that is pretty much punishing TC and FA because of RNG and that is complete kitten.

9 month of wrong match-ups do not recover within 1 week

I think EotM could be turned into a really good fight map, if a mayor fault that also exist in WvW would be solved:

only conquest is rewarding! defense is not

E.g. the champ only drops if you kill him, why doesn’t he drop a chest for anyone in the objective at the end of every successful defense event?

We need a new scoring, i.e. one that does not reward PvD (currently PvD is more rewarding than successful fights for an objective, if you see it as reward per time) personally (no drops, karma, WEXP from event and NPCs if there are no defenders) as well as PPT wise (an objective conquered via PvD does score 0). If we have no PvD rewards, we will automatically have much less coverage problems.

We need less servers. With all the player losses nearly no one ouside T1 is able to fill it’s maps.

We need a reward (e.g. all Karma, WEXP, EXP, drop-rate is doubled) for playing on low-populated servers, and/or a player-limitation via queue on overpopulated servers.

We need cheap transfers to all under-populated (but only exactly as long as they are under-populated) worlds and NO transfers to worlds already overpopulated.

If we get all this WvW will turn back to much more balance within half a year, if not the queue should be more restrictive and the rewards (drops, karma, WEXP) for playing on low-pop worlds be increassed.

Which makes this whole exercise becoming pointless.

No it isn’t pointless. There are always people like me that are to lazy to

  • make a lvl 53 (and keep it 53)
  • move the bags to it and open them there.

Everyone that follows this guide

  • earns a bit more money
  • helps lazy people like me to spend less on these materials

But it’s only wishful thinking to interpret this statement as “no repetition of match-team composition”.

“Each XYZ will be unique” is a typical marketing statement where anyone can project its wishes into, and which has zero meaning. And every post on http://www.guildwars2.com/ is a marketing press release, as nice as possible words with as less as possible content.

Unique, of course every match will be unique, it’s not a replay of the last one, it happen at a different point in time, e.g. as the opening match or as the final, already enough to make them unique.

Free transfers to small pop servers?

There are 2 reasons for server transfers:

1) balancing general population, such that new customers fit onto the existing servers.
That’s of course ANets main interest and I guess that was the reason why there was a free transfer event to low pop servers. But that has 0 meaning with respect to WvW balance.

Concerning WvW-balance a relation between transfer-costs and WvW-rank would be much more useful:

2a) transfer-costs = WvW-rating, e.g 886 gems to transfer to ET; 2 218 gems to transfer to SoR or

2b) cost = (server-rating – rating-of-worst-server) * 2 would give ET = 0 gems; SoR = (2218 – 886)*2 = 2664 gems, or

2c) …

Maybe this can be combined:
- a PvE player (Sum of WvW-ranks of all chars < X) pays for transfers as it is now
- a WvW-player (Sum of WvW-ranks of all chars ≥ X) pays 2a or 2b or 2c …

I think this video and descriptions sounds interesting.

BUT why the hell should it be part of WvW?

It would be much better as another play-mode!!!
A play-ground on it’s own for all that like bigger-scale than pvp and smaller scale than WvW.

Sperate the Maps and Speparate the score and voila. both the Pro’s and the Contra’s should be happy.

And if you already do that: Add an empty map as GvG-playground as another further mode as well.

Instead of forcing everything into the same ALREADY LAAGY mode, provide different modes for different players/moods.

We (Elona) currently have a good coverage within EU-Ranking, still
there aren’t (and will never) enough off-time player to have full maps 24/7 for all servers and the scoring should take care of that by limiting the score you can get by the number of players playing.

Currentlly Piken and Kodash aren’t fighting worser than Elona during prime time, still the match is a very worse one. The only challenge is: Will we squeeze enough points out of them to stay ahead Vizunah and get gold or not?

That’s not good game design, that’s a bug.

Do NOT buy (ascended) rings for Laurels thats a waste of good laurels. You will swim in ascended rings as soon as you do fractals.
Ascended jewelery you best get:

  • Amulet for laurels in LA (or less laurels and some bagdes of Honor (BoH) in WvW/EotM)
  • Rings from Fractals (Do your fractal dailies in 1-20)
  • Accessoires from Guild Mission Rewards (Join a large guild and do the weekly Guild missions with them)

Backpack in ascended is very expensive, Soldier-Exo-Backpack (for 42k karma) you get from Grenth Temple in Cursed Shore (or craft with 400 crafting)

For Exotic Armor look into the TP, some are as cheap as 40s.

Exotic Weapons you can get easily from PvP-Reward tracks (if you just do your PvP-Dailies you get one every 2-3 days), or dungeon rewards (or 1g plus some BoH in WvW/EotM)

Map-completion of Lvl 70-80 areas gives you 2 exotics as reward per map.

The physics behind undead dragons or why Tequatl can fly

Living consist mostly of water and water is the main reason of weight of Living. On dead living dry out and dead creatures are also infected by bacteria that produce Methane. Methane is slightly lighter than normal air.

So Tequal is a kind of Methane-ballone where his cells are now filled with Methane instead of Water, making him in total only slightly heavier than air, a weight his wings can easily cary in air.

Methane is also burnable (-> dragon-fire), the smell of Tequatl breath that let us all run away when he cries does NOT come from Methane (it’s odorless) but from Hydrogen sulfide also produced as Tequal is rotting since ages.

Summary: If we would have undead dragons on earth they could fly on earth without any magic

Solution to fix the population imbalance

Manual interaction is not a fix. The problem remains and the problem is:
more manpower/coverage => more score and rewards => more attractive transfer-target => more manpower/coverage

Solutions that want to last longer than a few weeks or month, therefore have to break this self-reinforcing feedback loop.

If we would have effective play = more score than stacking at the winning side would usually lead to less effective play (as the newcomer have to be trained and integrated, before they become effective) and therefore less score and rewards, I.e. we get a self-balancing system, instead of an self-reinforcing system.

The best way I see for effective play = more score is dynamic values for objectives.
An objective worth more the worser your odds were at conquest and it worth less the better your odds were at conquest and nothing if you conquer it vs no opponents
(See e.g. In https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Solution-to-fix-the-population-imbalance/4452770)

It would be good if the same is done for rewards, conquering an objective while you are superior should give you less rewards than conquest while you are inferrior.

And the same for kills, with the odds in your favor, kills should be worth less (score and drop-table) than kills done against the odds.

How large you make the area in which the odds are calculated leads to interesting variations. For the dynamic value of objectives I would propose map based odds, for battles maybe smaller areas are interesting as well.

It helps vs a bunch of related problems

  • man-power imbalance of teams
  • coverage (as domination vs no opposition generates only low score objectives)
  • Zerg-size (as better odds are rewarded less)

The 6-5-4 score is because everyone started with 3 Victory Points. We will be fixing it so that everyone starts with 0 Victory Points but this change won’t be in for a few weeks.

And the worst thing:

The longer the concentration (or exit) process isn’t countered, the faster it will run. No longer driven by the rewards, but simply by: being able to play.

If you stay where you are, you will either do not find enough friends to play with or you do not find enough enemies to fight against.

ANet is already sleeping with respect to that for half a year, time is running out.

Lets say 100 players answered the survey. That would mean 68 didn’t want a new season. But that is 68 out of MILLIONS of potential players, so it is really rather small part of the actual playerbase.

Of course it would also mean only 32 out of millions potential player want a new season. Not really a good justification to make one.

Nothing against a season with special WvW/EotM-Achievements, that’s on the positive side. But this uncompetitive competition with special prices for better placement in a tournament only leads to further imbalances that harm WvW more than it helps anyone.

Only a Wvw-player feels to be in danger, if their screen shows only friends.
Only WvW-player are doing AoE to areas with piles of already dead.
Only WvW-player aren’t wondering that the pile of deads is AoEing back.

If I put the
- 30secs dealy before contestet, and the
- more damage by arrow-carts, and the
- treb-shoots cannot be catched anymore
together, my imagination predicts the following WvW will make most points.

Golem-rushes without opposition (you have now 30sec to capture it before it is even shown on the map) in the off-time and unbeatable arrow-carts/defensive-treb defense of everything – you captured in the off-time – during prime-time.

  • Friction war instead of winner take it all
  • Down-State becomes a meaning even for the classes that cannot do much while downed

If they would additionally disable rally in WvW, the game would be much better.

Optional improvement: Bloodlust score should be given for any dead, not only stomped ones. (Fleeing into water, jumping down a cliff, Alt-F4 all this stuff only to avoid a Bloodlust score point would be better in my opinion)

How about a weaker form of friendly fire (which has to many negative side-effects)

Every Friend in your AoE Area count against your AoE-Limit

So if you put AoE onto an area with 5 friends you do no damage. I guess this will take out all teeth of the Blob-Stacking Meta.

This will make single-target skills more valuable as single target skills will be the only way to hit enemies in your blob.

It will make small groups valuable that can “hide” in the enemy blob.

Both could need an upgrade for large-scale fights.

Generally I would propose the following priority in AoE target selection:
Invisible Friends > Invisible Enemies > Visible Friends > Visible Enemies
I.e. you only hit a visible enemy with AoE, if there there are less than 3/5 friends or invisible enemies in your target area, you only hit invisible enemies if there are less than 3/5 invisible friends in your target area. The higher priority for invisibles is needed as you cannot target them with directed skills.

The problem was that WvW players Were not getting achievement awards because the lifetime based permanant ones were unrealistic.

The solution was to add WvW daily achievement awards (3 of them, in addition to PvE one that can be completed in WvW), and to add short term bonus achievement points for seasons similar to living story.

WvW player still have much less achievements to get than PvE.

WvW got special achievements twice over a year, and PvE got them every second week over a year. Thats 2:26 in special achievements

Daily’s are more or less even now.

The amount of points and the number of intermediate steps in the WvW-achievements are still ridiculous small.
Why not a repetitive achievement (like scrapping) 5 pts every 5000 kills?
5pts every 200 dolyaks.

And yeah the titles like dolyak slapper are still not reachable.
GW2 will be shutdown before anyone will reach that.

and
Piken Square – Jade Sea – Augury Rock

At first sight 3 boring match. 2 of them are already clearly decided and I’ve no doubt that Jade will make the 3rd one clear in the night from Sunday to Monday.

Why do I call it EU 1-3 Super Match if it is so boring?

Because it offers a lot of suspense below the surface!
- Will jade be able to defend it’s 3rd place vs SFR and/or Kodash?
- Will the distance between Vizu and Elona increase or decrease?
- Will SFR stay ahead of Kodash?
- Will Deso stay ahead of Baruch?

The first two questions are match crossing questions, the last 2 of them are in match questions, but both server better do not fight them out in game or they loose both.

Maybe this is more interesting to watch than to play, but if noone plays for it there is nothing to watch

On an week with a lot of a new kind of suspense!

World Boss Proposal

Problem:

Since the introduction of the Mega-server World Bosses are timed and totally crowded. Neither is it fun/interesting to kill a world-boss in a crowd of 100+ nor does Gw2 work very well with 100+ people concentrated on the same small area.

  • FPS breaks down
  • Ping breaks down due to server overload
  • A lot of people have DC/Client-crashes due to overload
  • Mega-server technology has problems with the masses of people moving around in the world.

Also when a boss-kill is part of the daily quests it’s partially hard for those with limited time with each boss appearing only once every few hours.

Propoal:

Make world-bosses always startable by anyone after a 15min cool down. Tequatl, Karka and 3-H worm can already be started by guilds at any time. Add such an NPC to every so far timed boss (beside Teq and 3-H worm that should remain as timed bosses as they need that many people), starting the pre-events for that boss, but make it free (or cheap, some silver donation collection) to start for anyone.

Still the restriction to 1 bonus-chest per day and account and 1 boss-chest per day and char should be in place, such that farming them is severely restricted (maybe add champ-bag is only dropped, if boss-chest is available).

Why does it help

  • As in principle all bosses are always available people will spread out further, you do not have to follow the general boss-kill mega-zerg (mega-zerg as it it much larger than the capacity of one map).
  • You can do boss-dailies whenever you like and find enough people to do it.
  • For dredge commissar (which is available every 20min) it already works very well, it has 10-30 people killing him (no fps/ping drops, no DC/crashes, …) not 100+
  • People can organize world-boss tours as they like them, e.g. in a guild group, as a random group as a community TS and in a size they like, not being forced by mega-server into a 100+ crowd.

Both equally at the rank at which both are playing of course,
e.g. Desolation +Ruins of Surmia play rank 1 and Dragonbrand +Isle of Janthir play rank 3 so any of those servers cost 3k gems.

That’s the essence of this proposal. It doesn’t make any sense to me that transfer to Desolation directly cost 1.8k while its only 500 to join Desolation inderectly via Ruins of Surmia

They aren’t excluded, every server play 24/7. Just in different matches, where each slice has it’s own balanced opponent selection (i.e. each slice has it’s own Gicko and or league).

E.g. Blackgate may face (and be beaten by) Henge of Dengerai in NA-Prime, but during NA-Night Blackgate faces JQ and HoD face GoM (I am EU, don’t take the examples to serious)

It’s the worst non-sense I’ve ever seen in a game:

A competition where matches are only decided by 2:1 or by PvD, and the real fights do not matter et al.

Here just another illustration of the capabilities of the league-winner (2nd in this case, 48h of fighting are worth less than 4h PvD, great competition)

PS: may sound a bit less constructive, but as all my constructive proposals (at least 3 different ones, none denied 24h availability of WvW) were ignored, it’s time for pure critic. The constructive ones can be looked up in my post-history as soon as the problem is acknowledged as a problem.

As long as match-structure and balance aren’t fix, WvW and EotM are unplayable.

Foreword: This is NOT a complain against forum rules, but against some technical issues resulting of it.

I repeatedly get messages
“A message you posted has been moved to another forum
A moderator moved a message you posted to the forum ‘Trashcan’ with the reason:
…”

I can understand the reasons why Match-up threads are not allowed, but it is bad that:

1) It happens quite often in cases where an originally acceptable thread got turned later on by some people into a matchup thread.
2) The message contain no indicator which thread or message was moved, so it is difficult to see if relevant discussion parts got lost as well.

I would therefore propose:
1) put an indicator of the thread into the email
2) do not move it to the trashcan but to the old read-only https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/matchups archive, such that relevant discussions of non-matchup topics are preserved, and cannot destroyed by some trolls turning the thread into a matchup-thread.

Tyria mastery-a grinding nightmare

If you’re a veteran and you didn’t already have enough central Tyria mastery points the moment HoT came out, playing as you had been playing before HoT isn’t going to give you any more points.

Huh? Yesterday I killed the Karka Queen and got a Mastery point. I’d killed the Karka Queen many times in the past. Explain please.

You did it the first time since HoT-release where the achievement got introduced?

Sanctum of Rall (est. T1 after this week, ranking 2194.2, deviation 176.4) could not possibly roll lower than 2017.7, while Sea of Sorrows couldn’t roll higher than 1982.6 (est. T7, 1797.5, 185.1) so they could never actually match up.

That’s wrong and it’s in several of your possible matches as well, e.g.
SoR – BG – SoS 0.37%
SoR – TC – SoS 0.09%
SoR – DB – SoS 0.05%
SoR – JQ – SoS 0.04%

The basic idea is: they do not have to overlap, it just must be possible that mostly one is left in between (and everyone else is able to “roll-out”). And of course match-alignment must fit.

Yeah the video is depressing.

Took the community more than half year to convice the wvw-team that match making had a design mistake, problem got recognized dec. 2012, here a summary of may 2013: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/matchups/T1-EU-24-05-2013-Elona-Vizunah-Jade-Sea/2126487

And looking at the video, they still seem to believe that WvW has no balance problem, and that their making of seasons is a good thing for the healthyness of WvW.

Yeah, I left WvW during the last season, only play EotM now. You should all do the same, such that they will finally notice the need for a change.

And Hey: you can fight in EotM, you just have to do it, and you can be in TS you just have to do it. Would have the additional advantage that the pure EotM people support improvements of WvW to get rid of the WvWlers that crashed their karma train.

Here’s a simple fix:
Make it so that points earned depend on the number of enemies on the battlefield.
Easier targets should mean less points.

But does that really fix the issue?
Why should people that can only play outside prime-time be less useful than those that can play at anytime?

No one proposed to make people that play during periods of lower activity less useful than players at high activity periods.

But I strongly suggest to make them finally equal!

Currently the off-time player is highly overrated!

Nerf the domination of Coverage

We are currently second in EU-coverage. Still I find a game nonsense where
the presence/absence of 50 off-time people decide a match and the quality of 1000 prime-time people has no influence on match-outcome.

I want that both player have a similar influence on the out-come. This does not punish off-time people, but of course it reduces their current imbalanced over-poweredness.

Auto balance seems like a stupid idea to me. Its not a structured pvp where it has to be balanced.

Says a SFR commander that needs a 3:1 to farm the baggies he want?

I agree with psizone. A complete reset of WvW. And a restart with fewer team where only people that play WvW are counted and where imbalance is hard-limited is probably the best.

The only alternative I see is a reducing of match capacity: half teams, half map capacity in prime time (200 ppl max instead of 400) and a quarter in off-time (100 instead of 400). Then more man-power isn’t an advantage, but just more people in queue as in the beginning of WvW-

Requesting Loot at Feet toggle

  • Heart-quests start without having to run to an NPC

And I like that.

Why do I have to care about grabbing loot? I mean Tyria has pets and golems and …. loot collection should be automated, it’s not really a big challenge, only routine and from time to time (especially in WvW) annoyance when you lie dead beside your steel chest.

I would not vote for loot-by-feed, I would vote for loot-to-inv!

I think you all forgot two more very important reasons for TP-trade

  • It syncs NA and EU markets, where f2f trade isn’t possible
  • Any reasonable amount of off-TP-trade makes black-market transactions (e.g. gold/items for real money) much harder to detect.

Btw. TP-trade isn’t taxed because it has costs, but because it makes the economy better. So why should f2f trade be tax-free? It can and should be taxed by 15% as well So: f2f trade is superfluous, it has only disadvantages.
