Anet causing the issues

in Ranger

Grimwolf.7163

During GW1, ANet made constant skill changes. It was common to see patch notes with sweeping changes to skills across basically every class. On top of that, considering they had no official forum, they were also very good about stating their positions on balance concerns and their reasons for making certain changes.
I think the issue here is simply that the game is still extremely new, and they’ve been spending all their time lately getting the Halloween event ready. So not only have they not been working on sweeping class changes, but they’ve not started getting into them enough to give anyone a definitive position on various issues.
They may have been unspeakably God-awful at actually achieving balance, but they certainly tried very regularly.

The only time you would use steal to stomp is on a thief, if it is ready to use, press it the second they shadow step, and youll blink to them without stopping the stomp, and a tuft of hair as a trophy for your accomplishments

You can also use it on Mesmers and, if you have great timing and they were dumb enough to blow Mist Form immediately, Elementalists.

We Do Not Like Scarlet Briar

Hopefully this thread maintains the constructive criticism these forums require and not be deleted.

I really enjoy this game for a lot of reasons, from dodge rolling to WvW. The world was rich an immerse the moment I stepped foot into it. Once I caught up on the lore by playing Guild Wars 1, I really appreciated the story.

Then a weed named Scarlet was introduced. Sure, she felt a bit wacky, but I was okay with it at first. Then she started cropping up in everything, and it began to feel forced and unoriginal.

Now she is behind the Thaumanova Reactor and there are aether-looking items around the world with a sign saying “DO NOT TOUCH” (clearly of Scarlet design), and I’m just done.

ArenaNet writers, your players are speaking to you.

Listen closely; this is the important part:
We do not like Scarlet Briar!

I originally voted for Evon, but now I’m glad he lost; I swear to god, the Abaddon fractal would have shown how Scarlet invented a time machine at some point, and was the one who originally defeated Abaddon.

Revert the (PvE) Dancing Daggers nerf

in Thief

Posted by: Grimwolf.7163

Grimwolf.7163

There was a LOT in the most recent patch that obviously was more or less completely untested, ill conceived, and not fully planned. This is mostly because it’s created far worse problems for many classes than it purported to solve.

For thief, nerfing dancing destroyed whole builds and toppled an already teetering balance among the weapon sets. That’s a MUCH bigger issue that’s a lot more work to solve than any problem caused by the damage dancing was doing. And, it needed to be solved BEFORE dancing was nerfed.

Same kind of thing with mesmers. Sure, tossing a phantasm through a wall was completely absurd and needed to be fixed. But, the way it was done just put another class on the “obstructed” list. It’s just worse for mesmers because one phantasm is about 75% of their DPS — assuming it’s actually possible to become unobstructed. As you all know, there are many spots (eg. AC burrows) where range is obstructed no matter where you stand.

Obviously, in that case, the obstruction issues needed to be resolved before creating a worse problem than the one you tried to solve.

Now, we’re in a state of “oh, we’re busying working on the event” and thus won’t see any fixes until late January. Not sure about y’all, but I could care less about the events when the game has bugs like these.

Seriously. They never should have done these events at all with how new and buggy and unbalanced the game is right now.
If I remember correctly, GW1 waited until the second year to implement events, and that’s really what they should have done here as well.
There are way, way more important issues. The developers have their priorities completely off.
The events only last over a weekend, then they’re totally gone. What in God’s name made them think they should be wasting so much precious time and resources on them right now? They’ve been doing another freakin’ event every single month, stopping them from accomplishing practically anything else.

Think about it, how long ago was this botched up class balance patch that we’re here complaining about right now?

Regarding the gun kits, you could easily get rid of the backpacks there since the weapon itself is being held.

- Flamethrower – add two barrels of fuel attached to the waistline where one would normally carry one-handed weapons.

- Elixir Gun – gun can be standalone
- Tool Kit – character holds wrench in hand
- Bomb Kit – character holds a bomb belt with visible bombs in left hand. Can flap about when moving, but ideally should have more heavy gravity affecting it to hang downwards. Add additional bomb belt to waist.
- Grenade Kit – can be same as above, but loop the belt and make it float a bit more. Add additional grenade belt to waist.
- Med Kit – carry first aid box in left hand by a handle.

That is actually a remarkably succinct idea… Just add an object that you carry in one of your hands, just like the Toolkit, instead of a pack. Remove the pack from the kits that already have a hand-held object attached.
If people want a hobo kit, just get it as a regular back piece. There are at least a couple, and they could turn the kit packs into regular back piece items as well.
Then you could solve the Legendary issue by making it sheathed while the kit is active.

Also, I could have sworn this used to be larger than a mere 4 pages.

Most boring race

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Grimwolf.7163

Grimwolf.7163

While the lore is pretty good, I find the design of the Norn severely disappointing and lacking in any imagination. Especially when you consider that the Charr and Asura are pretty unique races, the Norn lack any kind of uniqueness. They are quite literally just larger humans. It could’ve been fine if they had a shared ancestor, but anet insisted on making sure they’re two completely unrelated races. How can Norn and Humans look 99.999% EXACTLY alike while not being related in ANY WAY.
I think they should’ve had some unique traits, you know. I think it would’ve been cool if the Norn looked like a splice between Jotun and the current Norn. At least then you could tell they’re not humans with a growth-hormone abuse

I completely agree. I feel like the koda are what norns should have been.
I don’t even like the lore, they are literally just nomadic humans with an animist religion. Worst of all, their very existence means that human characters can’t have any tattoos, because it’s the sole defining characteristic of norn.
The hilarious part of the whole thing is, they had around three whole years between the end of GW1 and the start of GW2 to realize how terrible this was.
They could’ve easily just said that at some point in time between the two games they adapted to be in bear form all the time, and that’s just what they look like now.
They even set the precedent for it with Svanir. They could have just said that Jormag cursed them or something.

22 Chests opened, nothing unique

in Halloween Event

Posted by: Grimwolf.7163

Grimwolf.7163

I’ve got to ask all you saying AN ripped you off , wasn’t fair , kicked your dog , whaever.

In those chests you opened , was there something ? I don’t think you are opening blank/empty chests , they still contain everything they could have before.

You are just choosing to buy/spend $$ for the Halloween items.

How in the world is this anything AN is doing “wrong” as the chests are EXACTLY the same as before , now just with more possible loot.

It’s your own personal decision if the chance is worth it or not for the item that you hope to get , and whining after the fact is just amusing.

Everyone here got something in their chests , just not what they wanted , thus again

/stomp foot
/stomp foot
/cry
/stomp foot.

Don’t even try to justify this with something like that. First of all, everyone knows the chests have complete garbage for loot. Second, they made an official statement basically saying “Hey, buy chests now and you might get this awesome weapon skin!” But they made no mention whatsoever of what kind of a chance you might really have. Because if they had, most people would have just continued to ignore them.
They did this to deliberately encourage people to buy the chests for the sole desire to acquire one of these items. Do you honestly believe that all these people would’ve bought 20 or 50+ keys today if the chests were -not- said to contain those items? Neither would they have purchased so many if they’d gotten the skin they wanted within the first several keys.
And the reality is, that the odds are so low that almost no one will actually acquire one without either ludicrous blind luck or buying an absolutely disgusting number of keys.
They consciously decided to manipulate people into throwing money at something with almost no hope of actual return.

Things that could use a buff!

Grimwolf.7163

Of things that need improvements, pistols and traps definitely top the list. I also think our downed state needs to be looked at, it manages to be a bit too good in PvP while being wretched in PvE.

The problem is that it has no damage. You can escape people effectively in PvP which is all you really need there, but in PvE what you want is the ability to down an enemy so you can rally, and Thieves have no damage in the downed state. I think the best option would be to replace the cripple on the main attack with bleeding.
That would tone down their ability to escape in PvP a little which is a real complaint, and it would give you the ability to actually down something to rally.
Another option would be to make it single target, and give it a combination of a short duration cripple and bleed. I might prefer that, but I’m not sure of how balanced it may be.

P/P Thief feedback

in Thief

Posted by: Grimwolf.7163

Grimwolf.7163

I put a lot of thought into it, and I think I’ve thought of a solid solution.
The main problems are that it lacks defense, sustainability and utility.
The reasons for this being that it depends too much on Unload as the sole source of offense, and Unload is too much of a resource hog for this role.
If they buff non-Unload abilities enough to be viable alternatives, it makes D/P and/or P/D overpowered.
If they buff Unload enough to make the set viable single-handedly, it exacerbates the existing problem and makes it a ridiculous one-trick pony spam-fest.

So here’s my idea.
First increase the cast time on Unload, then add a secondary activation to it (a la Shadow Return and such). The increased duration of Unload is important for several reasons.
It will weaken it enough to help balance the addition of the secondary activation.
Draw out activations of Unload, both to reduce down-time spent on condition-based auto-attacks, and reduce the reliance on Initiative traits without making them overpowered.
And finally, to prevent it from allowing too much burst potential with the secondary, and make it that much easier to trigger the secondary (since it would be available while Unload is active).

The secondary could be called something like Reload. It stops the Unload mid-cast, triggers a small evade window during the early portion of the cast, and restores a couple Initiative.
The cast time of Reload would be sizable, and only give back the Initiative when it completes. Something like a 1 second cast with a 1/2 second evade at the start.
This would give a bit of much needed defense (particularly while using Unload, which currently jams up defense and utility further by locking out other abilities), and gives back some Initiative to help with stringing in non-Unload attacks more frequently.
It would also make Unload spamming for offense significantly less boring and more involved.

Outnumbered Buff-a plea to make it useful

in WvW

Posted by: Grimwolf.7163

Grimwolf.7163

why we wont see a useful outnumbered buff:

scenario — player enters map where his server has outnumbered. server loses outnumbered. other players harass him to leave so server can be stronger.

Correct. The idea behind the buff is to incentivize you to show up even if you are outnumbered by pulling out some of the disincentive for losing a lot, but if we put anything too good on it, it will cause serious problems between players. We don’t want it to be something that people fight over, harass each other over, or generally cause a worse play experience because someone takes away the buff because it is our goal for the maps to be full and for no one to have the buff.

Then couldn’t you just NOT use a binary formula for the buff? Make it scale the more thoroughly outnumbered you are.

Because you’ve created your own preconception that they’re supposed to be a bizarre form of mount.

I think they set it too far apart from land combat. Stealth finishers need to go

in Thief

Posted by: Grimwolf.7163

Grimwolf.7163

This one is pretty simple, everything should have some means of a counter and atm stealth finishers have none so unless ArenaNet is willing to add a new downed skill to all classes to prevent thieves from finishing you off with impudence then they need to remove this. Thieves shouldn’t be the only class that can negate all other classes downed abilities simply because they have one ability that trumps all others.

Thanks for your time

I think what you mean is, you can’t do anything personally, if you happen to be playing a Ranger, and they have no allies standing near them who you can target with Thunderclap instead.
Because everyone else can avoid it perfectly fine.
Engineer – Booby Trap
Mesmer – Deception
Guardian – Wave of Light
Thief – Shadow Escape
Elementalist – Vapor Form
Warrior – Vengeance
Necromancer – Fear

I think the real problem is simply that you’re terrible at the game, and would rather drag everyone else down to your level than try to improve.

While we’re complaining about stealth and stomping, I’d like to point out that thieves can still BE stomped while in stealth, making the #3 downed skill totally terrible for most situations.

I feel like they procrastinate and leave it all for some last minute frenzy of effort.

When the loading screen STILL would not finish, I restarted the client to see if I could still get the items. Nope. And I wonder if everyone who fell into that lava pit were denied the item too because of being stuck at the loading screen.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed today’s event despite some lag. I do think that you should make the items available from an npc, like what happened after halloween.

I agree about them adding an NPC for it; at least for the unique 20-slot box and accessory.
I really don’t know how I feel about the rewards; the event itself was an abomination, but it had a completely sick reward at the end. Now because it was so botched up most people either did not or could not complete it despite being there for the event, and wound up missing out on an amazing reward.
Had we really not gotten anything, I could at least feel like I hadn’t missed out on anything.
