I don’t see why any veteran WvW player would oppose changes to base pips, giving new players a little more incentive to continue with the game mode and hopefully help revitalize it. Our veteran bonuses wouldn’t change, we’d still get rewards faster than the newbies.

If these “veteran” players really don’t care about the rewards like they claim not to, then I don’t see why they’re even posting in this thread to begin with. It seems like they do actually care about rewards, but by golly I don’t think they’ll admit that. Would they?

A question to all WvW players opposing changes to base pips to make it easier on the newcomers: Do you care about WvW rewards more than the WvW game mode?

I love having new people in game.

But we have seen with past WvW-only loot, people come in, don’t contribute, and leave once they grind it out in as few as a couple days. Then complain that there’s no content.

Remember the uproar about removing crafting tables?

I think the longer it takes to earn something, the more likely you begin to understand the game mode, creating resiliency and affording longterm population. There’s already been several posts by people saying they didn’t realize how much fun it is.

At the end of the day, the resistance by the “vets” stems around not wanting to enable this “because I want it” mentality and instead encourages a measure of investment.

The bottom line is nobody needs these new thing in order to play the game.

When I came to this server it was only high populated, with cheap transfers it went to very high…

You could go to a low population server. And considering your not on a T1 server, if you are in NA, I would say you are either on SBI or TC. One of those is almost a tier one server, and the other is a massive bandwagon….

The queue is not long on maguuma, and we are rank 6. SOS, FA, and so on, do not have long queues either.

Given that NA leagues haven’t launched yet, I would say he’s on EU. Just a hunch tho.

I don’t know what’s happening… Nonetheless, the pictures made me smile.

Each week, every server must adopt a supreme commander to help with score updates and lead them in battle. A couple weeks ago TC had Supreme Commander Gary Busey … it was a disaster, he kept wandering off and getting naked with the centaurs on our bl .. or he tried to hug a skritt, it was ugly — but provided plenty of fodder for much laughter.

Up for grabs this week are cartoon supervillians … or we could go another way and pick D-list celebrities again. Really up to what everyone wants.

I wish they’d found a way to letting guest servers keep their names. Think it would help with the community identity. And red = enemy, it’s not confusing.

Here’s the thing: If Anet caves and reduces the time/requirements for the reward, then it gets gobbled up in an instant and then on to the next big thing.

If there’s no next big thing until the expansion; then there’s nothing to compel a player to stay in the game (and consequentially spend money).

For those of us who have played MMOs for any significant period of time, think back to your fondest gaming memories. Weren’t they the ones fraught with frustration and effort and then finally victory?

The things you got too easily were soon forgotten.

If you don’t need the new shiny to effectively play, then it’s really down to choice — invest the time, or don’t.

Top servers are being purposefully capped to help spread out the population into the lower linked servers. Once unlinked, I believe the hope is that the lower tiers will see a much better parity for action-based WvW.

Opening up the higher tier servers would defeat this attempt to fix an issue everyone’s been screaming about for three years — stacked T1 NA servers.

Over in EU it’s a bit different (well except for SFR :p), where players have spread themselves out and not stacked any one server — although that appears to be changing, too sadly.

This initiative is to push NA players into different servers because they were unwilling to destack themselves, and still cried on the forums about it.

Not really. Most wait till the enemy gets bored or leaves the keep. Then they dodge the npcs and portal in.

It’s more impressive if a Mesmer can dodge being chased by five or more enemy, hide, stealth, then portal in, without some lame outside rezzing mechanic.

In reference to the match up with FA and TC it’s probably been the best WvW I’ve had the last 7 months. I’ve really enjoyed and learned a lot from both servers and so has [CO] as a whole. We’re looking for a chance of pace, more of a server with stability and average time zone coverage (nothing too crazy).

Would be nice to have Thustlewhumber here with me (and the rest of you guys too! ) .. lord knows he’s trucked his way over to our side of the map to help so often with various “issues,” he almost feels like an honorary member.

I don’t think GvG can happen with FA/TC simply because of the level of mutual antagonism and vitriol. For GvG to happen there has to at least be a small level of mutual respect/trust and repeated efforts to try to establish this has failed.

The immaturity level of the SoR community is astounding.

The only thing SoR manages to win is third place, just like last week & the week before that… I’ve gotta give it to you though, you do have a strong weekend warrior crew largely composed of 12-17 y/o gamers which is why you aren’t able to perform up to T1 standards during the weekday and probably why your server doesn’t get any transfers. The whole being mushed into 1 huge zerg ball bouncing from map to map together is a pretty good strat for your server, really shows your all about quantity over quality.

(P.S. that post is probably the most mature comment I’ve seen coming from an SoR player, especially the “wambulance” part; lol very classy. Keep up the good fights kids.)

I can solo most champs on my elementalist …. Takes a while and requires me constantly changing attunements …. But it’s doable almost every time. The only one I haven’t been able to beat was this major spider in a cave I forget which zone but it had a billion hp and needed a couple others to kill.

A lot of TC people left and went to Mag last time it was open….then after that BG opened and a lot of players from Mag went to BG. TC and Mag have both dropped Tiers a lot. I almost feel like this is happening intentionally so people pay to bandwagon. Hopefully that’s not true and things will get sorted out soon, something with the mechanics must be off.

Requiring only rank 1000 would not be something anyone could walk in and do. I have played since Beta and I am almost at 600 with some concerted effort this last week, and I would not have a problem with needing another 400 levels, but needing 1400 more is just ridiculous.

One last comment for this post, I heard of someone mentioned that people don’t exclusively play WvW. Well it’s partly true. After all, WvW costs money, and as a commander, you can’t hope to get superior siege just by WvW alone. PvE is there for us commanders to make enough money to WvW for proper foods, buffs, and siege, unless you have friends or guildies willing to toss all of that at you for free.

Piken has a “scout of the week” award because the server’s guilds and players recognize that those who dedicate their time to scouting, are often missing out on the so-called loot. They award five players 10 gold each week to recognize the efforts made by these players. Money is donated by players and guilds.

I think it’s a smart idea.

As for me — I’ve always used the ol’ CC instead of grinding gold in game (I should probably stop doing that) — so my 10 hours a day of playing GW2 are indeed exclusively in WvW. I guess if I stop playing then I’ll save some money on my credit cards lol.

But my much-beloved trebs need a bit of an adjustment.

For anyone who actually plays the new map as defense, you’ll quickly learn that white swords does not equal lost tower or keep. In fact it means you still have several minutes to respond because the wall and gate hp has been significanly increased.

For defenders, especially smaller crews, this is fantastic, and I truly hope they keep it this way.

However, and this is the part I feel slightly guilty about, if you spend any time defending, you also know, if you’re a good scout, that if you get there early enough, a single regular treb can keep out a 30-man zerg with five rams at the gate. So, in effect, a handful of defenders can thwart a big blob.

I LOVE this. No longer is it “white swords!” and the tower is gone a second later. But I feel guilty and don’t think it’s fair that one person, in effect, can hold off 30.

Treb damage needs to be toned down a bit. It should certainly be a viable defense if gotten to early, but it shouldn’t be able to fully stop a massive blob like it does now.

And I love my trebs. But I’m also interested in fair play.

The benefits of moving to TC goes beyond WvW. It’s what ensures the server will be stable for the long haul. I would suggest those looking for a permanent home investigate TC, simply because the overall population will not shift, no matter the score. When they start merging servers sometime down the line, you can be assured that TC won’t be affected.

It’s kind of nice to see people out everywhere you go, at any hour of the day, in pve. It’s just an added perk to our server.

Well thats my problem with it, people need to spend 15 badges plus some silver plus having supply plus hoping the thief will trigger it so he/she finally shows up during the fight. No other class mechanic requires all the stuff thats needed like this.

Oh it was driving me crazy too. Was jaw-dropped over one guy managing to down all four of us (not all at the same time, one would rez the downed, etc) … it’s the perfect troll build.

But until I learn how to counter it more effectively on my class, guess I’m reliant on thief-gank mentality and stealth traps. New puzzle to figure out. Annoying one though.

We have been getting this lovely influx of players from EU servers this past week. Very happy to see all these new faces popping up in game and on our community forums. Seems like TC is becoming the destination server for those in EU who want to give NA a try.

As for my 18 hour shift, we have countless others who are doing this as well. It’s really quite remarkable to see how many of us love to defend and fight for TC. The dedication is amazing. Not really, putting aside any real incentive/disincentive for the bandwagoning aspect, population balance has been an issue at all tiers and goes way beyond “bandwagonning”, in fact imbalances have often been far worse in mid/lower tiers where “bandwagonning” was not really an issue.

The simple fact is server vs server is a bad design for RvR type game mode, factions / alliances are far better because they are far more flexible at producing balanced populations, but also at handling imbalanced populations to give better gameplay, server vs server is literally the worst most inflexible design you can have.

Factions will reduce identity. Loss of identity means less attachment to game. Less attachment to game means players fairweather to other games,

Without community, identity, population balance becomes moot. Because there will be no players.

There’s a reason games like WoW and EQ franchises are still chugging along with paid monthly subs after 10-plus years.

Couple that with the fact that ANY rework of faction/server is useless without resolving bandwaggoning (aka community building/attachment), will result in the same scenario we are in today. Factions in no way will magically fix anything. It will only serve to alienate the loyalists and drive them away.

If I have a good 1v1 fight, I wont jump on the person. However, if you jump me with 3 other people and I find you solo and stomp you, you better believe i’m going to jump on you.

I’ve actually had a few 1 vs 2 and 1 vs 3 where they all took great pride in their antics for beating an uplevel in greens/blues. A couple of times I’ve caught the culprits alone and they didn’t fare so well.
