I also got the e-mail, and since I’m not a new player, it really puzzled me, so I had to spend some time analyzing it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was from guildwars2.com, but guildwars2.ncsoft.com which is not the game website and has “A description for this result is not available because of this site’s robots.txt – learn more.” notice in Google, paired with non-readable links usually used for tracking users or deceiving them, made me really suspicious.

Just saying, the vast majority of the attire that’s available on this game is what I’d expect to see on strippers. I really am baffled how you think otherwise. :P

Just saying, except it isn’t if your math is ok:

I like skimpy but I think we should have more non-skimpy now. We got enough of one, let’s bring the other up to par.

We have 15 Skimpy vs 27 Non-skimpy female light armors. We have ~5 skimpy vs 37 Non-skimpy female Medium armors(But a lot more low-cut tops). We have 9 skimpy vs 33 non-skimpy female heavy armors (Unfortunately, all faction armors are skimpy).

We have 5 skimpy vs. 37 non-skimpy male light armors. We have 0(!) skimpy vs 42 non-skimpy male medium armors. We have 5 skimpy vs. 37 non-skimpy male heavy armors.

I considered any armor that exposes any part of the torso (Other than neckline) or legs to be ‘skimpy’ for the purpose of this examination, which means a lot of armors that are ‘skimpy’ still cover a significant amount of the body.

Yes, there’s an imbalance and one side needs to be brought up to par with the other. It’s not the non-skimpy side, though.

"Play How I Want" Is Gone

The real problem is that this is a distraction from the reality. Here’s what your real problem is:

Player retention in this game is bad. I don’t know how bad, but given that having 3500 Achievement Points puts you in the top 10% should give you an idea. 90% of accounts on this game have less than 3500 AP.

80% have less than 1800 AP.

Do you know what the 50/50 split is? It’s somewhere around 800 AP.

If half of the accounts in the game don’t even have 800 AP, that’s a pretty good sign that player retention is not great. For a game that needs people logging in to buy gem store stuff in order to continue to earn revenue, that’s a disaster in waiting.

Now, you need the revenue, so this means you have a couple options: try to bring your old players back (expansion) or try to create new players (sales and retention).

That’s rather interesting by itself; however:

  • How different is it from other games? Is 50% at 800AP worth of time good, bad or normal for a B2P MMO? How long is this 800AP in terms of time, is it people who’re not logging in or people who’re playing but so “inefficiently” that they rarely get AP?
  • What is the main source of income, who are the people who pay most? Is it those who buy the game and desert it in a couple of hours, those 50% who play till 800AP regularly buying gold, or those 10% above 4300AP who’re loyally playing the game?

Now the other part: why are solutions self-exclusive?

  • When solving one problem (new player retention), why is it important to punish the other part of the players (loyal/veterans)?
  • NPE as an example: why can’t you have all that spoonfeeding gating on only till you get one character at 80, and turned off afterwards? That would achieve the goal but also make altoholics happy.
  • Dailies as an example: why can’t you have large generic dailies (“kill 50” or even “100” mobs) along with specific ones, even without extra rewards? That way, you achieve the goal and lure players who log in for 20-30 minutes into doing different stuff (and improving your metrics!), but you make loyal players who only do what they want but for 2-3 hours (and improve your metrics!) as happy as they were before.

This ^ is what is called an “improvement” IMO – making the lacking aspects better, and not sacrificing the stuff which was good for one type of players in favour of others. That’s simply a shift of paradigm.

Restrict forum access to active accounts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Would it be possible to only allow active accounts (such as having been logged on the last x days/week) to write on the forums?

What next – only being able to write on forums if earned x AP during the previous week? And then, only if bought x GEMs? Where one should draw the line in discriminating customers?

Apart from that, there’s an equal chance of having a portion of “white knights” who’re not really logging in or playing but like to stay on forums just to defend and seek attention. What gonna happen to those?

I’m glad that ANet has a sensible stance on at least this point.

Yes, because it is precisely why people play video games instead of communicating with real people: they need either ultimate fun, or usable reward, or documented achievements.

And as you can clearly see but refuse to accept is that things which fail to provide substantial amounts of fun and/or rewards in the game are upsetting players.

Class damage vs Ranger

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

So many words typed, so much time spent, and the OP still fails to realize that mesmer GS auto damage floater is bugged (as it is for many frequent auto skills).

If you do 10000 damage on GS auto over 10 seconds, it means you’ve been doing 1000, 1000, 1000… damage per second. And not 1000, 2000, 3000… 9000, 10000 per second.

And if you’re getting 5000 damage on a Rapid Fire in 2 seconds, unsurprisingly, it means you dealt 2500 damage per second.

I think you’re the one that is confused. The op is complaining that it takes too long for a mesmer to deal 10,000 damage, when compared to ranger. Not what you are trying to say.

Look here:

I tried some experiments with mesmer and gs damage scales when using mind wrack and on some mobs i can get up to 40,000 damage or higher before im forced to move thus resetting the tick. Yet with ranger i can get up to 24,000 damage on one skill and it almost downs the mob.

My question is… why does mesmer channeled dps stack (the numbers add up but the damage is still just 300 per tick) when #2 ranger longbow skill actually does the damage that it claims to on the skill per tick.

There are multiple things I do not understand in OP’s post and they do not actually make sense. Most likely it’s just total confusion over different mechanics of the game, flavoured with a floater bug.

  • On the hour, everything resets.

Right click -> block player

Come back to me when I can Right click -> erase memory. Meanwhile, NO.

GW2 is a comfort zone. If I want competition, I open the door and step back into real life business.

Vayne summed it up nicely in the other 100500th “dueling” thread:

I tend not to enjoy hanging out with the people who like dueling.

This game provides features I like and because of that, I like many of the people who play the game. The community in WoW sucked really hard. It’s not all that hard to guess that part of the reason is that the way WOW is set up encourages more toxic behavior.

That’s why I don’t want it. The more you encourage competitive, testosterone filled in your face behavior, the more people I have no interest in hanging out with will still crowding around. I’ve seen it in more than one MMO. I don’t want to see it here.

Obviously I won’t like everyone, but the more features like that on offer, the more people I like will walk away from the game and the more people I’m not interested in will start playing the game.

It would be interesting to see, for example, by age breakdown, a list of players who like/want dueling.

But having played games with dueling and having not liked the results of what I’ve seen, that’s why I’m against it.

Might it be different in Guild Wars 2. Sure it might. But I don’t distribute brass knuckles down at the bar and hope for the best either.

Ehm… I do.

I used to think, “Karka Shell – awesome, he’s been at that event!” or “Fervid Censer – cool, so jelly, I wish they gave us a chance to reacquire it!” and so on; and now that I simply exchanged hoarded mats for tokens and got those skins which people were receiving for achieving things (even if those things were trivial) during a special event, and I can actually receive all of them if I simply spend more gold, I feel like those skins lost their charm.

Chaos Weapons Need More Love

Lishtenbird.2814

I really like the concept of glowing white weapons which would especially fit guardians with radiant skins (yes, I like unrealistic glowy stuff!), but I can’t help but say that the models look unrefined.

The meshes almost feel like these are starter white (no pun intended) weapons with simple glow over them. They do not feel ethereal or refined, they lack that texture which things like Ley Line skins or Jade skins had and made them good, or that detailing of Fused or Mistforged weapons, or uniqueness of Dreamthistle ones. I was personally excited to get a white hammer skin for my guardian because I didn’t want to wait till another WvW tournament, but after seeing it I decided it lacked polygons and looked small and uninspiring.

So, I would like to know if the community feels like it as well, and maybe we can get ANet to refine the promising Chaos skins a bit to make them closer to being perfect

And at this stage, anything “bad” they bring in the feature pack which wasn’t introduced, will most likely cause an outrage even if it makes perfect sense.

Hi Lishtenbird,

Yes, this isn’t the correct forum. But I went ahead and inquired internally here to someone who might know. In short, this can be considered a bug, but one that is not easy or fast to fix. There is a desire to address this along with some other improvements to the tool tips of transmuted items. But there is no ETA for this.

So in other words, this will likely be fixed once devs are done with game-breaking bugs like non-resetting daily resets, crashing PvP arenas, bugged world bosses and broken iWarden.

Dungeons gotta change in one aspect...

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

This topic has been discussed to death.

I was thinking, a new player using the LFG tool is really supposed to know this stuff just in order to not be kicked instantly from a group just because it failed to skip the whole dungeon?

A new player has to open LFG and type “I’m a new player, I want to do this dungeon!” – and that’s it. If he failed to read “80 only, experienced, zerker, speedrun”, that’s not the group’s fault.

I think the possibility of these paths being skippable by running through mobs only leads to bad gameplay and puts a very bad impression on new players.

Confirmed to be working as intended by a Dev:

It’s one of those human things to do something with the path of least resistance and danger, especially when there is a reward at the end. I could make enemies never drop their aggro on players and force them to fight every single mob, but I don’t see that as a viable solution right now.
I think the better solution is to look at why people are skipping things, and approach from a different angle. Trash mobs have too much HP, and can’t be counted on for lucrative drops from a Risk/Time vs Reward, so people interested in making money (most groups) aren’t incentivized to do it, whereas the end chest/boss are more guaranteed and accountable returns on time and risk. I also think there is something to be said about interesting trash mob mechanics making them more enjoyable of a fight.
I can’t make the rewards from trash mobs so lucrative though that people just farm the first couple trash mobs/boss in a dungeon and then rinse/repeat. We encountered this when people just farmed the first boss in an instance and then restarted it (earlier around launch time), and we had to adjust the content as a result. It’s a fine line you have to walk to encourage players to get to the end, but make the process of getting there rewarding enough as well.

I don’t imagine this next update will resolve all the skipping behavior. The path of least resistance is engrained in people, and even if I do everything I could to incentivize people, there will still be those who skip stuff. I have been fixing exploits that will require players to complete more of the events in dungeons, but I am sure people will still skip what they can to get to their end goal.

For now I would encourage those not looking to skip to find some folks who don’t like skipping and make a guild with them… or maybe look for guilds that are dedicated to not skipping, and tag along with them. I’m in a couple of them (anonymously), and it really is an effective solution to playing the game the way you want to play it: Find other people with similar interests and band together with them.

Guild Hall Decoration Increase

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

To avoid issues, we will continue to limit the number of decorations that may be placed close to one another in a specific allotment of space to 20 decorations within a radius of 500… But even with that protection in place, some players could experience performance issues.

I find this explanation weird. If this is the reason not to increase the limit, then why is HoT stuffed with all those high-textured plants and monsters that appear through a thousand of combat particle effects? The players with low specs are not a reason to downgrade the whole paid expansion, but for guild halls where you never hit as low FPS as at Frozen Maw since no one ever is fighting, it is.

Unfortunately, the increase of the amount limit won’t help much without an increase pf the location limit. I know I’ve easily hit the limit even with huge SAB walls and floors in my JP. No matter the increase, we still won’t be able to make an "office " or an “altar”, and the amount of walking a person is willing to do with how many areas are poorly accessible also doesn’t help extra in terms of extra decoration.

Weapon skins available for 6 days only?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lishtenbird.2814

Lishtenbird.2814

My thoughts:

  • GW2 is a buy-2-play game which provides you with new stuff every few weeks. It has to get money somewhere.
  • Gem Store items are vanity cosmetic or convenience items and not pay-2-win items as you may expect in a “free” game. I find it a very honest approach and think it is perfectly ok.
  • I personally do not like limited availability items, but I understand that it is a viable tactic to get people to buy stuff NOW.
  • Timers appear automatically once the item is available for less than 7 days, AFAIK.
  • 10 bucks for a set of armour or less than 10 bucks for a weapon skin is closer to a cup of coffee and can be paid by most people who’ve graduated from their school and can manage their own money.
  • ANet is kind enough to give you an option to trade gold to gems. Their prices are, however, based on real-world money (see point above) and should not be measured in gold. However if you are a teenager who can’t get a job due to age but have enough free time, you can farm that gold. When too many teenagers farm gold, gold prices rise and make ANet’s income balance out so that the company’s staff doesn’t starve and die.
  • The only thing in ANet’s policy I do not approve of is BLTC chests because it is gambling, but that’s another story.

I don’t really see the point in certain monsters being weak to specific classes (boon strippers) and strong to others. Most people play solo. It isn’t like a Warrior can come up to a wolf and say “oh dang, this mob uses lots of retaliation, let me go and swap to my boon stripping build real quick”.

Welcome to the mesmer world, where your 60% of damage in form of a phantasm just vapoured after the target trash mob died, and the other 10 mobs are glad to kill you while you’re hitting them with a wet noodle. So what did you say about a warrior vs. retal again?

There are skills which can be cast while moving and skills which cannot. Skills like these will get interrupted:

  • Blurred Frenzy
  • Hundred Blades
  • Meteor Shower
  • Whirling Defense

Still, there is no information about it in the tooltips, so the only option is to try it and memorise it. I suggest adding “Stationary”, “Requires root” or a similar tooltip to skills which are interrupted by moving.

I have to agree. I remember loving EverQuest. Anyone that hates ’ the grind" on Gw2…would literally fling EverQuest out the window. I think that there are some players that see play= grind. Unless what they are doing is " what I want to do."

Exactly, you got it! People are playing GW2 because it’s not some hardcore EverQuest; people have a job and a life and get a casual MMO to spend their evenings in a fun way doing what they like when they like without any subscription fee – and that’s what made the game popular. Introducing this change at this stage is wrong, because people who bought Game A now have to play Game B, or pay more money to convert to gold and unlock the ability to play their character.

Does it promote gold sink? Yes.

Does it encourage gem purchases? Yes.

Does it make more people play old content which has already been paid for instead of paying to design new content? Yes.

Is it a win-win? For the developer – yes. For a new player – no difference. For an old loyal customer – more of a post-buy rip-off.

Riding Horses IS more fun!

when you want it, how you want it:) Not every day to job through rain, mud and melting snow in your business suit, right?;)

[Request] Previous Meta Rewards in Last LS

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The thing I would like to suggest runs as follows:

  • Add an ultra cool unique meta reward for this season’s last LS (will happen anyway).
  • Add all previous meta rewards from all previous LS.
  • Let people choose a single reward from the list – either a previous one or a new one.

Why this idea is good:

  • Many new players have missed the original LS that gave specific items not because they failed to make achievements, but simply because they joined too late. Some people may need a place of power to charge their crystals, others (like me) – a shattered wings cover, but unlike tradeable rewards that can be bought and may drop during this LS, there is no chance for us to get these items. Adding this choice would be a nice gesture to new players.
  • Giving a choice of a single item only instead of the new reward will keep the scarcity of these items and will not induce too much of anxiety from older players who like to feel unique.

So,

  • as a new player, would you trade the final reward of the season for some of the old meta rewards?
  • as an old player, would you oppose letting new players choose a reward from previous LS?

Discussion about New Content

I feel living story does not fit this criteria.

“Living story” is not content, it is a concept of delivering multiple types of content.

Previously, it added new maps, new mobs, new themed skills, new fractals, new (semi-)WvW map, new visual perks.

LS2 is adding new content as well: new map, new events, new mobs, new instances, new achievements, new skins, new stats. At some point, it may add a new race, new weapons, new fractals, new dungeon (the latter unlikely) – it would just be added in a new episode and not out of the blue.

So I guess your problem is not with LS per se; it’s just that’s either not enough of it for you, or you don’t like the things you get. That’s your liking and you can’t be “wrong” in it, but I felt like making it clear.

Get the karma one! Trust me the last thing you want to be doing is having to farm karma, It sucks.

Don’t. The last thing you want to farm is karma, because you get more than enough by simply playing the game

yeah – but onl the people who are bad at math say this

with karma you can make most profit in this game^^

You can make most profit in this game by playing the TP.

You can farm most gold by farming gold. 20 minutes of farming sandstorm events give you tons of T6, T5 and lodestones (charged included), plus geodes for clay pots.

Skillpoints are 2g each when converted properly.

Karma is 1g for ~13k. 13k is 1 hour of farming EoTM and forging-selling. 1g per hour? No, thanks.

Oh, and ANet can no longer milk cows, as since the NPE patch we’re no longer feeding those with hay, we just dance in front of them.

I think that in the long run this change will lead to 2 things in both gameplay and economy:

  • Even more people will start using berserker gear because 1) there’s even less punishment for playing risky → no incentive to complete content efficiently, 2) with introduction of Ferocity and rework of sigils, precision-focused builds got nerfed harder than berserker, 3) they believe their rewards went down so they need to kill faster to keep up.
  • Market prices on berserker gear (and relevant crafting mats) will become even higher due to increased demand. Other craftable gear as well as non-craftable inscriptions drop in price because no one needs them anymore, (even?) more non-berserker gear gets salvaged possibly lowering the price of ecto.
