Nov. Monthly Achievement Alienates Casuals

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dailies are for casuals. Short-lenght goals that can be done in less than an hour.

Monthlies are there to focus the playerbase on certain tasks. Not enough people go to WvW in several worlds? WvW Objective. Not enouh people is trying dungeons? Dungeon objective. They want people to try the new areas? Karka kill and fractal objective.

See the trend?

She’s just has the Nightmare brains.

She got crazy in the coconut with nightmare. And those care only about causing chaos all over the place, they are nuts like that. That happens when a genius goes bananas, and this one went the whole fruit basket, with vegetable juices and some sugar sprinkles.

I am going to have to assume that Scarlet is the personal nemesis.

In which case, I feel insulted that such a lame character could possibly be my nemesis. I’d rather see her gone forever.

I will ONLY accept a nemesis I get to design just like my character. Choose race, apperance, gear, dye job, personality, voice, type of minions they have, etc.

Can we get a collectibles tab for RARE crafting materials? What about dungeon tokens?

I got all bank slots and I still need space. I save lots of weapons and items for later use, since I have 13 characters, so I’d rather keep collectibles in the collectibles tab.

I would not mind having to pay for them with gems, but extra collection tabs should be added. This goes not only for rare materials, but also for:
- Intermediate crafting components such as Salt & Pepper or Rawhide Strings.
- Cooked dishes that can also be used as cooking materials.
- Potions and other consumables.
- Upgrades like runes or sigils.
- Tonics.
And basically anything that stacks that anyone may want or need to save for later.

Ranger pets grow as they level.

in Suggestions

MithranArkanere.8957

GW2 pets do not level. They scale with your level. Since there’s no exp data saved for pets, they can’t do anything with ‘leveling’ pets.

And it’ll be a bit silly to have them grown and shrink as you teleport around the world.

The only option left without adding any more variables is taking the player’s actual level.
So even if the pet is scaled in level, it keeps the size of your level.

Finishing 10 different champions, event or meta events should provide better rewards that doing the same one 20 times.

Not if you can do any jumping puzzle, or even any in a region to get it. Then people just makes the easiest one and it becomes pointless.

But if jumping puzzles are part of the ‘bounties’ that count towards the Map Reward bounties that we may be getting in the future, that’ll be nice.

You want those Corrupted Lodestones? Then you complete Shattered Ice Ruins.

I’ll be even better if there was variations of them, like instanced Adventure versions of them with extra stuff like timed challenges or tricky enemies with unique mechanics you have to figure out.

“We like people who exploit the bugs and issues content have, so they get to keep any rewards of any kind they got from them. We also prefer that players stick to a single set of builds instead having variety”.

Only adjusting the scaling so killing a foe with 5 players doesn’t take 10 more times than when going solo will convince me the contrary.

Maybe resetting the title too, so those who exploited the tricks don’t get to keep it.

A money sink is fine and dandy for something constantly available all year round.
It’s also fine for something we are sure will come back sometime in the future.

But for things that will be available only during a festival and then be gone for ever, and ever and EVER, randomness, luck and requiring amounts of gold higher than a newbie can get in about half the duration of the event is not ok.

Achievements and festival content solely based on dosh or luck are just unfun and unfair for anyone but the ones able to get them.

Festivals should be fun for all, ALL of the festival, from dust to glitter.

They are a ragtag bunch because they got together by chance. That’s just how it is. There was no plan on making some guild or something until they realized they had been fighting together.

It’s like when you are exploring a map and without noticing end up making 6 hearts and 4 events with the same 4 people around, and end up joining in a party and doing a dungeon and all.

Also, with these inexperienced kids it’s like you are the level 80 guy with 20K AP and they are the kids you met in a lowbie area and help learn the ropes.

That’s why are “the boss”. You coud not be “the boss” if you got some famous big shots in the party.

I’ll probably try to get at least 5. But I will eventually get them all, if there’s more personal story hiatuses like this one giving me time to actually do the things I want to do, or the next season doesn’t have as many grindfest skilless farmodromes that require you to stick there endlessly if you are to have even a chance to get one of the unique rewards that are unlikely to ever come back.

Any recipe know by any character would appear there, but those with this new color would be recipes know by another character, but not this one.

If the recipe is discoverable, you just read the ingredients in the tooltip and discover it again, unlocking it for this character.
If not, the name of the source of the recipe would appear instead the ingredients to discover it, like: “Obtained from <NPC name>”. Then you’ll have to get it again from whenever heart NPC or trader or whatever that provides it.

I’m surprised so many people uproar against this.

I would like to point out that it was the same with Wintersday Snowball Mayhem and Halloween Lunatic Inquisition, only then it was called “infinite achievments” and not bunched together in 1. Not many seemed to care back then, I guess it’s the wording?

150 Mayhems were unreal,
so was 80 Inquises,
so is 100 interrupts – or maybe it’s not, but seeing as we have gotten no info on how long the event lasts for some odd reason, and the sane assumption is 2 weeks, it seems so.

They were not that unreal. Wintersday lasted a long time, so there was time to do them if you forfeited other stuff.

But here’s the thing. They were unconditional. You participated in the match, you get progress. And every 30 matches, you got a loot bag.

With this one, what we get is people ignoring the game just for kicks, and after all that trouble only 3 measly envelopes and 5AP, just so they can avoid the nagging sensation of having unfinished temporary achievements, like a splinter in the back of your brain.

Here temporary being the key word. Either you do them now, or you may never do them. Who knows if next year they’ll have some other activity or bring different achievements?

So, if you are not willing to accept any made-up nonsense that won’t fit the setting of the game even in a fractal and expect people to actually roleplay within the setting of the game, some of them won’t be very happy about having you around.

There should be nodes for that. Map bonus rewards and salvageable drops from wild animals are not enough.

All over the world are tons of enemy camps. In those camps, guarded by at least one veteran, there should be two new nodes: Cloth Racks and Stacks of Pelts.

After clearing the camp, these nodes would become available, and using them would give some cloth or leather of the tier corresponding to that area, and sometimes pigments, hidden caches and other stuff if you are lucky.

1-5 seconds of stability may not be perfect, but with a little luck you may get the 4s from the Elixir S utility and make CCs useless for a while, as warriors have absolutely no way to remove boons.

On the other hand, engineers can bring massive condition spam.
I’m talking fire-and-forget plain dumb pew-pew-pew conditions that you can keep up constantly. Long burnings, stacks of over 7 bleed, really long poisons, confusion, sillyness from bombs and grenades…
It’s incredible they didn’t gave them Torment too.
It was expecting them to get it in some way, like the sequence skill from the net turret, replacing part of the damage or even replacing the immobilize.

Gw2 has the best mmo engine ever designed..

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MithranArkanere.8957

MithranArkanere.8957

Not even close.

Cryptic’s Engine has the best settings.
GW2’s options are pathetic to say the least.
You can’t save graphics presets or automatically switch settings depending on game mode, you can’t switch off many settings. You can’t customize the UI. You can’t set custom control presets…
With Cryptic’s engine, you can turn of and tone down the settings so much that their games run in computers 15 years old. And you can set the controls to play with a combination of whatever input devices you want, and comes with presets for XBox controllers. And you can customize the position and size of the UI so much that you could see the interfaces of two different players without realizing it’s the same game.

Blizzard’s has the best performance. Those guys have the moneys for that. Their games can be set at high settings in older machines.
GW2’s engine can’t even properly use the GPU and overuses the CPU.

GW2 looks great thanks to the artists and their use of visual trickery, not thanks to the client’s engine.

The genius behind GW and GW2 is the background, server-side. What’s in the servers, not the client. The virtual server system will allow to keep the game alive even if there’s a greatly reduced playerbase. Only 10 players left? Get a calculator, power it with a potato battery, and put the servers running there. And it’ll probably work.

all the loot nerfs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MithranArkanere.8957

MithranArkanere.8957

We need a trading nerf to compensate.

If all easy and quick money making schemes get fixed, then everyone has more or less the same coin.

Still, market speculators have insane amounts of gold, which they use – or so they brag about – to buy entire stocks of items and resell them at obscenely high prices, when they know people will demand them, like a certain rune that can’t be crafted or a certain miniature with limited availability.

As a result, you get lots of people making reasonable amounts of coin, coin which they end up using to pay for the insane prices set by the market manipulators, and lots of coin gets redirected to them, making them even richer over time, and the rest even poorer, as their reasonable amounts of coin is worth less and less in contrast with prices set by those able to buyout entire stocks.

This is solved with a very simple cooldown on reselling what you bought, with would prevent entire stock purchases to resell right away, without affecting normal trade and sell.

Once that is in place, reselling would only work over longer periods of time which requires more strategy and planning, and those cases of excessive prices will slowly go down. That way speculation is still possible, but it’s not something that can be done in excess almost exclusively by those that exploited quick money making schemes when they were available and have amassed too much capital.

——

Also, the game depends too much in the trading post. Getting things by yourself can take ages.

There has to be alternate sources for some materials that have too few soruces. For example, while one can gather wood and metal, and many animals drop salvageable items that produce decent amounts of leather, cloth is much harder to come by. For cloth and some other materials a fourth kind of node should be added: Locked chests.

They would be scattered in maps and give always at least cloth and some leather and sometimes fine and even rare materials with some luck, and require a lockpick gathering tool to open. While chest at the end of jumping puzzles and guild puzzles would remain open, some of the existing chests in the world would be turned into Big closed chests (e.g. a chest in a cave guarded by veterans), that like “rich” nodes have more basic materials and a bit higher chances for fine and rare, but can only be used once a day. Each map should get at least 1 ‘rich’ locked chest in a fixed location. And 2 in random ones.

Some group events should also make available once-a-day nodes on success. A tree-heart or nightmare court champion would drop a 3-use thick sapling node or a little herb farm of 3 1-use nodes, an event against elementals or steam creatures may reveal a rich metal node at the end, while a “racial faction” group event with a node reward would probably have a chest.

That would compensate with poor luck with drops. If you only got junk from all enemies in the event, at least you have the node.

Warrior is still trash,

in PvP

Posted by: MithranArkanere.8957

MithranArkanere.8957

Warriors have plenty of condition removal, but the fact that they can be re-applied instantly makes that pointless.

I still think we need to change condition removal, boon removal and stun breakers to give very short unrenmovable immunities.

Remember the gray condition icons seen on creatures with a breakbar? That same visual could be used for this.

You remove Regeneration from the enemy, get get anti-Regeneration for 2 seconds, that looks like regeneration but graysacale instead yellow. You remove Burning from an ally, they get anti-Burning for 2 seconds.

You break stun, even if you don’t have stability you get a “Stunbreak” effect that makes you immune to hard CC for 1 second or half a second.

With something like this removal would be meaningful. They put blindness on you and you have a condition removal? If you have good reflexes you stop your attack and use a condition removal instead. Ding. Get anti-Blind for 2 seconds. 2 entire seconds of hitting the enemy without being blinded.

Why there should be a dps meter

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MithranArkanere.8957

MithranArkanere.8957

GW2 is highly based on action.

That is, PLAYER action. If you dodge, is because you dodged. If you hit an enemy, it’s because you directed the attack properly.

A game like WoW, or Diablo, or Path o Exile can have meters for that sort of thing, as you can’t activate skills while moving, and ‘evade’ is something calculated.

The only good way to measure the effectiveness of a build in GW2’s PvE is time. How much does it take to solo Luspicus with that build? How long does it take to complete each dungeon path?

As for WvW and PvP, the measurement is victory. A build or team that wins way more than 50% of the time against the same number of enemies regardless of who is using it is one that works too well and is to be nerfed.

Weird Ele Nuke Move

in PvP

Posted by: MithranArkanere.8957

MithranArkanere.8957

That’s an bad elementalist exploiting the lack of autobalance measures for damage that would prevent broken builds from taking more than 3 seconds to defeat other player single-handedly.

That particular build can take out a heavy armored character in less than 1 second.

What you saw that looked like a jump is a bug that makes animations start when you see a player coming from stealth, instead starting in he actual frame the animation is in.
It’s the same reason why you will see players starting a Finishing move right when stealth runs out but finish way before the animation ends, because they are actually almost finished under stealth, but the animation in your client started when Stealth ran out.

The elementalist looked like leaping, but that wasn’t what really happened. He just got revealed after the teleport, the game didn’t know how to animate that properly, and the result looked like a leap.

This kind of player is well aware of such bugs and flaws, and they will exploit it as much as they can. They will also mock and dismiss anyone denouncing such behavior hoping the bugs won’t be acknowledged and fixed, then go to the forums to cry and post silly “I quit” posts when the fixes are finally done.

Much like GW1’s districts.

- Account bound items require constantly switching them in the bank instead being account unlocks that each character can get on their own as they should have been and must be.
- Extra inventory bag slots cost full price every time, no matter how many you bought or how many characters you have. If you delete a character that had slots, they are not returned, they are lost.
- There’s no reduction in costs for skills already obtained by other characters, and no way to unlock them cheaper like in GW1. Yeah, you an gather skill scrolls, but that’s beyond the point. If you already got the skill points for a 30 point skill with one warrior, all other warriors should not have do exactly the same. The cost should be reduced to 5 or 6 points for the others in PvE, and there should be no cost in PvP: One character unlocks a skill for a profession, all characters of that profession have it.
- There’s no way to know if a character has completed a story path of a dungeon other than walking to each door with each character and reading the panel.

And the alt-unfriendly annoyances keep piling up. So it’s not just one or two little things. Enough grains of sand make a desert. And deserts are nothing small.

The more character slots you have, the less you will enjoy each one because of all these things piling up.

For your specific problem, a new tab in the bank should be added from which you can get ascended equipment you have already acquired for free or at least a reduced price, like a token you can craft with materials such as vision crystals and dark matter.

I’ll be happy enough if they had an “arrow bar” to their left. Click the bar, they slide and collapse to the right, leaving only the bar. Click the bar again so they slide back in position.

Racial Skins for Necro minions and Engineer Turrets

This would be actually something quite nice.

The Gem Store could have a a series of alternate skills that can be equipped instead the originals, but not along them, that give racial touches to the professions, but can’t be used in sPvP.

I always found kind of strange how asura turrets look the same as other race’s instead like other asura devices and structures.

Leveling an alt is so much more tedious now

The first time a trait is unlocked by a profession in the account, the price in the trainers should be reduced greatly. Something like 2.5 silver+1 skill point, 10 silver+2 skillpoints and and 30 silver+3 skillpoints.
And they should become unlocked for PvP for the entire account for no additional cost.

For example: do everything with a ranger, all other rangers have everything in PvP, and they have it cheaper in trainers for PvE/WvW.

So doing everything once with each profession would unlock everything in PvP, and greatly reduce the costs in trainers for any other character, until a new profession is added. Then you have to do everything with that one profession once again to get the PvP unlock and the cheaper training for that profession.

Something similar happened in GW1, in which once you had all skills of a profession unlocked, the other professions had a much easier time to get them in PvE, and PvP characters and heroes had them unlocked for no additional cost.

You still could go do the quests to get them for free again if you wanted to, but you didn’t have to spend another small fortune after you bought them all in the last trainer of each campaign, nor spend as much time as when you did all quests once.

The full array of non-combat clothes seen on NPCs should be available for their race in some merchants and as recipes for a tailor.

Gliding and Territories in WvW

in WvW

Perfect. Just what I wanted. Territories marked in the map, and gliding.

Specially Territories. There’s tons of cool stuff that can be done to improve WvW when we have territories clearly delimited. Like making Outnumbered work per Territory, and what seems to be already in place to an extent: Making Objective Auras work within the entire territory.

And remember, gliding ONLY works in your own territory. Don’t like enemies gliding? Take over the territory. I hope the test works well. I can’t wait to shoot off some ducks out of the air. That will be fun.

So it seems this djinn lamp I found actually works! Just look at that. I wish for 2 things, and there it goes.

If gliding actually stays, next I’m going to wish for a test for mounts to work without controlled Territories.

If that works, I’m then I’m going to wish for Shrines to be added to alpine so we can unlock jump pads to travel faster between the camps at the north and the sides when all 3 are controlled.

And after that, time to wish for a third borderlands map with a theme inspired in Cantha, with the Citadel being inspired by the City of Kaineng, the east keep being in a lake, inspired by the Jade sea; and the west keep at the top of a cope of giant petrified trees, inspired by Echovald.

Yeah. An in-game world-wide mail should have been sent inviting players to the festivities in LA.

If that was possible, the should do it in future events.

Thief Specialization Speculation

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

MithranArkanere.8957

I want a hitman who uses their rifle like different weapons in some third person games involving shooting (e.g.: Hitman, Max Payne, etc). With at least one slow activation skill that can be used to snipe key targets from the battlements in WvW.

It’ll have to have have downsides so it can’t be used along stealth very well to deal lots of single target damage from a distance and instantly move in cloaked to finish the target.

For example:

  1. Precise Shot. 1200 range autoattack.
    • Bump fire: Sneak attack: A short burst of bullets that deals vulnerability an crippled, but little damage.
  2. Spray & Pray: Sprays a low-accuracy 1200 range fan of bullets that can be used as cover fire.
  3. Bullet Time: Evasive action that fires at 900 range while dodging backwards.
  4. Sawed-Off: 600 range and decent damage. Knocks enemies back if they are closer than 300 units, and launches them if they closer than 150.
  5. Snipe: Deals heavy damage at over 1500 units. The attack is charged, moving cancels activation, and takes initiative as it charges. Each charge phase takes 1 second.
    • First stage consumes 3 initiative. Deals moderate damage at 900 range.
    • Second stage consumes 6 initiative. Deals decent damage at 1200 range.
    • Third stage consumes all remaining initiative and prevents regeneration as it charges. Deals high damage at 1500 range.

Maybe even getting a long forced Revealed when the sniping skill hits.
It’s not as if all thief builds are supposed go with the Shadow Arts theme and work well with stealth . There can be some builds that are more on the Acrobatics theme and rely on evades (eg. Using a staff like a quarterstaff with evades and jumps and such) and others that are that and rely on mobility and keeping the distance for defense.

Or maybe even changing their initiative mechanic so their skills get recharges, but F1-F4 now spend initiative to speed up recharges of the 2-5 skills instead.

Even if thieves do not get that specialization now, I will want it later on when they add more.

Feedback/Questions: The Wardrobe System

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MithranArkanere.8957

MithranArkanere.8957

It’s not a rental system.

But it’s not an unlocking system either. It’s a catalog collection system, in which they sell you one-time use items. Like a paper tuxedo that melts and disappears when you take it off to wash it.

You don’t pay for the skins, you pay to keep the skins when the source is gone, then continuously pay to use the skins you have in your collected catalogs.

If you don’t get the skin in your catalog when it’s available, you won’t have it when they remove access to it.

If you get access to it, you can never really buy it, you have to pay each time to apply it.

AR achievements

in Sky Pirates of Tyria

Posted by: MithranArkanere.8957

MithranArkanere.8957

1. Those going for a particular last achievement leave. Because the dungeon is time-consuming. So thy have to find another team.
2. Those who do not understand achievement descriptions do the opposite of what they are supposed to do. For example, to remove Mai’s shield, players must lure her into Horrik’s electric fields. Instead, thinking those fields are the AoEs they have to avoid, people move as far away as possible, triggering the surekill projectile Mai uses on those reviving or far away. Of course, they won’t dodge the thing, so they get killed, and the rest of the party goes after them.
Seeing people die all over the place and wasting their time, time hey could be using to try the achievements again, people leave.
3. Lots of pople is asking for experienced players and claiming to be experienced, but once inside they get killed in no time.

You can’t control what others do. Way too often they won’t even read the chat. With a fractal or a dungeon, you can just come back later.
But with this, its NOW OR NEVER.

All comes down to time.
This dungeon and these achievements can be time-consuming. But they have an expiration date.

This puts a pressure and stress on those who keep getting bad pugs and builds up a bad atmosphere with the dungeon.
