If you ask me the champ train in Queensdale gives new players a bad introduction to the game and how us current players play it and about how this game should be played………

When I’m in Queensdale I like to help new players. I go there often just to do so. I’ve seen some new players in the zerg train asking questions about where to go next and what not. I offer to show them the routes and WPs as this was the information they were seeking. After I show them then I generally say something like, “So, have you gotten the skill point in the swamp yet?” or “Have you done any jump puzzles yet?” Then I borrow them from the zerg and show them around a bit more outside the champion circle. The response has generally been favorable.

Well that’s all good and all but you know this could have been done and even was before the champ rewards came along. I used to go there and throw my commander tag up and offer to take anyone wanting to right through all the chest locations to and through to the end of the JP.

My point about these champ trains is these new players get into the game and the first thing they see is a bunch of players running around in an endless circle for shinies ignoring the rest of the game content.

What’s worse is you get people yelling at each other and arguing not to kill this or that champ yet because the rest of the zerg is not there. Heaven forbid some new player starts one off by accident and then gets yelled at by everyone else in the map.

I don’t know, I know champs needed a boost to their rewards but perhaps it should have been done at the same time as event rewards?

Bad idea, all you would be doing is punishing those who buy often or spend a lot on the TP. Waypoint costs are cheap, heck it only takes and event or 3 at most to cover any waypoint cost.

Don’t forget people are going to have to pay for new traits if they don’t want to work for them so any extra taxes would be just MORE or a burden for some people.

All I can say is:

1 – You can block chat rather than hope for a system that “allows you to kick people out of the game”.

2 – Hate the game or the way it’s made not the players….ask why some of these achievements are put into the game when Anet should surely know it will cause issues like this.

3 – Despite their best efforts griefing exists in this game – via any new minigame that comes in when players can simply do the BEST that they can to ANNOY other players and stop them from earning certain achievements. They can then turn around and simply say “Anet want’s us to play this game this way!”

This game is not dying and wont be any time soon. If anything it is only just beginning to take off imo. This game as well as the genre is going through a transformation atm and this game is one of the ones at the fore front of that. Yes gone may be the days of gear grinds, expensive subs and spending massive amounts of time in these types of goals to achieve very little in the long run (if you truly look at how those games used to work and what you got for all the effort put in).

Sure the game might be aimed more at “casual” players or so some say. I like to think it aims for all players and is more like wanting casual play. Yet at the same time you still CAN spend lots of time here doing things. But the way it’s designed is to be more fun rather than grind or “you must do this first before you can get to the fun stuff”. Is this really a bad thing?

If you have run out of things to do try a different game for a bit or do something totally different for a while. I really don’t know why people seem to act like they can’t function, live life or whatever because this game or any other can’t fill that “babysitter” role. Not to mention that the game is dying because of this.

I hope I didn’t sound rude there, I didn’t mean too. :P

Perhaps this game needs explorable dungeons?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

Now before you say hold on, wait a minute we already have explorable dungeons! I am not talking about what they call dungeons in this game right now. Which tbh I would rather call “Instanced missions” rather than dungeons that can be explored.

No, no what I mean are NEW MAPS that are open world but just underground. Imagine it a whole new map the size of Queensdale right under Queensdale. A new place to go and kill nasties for a change in scenery and perhaps even challenge. These new maps could tie us over until if/whenever expansions or their replacement updates come that bring in new world areas such as crystal desert etc etc.

Why do I think this could be done in the meantime? Well simply because with a dungeon (remember being a whole new map) they could bring in new things without going too much into detail/lore etc. Think about it if they brought in say Cantha for example there would be a massive amount of NPC’s, cities etc that would come with that which would require a lot of work. A dungeon, all they need to add are new enemies with new mechanics, the physical locations, any new rewards and possibly a little bit of lore and bang – new map done.

Something perhaps those of us wanting to explore more can do and even have fun while doing so. Perhaps a place where you go because you WANT to kill critters for various reasons not because you are running somewhere and are just killing them on the way. There could be perhaps whole new mining areas and such as examples. Heck even make some parts of them only reachable via people having to mine the way there in the first place! Example you could have to destroy parts of the actual cave by mining and you could need many players covering a large area doing so which could take up to an hour or so. A mini game perhaps so to speak to reach a destination.

It’s just small ideas like this that could add new flavour to the game, while also giving us new maps to play in until those big updates arrive that we are all waiting for.

Opions? Hate or dislike? Have your own ideas? Dsscuss.

I have over 4k hours on my account and have been here since head start. Want to know how many keys I have got from actual drops? 2 Total. How many chests? Probably 5+ stacks.

I expect to get just as many keys as I have in the past from actual drops. Nothing will change here except we will get a TON more chests and it wont even be worth selling them again.

I think this game just became slightly more lottery to win perhaps? I agree with whoever it was who said if they want to sell keys more often to either lower their cost or make the rewards more worthwhile.

Fix Black Lion Chests / BL Tickets

The never said it key farming was fine, they simply allowed it. Big difference.

When asked if you could get into trouble key farming, the answer was no.

When asked if the NPE PS move to level 10 was to nerf key farming the answer was no.

That doesn’t mean they supported it. They simply didn’t have the data that allowed them to set a limit and know if that limit would affect a player playing “normally”. Now obviously they do and like DR, and dungeon and world boss chests they are setting a limit to discourage a form of game play they never wanted players to focus on.

I can understand and accept this. But we are obviously dealing with 2 issues here. It’s not only the key farming and the option to be able do it or not. It’s also the issue of the BLTC chests, how they work and what you get from them.

Obviously being that people were able to do the key farming they could somewhat look away or ignore the terrible mess that the BLTC chest/key system is. Now that option is taken away, yes people are going to look at the system again, grumble and straight out make some noise over it. Anet are going to have to address both issues here and not just 1 if they expect to come out of this with any great deal of happy players.

Please don't nerf anything else

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

I don’t agree with you, OP. I want my legendaries the moment I buy and log into the game. All of them. I also want to have 999,999 gold on every character. Why bother grinding all that stuff? This isn’t Grind Wars 2… Just give that to us ANET.

There are so many Drama Queens of Hyperbole running around today…

It’s true though. If they complain about 10 hours of grind for those hero points, how long before they complain about not having a ascended item within the 3rd week of playing?? How long before they start complaining about not having a legendary precursor for 20 pristine fractal relics?

I mean seriously, complaining about those hero points are like buying the game and saying “hmm why am I not lvl 80 yet? it’s been a good 12 seconds.”

Sad reality is that if ANET does cater to every whim of the vocal minority, the game might really get nerfed a whole lot more.

I don’t agree here simply because people always knew that legendary and even ascended items would take a lot of time and effort. This was never misrepresented by Anet at all.

However when you look at new Elites which are sort of a watered down version of new classes of course people would expect to be able to have access to them right off the bat or with far less work required. There are 2 points that I would say gave this impression to players:

1 – Gw1 players (as well as other games who in time got new classes through exspanions or what not) got to play with new classes straight away with new expansions. Sure they did not have access to all of the skills as some were locked away behind Skill Points or challenges. But the class in general could be played with 100% of the core mechanics in place.

2 – The Betas. See the update notes on this and Anet’s view on it. Basically they never told us the amount of effort that would be required or what not. So it was assumed that with the expansion these would be a main feature to actually be able to play the bulk of the content in HOT with. Not the opposite which actually was – this is the bulk of the content or the reward for doing the bulk of the content.

Summary, another snafu on Anet’s part in communication and I guess you could say advertising of HOT. And a pretty big one at that thus the fix they are doing today. They really do need to polish this sort of thing for future. Not saying that to be rude or anything as I think they are a great company and the game is great. But not all things can be foreseen of course especially when you are working hard to bring the content out and are so excited to be able to finally release it to the players. Just have to cross those T’s and dot those I’s more is all. :P

This is not being about Casuals vs Hardcore’s or people being too lazy/useless to be able to put the work in. This is a PR/communications issue just like the pre-ording issue we had.

fishing in game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

Personally, I have been in mmo’s that involve fishing. it is a nice addition to the games, but somehow doesnt fit into the gw2 universe.

May I ask you why you want to be able to fish??

Some games attach achievements to it. Given the boring way those achievements are often done, that is a no no for me. I’m actually glad that GW2 dropped the more boring achievement in the meta compared to gw1 (many are still there but just less rewarding).

For others it is loot. But as said, the activity is boring and shouldn’t be very rewarding if implemented.

The final reason from my experience would be fishing just to be able too. if implemented it should need a small reward (e.g. 5 achievement points for catching 15 different kinds of fish and 5 more if you caught a total of 500 fish). This I would have no objection too, but I’m afraid that it wouldnt make fishing very popular. So in my opinion its best to let fishing exist in other games.

For some people skills such as fishing in games is a good way to wind down and relax while also feeling like you are progressing something, somewhere, some how. I have said it before on occasions that this game is too heavily revolved around combat. Why not other activities for fun or just to relax a bit? It also gives a sense of immersion since we already see npcs fishing here and there and gives a feel to the world that you are actually part of it. Personally I would also like having a “job” or career and such to have as past times too but that’s me and I wont go there with that topic yet lol.

Ps don’t try and bring the argument with the current mini games as a way to wind down. They are all fast, heated sit on your edge style gameplay as well just as combat, WvW, Spvp is. I know you would mean well but yeah, you know what I mean lol.

Maybe because at the end of it all no matter how dark or serious the storyline could be we all just KNOW it’s a game and that we WILL defeat the bad guys so why even try and make it too serious? Also at times when companies do try and make things more serious than they should they then get bad rep for doing so and get told to lighten up a bit. It’s the old saying you can’t please everyone all the time I guess.

I also guess they want to be seen as a fun company giving us fun content. Is that such a bad thing?

My opinion is there’s pros and cons to this new system, if only they could find some middle ground between the old and new systems….

You know like letting us take 2 Majors if we want instead of being stuck with a grand master trait if we don’t really like the effects of them for that trait line. Perhaps those grand masters just need more looking at. O.O

Dev Blog: Changes to Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paulytnz.7619

I love the idea of horizontal progression unlocked by actually doing content in the game world…I love that it will be easy for them to add a greater variety of traits for players to choose from. This system is definitely a step in the right direction.

This isn’t really horizontal progression, though. It’s more of a horizontal digression. It’s taking an existing feature of the game’s vertical progression, and locking it behind a barrier that you have to overcome or bypass. Outside of those Grandmaster traits (which you can’t see until level 80), there’s nothing actually new here.

Maybe there’s an appeal to that that I just don’t get. So many people seem happy with the idea, and I don’t see why.

Giving people more to do at max level is never a bad thing. When there’s already a ton to do, but no real incentive to do it…adding incentive is a good idea. Giving people more variety in experiences, and more variety in build choices is good. Making a system which allows for the easy addition of even more variety in the future…even better.

It’s a game. Playing it isn’t a “barrier”… it’s the whole point.

The old system required you to pay 10 gold to get your grandmaster major and minor traits. This new system allows you the choice of paying gold for the traits, or doing content. It’s better all the way around.

If this was simply unlocking new traits/lines via killing x boss or doing x content yes I would agree with you. But that simply isn’t the case. This is going to make things slightly harder for lower lvls in my experience/opinion. They will simply NOT have that extra healing from a trait at lvl 60 now, or extra stealth for x amount of time now until the very end – lvl 80.

Tbh I am wondering if this is all in aid of a possible incoming increase to lvl cap, that would certainly explain some of this..

Just a tip if you are worried about details and such, something that might be helpful. Personally I use a prepaid credit card for online purchases. That is it is a credit card (Mastercard, Visa etc) like the standard ones but you only have credit on it when you put it on it. So I make sure to only have cash on it when I want to purchase something. If there is no cash on it, any purchase attempt will be shot down and you are not out of pocket due to hackers or what-not.

I am not sure if your banks offer similar options but it is def worth looking into. Things like this can give you an extra layer of protection and stop things like what the OP experienced from happening.

Yes Anet were awesome enough to refund what was spent. But there are a lot of other companies out there that are not so awesome or who wouldn’t refund. So again having something like this can be helpful.

Sorry to say but if you can’t beat someone who is using heals/regens then YOU might have to play with YOUR class/builds to see what other options you have. Perhaps YOU have to play more of a survival build and adapt to be able to wear your opponent down as well.

Also poison is a anti healing/regen counter, find it for YOUR class!

I guess I just don’t get it. I never saw the fun in grinding or tricking the ai to win(which seems to be all that gw is in pve), but it sounds like this is how people want guild wars. Maybe i’ll get lucky and they will make wvw fun again.

Notice the part I put in bold there? It is PVE we want and are doing. What you are wanting and asking for is PVP inside of PVE.

There is plenty more to do than run dungeons and grind. Have you done all the jps, world complete and mini dungeons? There is living story and the list goes on. I don’t grind and I don’t run dungeons and yet there’s things for me to work on. There are achievements. It seems you are just a pvper who just does not want to do the pvp that we have here so I don’t know what to say to you…..

Old weapons for Different classes

Engineer:

Mace. It’s pretty common knowledge that any weapon that comes for Engi will be a melee one. The most obvious choice to me right now seems to be the mace. It just suits us (I main an Engi). Tbh what I want this to bring to the table would be expertise in destroying siege and non moving (alive) targets such as dredge cannons etc.

You forgot hammer

Baby steps man, that can also come in time lol. Feel free to post your ideas for the hammer. What I did forget to put down was mace also as an offhand weapon. We Engi’s need more choices for off hands so the mace again can also be another choice there.

New Transmute Costs Bad for Leveling Players

Edit – re-read op.

What they should do is charge level 1-79 players 1 charge for every 3 pieces of gear that has their skin changed. I don’t know if they overlooked this, didn’t tell us in full how this will work or tried to pull a swift one over us (which I doubt) but all in all this would be the fair thing to do.

So the problem is you can’t complete WvW because the enemy always outnumbers you? If this is the case give it time your world will be put into an appropriate lvl tier for wvw for even battles.

Character Slots too expensive now?

It also does not have to cost $10 per char slot if you use in game currency. I have done this myself so you could say they are free!

Nothing is free.

Most people forget most people could earn more money out of game than gold in game in a given time. Time equates to potential money earning, so the slots still wouldn’t be free.

Then it would be nice if they had slots on reduced price for a limited time every so often.

If anything is overpriced it’s the bank tabs and bag slots, however these are not necessary if you keep the amount of equipment to a minimum.

Yes but if you are having FUN in game while earning that gold why not just use it if you have nothing else to do with it?

Sure you could work extra hours etc, but really is that as much fun as playing? :P

Reporting players in pvp game crashes

have fun with your report tool. in neart future u will realize ur the reason for the small playerbase

So you call people who quit matches, afk or generally sell wins to other teams players? Yeah no ty I would rather they were gone.

Real players can actually stop playing pvp BECAUSE there are such players as these so it could be argued the small playerbase is because of all the bad apples. Either way I know which I would prefer on my team and the enemy team for that matter.

So and once you finally have this item then what? You will go back to months without logging in again? I mean really, if you are not even playing to be able to get the item will having it make you play any more?

I just don’t get it lol….

PS – You don’t have to “play mmo all day” you only need to log in and check the gem store for 5 secs each day, not too hard to do….

No. You start off with 5 char slots so start using those extra ones. Too much work for Anet to do and with possible too many issues arising from it. Don’t expect Anet to do all the work for you – reroll!
