I’ve actually got a couple looks that fall into this category. They’re all on GW2 Style so you can make them yourselves if you are interested in the looks. Shameless plug I know Both of the Asura are themed within GW2’s “magitech” scheme.

Asura Engineer
Asura Thief

My Guardian is actually one I have not seen a similar look for before I posted. He’s themed in a “post apocalyptic” scheme. The idea was to mix worn and old looking armor pieces with newer and more futuristic looking pieces to create the effect that these pieces were found or upgraded over time.

Ascalonian Catacombs is too hard now I think

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Saint.5647

It isn’t right to ignore this process. The right answer is to help players learn the mechanics of the fight if they are having difficulty.

That’s what I liked about Molten Facility. You encounter the shockwaves early on, and learn the timing of jumping over them. This makes the Molten Duo at the end of the dungeon less frustrating, because you’re being confronted with familiar mechanics at a higher difficulty.

Well done. I enjoyed that one a lot. I think a lot of folks did. However, as far as I’m aware of, that encounter added a new mechanic (shockwaves) so they really had to teach it. If you recall, they didn’t teach the enraged mechanics. That was something players had to figure out.

I think when it comes to dungeons there is a certain level of trial and error that is acceptable.

No one knew when the game first came out how useful reflects were. I remember scrambling to dodge all of Lupi’s AoEs. Isolating a particular problem and working on a solution for your team is part of the learning process.

I agree. But I do think it’s the responsibility of the designers to drop enough clues to help players figure out this problem. And in some cases, they kind of dropped the ball in that regard.

I think the difficulty of most dungeons is directly related to the number of unfair mechanics in them, rather than challenging content. Like for example how all archers in CM suddenly are rooted to the ground and can’t be CC’d, with no reason given, yet they deal pretty devastating damage. Or that annoying dog-boss (who is optional btw) who takes forever to kill because he has more HP than anything else in the dungeon, and spams fear constantly. That sort of stuff really tends to rub a lot of players the wrong way I think. Dungeons should be consistent in their mechanics, and should communicate them clearly to the players.

Right. I agree they really did drop the ball hard. The trouble is that those players did not learn these mechanics before entering dungeons. The game’s ‘core’ dungeons introduce no new mechanics as far as I am aware. Conditions, AoEs, etc…these are all already in the game.

The main point of contention is who’s responsibility it was to make sure players understood the content. I don’t think Anet did a good job at teaching players the basics of the game. That said, many folks picked it up as they went. I don’t agree with lowering the difficulty of (what I consider to be) very easy content.

I do however strongly believe that the ’Hero of Shaemoor* (or equivalent) section should include a skip-able tutorial like in Nightfall where players could chose the tutorial route for the first quest/mission or the regular one. Here players would be prompted to dodge attacks, cleanse conditions, interact with combo fields, etc…

Over the last few days, I’ve managed to read through every post here so far. A lot of interesting ideas and criticism, much of which is echoed very strongly by the majority of the posters here.

So, GW2 players (on this forum) really want to see the waiving of the “2 week release” policy in favor of a more “it’s ready when it’s ready” approach. Another strong point I saw was a push for the inclusion of an IN GAME lore vehicle. Players also want achievements to be either more meaningful, or at least less grind-y. Of course there is the issue of Scarlet Briar as well…

I’m going to go another direction with this. Many of you have hit great points and I won’t try to re-state them. I want to talk about the ToN LS patch and all the things it DID RIGHT!

I was poised, POISED to hate this LS patch before it even came out. I saw the purple nightmare vines and thought…“Oh no! Another alliance. When will Scarlet leave my game?” However, ToN surprised me in a few ways.
-The mini/instance intro to ToN and the characters: This was great. GW1 players will love this style of cinematic if it continues and expands past this little experiment. This was just enough exposition get me curious about ToN and Kessex hills. It introduces characters and what we’re doing there.
-The instance AND the NPCs in Kessex: This is huge! We might still hate Scarlet, sure…but there are now NPCs delivering Lore in game to those that care for this sort of thing. I think this is going to please a lot of players. Please expand on this. We get a nice setup for what we’re doing in Kessex from the little instance when you zone, and then the NPCs give more info about the Krait, the NC, Scarlet, etc… (it was cool finding out that this was just a splinter of the NC that would consider allying and not destroying the Krait)
-Story Pacing: I hope this is no coincidence; the pacing has slowed down considerably. I love that we’re going back to how F&F was handled. A slow story progression that can move forward every 2 weeks (or however long is needed for the content).

However I do hope that the grind aspect of LS can be reduced. It actually hurts the game in my opinion. So what if there “isn’t enough to do in LS”? There isn’t enough to do in PS either. The idea is that you progress the story and then can go back to dungeons, WvW, fractals, etc… Right now, a HUGE chunk of players are doing zerg trains to grind in LS content instead of fractals and dungeons.

I think enough players have hit the Scarlet point. Anet knows and hopefully they are wrapping that up. ToN is a step in the right direction though. Hopefully we can see more content develop along these lines.

Best.

Next Elder Dragons fights same as Marionette?

No way. Now a large scale instance, I would be very much in favor of. Think an OF size, 150-200 man instance to take down an elder dragon.

That would be great. You can take who you want. You don’t have to worry about losing your spot on a DC. Guilds and friends can coordinate skills and strategize. This way, they can make these events really, really challenging and test player skill without handicapping groups with AFKs and terrible players.

Please no more "gold run"/"t4" content?

in Living World

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

One day, while Crown Pavilion was active, my guildies and I were bored. We decided to host a Gold OF.

We did just that. For hours we tagged up and coordinated Gold-Run after Gold-Run.

OP is looking at this the wrong way. As if there are two options; you either get lucky with a Gold OF or you get unlucky in a non-Gold OF. It’s not the case at all and you present yourself as a helpless person devoid any drive.

You have an option of improving the OF you are in and bettering it for yourself and the others around you willing to stick around long enough to make it worth being a part of. Do this, and people will then flock to your OF.

Again your options are not (1) Be Lucky (2) Give up. There is always that option of (3) Fight for what you want. Of course C is harder so many feel content to blame their misfortune on their luck instead of taking some personal responsibility for their situation. No one owes you a Gold OF. The only one who really wants you to have one, is you….so go make it so.

My two cents on GW2 and life. Enjoy.

Subjested boss mechanics, Focused assault

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Saint.5647

Yeah and they could remove our weapons too! Then we can all just heal each other all the time!

No. Unavoidable damage is not fun, it’s not a mechanic, it’s nothing except cheesy. All of these posts boil down to ‘I want to play a healer class’. There is already damage reduction. It’s called protection and there are already classes that bring this when needed. There is also damage reduction in the form of reflects and blocks. They reduce damage to 0. There is also damage reduction in the form of dodging. You can take ANY combination of classes and be successful in an instance.

If unavoidable damage is introduced, then the need for a healer is also introduced. Then the game is limited and requires a dedicated healer to ‘outheal the ticks’. This is a horrible idea.

There are plenty of trinity MMOs out there. This is not one of them. Anet designed a very unique combat system that I enjoy more than the dated MMOs.

Low Damage != Fun

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Let me try another shot for you; yes zerk loses less % of damage, but to repeat, you’re probably not going to lose the encounter either way and non-zerk groups are more likely to be non-optimized and lose less due to the ‘per stack’ nature of the change.

As far as practical effects, zerk groups tend to be dependent on speed to survive because they’re more reliant on active defenses to keep alive. Losing speed hurts zerk groups a lot more because they’re more likely to wipe out if the fight goes long. They’re also (often) more likely to stack, which makes an active defense failure more disasterous.

I think we’ve got a bit right on both accounts here. Point being that encounters will not likely be lost based on the might lost from this nerf.

If history and patterns are any indication of things to come, this nerf will affect most greatly one group; PvE Zerk Tryhards.

This group of players is generally everything that people complain about when they complain about Zerk Meta. They are the folks in DPS gear with a baseline understanding of the encounters who do rely on speed to complete. They waste dodges and spam skills without bothering to learn better rotations. I think these folks will continue to eat kitten with each passing nerf.

These are also the players I run into the most in LFG PuGing. Guild/Friend groups with skill and experience will likely go hardly affected. Non-Zerk players will also not really be affected much either since they hardly relied on their damage output to complete content. It will take them longer but it won’t be noticeably more difficult.

I wanted to bring this up before it devolved into some Meta vs. Non-meta debate with a lot of stored up rage on either side.

How to do dungeons without experience?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Wrath, the community is kinda messed up right now. There’s too much elitism in the LFG, but there’s a way to avoid that. Only join groups that are not zerkers, rush runs, speed runs or anything that seems to be created from an impatient bad-attitude player. Going with newbies will be longer, yet more fun rewarding 90% of the times.

The kitten is strong in this one. Going with newbies is a good way for newbies to learn. It is not more “fun” or more rewarding. In literal terms, it is in no way more rewarding. The fun of it is subjective. See what you like.

You’ll have to start off in newbie groups. Don’t join anything speed run (like our angry friend here said) but also don’t be afraid to aim for them down the line. If you find that you got the gameplay down, have solid gear, and think you could have more fun melting through mobs, by all means start working on speed clears with your guild or team.

People make it seem like ‘having fun’ and ‘speed running’ are mutually exclusive.

Why can't we master the Wardens?

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

It’s not really rangers. It’s just ignorant players that ruin the experience for everyone. Don’t know the encounter? That’s fine. Don’t know the basics of the game? That’s not fine.

There are players who can teach you. There are online guides. There are a lot of in game clues too (like AOE to avoid, boss description under the name, etc…). Some of it does take trial and error but luckily there is a server full of people willing to educate you.

Again, the trouble is the group of ignorant players who don’t care. They want their achievements.

“I want to kill Warden 1 but I don’t want to go behind him”

“I want to kill Warden 2 but I don’t want to kite him”

“I want to kill Warden 3 but I don’t want to dodge his attacks”

…etc…

No, the trouble is not Rangers. I ended up having to 2 man a platform with a Ranger because the 2 Wars and 1 Ele we had were on the floor more than a common rug. We did alright with just the two of us. He (or she I guess), was adaptive and quick. They changed their playstyle the second they realized that rezzing these guys would just have them back on the ground again. This is an example of a smart player, that knows their class, and knows the game.

These are the sorts of players that are fine even if they know nothing about the event when they enter the server. These are the players that can learn.

Stacking has ruined player skill levels

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Well, I think the OP is just making a statement. He/she isn’t asking to remove stacking from the game or anything. To a degree the OP has a point too.

Although many of the PuGs OP is finding in LFG never understood the base mechanics of the game, they get to watch youtube videos of other groups doing dungeon runs. They see a stack spot and think that it’s a ‘magic spot’ where DPS happens. In reality, half the time it couldn’t really matter less. Sometimes PuGs will even stack corners without even LOSing anything. It’s just how it is.

The whole ‘rush and crush’ style is certainly good to make fast cash or trivialize boring bosses but often it is fun to do things a different way. I don’t think it’s even markedly slower either as long as you’re still playing with good people. That’s what I think the OPs point is.

Until they are ready to handle this sort of lore, they had best stay away. It would be a huge slap in the face to GW1 fans to have even more game lore retconned or disregarded just to force in some zergfests and increase gemstore purchases.

Zerker nerfed, allow us to swap asc gear

Saint.5647

This isn’t the be all end all fix to the DPS meta and giving more importance to condition/CC builds in PvE. They have more things coming, Ferocity is just the first step.

I hope it’s the last step as well. You should understand when the first step is to nerf like this, one shudders to think what the next step will be.

It has not in any way given more importance to condi/CC in PvE because they are still just as bad. Zerker is still the most powerful and highest damage. Since they avoided actually fixing the PvE itself, highest DPS is still the way to go. Condi and CC are still unimproved.

They want you to think that because they nerfed zerker, other builds are more viable. Don’t be fooled. If we reduced the height of all people over 6’3" by 3 inches, the people 5’ tall, wouldn’t be any taller. They would still be just as short as ever. The only thing we’ve done is inconvenience the people who were over 6’3".

Saint.5647

I’m certain that if some of the folks here would spend more time thinking about Miku’s post instead of trying to posit theories or tell him how to play, they might find that he has a very valid point about Mesmer mechanics.

He’s not asking for input on how to play the Mesmer but rather for a discussion regarding the LS and Mesmer mechanics. Perhaps the funniest thing has been the fool who linked his own video back to him as if to say L2P.

My take is that in an attempt to make their LS content “cheez” proof, Anet went over the top with AI nullification. If I were to put myself in their shoes and task myself to prevent content from being “cheezed” my first targets would be afk ranging and afk AI. My experience in the game to date has shown that a lot of general players will try to get through content in this manner if they’re unable to beat it through skilled play.

It’s probably some overcorrection for the AI in the Mesmer that’s the problem. Enough people have discussed it to warrant a forum topic. Don’t think the OP is off the mark.

Instanced Raid Content

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Population certainly has something to do with it. Demographics do to though. If you were a core guild of hardcore players and you decided you wanted to tackle some difficult content, who would you want with you?

Players who are willing to listen and learn, players who adapt their builds, players who coordinate?

Or players who don’t care about the team, players who do whatever they want and expect rewards for doing nothing?

It’s not about casual vs hardcore. It’s about lazy and ignorant gamers ruining things for people who care. Don’t know the content? Don’t care to learn it? Then you won’t be carried.

This is why these guilds and servers move players to places where they are more likely to find like minded players. Why endure the nightmare of trying to coordinate a server with more than 40% players (just making up numbers) who don’t care to communicate, rehearse, or even rebuild for the Wurm fight? It’s not fair to the players who are putting in the time (or to the players who don’t have the time but are willing to learn and try).

This is carp because it is about which server you are on. Events that require, or allow, more than 2 or 3 groups become a statistical study on the population.

No…this is a carp.

Do tell me though, what exactly are you trying to say here.

Kind of concerned, anyone else?

in Living World

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Actually Kraits never worked alongside another race before. Scarlet was the first non-krait that they ever worked with.

From official wiki:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Krait

“These intelligent creatures are vicious and xenophobic, attacking and enslaving all other species on sight.

“They believe other, lesser races have nothing to offer them, so the krait never bother to communicate with them. Never beaten, they are convinced that they are blessed and elevated: the superior species in the world. "

Back to topic:

So by lore, it is easier for Scarlet to “sweet talk” the Pact into joining her, than sweet talking the Kraits into joining her.

Read what I just wrote again. Take it in. :P

Why is that? Well the Pact (e.g. me and you) will at least give her 5 minutes to listen to what she have to say. The Kraits will try to enslave Scarlet on sight. That’s how the lore was set up.

So for this part of the story to make any sense, the story writer need to prove that Scarlet have god like “sweet talking” abilities to get the Kraits into joining her.

Problem is, we have never seen this “sweet talking” ability of Scarlet. Every time we see Scarlet she appeared as an insane chick. All her underlings are more serious than her. Aetherblade flat out said they follow her because they are afraid of her (e.g. not sweet talking).

If the writer want to prove that Scarlet is a sweet talker, they have to prove it. And so far, they did zero proving.

As for obelisks, LOL ok think about it. Scarlet stole your obelisk from your old home. Would you work for her? No!!! You will try to kill Scarlet and take the obelisk back from her. Its simple logic.

And Krait themselves were forced out of their old homes by the elder sea dragon. On land, they were attacked by Zhaitan’s risen army. So why would they help Scarlet raise the elder jungle dragon in LA?

Right. It is too convenient. These sorts of Lore breaks to accommodate the plot detract from the value of the story being told. If the story cannot be told within the boundaries of the Lore, perhaps it needs to be rethought and rewritten.

As Chips said, there has been nothing in game to suggest Scarlet is a sweet talker capable of raising such alliances. A character more akin to Frank Underwood would have been more interesting in the game. Someone who could craft alliances and trick factions into working together. Someone who wouldn’t bat an eye at betraying any of them to achieve their own goals.

Perhaps even more interesting would have been Ellen/or Evon (whoever would have won the election) allowing Scarlet to keep pestering the players and causing minor havoc. This would give Ellen (in our case) the grounds and opportunity to build alliances in secret. All to lead to the attack on LA where she uses the ineptitude of the Lionguard and Captain’s Counsel to call for a vote of wartime leadership.

Ellen could thank the player for being integral to her plan and offer him/her a place beside her. The player of course refuses and asks what is to be done about Scarlet. She says that Scarlet was never more than a mad dog let off its chain and a loud distraction to keep Tyria looking in all the wrong places. Players defeat Scarlet, Kiel individually crushes the factions and makes the new, reformed LG look powerful and resolute. She again asks you to reconsider your stance. The player again refuses and she says that she does not forget a favor but she will not ask a third time. The player parts ways and boom. Now you have a new political/military force in LA that isn’t some black and white enemy.

Zerker nerfed, allow us to swap asc gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

You want the hardcore players to use lower damage like others so others won’t die?

That’s exactly what we want.

Tbf hardcore players using less effective gears doesn’t change casuals who die anyway in their gear (regardless of the stats). Nerfing berserker really doesn’t change the effectiveness of soldier armor, it just makes our hardcore dungeon runs a few minutes longer.

There is still going to be a divide between casual and hardcore… So really what they should have done is buff other gear types to make them worth using, specifically condition gears.

Lep, I’d argue that the divide will grow even larger. More steps in this direction will make wounds that can never be healed. If folks were being lax about gear checks before this, you can bet that it will indeed be “zerk or gtfo” without exceptions. We can no longer afford a PVT sneaking in and riding along.

There will also be a lot of anger toward non zerkers by folks as well. Most of which is undeserved I think (since it’s probably an annoying minority on these forums that QQd for this to happen).

Aetherpath broke my heart, mind, and bank

Byron, this thread is about the Aetherpath TA dungeon. How about you read it before you spew the same anti-meta vitriol that surfaces in this sub every couple of days. The OP could benefit from playing in an organized group, not a PuG (as you suggest). The coordination threshold in Aetherpath is higher than most paths in game.

Your bias is showing. Nerfing Guardians is not the answer to class balance. I understand that you’ve probably been kicked may times by trash PuG groups for not being a War or a Guard. There is a lot of community hate towards them for this. Understand though, that while PuGs play with War/Guard parties, it’s for a reason.

Many PuGs lack the coordination, skill, and TEAM BUILDS to be successful with any other comp. War/Guard is a safe bet. This does not mean that they are OP. To the contrary, it’s quite the opposite. A War/Guard party is slow and not worth running for an organized team.

Stability is not broken. Aegis isn’t broken. Reflects are not broken. Blinds are not broken. Without them, the Guard may as well waltz into combat in silk pajamas, ready to be roughly handled. Without them, the Guard brings nothing to the team.

Banners are not broken. They are a part of the Warrior’s offensive buffs.

Joey knows this all as well. Look him up. Put your bias and anger away. There have been many people who have come here to rage. All of them have been wrong. Just chill out, discuss, and educate yourself.

You stack in this corner, you stack in that corner. You just stay there spamming you skills. No tatics, no evading, no movement or any kind of fun mechanics, it isn’t even a fight anymore.

No.

Also, no to everything else you said.

Disaster! one word to describe this update

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

meh

I think I got my hopes up too high after the positive turn in the LS lately. Anyways, I came back from work today already pretty frustrated.

The patch wasn’t ready to go by the time I got home and then it just seemed a bit lackluster. I’m not sure exactly what it is. It’s not too bad as far as zergfests with 20 commanders go.

On the bright side, it’s fairly easy to do what you need to do. On the other hand, it’s 100% pug-roulette with 0 time to coordinate and tag/detag, or establish rapport. It just felt like a pretty solitary experience. Run around pressing 1 to tag for loot.

Instances will Reduce World Event Overflow

in Living World

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

I think we can all agree that the overflow system needs to be reworked in the near future, whether it be a system akin to GW1’s districts or (as suggested) a private overflow for large groups.

However, locking these events in instances would really hurt the casual players. (For the most part) Casuals just turn up at these events, get carried or maybe are invited into groups, possibly a teamspeak server, and can just play.
By instancing this content they have to specifically seek out large groups/guilds to play which for a lot of people is just a hassle.
And this will mean, a raidfinder and instant group invite systems are not far away.

Except that ‘casuals’ (whatever that means) are hurting the players who want to complete this content. The content isn’t tuned for low level stragglers. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard commanders say in map chat “If you are low level or aren’t serious about beating this boss, please consider a map change so that others who want the AP can come in.”

Now, for the record, I loathe this content. I absolutely despise everything about it. So, I say that low level players should swarm to Lornar’s very early and give those Commanders the good ol’ comeuppance they deserve.

You might be the worst sort of person. Based on your comment, that’s the idea I’m getting. Spiteful for the sake of spite.

Commanders are doing this because it’s a frustrating enough event as it is. The comeuppance they deserve? For what? For trying to coordinate a a blob (comprised of probably 30-40% terribad players) to victory?

Without these commanders or skilled players there, trash players would never stand a chance at this content. Not everyone has 4-6 hours to spend here daily.

The fault is with Arena Net for not making content like this instanced. They should stop trying to force us to play with people who are not going to be on board with the conditions for victory. It’s like forcing a basketball team to draft 50% of the team from people that don’t want to practice and will only play with their eyes shut the whole game.

The fact that it’s necessary to kick out low levels and non-contributors means there is something very wrong with these events, not the commanders. It should either be accessible and a joke, like all open world content, or difficult and instanced so that people can properly coordinate and strategize independently.

I don’t want my success in this event to be contingent on a lv 50 first time player who doesn’t know what the dodge roll is.

The bad playerbase

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Well, to really get at that issue we would have to operationalize the word “casual”. Right off-the-bat two contexts come to mind.

1. Time Based
2. Effort Based

Some players play upwards of 5 hours or more a day. Some play less than 1 hour a week. Which is more or less casual? What about a player who spends 5 hours following world boss trains and hasn’t bothered to learn their class or basic class mechanics? What about a player who has 1 hour a week to play but spends it solo-ing champions or speed running as many dungeons as they can in that hour?

The thing about GW2 is that it can be played at a high level, but unlike some other games, it an also be enjoyed at a very low skill level as well.

Perhaps the better delineation would be between players who enjoy critical thinking and problem solving in their gameplay and players who are just looking for a way to shut down and passively enjoy the game to unwind.

How good is 70 percent magic find in gw2?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

No idea. I’m at 240% and I don’t get kitten.

You really have to think what the original value is. If you have a 50% chance at X drop, 70% or 240% increase to that is great.

If your original chance is .001%, then 70% and 240% increase are pretty much the same thing.

Observe this glorious specimen in its all its glory. What’s that? You didn’t know the Quaggan tonics had a wonderful swim animation? It’s alright. Hold your applause…because the Quaggan tonic can also wield the Arch Diviner’s/Cultist’s Hammer.

I know. I’ll give you a moment to compose yourself. I understand…really, I do. It’s not everyday your senses are pushed to their limits. Take a couple of days and organize your thoughts. This is a huge moment in your life.

But don’t wait too long. They won’t be around forever. Save the Quaggans.

There was a time GW2 was Casual Friendly

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Maybe I’m in the minority here but I’m not a fan of hyperbole. I think this game is on the whole, very casual friendly. I only play (at most) several hours a week and am able to play what I enjoy without feeling penalized for missing out during inactivity.

Am I going to get every collection? Nope. I also don’t care to do so. If I did, I would make time in my life for them. “Grindy” things like that don’t make me happy and I won’t do them. Not sure why there is so much complaining about content like this. Either you enjoy it or you don’t. If you hate grinding but felt compelled to get “Ex Machina”, you’ve only got yourself to blame for your misery.

The complaints about timers in maps are valid in my view though. There are times when I would have liked playing AB or TD, etc.. but just didn’t have the time to wait for a reset. Still, FWIW, this game is quite friendly to casual players.

I just have a sneaking suspicion that many self proclaimed forum casuals are not very casual themselves.

Still no mention of dungeons

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Generally, the first map is almost always entirely full of first time first serve TTS members all on TS.

The second map is generally just as successful as the first though. It needs members to flood the TS first and then players will recruit for the map. Yes, you do get trickle in and I agree that it’s a good way to force pugs to learn.

TTS does a great thing because at the start of each “raid” they spend 10 minutes or so going through all the phases and making people move around in rehearsal. In my opinion, this one of the reasons they are as successful as they are.

They do this by having essentially TTS maps. I don’t think you would ever see something like this in SW for example. Can you imagine the response to, “Hey guys let’s practice Gold/Silver and getting out of their dual AoE.” The reason I would like locked instances is because I don’t think people would get locked out. TTS invites people with no criteria and kicks members for inactivity.

The only requirement is to listen and participate. That’s the only thing it takes to beat anything in GW2 open world raiding. Locking instances to groups wouldn’t alienate pugs anymore than they already are.

Epidemic: kicked for not playing heavy

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

I’m my opinion if running a dungeon and getting kick because are using a an axe or a staff or a wand or whatever then the class is broken. What is the point in adding in those weapons or giving the ability to make those builds if everyone frowns on them and kicks you? Im realistic however and I know how it works. Just seems pointless having the weapon in the first place if know one ever using them.

I remember reading devs posts back before release. One of the things they talked about was creating content that people would only play once and never again or only if they rolled another character. That was the big thing behind there lvl limit thing in lower lvl areas.

Yet pretty much they have created that very problem here.

Your response sort of betrays your inexperience man. It tells me that you don’t know the use of each of those weapons.

People are not getting kicked because of a weapon (at least from my parties) but because they don’t know how to use what they have.

You have forks, knives, and spoons. Just because spoons are more useful when eating soup, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t make knives and forks anymore. If you come to my place to eat soup with a knife, you’re going to make a mess, and I’ll probably want you to leave. Who will put up with your inexperience with silverware you might ask? Well, a friend or guild. They will teach you how to use that spoon instead of the fork.

Let’s get back into GW2 terms here. A staff for guardian is not useless but if you’re camping it in a dungeon, interrupting fire fields with that light field, and spamming 1 and 4, then you don’t know what you’re doing. If you really want to use a staff, pop staff 4 before entering combat and swap back to your regular DPS sets, then you’re using that weapon right.

They make these ‘other weapons’ because they have a use. It doesn’t mean you should camp 1 weapon the entire dungeon though. A good player swaps and adapts. They don’t keep the same 3 utilities on the bar the whole run either.

My guess is that folks are getting kicked for this, not for being X class. If you join and you have a signet for movement speed…in a dungeon. That’s a kick. It tells me that you’re wasting an entire slot on something arbitrary. Where is that signet useful though? Open world. You just have to know what to use and where. When to eat with a spoon, and when to use a fork

That’s where the kick are coming from. Experienced speed clear parties boot someone camping staff 1, or running LB because it wouldn’t really help to tell them to do otherwise. The fact that they’re running non-applicable gear tells us that they don’t understand the content. Doesn’t matter if they start running the right sets, they just don’t get the basics. Makes sense?

That said, ask around. Experienced folks are usually willing to teach!

Anyone else realize GW1 is the better series?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

I still remember the day I happened to pick up GW1. That game was a pretty big part of my life. Back in the ‘glory days’ of GW1, it was a fantastic game. Not without its flaws but a great game nonetheless. It did some very unique things too.

I think GW2 is very different but also very unique and fun. It’s very easy to look back at years of GW1 with rose tinted glasses and forget all the negative aspects of the game. It’s easy to forget DCing and losing HOURS of progress in whatever content you were playing.

Overall, I don’t think GW2 will ever take the place of the memories I built with GW1, but it can certainly help make some new ones.

Reporting "Kick player" abuse (fotm/dungeons)

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

I wish the dev had implemented a “Refuse to kick” button, so the group has an option to cancel a kick request. That way I can protect the one being kicked for no good reasons, instead of trying to get rid of the kicker and cause confusion.

Upon requesting a kick, the entire party is transported into a new instance.

The party spawns in Court of the Mists. Here they are expected to quickly and quietly take their seats pending the beginning of a formal hearing. Each party member is called forth, one at a time, to give their account. They are then cross examined by the appointed representatives of each respective party member.

The Court adjourns for a period of 15 minutes before bringing out expert testimonies. These range from “LFG Griefers”, to “Dungeon Soloers”, to “Forum Personalities”. Following expert testimonies, a 10 minute recess is taken before the Court officially rules in favor of or against the proposed Kick.

The party is then held for an additional 30 minutes pending the processing of official paperwork. The party then takes an Asura Gate leaving the Court of the Mists, one at a time, each taking care to retrieve their personal belongings/gear from the security claim at the exit.

Since transport from the Court of the Mists is a Tyrian State funded gate, it takes 500% longer to load into the instance than normal. Upon their return to their instance, (plus or minus the proposed kick-ee), the party is left to reflect upon their actions and recent events.

They draw the logical conclusion that content should ideally be run with friends, Guildies, or not at all
