Is there any hope for gw2 pve(dungeons)?

Saint.5647

Of course you can do this while you contribute damage as well. What does that mean? It means you need to be paying attention to attacks to dodge, as well as your Party UI to manage the ‘debuffs’… That takes playing at a higher skill level than playing a back-line ‘debuff remover’ or ‘healer’. There is no room in this game for such a passive and useless role.

I run zerker on pretty much all dungeon runs anymore, it isnt exactly hard, its just boring. All zerker all the time… Is there a problem with adding more roles to this “role playing game”? I guess I just wasnt aware that the R in RPG, referred to a single role.

Not sure why you are not able to get this. You don’t play ‘Zerker’. You play a class. You play a role with that class. If you have 4 players each able to cap/stack vuln on a mob, do you all trait for it? No. You don’t. Because it’s a waste of a trait :P That’s smart building. So your role is very dependent on your team. Are you cycling reflects? Are you bringing utilities for pulls? Etc… There are many roles within a team that members sacrifice personal DPS/utility for. The EA Warrior is a great example of this as well.

Condis. and CC also have plenty of uses in both dungeons and fractals if you choose to employ them. None of them require you to gear for them though.

Fractals arent as bad as regular dungeons on this. The problem is if you gear for anything other than a zerker role, you’re usually worse off.

Both make use of CC and condis. Certain group play-styles may not make room for it, but it doesn’t mean you cannot use them in a smart manner. No, they don’t require you gear for them. If you’re looking for something like the Jungle Wurm Husks where you need Condi teams, then no…that isn’t in the dungeons. Would I like to see it? Idk…maybe. It could be cool…but at the same time it would suck to have to spam the LFG looking for ‘need 2 condi necro to go’…it really ruins the way the game is accessible imo.

This game is very play how I want. I can play on my Ele, my Guard, my Warrior, my Thief, etc… Each class has some very cool things it can do. Each weapon set has some specific uses that a clever player can learn or even discover new ones.

Ah, you forgot to add: “so long as it falls under ‘zerker’”.

When does Scarlet attack take place?

in Lore

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

The Pact only focuses on dragon threats. Dragons being related to Scarlet’s unproven until now (yeah, cave paintings don’t count as proof). Plus what Jelle said.

Exactly. The ‘Pact’ are all there helping. The orders are playing their separate roles in the LA effort. Think of the Pact more as the Avengers. They’re not always together, the individual orders often do their own thing until they’re all needed together.

Logistically, the running of the Pact has got to be pretty difficult. Given they’ve lost resources against Zhaitan and their Marshall is still in Orr post story, they’ve likely broken back down into their respective orders. It will likely take another dragon to assemble the Pact again.

Why Do We Hate Rangers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Myth: Rangers are Bad
False. Rangers are a very good class. Once the sword auto is fixed (which Anet expressed interest in doing), it will be even more enjoyable to play. We take Rangers into many of the dungeons. It brings a lot in the way of party wide DPS.

Much of the ‘hate’ comes from community experiences with bear bows in Dungeons. Perhaps nothing wrong with open world roaming with a bearbow or leveling with one. There is something wrong with camping range, not providing any benefits to the party and receiving none yourself. There is something wrong with spamming skills on CD just because they are off CD and ruining cleaves by constant knockback.

Now, as far as kicking goes…PuGs are mediocre at best. If they cared much about times, they would be doing Dungeons as a guild. Groups looking for ‘speed runs’ with 4 Wars and 1 Guardian are lol worthy. These are generally the groups that say ‘no rngrs or kick’…and these are the slow as molasses groups that you want to avoid anyways; bad players masquerading as experienced ones.

Dungeon request "Runners out"

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

I think you are overconcerned with the way other people play dungeons – which, quite frankly, is none of your business.

Cannot +1 hard enough.

The point is why we have dungeons then? if ppl only want to get rewarded.

Would you feel good if you’re in a marathon but takes a car to reach the goal?

So the way you are telling is take a car and run to goal and you got rewarded that your point of view here.

Same happen to the game with runners..

That’s not really a fair comparison. Is it really such a competition between you, personally, and the serious dungeon runners? Which one of you gets to say “This is a foot race, not a car race?”

See it this way, you are cheating the game that simple, why you have a trash mobs then? do you think they put mobs there only for people run?

The point here is everyone understand that you are lossing your time too, is not for casual players only, isnt better you get a hall of legendaries instead of running?

why most of ppl only made AC and TA and not others one? they answer is they are quickly dungeons. so the point is you want to farm gold, well lets farm gold but in a razonable way not running

If you run Arah p3, there are a whole load of elite undead patrols. I’m preeeeeetty sure they were designed to be skipped just by the very nature of the way the mobs were grouped and set up in that path.

As someone else said, stop concerning yourself with what other people are doing, it doesn’t concern you. If you don’t want to skip, don’t skip. Just make sure you specify in your lfg “no skipping”.

That what i do friend, the idea is not concerning myself, im trying to ppl undertand that you lost your time running too, read the post before.

Ok. Maybe. But there are already many threads about this. You starting your own is suspicious. It looks more like a passive aggressive shot at speedrunners, thinly veiled as a question.

If you have a problem with skips, don’t do it. If you have a problem with stacking, don’t do it. If you want to know why people do it, read an existing thread.

Saint.5647

You want people to need specific builds ? A debuffer ? You’re asking for the “play how you want” motto to be erased… I’m amazed, because that would force people to sit for an hour waiting for a debuffer to be able to do a smooth run ? A debuffer who’d contribute to nothing apart from “debuffing” ? Stop copy-pasting mechanics from other games and understand how this one works please :/

This is just wrong. My post never said ‘need’. Are you saying you couldn’t complete a dungeon run on a war heavy team w/o vulnerability? Look at it at the other side of the spectrum. What would you do if you were trying to end a “play how you want” motto? Make one build type so good that ppl will be kicked from pugs if they dont have it? that kinda sounds like zerker to me. A system where a debuffer is desired, gives ppl the ability to make a viable contribution as a debuffer. That isnt to say that that the debuffer is required. If you truely want a “play how you want” game 5 debuff focused builds or condition focused builds should be able to do a dungeon clear just as efficiently as a zerker group comp.

Berserker isn’t a build. It’s a gear set. There isn’t gear variety in speed clears because those players DO NOT NEED the survivability of Knights, Clerics, w/e else.

There is plenty of build variety though. Players swap in and out certain traits for certain encounters pretty often. If you feel like running a different team comp, you shuffle traits around to achieve the same results. The best build variety is seen in team comps. It’s like a 5 man puzzle of traits and utilities. THAT’S what makes this game so fun.

That is what people who don’t understand are trying to destroy. Most of these posts boil down to “I want to play a healer but I also want to be speed clear fast.” Sorry, it doesn’t work that way. In GW1, it did. It also didn’t promote much build variety. LFG Monk for 40 minutes. “Monk, what are you running?” Better be WoR, or HB, or w/e the current meta was"

You can contribute just fine as a ‘debuffer’ by removing weakness, confusion ,etc… Of course you can do this while you contribute damage as well.

Condis. and CC also have plenty of uses in both dungeons and fractals if you choose to employ them. None of them require you to gear for them though. If you want to pew pew pew and LB knockback everytime it is off CD, and rack up 20 stacks of Defiance on a mob, then you will enjoy none of those elements. If you want to coordinate CC, then you will actually find that it’s a pretty nice mechanic.

This game is very play how I want. I can play on my Ele, my Guard, my Warrior, my Thief, etc… Each class has some very cool things it can do. Each weapon set has some specific uses that a clever player can learn or even discover new ones.

dishonour system when you kick someone

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

This might be one of the worst posts I’ve ever read. Could it be any more full of untrue assumptions?

Dishonor? Dishonor? Really? That’s the word you’re going to use?

It’s dishonorable to set a criteria and ask people to meet it? Let’s say I want 3 more players to fill out my speed run. I post for “Speed Run only DPS gear”…someone joins with PVT gear and defensive traits. I have to play with this guy or else I’m dishonorable?

Man, I’m not about being rude or disrespecting people who join. I just have them be on their way if they didn’t read. If anyone could even get these ‘dishonor’ points it would be the people who don’t have the common courtesy to read my LFG.

Just how do you think this ‘majority’ of kicks is happening? I doubt many people are kicking just to be malicious.

Look, I definitely agree there should be no kicks allowed after a certain point without more votes cast. This would help against griefing at bosses or after being in the dungeon for a while. I think within the first few minutes of playing with someone new, you know whether you want them with you on the rest of the dungeon or not.

But seriously, this is the worst system I’ve ever heard of. Players who don’t ‘change their behavior’ will accrue ‘dishonor’ points? What a ridiculous thing to say. How about players who fail to read will accrue ‘moron’ points and won’t be able to join a party for the next 15 minutes?

Solution: LFG Tool search criteria

Potential solution/thing to discuss: Player rating system with different colors. Different ratings for different things. So a player with a high red (dungeons) rating, you know will be a good dungeon runner. He happens to have a low yellow (WvW) rating though so you know what to expect of him there.

Can Ranger/Necs qualify for LFG "Speedrun"

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

For Guardians, you mentioned some bad traits. I main a thief which is pretty straightforward but have a guardian alt.

You said “hogging virtues, wrong utilities etc”. Can you please tell what you want out of Guardians (I have full zerker gear for the guard) – what you dont want them to do?

Yeah I did toss a few out there that always draw my attention. So the virtue hogging is when Guardians sit on their virtues on passive.

This is a huge tell of either a very, very lazy player (who is likely just spamming 1), or a very unskilled player who just bought the gear to look the part. A good Guard is spamming VoJ as often as possible. Blinds in general are a great damage mitigation and since it can matter in a run, Aegis is very useful to run too. I see many guards fail to use either Aegis either around the team or for the team.

A good guardian will keep track of the team’s Aegis status when they know a big hit is coming up. Is the boss about to drop some huge damage? Throw up an Aegis so that the party’s DPS chains can continue un-interupted. I think some Guardians selfishly hog them because they feel they personally need them all. You really shouldn’t need them at all and just use them for the good of the team. See zerking is all about the team spirit

Reflects are of course a huge part of playing a guard. Now sure there are some trash mobs not even worth tying your shoes for but for anything else (that has some sort of projectile attack), there is wall of reflection. This is pretty much a must for any guardian. On a similar note, it’s also your job to cleanse conditions. Virtue of Resolve is a condi cleanse to keep your eye on. Check your party’s conditions from time to time just like you’re looking for big hits to Aegis.

You know, they say to not play the UI, but to an extent you should. If your Mes is stacked with bleeds or something, why not take that pressure off of him/her? You can also cleanse with a fire field which is great in a stack because you will get might from it.

A good thing to not do would be to spam attacking for no reason. Alternate between S/F and GS for the burst. Don’t drop light fields for no reason, just to put down an attack. You will destroy the blasts for might and probably tick off any halfway decent eles you have.

Just because you’re in zerk doesn’t mean you can’t be a horrible player. People buy Ferraris all the time and drive like trash. Camping staff in all zerker gear spamming 1, ruining might with light field, and hitting #4, is terrible. You are doing nothing (if not actually negative impact).

So what can you do with the staff? Well, if you have a team that doesn’t blast, go ahead and #4 right before combat. Don’t keep it on you though. Either #4 right before the fight, and then drop a line of warding to LoS but swap out back to your GS. Good for running too :P

Anyways, check out Obal’s builds on youtube. He has done a lot for Guardians and they are way more detailed than this post will be

RE: Changing the face of Tyria "forever"

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

I am sorry, but you are so wrong here it hurts. First, even a fantasy setting and fantasy story need to be internally consistent. If it’s not, they are not a setting or story at all, but only an incoherent babbling. Second, the fact that “mysterious or supernatural forces” exist doesn’t mean those are not also bound by their own rules. While those rules are often more nebulous and less clear-cut than we’re used to with scientific aproach, they generally do exist (if there are no rules at all, it’s generally a mark of a bad writing). As far as we know the magic in GW2 is not one of such “no rules” cases, and does have rules and limitations. While exceptions are still possible, too many of those (or too big ones) just devalue the rest of the setting. And third, the sentence “stretches the limits of believability” is always relevant to any story, regardless of how magical or weird it would be. Basically, the story needs to make sense, needs to be relatable by the reader. If it doesn’t, then it doesn’t, and all waving the “it’s magic” card around accomplishes is to make it even _more senseless.
Besides, most of the logical inconsistences in the Scarlet story are not connected with magic at all.

TL/DR: “Magic” in a story doesn’t mean you can forget about sense and logic.

The Elder Dragons are ancient, powerful beings of unknown origins. They keep the magic balanced by consuming it and drawing it into themselves; though indications show that this isn’t their goal or intention, but rather a side-effect of how they function. Every several thousand years (roughly 10,000 years according to the Durmand Priory), the dragons wake and consume everything in the world, thereby reducing the world to a low level of magic, before going back to sleep. Then the magic they have consumed bleeds out into the world, harmless unlike when they’re awake, only for the dragons to eventually awaken once more and the cycle to begin again

This basically says the Magic is unbalanced and dangerous right now.

Also, I can’t think of one thing that has magic involved and makes sense. Magic defies logic. That’s the purpose of it._

Eh, Magic defies Science, not Logic. Logic is just reason. Within a world like Tyria, magic is reasonable. Within a world like Tyria, the commando class is not reasonable. So, it isn’t logical.

In a magical world, the presence of magic should make sense. In our world we are bound by our physical laws. Tyria is bound by the laws of its lore. That’s really the purpose of lore; to serve as parameters.

And instead people that can t adapt have blood pressure issues

You’re a funny man. That right there is half of why I will never PuG. You have to use these ridiculous emote faces to try to soften the blow. They are so averse to any sort of genuine guidance. Of course you can teach them but it costs you so much energy, frustration, and time. I’d rather enjoy my game.

I don’t enjoy PuGs because they have mediocre builds at best, a very rudimentary understanding of the instance and the tactics, and they are not in TS (or refuse to be). All of this is annoying and I don’t feel like dealing with it when I have skilled players to run with.

If you’re referring the LFG ‘speed runners’, they are not speed runners. For all those reasons Leo mentioned. They’re folks who may have seen a video or two and might even be skilled players themselves but they still just ‘copy paste’ strategies without really understanding what they’re doing. These are the ‘stack and no dodge’ crowd that love to needlessly stack and waste time waiting for LoS in pointless spots. Speed Guild runs are just not something you can do with 4 randoms, no prior coordination, and no communication.

"Experienced lvl 80 ONLY", PSA

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

I can see where the newbies are coming from on this one but frankly I cannot agree with it. Others have said it more in depth than I will, but basically it boils down to advertising your group. If I advertise a speed clear, and that’s about all I advertise if guild mates don’t want to run or we need a few adds, I expect people to read my LFG for ‘80, experienced, speed run, and zerker’. In my eyes, it is like a contract. Hit ‘join party’ and you agree that everything I put in my LFG describes you. When I find out it does not, I will know you lied to me and I will kick you…simple as that. Not only lied but basically said “screw you, I only want mine and I will waste your time to get it!”

You can argue all you like that lv 80 doesn’t mean skilled or zerker doesn’t mean skilled or that 6000 AP can still be bad. That’s fine but if that’s what I’m looking for, don’t try to deceive me. The ultimate annoyance with these sorts of scrub pugs comes from the way they join the group and try to stay silent and hidden. As if their lack of skill or failure to meet the criteria goes un-noticed.

The irony is that I’m a pretty laid back dude and will usually ask them a few questions in the hopes of keeping them around. As long as they are not very bad players, it won’t be the worst thing. I don’t expect perfection when involving a LFG add anyways. These folks though just stay silent and ignore you. What are you supposed to do?

Maybe I’m taking it too much to heart but it’s like “How dare you?” Haha you know? First they join the group without meeting the criteria. They don’t care about you or your group mission. Then they have the audacity to run mediocre builds, with poor understanding of game mechanics, and all the while stay silent as if they are fooling an expert dungeon player. I know if you have DPS gear on…I see what weapons and utilities you use. If you don’t know what you’re doing, speak up! That’s the only way folks will help you.

Pvp what am I doing wrong

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

The thing that really boggles my mind is when I get beat up by like a mesmer, thief, asura, smaller character than myself or lighter armor…even someone wearing a lighter armor skin, bugs me. I like the knight build mace and shield. It would be cool if size and armor counted for more in pvp, like heavy verse light head on they would lose, quickly… I don’t know if its because I don’t have a team or coms.. but I find it unbalanced, most of the time I swing at air because so much evading, I want to just stand there and trade… everyone’s a rabbit or an illusion.

Eh, this post really makes me thing you have no understanding of the basics of the game yet. Let alone just PvP. The game as a whole. I would suggest spending some time familiarizing yourself with it. Now, Asura characters are fun because they are smaller and harder to see their tells, but there isn’t (and shouldn’t) be a marked difference between Race performance.

Guardian is an amazing class for holding points and defending. You have a lot at your disposal to fight on point. Thieves do not. They don’t do well being pressured to stand in one spot and “trade” attacks with you. That’s bad gameplay and that’s why you’re getting smashed. You’re not really understanding the concept of armor types. Heavy means you have more base toughness but don’t expect to stand toe to toe with the DPS that some classes are bringing if you roll as a bunker. Your job isn’t even to kill them. It’s to keep them off point and not capping.

If you have 2-3 people on you and they cannot kill you, you’re doing your job. If you have 1 or 2 people on you and they cannot kill you, you’re doing your job. This means that their team has that many less people to cap and hold. The take away is that standing and fighting just to fight is a surefire way to lose against a coordinated team.

How are you finding it unfair? You’re expecting to be have more DPS absorption (which you do) AND more damage than a squishier player? AND you expect them to just stand there and eat your hits? This really is a learn to play issue here. Again, standing still like that is a horrible, horrible way to play. If thieves are giving you trouble, pay attention to your condis. I bet you anything that they are dropping BP on you and you are not bothering to move outside of it. That’s why you cannot even hit them. Easy prey. I don’t know how you’re fighting Mesmers but I’ve seen many Guards playing the way you describe in random matches.

This build needs a lot of work. Also, I’m not sure you understand the survivability that a Guardian has ‘built in’ if you are leaning on 112 extra toughness to stay alive. My point is that those trait points are wasted on what could have been Berserker trinkets. The Zerk Guard should have no trouble staying alive at all; it is one of the most forgiving classes to play full glass. Seems to me that you are CD skill spamming and wasting virtues left and right. I’m not really seeing any skill rotation or weapon swap; results in DPS loss especially with the time spent using GS light field.

If your build had not explicitly been stated as PvE Zerker Guard, it could be mistaken for a ‘tankier’ hybrid with utilities I’d expect to see in WvW. The points put into the Honor line are also very much wasted in my opinion. If you are however relying on your crit. damage to stack your might, you would be better off stacking dual sigils of perception (which are generally more beneficial for a Guardian anyways). Aside from the stacking set, you should have an alt set for pure % modifiers to further increase your DPS.

So, let’s forget you were trying to make a DPS build. You’re neglecting some of the best utilities for a grab bag of utilities you’re not traited for. You have 2 meditations on your bar but are not traited with Valor (1) : Meditation Mastery. Now Valor is nearly equally useless to trait in as a DPS Guardian. However, it does have the benefit of raising your critical damage so it is a better option if you are set on using Meditations in PvE. A better option to avoid traiting into a nearly useless PvE trait to justify using Meditations? Trait into virtues instead for (VI) : Master of Consecrations. This will give you the condition cleanses you are looking for with PF and you will also be a greater asset to your team through the short CD utility of situational Consecrations. (IX) : Absolute Resolution will give you an additional condition cleanse; I see you were spamming it during your rotation demo. With AR, you will find that it is a much more useful virtue to both you and your team.

For the OP: Recommend spending a little more time with the class to get familiar.

For new Players: There are far better guides out there. 3/10

Well intentioned post and likely meant for PUGs. Yes? As many have said, there are not really many nevers. Even the most obscure and seemingly useless skills/weapons can have a use somewhere. I’ll certainly agree that a lot of these fall under the ‘niche’ category and are incredibly situational but that sort of experimentation with new methods is what makes speed runs faster and possible in different content.

Stacking has ruined player skill levels

Saint.5647

That’s not what he’s saying either Moon. Judging by your posts, you’re one of those players upset that defines ‘play how I want’ as ‘I want to play a trinity role in GW2 and cannot stand that other players understand the game better’.

The OP actually raises a point about trivializing content and players failing to understand the underlying encounters. You are just crying out because players are doing things quicker than you.

Ive done every dungeon in the game and done it with easy simple because of stacking lol. First off, there is no “hard” dungeon in this game because you can stack your way through it.

It’s not long. Watch it and tell me with a straight face that it’s stacking that trivialised the fight.

You’ve done every dungeon in the game? Great. Your medal is in the mail….This is the dungeon sub. Congrats I guess? acts impressed

Want to see that fight trivialized? That’s what the FGS rushing does. They didn’t use it. Maybe you’re considering reflects an exploit as well? I don’t see where you see ‘stack exploits’ in that video though. Again, you don’t even need to stack on half the kitten in this game and can still kill it just as fast. It’s just a convenient method.

Dissolving the Zerker meta

Yes thats essentially what im saying. Just do a google search: gw2 (insert whatever) build youll find various results with various trait allocations, but fall under beserker build, (or cleric, soldiers, etc.)

I understand that a build is more than just the gear, but it seems that labeling it according to the gear set (I.e beserker gs build) is a common naming convention. Thats all I was trying to say. It would also appear the naming convention differs according to varipus groups as well.

A common convention among people who don’t know kitten about builds. The same people that flood these forums about nerfing berserkers and removing dodges and adding RNG/unavoidable damage.

The same people who don’t know kitten about how the game works and don’t give a kitten enough to learn.

Berserker’s is a gear set. That. Is. It. If someone was running 0/0/6/6/2 but wearing a Berserker’s set, they are not using a “#zerkexploitbuild”.

Plz make crafting completely unnecessary

any items above white in rarity are “unnecessary”
However, I do believe ascended should not have any time-gated bs, and they should be TP-able (same as legendaries are)

Don’t be absurd. The OP has a valid concern and you respond with something like that? Go ahead and play the game in white gear. Please.

However I agree that the Ascended should be TP-able. Imo, the Legendaries SHOULDN’T be.

But to the OP’s concern, a reason for doing it is because it encourages play in all aspects of the game. I think their reasoning is that the stat difference from Exotic to Ascended is small enough that players who will not craft, will not suffer any disadvantage. It is to be seen how this plays out in the future.

[Suggestion] New Zeal GM trait "Fanaticism"

in Guardian

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

For starters this is very op. It also moves further away on what the Guardian is… In that he is Not a Paladin.

Except a Guardian already can grant quickness to the party. Naming conventions aside, the suggestion isn’t unreasonable.

As far as comparing fantasy archetypes, the Guardian is the closest fit to a Paladin. Regardless, the appearance of the class has nothing to do with the skill-sets. I think the OP is asking for a more accessible quickness than the Tome, which is only useful in niche situations.

I’ll also echo what others have been saying. The Guardian needs to have the Shield and Torch seriously looked at and improved.

This is the first time I see such a thread. I’m amazed at the insight in your idea, I’ve never seen anything like it before… You surely are of the special kind.
Keep up the good work, make more threads with more refreshing ideas.

Gotta keep making them until ANet does something about it.

They did. “Play How I Wanters” still can’t do the Spider Queen. They can’t do HoTW now without exploiting an AFK range spot. They can’t do the CoE golem. They can’t do Alpha. They can’t do Lupi.

They don’t seek challenges for themselves. They ask for the removal of more and more class and combat mechanics in pursuit of some mystical ‘level playing field’, where they will be somehow able to play at a passable level without putting forth any effort of their own.

Anet is doing a great job giving them this. If folks like you get your way, the only thing left to do will be to press 1,1,1,1,1,..

The "B-Iconics"?

in Lore

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

@Rod, I think you would enjoy Dragon Age a lot.

Perhaps the time between S1 and S2 could be spent fleshing these characters out more. What I would like to see are some side quests. Not everything has to be a ‘the world will end’ event. Perhaps Kasmeer and Marjory investigate corruption in DR. Perhaps Rox starts her own warband and enlists the Charr players’ help with finding members. Perhaps Braham tries to learn more about his mother and DE and then seeks to grow his own legend.

Quests like this could be very fun and also introduce a little bit more story alongside the Lore. I think they would work well with different dialogue for race-specific characters. No reason a Charr couldn’t help Marjory investigate corrupt Ministers but there could be different dialogue for a Human who had dealt with this in their PS already. Same could go for the Charr and the warband.

ANet, Let's Talk Achievements

a•chieve•ment (??t?iv m?nt)

n.
1. something accomplished, as through great effort, skill, perseverance, or courage.
2. the act of achieving; attainment or accomplishment.

I’ll just leave this here.

Good joke. There were some achievements in this game reliant on great skill, effort, perseverance, or courage. Still looking at the people who complained about Liadri or Triple Trouble….likely the same people who tried to cheese them or gave up altogether.

Let’s not lie to each other. There is nothing remotely challenging about the dailies. There never was. That’s ok. They’re not there to challenge anyone. They’re there to encourage people to play daily! (duh) They did a pretty good job at that.

Regarding some of the changes however, I have to agree with the OP. Let’s take a daily like “Complete 4 events in X Zone.” Used to be that you could complete events anywhere in Tyria and boom. Now you have people flooding a zone to wait for events to spawn. It reminds me a little of waiting on mob respawns in WoW. Certainly not what GW2 was about IMO.

In my eyes, the only thing that this does is extend the time needed to complete this daily by making players wait for the events to spawn. Completing 4 Events in Caledon is not an achievement. It’s not “something accomplished as through great effort, skill, perseverance, or courage”. Let’s not pretend it is.

Now, is this a huge deal for me? Not really. I play PvE/PvP/WvW. The daily is very quick for folks like me. I can imagine it’s much more inconvenient for PvE only players though.

Sylvari: Anet was planning this since 2007

in Lore

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

@ Freeelancer: That’s fair. Though I’ll add this post below, by Angel McCoy. It may have gotten lost in the deluge of post patch lore threads
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lore/ANet-Writers/first#post4691831

The sylvaris’ origins have been part of their design from the very beginning, since well before we launched the game. Kudos to those who figured it out before the revelation.

Lucky, Ms. McCoy adds about as much storyline credibility to GW2 as Michael Bay does to cinema. Essentially, I agree with Freeelancer. I don’t believe that. I don’t think the writers knew where the story would be going and I think that’s why we have as many lore inconsistencies and retcons as we do.

That said, I have no way to disprove Ms. McCoy’s statement nor does she really have a way to prove it was indeed all planned. Our only option is to take it at face value. I sincerely hope they didn’t have it planned since 2007 though because if they did, they did a kitten poor job at it.

My guess, and my hope, is that they decided on this course within the last 6 months or so and are now have a vision of where to take the game. Despite the Minion theory not being one I supported for lack of lore-based evidence, I hope they are going to drive the game forward with a vision in mind. This will reduce future lore inconsistencies.

Golds from dungeon is killing the economy

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Of course there is inflation. Time has passed since the launch. There is always inflation. If you’re looking at players with over 10k gold as your standard, you’re looking in the wrong places. They’re not making money from dungeons.

Removing the income from dungeons is about the dumbest thing you could do. That is the equivalent of taking away jobs. Remove the dungeon rewards and you destroy the middle class of GW2. The market doesn’t care who owns the money or mats. As long as that money continues to grow and holdings in the BLTP grow, the market will continue to inflate.

Essentially by removing dungeon rewards you will destroy the middle class of GW2, cripple the people that actually feed a healthy economy, and yet do very little to stop inflation since the majority of accruing wealth in the game is in the hands of TP flippers.

My LFGs usually scare away vermin. Be very up front with it and include things like, “READ: PX/Y/Z Speed Clear only DPS, Do X,Y,Z – Get Kick”

Sometimes you get a random join. Ask them if they read. I have never once had anyone reply. They stay silent. Then comes the kick.

For someone like you described, I can’t even imagine how fast that kick would be.

skipping/stacking and class bigotry.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

People for stacking and skipping don’t discredit those who are against it.

Yes they do. People fling kitten at each other from both sides; neither party is innocent in the slightest.

Not really, this is because when non-stackers enter a party of stackers, they get kicked. Non-stacking/skipping parties are so rare that it is unlikely that a stacker will end up in one, and once he’s a minority, he’ll simply leave.

However, if by discrediting you mean telling people in the forums how inefficient their methods are, then you’re kinda right, but that only occurs as a result of the endless amount of threads moaning about stacking/skipping.

No, they develop a massive superiority complex because the majority of them can’t stand the fact that there’s another side to the coin that has just as much right to their own opinion and result to slandering and trashing each other. It’s quite like a pair of political parties, really. Both always insist that the other is wrong and that they know exactly what is best for everyone else.

I don’t think that’s the case. I speak for myself but I think also many of the people I play with. It’s not that I can’t stand that “there’s another side to the coin”. Contrary to what the QQ threads would imply, meta players never want to play with “the other side of the coin”.

I made the mistake of trying to pug when my guild was unavailable. A few minutes into LFG and many kicks later, the angry messages convinced me it was time to call it quits and just wait until I had guildies. I don’t care if you think your PVT guardian is awesome. I don’t care if you think 25 AR is enough. I don’t care if you think gear check is ridiculous.

I play meta and I’ve played non-meta. I have never had a meta player come try to force their gameplay upon me. The trash players on the other hand? Always rude, always offensive. What gives you the right to be in my party if you don’t care about the way we do business?

Just something to think about. Enough with these “I’m the victim” threads.
