This "Meta" has to end

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Saint.5647

Wouldnt be an issue if people just started their own groups. :P

Agreed! Well half-agreed.

The zerk only thing I feel has a ‘chilling effect’ in the classic sense. It gives people who don’t know better the idea that they can’t do the content or are playing ‘wrong’ and discourages people from using the content.

It’s better now, a lot fewer people are demanding zerk, but the damage is largely done.

Only if we assume all players who don’t know any better are mindless sheep. I don’t think this is the case. Ignorance in a subject can allude to but does not confirm general stupidity or lack of desire to educate one’s self.

In short, people have the ability to question and to learn. When confronted with zerk only groups, a newer player should question why this is the case. I think we owe it to them, as the existing community, to give a fair assessment and argument as to why the game meta currently stands as it is.

I think we may agree to disagree on the dissemination of information as a disservice or “damage done.” The interpretation is entirely up to the beholder, as it were. In that regard I think the experienced PvE community has done a lot to provide that information to the general GW2 community.

Skipping Vs. Fighting

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

…..stuff… But to only have one skipper try your way and actually say thank you when it works would make you a bit kitten like me. The feeling of being above 10kAP and having some pug with >2kAP, meta build, skip, stack, #yolopuglife, say I don’t know how to play while he lays on the dirt dead and I solo the bosses of CoE only to quietly go and rez him afterwards….stuff….

A few things. No one here cares about AP. It’s a pug metric. It has no power here.

Also, I think you mean well but you won’t convince anyone to kill trash mobs. Here’s the thing. It’s always been available as an option. It’s not a hidden feature. If we want to kill mobs, we will kill mobs.

No one here is pushing pugs around either. They’re either a) Not pugging at all or b) Helping pugs out. The people here are not making LFG for “50k AP noscopers only”. Your complaints here are aimed at the wrong people.

Killing trash sucks. Skipping isn’t particularly fun either. What is fun? Banter with friends. Dungeons are a backdrop for conversation with my friends. Let’s not try to dictate fun for others hmm?

RE: Changing the face of Tyria "forever"

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Saint.5647

I get this feeling that if Scarlet were male, no one would have a problem with her at all.

I mean, she’s the equivalent to many other male characters that have stormed across canons in the past. The Joker is mentioned in that massively article. She is like the Reavers in Firefly – at first, no reason is given for their existence, but people are terrified of them nevertheless. She’s Crais from Farscape. John Locke from LOST. Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII. Magneto from the X-Men.

There is no difference between her and any other villain that has ever existed, except that she’s female.

Being a powerful woman does not automatically make you a bad character/Mary Sue/retcon bait. In fact, I applaud ANet for making the main villain female, rather than yet another male villain.

And I bet if a good portion of the people mentally rewrote her character as male, they would have no problem with her.

Or maybe we could let opinionated gender bias sit this one out. Let’s not forget that most of the NPC protagonists in this game are also female.

The Joker was mentioned because he is an example of a great execution of a ‘chaotic’ villain.

As someone else mentioned, Varresh Ossa from GW: Nightfall was a fantastic villain. I bought that she was a powerful ruler and competent military tactician. From the exposition I could tell that something was amiss with Kourna and Ossa. She had a strong backstory behind her (and her name) and her descent into madness was also believable. None of her skills and actions seemed far fetched.

Her plan to bring back Abaddon was alluded to in the starter quests for NF characters. Exposition from Mhenlo and Co. for non-NF characters also hinted to what was to come. It was a gradual buildup that developed the story into something the players could care about from the start. Did we know exactly how she was planning to bring back the lost God? Nope. But we did know she was involved in it and for much of the story she was the main antagonist.

She didn’t have to be trained by the Kurz stonesingers and Imperial swordsmen. She didn’t have to learn spells from the mages of Nolani. She didn’t have to have ascended in the desert (conveniently sometime before we did). She was already an imposing foe as the ruler of a powerful military nation and a seasoned fighter in her own right. Add to that her powers granted by Abaddon and his tormented creatures? Yes, she was a great villain without being cheesy in any way.

They even had the character of Morgan as her 2nd in command who we could see from the start realizing that she wasn’t the person she once was. All of that together made it enjoyable to play through.
———————————————————————————————————————————————-
Now imagine there was no boxed game called GW: Nightfall. Imagine there were no quests with exposition or missions to provide the context of her actions. Imagine that the first thing you did was repel the tormented attack on LA as a non-NF character. Then you go to Kamadan and the Sun Docks. Then fight the Kournans and Varresh but are not shown the Abaddon statue. Imagine the demons don’t come to he aid. She just gets away and that’s that. Despite you defeating her fortress. That encounter doesn’t really tell you much does it?

Where to Go? Want Best of Everything

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

So, since you’re using the Mac beta, I am going to assume you will be lacking the processing power or graphics to run the T1 WvW. Your world choice is not permanent. You can swap worlds if you like although some may cost you more gold than others.

The TP is constant across the game so your world will not affect this. For general PvE gameplay, it isn’t too relevant which world you are in since you can still play with your friends and guildies through the Megaserver.

There isn’t really an “endgame reward” as you say. The benefits of a top tier WvW world are minimal unless you’re absolutely passionate about WvW and want to be a commander in one of these servers.

If you’re new, take time to learn the game and experience different aspects of the game. The first play-through is quite nice and magical. Play around with different classes and really learn them. Then a few months down the line you can re-consider which server is best for you once you know what you’re interested in.

My PUG story...

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Not saying it’s right OP, but people more often care about how you address them instead of what you address them with. I’ve never run with you (to the best of my knowledge) but it seems like most of the comments that have some semblance of civility to them point towards your social graces and interpersonal tact.

Now you can of course assume that everyone will read your post and interact in a very businesslike fashion but it’s likely a recipe for disaster. A “hello, how’s it going?” can actually go a long way. No one likes to be greeted awkwardly with “ping gear and traits.”

It’s much like extending your hand to shake with someone you’ve just met and having them blow past you asking you to show you the latest figures on X, Y, Z business deal (just as an example). It comes off as rude and leaves a very nasty impression. You might very well be a great guy/gal but you’ve got to give people a chance to see it.

More often than not, people won’t care what you know or how good you are. If they don’t like your attitude, you could be leading them by the hand to the fountain of youth and they would still drop you from the party. Like it or not, it is an MMO where if you’re going to PUG, you’re going to need to get along with others.

So, OP, you can either keep trying to put square pegs into round holes or with very minimal effort, you can make a nice first impression and observe some simple social graces, and then really blow them away when they see how skilled you are throughout the dungeon.

Maybe you’re doing all of this and still having back luck. If that’s the case, sorry to hear it. Best of luck though!

This elitist mentality is what bothers me most about this game. Seriously, if you have fun playing a certain class, with a certain weapon, then go for it. If synergy is soooo important to you elitist dungeon runners, whey the hell are you running with pugs in the first place. I paid just as much for this game as anyone else, and I’ll be sure to bring whatever the hell weapon I want.

Well man, frankly that word is annoying at this point. It is important to me. I love playing with folks who also love synergy. I like seeing full might stacks on our party. I like seeing fire fields blasted without a ‘retaliation’ trolling across my screen.

I think you mistake dungeon runners. We have fun doing what we do. I can’t speak for all but I can speak for my friends and say we’re a friendly bunch. Sometimes we need to take people from LFG though. It’s aggravating when randoms join without reading. To me it says they don’t care about me, my friends, or our team. They are there to get theirs and they don’t care about anything else. It wears on me to keep hearing ‘you have to this’ or ‘you have to do that’ from those sorts of people. You came to our party. We didn’t beg you to come to ours (I don’t mean you specifically).

Nah. I don’t want to take you if you are not going to play optimal setups. It doesn’t mean I hate you. I payed for this game too. Like someone else said, I may have paid more including gems. I don’t care if you take no weapons at all. Just, you know…don’t join my party.

If you don’t care about ‘synergy’ or my style of play, why does it bother you so much?

Well, on a serious note, they did have non BiS greens in Factions and NF. Uniques are always fun. I have wanted more exotics for some time in the game. It seems like we have very few to pick from.

Now for events like the LS or Storyline, there’s no problem with “Champion Risen or Champion Aetherblade Scrub” or whatever…but for the constant world bosses, there should be unique names and unique weapons. With a very, very rare chance to drop. That would keep people farming different areas of the game I think.

new Nomad gear at world boss events

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

i tend to agree with dusty, that someone in this gear doing damage is more usefull
then someone who’s dead on the ground.

In theory but that’s assuming both players are equally skilled. Let’s say a DPS oriented player dies. Can the TVH player solo whatever the encounter is?

If so, good. If not, which is usually the case, what was the point? The objective is to defeat X, Y, Z. The objective is not to be the last team-mate standing. If you are capable of solo-ing everything, you probably have a good enough grasp on the game to not need TVH gear in the first place.

It just seems like a counterintuitive gearset to me. I hear that “dead dps” phrase thrown around a lot when this discussion rears its head. Bad players in TVH will outlast bad players in a DPS set…but ultimately fail anyways…and waste more time in doing so. Good players won’t need it regardless. Ideally you want good players in DPS oriented gear as they’re the least likely to die, the most familiar with the content, and will contribute the most in damage.

Fixing the Zerker Mentality

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Look it is this thread again. Zerker doesn’t need a fix – you take defensive stats assuming that you take damage, and if you trust your skills enough to be able to survive without any defense you are free to do so and enjoy the benefits. It is working exactly as intended.
What is needed however is to make conditions a viable alternative in PvE but I’m sceptical about the possibilities to implement that considering conditions are way OP in PvP. I don’t think it can be done without completely splitting PvP and PvE balancing but as it seems atm Anet isn’t willing to do that.

They’re splitting the changes in the coming patch between PvE and PvP I believe. If this is indeed the case, there is NO excuse for having left conditions to wither away in PvE this long.

PSA Staff Guardians in the Silverwastes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Honestly, I think it’s an open world habit for people. In most cases staff was the best mob tagging weapon and thus the best loot generating weapon.

A lot of folks couldn’t care less how they scale the content as long as they get more loot, and honestly, I don’t mind when it comes to open world content. It’s ridiculously easy.

Aware that SW awards no loot however a lot of the casual open world players are the same ones who own 1 armor set, 1 or two weapons, and are generally unaware of how to play the game. What I mean by this is that they got a staff to maximize loot in open world events, and they won’t be bothered to change their weapons.

There is more to organization than simply sitting in the boss’ chair or activating a blue tag over your head.

There are very few places where you will predominantly find people who are both willing and able. Most people are a mix between the two.

You will work with willing and able people; these are your go-to folks. You will work with people who are willing and unable; these are people who will need to learn their work and whose enthusiasm should be kept alive and rewarded. You will work with people who are able but unwilling; these people most test your abilities as a leader because these are the ones you need to motivate on a personal level.

Of course there are unwilling/unable people as well. They are not the majority in the day-to-day and I highly doubt they are the majority in game as well. Remember that putting on the role of a leader does not make you a good one. You’re always going to be griefed by a few. Don’t let that deter you but managing people effectively is not easy. If it was, everyone would do it comfortably.

To bring this back into focus for GW2, you should be actively engaged in your OF and assessing its status after each round. Just throwing on a blue tag isn’t going to cut it.

Dungeon NPCs with bugs/bad behavior

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

The NPCs lack consistency. There is no 100% rule to their actions and it causes frustration.

NPCs can either melt instantly from damage….or they can agro a boss and tank it for 250 years.

NPCs can die and rez on the team as they go….or they can stay dead at a critical gated portion and require re-running or a buggy rez.

NPCs are 100% useless in any combat situation….yet somehow feel the need to attack and aggro enemies for no reason (looking at you Varra -__-)

Making them behave a certain way everytime would be a start to fixing the NPC frustration. Otherwise we are always left guessing.

Kind of torn on how quickly everyone jumped down his/her/idk… throat about this. Let’s not get so caught up on the usual malcontents trolling in from General Discussion to stir up kitten.

I don’t think these guys came in here swinging their peters saying that this is how dungeons were meant to be run. Seems like they just did it for fun. All things considered, it’s probably better than a lot of the pug runs out there.

Ohlette, it’s viable. It’s not necessary but it’s viable and for what it’s worth ya’ll didn’t do a bad job of it. Seems like you guys also understand it’s not the optimal way either so I wouldn’t take anything too personally. I think folks around here are a little too used to posts like this being made in a very accusatory and angry fashion.

Frankly, I don’t think dedicated class roles have any place in the game’s current state. Can’t say what the future holds but as it stands, the skill is often found in how well a player can adapt and play multiple roles at once. Currently, this can 100% be done in offensive setups. Since support is largely untied to any supportive stats, there is very little benefit to be gained from spec. into it.

TIL Not Joining a Squad gets you called out

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

I was a pug there, I never lead SCAR so I don’t know what you’re on about. I just remember how mad salty you were being called out that you were breaking the scaling even though the commander already had 20 in squad.

I don’t care what guild you’re in or who you think you are but that’s what happened from my perspective, as a person who was simply there for the meta following the commander.

In the end some nice people moved to other lanes from the squad because of your selfish actions. If anything it just made your guild EG look bad for thinking they knew better in a pug map.

If almost everyone in the 20 man squad wanted you to go away maybe the problem was you rather than the entire squad and with an attitude like “I’m Iris from EG I’m gud I know better than you” who can blame them?

If you don’t command it, let the commander handle it. It’s not the first time I’ve seen what’s being described. Right or wrong, a commander will go off on someone and their mob of ignorant squad members will follow suit.

For what it’s worth, “everyone” in a large number has advocated for idiotic things like “no AoE at red” in SW. Just because a large numbers of people want something, it doesn’t mean it’s right. The folks who figure out how to beat these events (or anything for that matter) are not the large numbers but rather small groups of dedicated players.

Ironically the person you’re bashing right now is one of the people involved in this process over several years. Bottom line is that if you’re upset with someone, deal with it through an actual discussion instead of torches and pitchforks. I have a suspicion there wasn’t a reasonable discussion held.

Fear climate in dungeons nowadays

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

Sometimes it’s not in the description.

Try for example joining a pug Arah p1/2 "speed’ (no such thing in pugs, what they usually mean is stealth run) as a Necromancer or Ranger. Try the same on fractal 50.

The fact is, you’ll likely never get kicked as soon as you join on an ele or warrior, ever.

I think those are the most obvious examples people cringe at. Or they get tired of waiting an extra 5-20 minutes because less people want to join the group with a necromancer, a ranger, a mesmer and a warrior versus the group with a thief, two eles, and warrior/guardian.

It’s really not such a mystery. GW2 is one of the most rage-ish PvE communities relatives to other MMO’s out there. In Wildstar you had people from the leading raiding guild worldwide, Enigma, helping strangers do attunements on their servers to be able to raid. I’ve seen people from Codex, Enigma, many top 5 guilds joining 5 man dungeons, not once a single one of them was sour or sociopathic.

The closest GW2 gets to this kind of community building is likely via WvW guilds.

You’re absolutely right. This community doesn’t give a kitten about anyone. It’s so toxic it hurts.

Take a look at this….yeah, I’m as shocked as you are:
GW2 Dungeon Guide

Yep, these detail every encounter in every dungeon and fractal down to the exact counter for every single mob you will find. You’re right though, these were actually posted online for all to see in order to keep elitist secrets hidden and ensure than Fear Culture will continue to reign supreme for the next 10,000 years.

See, these z3rker elitists knew that hidden knowledge could be placed in plain sight because us common folk are unwilling to read. Knowing this, they discriminated against us by making guides in written format. I know…trust me, I’m as shaken up as you are.

Just take a look at this detailed guide on Dulfy’s site:
Dulfy Fractal Guides

Supposedly it’s quite informative but holy hell those are a lot of words. Apparently she has a bunch of guides on her site but they’re almost all written in words! Luckily some of them have videos though! That’s what I’m talking about. Who wants to go diving through the forums just to find builds…

Speaking of videos, check these ones out:
Nike’s Guides
More Guides

But you’re right Zenith….they’re so kitten long. How am I supposed to watch these things and #1spam-farm open world content. See, these z3rk0rs knew that they were too long for us to watch. They planned it so that no one can ever learn their class or the dungeons. It’s this kitten fear culture. If only more of us knew of their oppressive tactics like we do.

It’s 150% obvious that these elitist scum have no regard for anyone but themselves. Why else would the Dungeon Mentors [Noob] guild be hidden on the first page of this subforum?

These elusive guilds like [Noob] and [ARES] are hiding in plain sight as resources for players who are New to Dungeons and Want to Learn. It’s disgusting I tell ya…

What now z3rk0rz? Zenith and I got ya’ll figured out. You can’t hide behind your
Fractals Tournaments and GW2 Trio Contest. It’s obvious these are just ruses to cover up the secret agenda of the Fear Culture conglomerate that is the dungeon community.

Another thing is that even among the ‘Anglo’ faces, it seems like only 3-4 of them see mass use. A large portion are very awkward, especially for males.

All fair points, and you’re right, multi swamp per day isn’t particularly fun. It’s just something you put some time into and it’s done. On the flip-side, running cliffside with some of these absurd instabilities would be less enjoyable. It’s just as old, just as tired, and just as dry.

Are fractals bad? No. Fractals were cool content, years ago when they released. Now, they’re tired. The new instabilities are a perplexing decision and only serve to frustrate players.

It is no surprise people will do their triple swamp, stand on a post, go through lazy half rotations, and collect their rewards.

Frankly, even if they put up invisible walls and somehow invalidated any “cheez” spot, I’m sure more people would just stop running fractals altogether once they finished their backpieces and collections. I know I would.

If they are serious about keeping fractals around and not throwing it to the wolves like dungeons, they need to do more than patch up little bandaid fixes. Otherwise fractals will be dead in another year or so.

The issue is that this community is very welcoming to anyone who genuinely wants to be a part of it. Really, take a look back through the threads on this subforum. This is one of the most cynical but helpful communities in the game. Anyone who has come here with a genuine desire to better themselves or learn has walked away with solid input from good players.

You can’t even say that the people here exclude anyone because it is only the players that frequent this subforum that publish guides, run teaching guilds, and host community runs for new players.

It certainly isn’t that 5 Warrior CoF buffoon who came in here to make a fool of himself before tucking tail and running. No, it’s people just like that that come in and spit in the face of this community who get exactly what they deserve.

Just look at it objectively. This is a community that gets very little attention from the devs. It’s a tight knit group of people that I will grant has grown very sarcastic and cynical. This can be intimidating but look beyond this as the actual help they provide.

Look at this new posts every week of some moron coming to to make some outrageous claims or complain. These fools come here bringing wild accusations and all but calling the people here monsters and terrible people. These are the people that are not welcome.

tl;dr – Come here with a serious question? You will get some of the best community support in the game. Come here with baseless accusations and name calling? Eat kitten and leave.

RE: The Tequatl-ization of all new content

I don’t mind the loot. I don’t have 4-6 hours a day to game. And that’s fine. It would be ridiculous to ask for the same loot that “raiders” should get.

My problem is with the wait time behind these sorts of events. It’s a huge time commitment.

I think the connotation of ‘casual gamer’ has drifted to terribad from the actual meaning of someone who just doesn’t play as much. Now I am getting very fed up with the attitude that these sorts of events should be reliant on PuGs. That is an affront to actual casual gamers imo.

Sure it’s fine for bad players because they can keep spamming 1 and failing for the next hours in the hopes someone will carry them but I don’t get that luxury. I know a lot of folks in a similar boat.

These should be instanced events or at least scaled within reason. Folks who play casually actually have the most reason to be well geared, experienced in their class, and want to spend the least amount of time waiting around and depending on random players.

I dislike Scarlet

It’s so true, that since we’re not getting expansions, these Living World updates are our only form of new content, and yeah, they may be free, but no game should dump manure on their fans and say “Well hey if you don’t like the smell you can just stop playing now, we know you spent a lot of time leveling up those characters and decking them out in gear, but we’re doing something new and terrible with the game, where we literally pump manure into your computer, her name is Scarlet, and you will love her or you will leave, and we don’t really give a rat’s @$$, deal with it.”

Nah, you’re spot on. Saying, “It’s free. Deal with it” is unacceptable. Consumers who are buying that rhetoric are selling themselves short. Price doesn’t excuse poor quality.

New defiance in dungeons comming with HoT

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Saint.5647

It’s gonna be terrible.

I mean, if aegis can block boss attacks why can’t blind affect bosses.

I understand blind is more spammable for a class like thief or guardian but a necromancer has a long enough cd to justify it, so maybe they should just nerf the ability of thieves to spam blind and guardian leaps so blind can work on bosses.

What’s the point of condition builds if conditions are just straight out inferior versions of boons.

Are you dumb?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but there isn’t a Light/Medium/Heavy version of the backpiece right?

Just craft it with a character who is an armorsmith or leatherworker. Problem solved there. You don’t need to do it with a tailor.

Glint's Bastion and other weapon collections

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Saint.5647

This is an absurd complaint. That story step unlocks after maybe 1 hour of play. If you take issue with that, you’re gonna love farming map currencies for machined weapons….and farming for plated weapon parts….and map currencies for the plated weapons….and crystaline ore for inscriptions, etc…

Seriously, if this is the sort of stuff that bothers you, these collections are not for you. The adventure is not even remotely the most tedious and time consuming aspect.

Dont fix what isnt broken

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Saint.5647

A few things:

1. Berserkerarmor is not an insta win. If you have not set foot outside AC or world events and you use DnT youtube videos as proof that ‘zerk’ is very unfair, please think again. A McLaren is a great performance vehicle but don’t think you’ll win F1 just by getting behind the wheel. Try ‘zerking’ without knowing the basics of the game, and find yourself on the floor more often than not.

2. Berserker is not broken. It is indeed optimal for PvE given understanding of game mechanics, experience in damage evasion and mitigation, and solid team composition. The McLaren is not a broken vehicle because it out performs your WRX on the track. That WRX competes in different venues. In GW2, ‘zerk’ gear may be king in PvE but don’t forget that WvW and sPvP are the other 2/3 of the game. Just because you wanted to bring your WRX to the F1 track doesn’t mean you are entitled to stand on equal footing with the vehicles that compete there. They sure as heck are not entitled to that right if they compete in your venues.

3. Other stats could use a boost. Someone here had a great point about making Toughness scale damage put out by retaliation. Someone else mentioned scaling HP better and increasing active benefits through defensive stats. All ideas worth considering.

4. The vitriol needs to stop. I’ve said it elsewhere and will say it again. Speed clears and fun are not mutually exclusive. Many folks who speed clear dungeons do it because they enjoy that style of gameplay. These are folks with careers, school, children, etc… The groups I have had the pleasure of running with are all a blast to play with and about as ‘casual’ in attitude as it gets. We all play together and have learned to synergize with another. Saying you are a casual player is no excuse to force players who enjoy putting out high numbers and clearing in low times to have to spend more padded time behind a screen to achieve the same objective. A real ‘casual’ player logs on when they can between their jobs. They enjoy the time they have in whatever way they want.

5. While a buff to some stats is worth considering (with WvW taken heavily into consideration as well), if you are claiming “z3rk0r = f4cer0ll” and have not stepped foot outside the Zerg, AC, CoF you are not qualified to voice such a hostile opinion. Again, just because some folks can do it, doesn’t mean you can. There is a learning curve. That’s part of why a lot of folks don’t do it as well.

6. Remember, they QQ will not end here. Again, ‘zerk does not equal good’. Good players are good for a multitude of reasons. Many of them settled on Berserker armor because it allows them to play in an optimal fashion. They will do the same thing regardless of the meta. No changes will make bad players good.

So, if you’re being reasonable and saying there is a problem with the PvE structure that allows this to happen, I agree with you. Hopefully it is addressed and we see a lot more (traits hopefully) builds and setups that approach optimal or become a part of the meta. No reason condi folks should be left out in the cold like this.

However if you’re QQing that zerkers are unfair because you are unable to play them well or are getting left out of speed clear parties despite rolling unfavorable gear, then realize your situation will not change even if the meta does.

Pick your fights? I don’t think I’ve run into a situation where I had to fight 5 elite snipers, and elite husks, etc, etc… alone.

Those are usually situations where I will peel. The mobs do have more CC than in central Tyria but nothing that can’t be dealt with. Blinds are still effective against nearly all mobs and a condi-cleanse and stun-breaker are pretty staple for map roaming IMO.

i hate my character being the main hero

in Lore

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

In other forum I wrote before update that “I would hate if in the final battle against Scarlet, the player would be the one that kills her in an instanced area”, well … it happened just like the way I didn’t want.
Now all players that saw that cut-scene is THE slayer of Scarlet, that makes the story inconsistent, in the future how they will tell who killed Scarlet?

I don’t think it makes it inconsistent. We’re the ‘Pact Commander’ and the ‘Hero of Shaemoor’ as well. In an MMO certain areas of a game are permanently frozen in time. The dungeons are one such example. No matter how many paths they add (which I hope they do), the EXP 1-3 paths will always take place right after the story and before the next dungeon/slaying of Zhaitan. The player ‘canonically’ can only do the story of the dungeon, and one explorable path.

So for Scarlet’s death, it’s really only you and the B Iconics in the instance that spikes her. As someone pointed out on a different thread, if we really get down to it, only one hero of the game can exist. But it is an MMO and we need to bend slightly on that. The 1-80 zones of the game right now are all pre Zhaitan death zones. Southsun is not. Any newly added zones will be post Zhaitan and post Scarlet death. So, like in GW1, a player traveling zones (assuming they are not locked) will be traveling through time.

In GW1 you could run from AC to the Crystal Desert. Doing this fast forwarding through time and lore breaking as the dialogue at each location assumes a certain portion of the story complete.
