[Suggestions] Gemstore Items

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Stop selling individual armor pieces and sell full sets. I feel like they’re selling me a set of new tires one at a time. It’s doing nothing but charging us atleast 50% more than what we should pay. 1200 gems for 4 pieces vs 800gems for 6 pieces? Even if its only 4 pieces. You should, in truth, be charging us LESS. I don’t understand why I read so many players liking the individual pieces. .A more reasonable price should be 125 gems per piece if sold individual

What has been requested:

  • Ability to purchase the full armor
  • Ability to purchase individual pieces from the full set but a little higher cost per piece
(think of the full set as being a bulk deal)

What has been given:

  • Full sets remain as full set purchases only
(still cannot purchase individual items from existing full sets)
  • Low quality/lazily-designed individual non-full set items released at a much higher cost
(nearly/at least double what can be considered reasonable)

They’ve still not gotten it right, which I suspect is due to a combination of a lack of effort and caring and a high amount greed. One can only guess. :\

Why are we still getting single use skins?

in The Nightmare Within

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

“Complete the meta achievement for The Nightmares Within to unlock a special Gasmask Skin!”

As it specifically states the skin is unlocked, this indicated that it would be made available to the entire account in the “Unlocked Rewards” area and would be unlimited use, just as the other “unlocked” skins/items have been.

By using the word “unlock” in the description, this should, indeed, have been an account unlock skin with unlimited uses.

Since it appears it is a single use skin that it is not “unlocked”, the wording was not just misleading, it was flat out wrong. They should not have included “unlock” within the description of the meta reward.

I brought this and the “any piece of head armor” release page wording issues up days before this patch was released and there was plenty of time to make the correction to the wording so they would accurately describe the items.

::sigh::

A question on behalf of veteran players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

T
Also, here’s a wild suggestion for the downed thing….Place the downed skills in the character skills UI area so i can see what skills I have BEFORE I’m downed!!!!

This is a good idea, look at this devs. The one thing that I found difficult when making a new character was finding out what my downed skills did before I got killed.

I will third this idea, this would be extremely beneficial.

I agree, this would definitely be a beneficial (and logical) addition to the skill tabs in the Hero Panel. My experiences with downed skills ties in closely with the mysterious Death Shroud skills that I’ve always wanted to be listed in the skills panel as well.

Short-short version, I agree.

  • Downed State skills, as well as Death Shroud skills, really need to be easily accessible for review while outside of those states.

Long version of my introduction to the Death Shroud Skills and Downed State Skills
It was such a shock when I first started and played a necro. I saw that the description for Death Shroud said it would give me new skills. Cool. However, it did not state that it would replace my existing skills and make them unusable while in Death Shroud.
I expected additional skills…

So I found myself nearly dead and I decided it was time to give this Death Shroud a try. I entered Death Shroud for the first time hoping to use the additional health bar to save me.

Suddenly I find all of my skills gone and replaced with completely new ones.
My response? Confusion and panic.

The Kitten-friendly version of my actual response would be something like:
“Oh, gee, I am unsure of what has just transpired.”

I then quickly began spamming Death Shroud skill 1 despite not knowing what exactly the skill was doing and assuming that it was a damaging attack. I then had to pay no attention to what was going on in combat just so I could spend a few seconds to read a few words of its description.

While I was reading I took note that my Life Force was dwindling quickly due to the damage I was sustaining. I then lost Death Shroud and my skills flipped back to my weapon skills. As I had almost no health remaining from before I entered Death Shroud, I got put into Downed State immediately for the first time. What did I find? Yet another bar of new skills to try to quickly read the descriptions on.

Yeah…was quite jarring and confusing to put it in nicer and more mild terms.

After that I had to work on building up Life Force so I could then enter Death Shroud while outside of combat. I would then just to stand there spewing blackish green smoke everywhere without an enemy in sight just so I could spend the few seconds I had built up to read each skill, one at a time. Since it didn’t last very long I had to do this across several times of building up Life Force and entering Death Shroud while out of combat before I was clear on what each skill did and what situations they would be useful in.

Ok: Death Shroud skills understood. Now to look at those Downed State skills.
I then went and found a lone, easy to kill enemy someplace and proceeded to almost kill it. I then let it beat me up and knock me into Downed State once again so I could read each skill one at a time now that I knew that I can kill the enemy with one attack.

Got to read some of the skills and was almost dead so: Skill 1 -Life Leech-
Oh, nice. I rallied! Good to know that killing the enemy lets me return to my feet immediately.

Did this another time and found that Downed State skill 4 lets me slowly get to my feet as long as the channeled skill isn’t interrupted from being attacked (can’t leech health from an enemy with skill 1 if there aren’t any around, so use skill 4).

Later found that Rangers -Throw Dirt- for Downed State skill 1 (similar to other non-necro classes) so I then had to rely on Downed State skill 4 on other classes to recover whereas necro is able to use skill 1 to damage (and potentially rally) and heal at the same time. So necro could rally/recover (whichever comes first) with skill 1, everyone else…rally with dirt/rocks if possible or hope to recover with skill 4 eventually (or a combination of both to stay alive).

None of this would have been a problem if I could review the skill descriptions in the Hero Panel like I did with the weapon and utility skills.

Mr O'Brien talked about China Version

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Honestly, I do not see anything bad in that interview. I like the detailed responses and the information provided along with their reasoning for why certain aspects of the game were better fit for each respective location. I think it was a really informative and refreshing interview.

However, one thing I do think needs some clarification to ease my mind is regarding this quote on Account Bound Dyes coming to NA/EU:

The biggest of those must be the change to the dye system. In the NA/EU launch version dyes were character unlocks, whereas in the China version they’re account unlocks. With this new system you only need to collect a dye once and you can use it on any character. This is more convenient, but it means demand for dye will go down, so we’re also reducing supply. Dye unlocks now come only from crafting and from the gem store.

Actually NA/EU players have been asking for dyes to be account unlocks for a long time and we’ll want to make essentially this same change for NA/EU. The differences will be in phrasing. In the NA/EU version players purchase dye packs from the gem store; in China players purchase dye identifiers from the gem store. Either way you purchase something and it gives you random dye, permanently unlocked for all characters on your account.

My concern with this quote is that it seems to be saying that, once implemented in NA/EU, all future dye purchases will be packs that contain random dyes from the gem store. I’m fine with this change and actually welcome it for the most part. However, I do have some more concerns on how it will be implemented:

  • Will all currently unlocked dye colors across all characters on the account become unlocked account wide?
  • If I want a specific dye will I need to buy countless dye packs and unlock random dyes until I get lucky and unlock the one I want? Is our freedom to get the color we want, when we want, gone?
    • What about rarity? Will all dyes have an equal chance to be unlocked?
  • Will the dye packs from the gem store scan our unlocked dyes upon opening the pack to prevent unlocking a dye that is already unlocked on the account so a player is guaranteed to unlock all new colors with each dye pack opened?
  • If the same color is unlocked on multiple characters, will the duplicates automatically convert to and unlock a random color? I don’t think compensation for multiple dye unlocks across multiple characters is something players should necessarily receive, but some may feel they should be compensated for the duplicate dye unlocks.
  • What will happen to all existing dyes listed on the Black Lion Trading Post?
    • Will they be destroyed without compensation to their owners?
    • Kicked off back to their owners…
      • …and become unusable, but with a vendor value? (I see issues of abuse with this)
      • …and can only be used to unlock dyes for the account or destroyed? (I see a run on dyes happening very fast)
      • …and usable only in mystic forge recipes and not for unlocking dye colors on accounts?
        • Converted to be single use dyes for dying weapons?! (I wish)

I still love this thread from over a year ago in the locked off suggestions forum.

Has a wonderful diagram outlining the hidden OP attack that the nefarious hills have.
I recommend taking a minute to read the OP.

Also, if you strafe sideways or even back and forth while moving forward down the slope then you can usually avoid the OP stealth hill attack.

Socks.

  • Ankle socks, specifically
  • Both the original GW2 dragon logo (orange) and the HoT logo (green) and not at the same time on the same sock
  • Preferably a graphic of a size larger than a coin
  • Also consider a new version of the graphic that extends down the side/top of the sock to the toes, or has a ‘flames’(orange/GW2) or ‘roots’ (green/HoT) graphic coming up from underneath the sock to encase/hold the logo on the top

(I noted ankle socks on the survey, but I placed more details above after I thought about it a bit more)

2 Week Banker Golem (timer start discrepancy)

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Updated OP

Issue: Timer activation issue
Information states the timer on the 2 Week Banker Golem does not start until its first use, though the item being received in the mail that was given away as today’s freebie starts the timer upon receipt into your inventory from the mail and not upon first activation.

Quick Jump To: Discussion taking place down below
Summary:

  • Is the timer supposed to be activated upon receipt and the info on the item is inaccurate?
  • Or is it bugged and the timer is getting activated prematurely upon receipt instead of upon first activation, potentially due to the wrong version of the item being placed into the inventory?

So it was mentioned that each day this week there would be a freebie on the gem store.

We have had a couple already, but tonight there are people saying the 2 Week Banker Golem is the freebie.

Unfortunately it seems it is only free for some people and not others.
Many are seeing it as being marked as “HOT” and still costing 500 gems with no freebie offered.

Are these people that are stating that it is today’s freebie trolling?
Is it really todays freebie?
Is it only free for certain players?
If so, is there a different freebie for the people not eligible for the banker golem freebie?
Is it just a bug that it is not a freebie for everyone?

Just curious as it is causing quite a lot of heated map chat in different zones as everyone is accusing the other side of trolling. Those who do not see it as being free accusing the other side of trying to get people to just quickly click on the “HOT” banker golem without thinking about it and paying full price. Those who say they got one free are calling the other side out as trolling by trying to trick people out of getting their freebie golem banker.

Just curious about what exactly is going on with this.

In my case, I do not see it as being a freebie. It is listed on the main page as “HOT” and is absent from the Promotions page entirely.

Pre-Purchase Community Address

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I still feel it was a bad move to try to sell the expac without a new slot from the beginning, but i’m thankful you are correcting that.
I’m still not sure that the xpac worth its price, but there is nothing wrong about that, nothing force us to pre-purchase it.

Except that it doesn’t really sound like they are correcting that, unless you pre-purchase. If you want to wait until it’s finished and released so that you know exactly what you’re getting, they’re not going to give you a character slot.

I appreciate the response from ANet, and I definitely feel as though it was a positive move, but I don’t think it’s really going to benefit me in any way. I doubt I’ll be willing to purchase HoT until it’s released, and I most definitely will not spend fifty dollars on an expansion pack that doesn’t come with a character slot.

Sigh. Still looks like a no-buy for me at this point. But I’m glad others are pleased.

I find myself in the same situation.

I cannot get the character slot for the new Revenant profession unless I make an uninformed decision and pre-purchase now versus waiting until release where I can judge if $50 is a justified price for what the expansion contains.

If I wait to make an informed decision as a responsible adult then I will need to pay an extra $10 (or 800 gems) to get an additional character slot just to be able to try out the new Revenant profession. I will not do that out of principle. I’m not going to buy an expansion that has a new profession if I then need to pay for a character slot to play this new profession.

I do not like being penalized for being a mature adult that makes smart purchases instead of ‘on faith’, especially when that faith has been shown to have been misplaced in this company several times since GW2 release.

It seems that my purchasing the expansion will be put off even longer now.

  • If the expansion contained enough content to justify the cost, and also included a character slot for the Revenant, then I would purchase on release day.
  • Even if the $50 is justified by the amount of content the expansion includes, I’ll still need to wait until a sale places it below $40 due to the cost of a character slot bumping that back up to $50.
  • As the expansion now does not include a character slot unless you pre-purchase it, the expansion will now need to contain more content than is justified by the price to compensate for the added cost of purchasing a character slot. This is unlikely.
  • If the expansion does not contain enough content to justify the cost, and also does not include a character slot for the Revenant, then I will need to wait until the price matches what the amount of content justifies as well as the cost of a character slot. If the content only justifies a $25 price tag, then the price will need to drop to at least $15 for me to buy it to factor in the additional $10 cost of the character slot I’d need to buy for the Revanant.

ANet, include the character slot for anyone that purchases the expansion, instead of only if they pre-purchase the expansion, and I’ll purchase the game on release day if the content justifies the price. Otherwise, see the above scenarios as to when you can potentially expect my money…if you ever do.

Game Updates: Guild World Events, Megaservers, WvW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Regarding nibblesalil’s question on the increase of trolls due to megaserver:

I started reporting and blocking dozens of players since megaserver went active. I finally just gave up wasting my time with that anymore and have permanently shut my chat off.

Reporting does not really amount to anything at all, despite what some say, as the same players with their sexualized and immature names and highly inappropriate comments and conversations are still around day after day of reporting for months. I don’t expect them to suddenly start actually doing something about these players…or the guild names for that matter…the horrible, horrible guild names with full swear words and of gang kitten and violent “deflowering” and much, much worse. Nothing is done about those. Why must one screenshot the player and their guild name and then come here and file a complaint to support to get the guild name looked at. Why can’t we file an Inappropriate Character Name report in-game and then the person who looks at the report take 2 additional seconds to also look at the guild names this character is in. Or add an Inappropriate Guild Name option to the in-game report?

I do not even know if there is a maximum limit to the block list, but it will not matter as the trolls carry on conversations in /emote knowing full well that blocking them does not block what they say in that. And to even block a person being inappropriate in /emote one must manually enter their name to the contacts list and then report/block them. And with the /emote range being so insanely far, I see inappropriate emote conversations almost no matter where I go in a map. We’ve begged ANet to fix the block function, they refuse to do so.

And that is just chat trolls. This megaserver being forced on all of us has also made my fears realized. One day after it’s forced on us and there is no getting away from other players. There is no peaceful exploring any longer. It is always a dozen players running across your screen at all times.

It only took 2 days of megaserver being live for me to find myself getting trolled by a mob of flamethrower engineers constantly following me around and flaming me and everything else around me. Finally they moved on to trolling someone else and I was relieved…and then I felt bad knowing what that person was then going through.

Yes, trolls are everywhere and unavoidable now, even with chat disabled. I’m not sure if I like the game anymore. The main thing I derived enjoyment from in this game, and was the main reason I enjoyed playing, was taking a pleasant stroll through the woods and mountainside where I could appreciate the sounds, the art, atmosphere… To go on a hike down trails or to simulate camping and surviving in the woods…to hunt for my food. ANet has made it clear that they now seem to want no form of roleplaying to be done or able to be done in their game.

Yes, I’m quite disappointed.

Where does my money go?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Projected profit does not include the 5% listing fee, just the 10% sales fee.
You need to manually deduct the displayed listing fee from the projected profit to see what actual profit you will be making on the entire sale, if any.

1s = Sell Price
5c = Listing Fee
10c = Sales Fee
90c = Displayed Projected Profit
85c = Actual Profit on the sale (profit as long as vending nets less than 85c)

If it vends for 99c and you sell it to a 1s buy order, you actually lose 15c on the sale and should have instead sold to a vendor (or salvaged, but that’s a different discussion).

Yes, it is very silly and poorly designed. :\

Dye Changes Feedback/Questions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/45889307-Dyes

With changes made to the dye system in April, 2014, how are dyes allocated and distributed?
With the updates to the dye system, dyes no longer will be specific to one character on your account. This means that once you unlock a dye on one of your characters, the dye will be available for use on all of your characters.

How will I obtain dyes in the future?
With dyes becoming account unlocks, the demand for dye will decrease and unidentified dyes no longer will drop as loot but still will be available from the Mystic Forge and select in-game rewards.

With the new dye system, how will dyes be unlocked?
Each dye that one of your characters currently has unlocked will become available to every character on your account when you log in with that character. This means that if Character A has Green Dye unlocked, it will not be available to the rest of your characters until you log in with Character A. Once you do that, any character may use the dye.

What happens with dyes that I have unlocked on multiple characters?
Upon logging in with a character, the game will check to see whether each specific dye on that character’s profile has been unlocked. If the dye already has been unlocked because a different character previously unlocked that specific dye on your account, the game will determine each instance where this took place and then will send you an in-game mail with an unidentified dye for each dye that was duplicated on your account. This means if four characters have Violet Dye, one will convert into an account-wide Violet Due and any other character that had Violet Dye will be sent an unidentified dye via in-game mail once that character is logged into the game. If you do not receive the in-game mails sent to your characters to replace duplicate dyes, check to make sure that your inbox is not at 10/10 mails. If it is, delete several mails (those identified with a white envelope) to make room for the delivery mail.

Won't be getting Legendary armor!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Well i’ve read through this thread and it has yet to be established that there is any actual problem. As such I see no reason to change anything.

The vast majority of items can only be acquired by doing their associated content. There is no reason for legendary armor to be any diffent.

Want PvP armor… you must PvP
Want Chak weapons… you must play TD
Want Bladed armor… you must play VB
Want PvP mini… you must do ranked PvP
Want extra shiny PvP… you must reach the top 100 in ranked PvP
Want legendary armor… you must do raids
Want new legendary weapons… you must do all HoT content

I could go on for another 100 lines or so, but the fact is that almost ALL skins, titles, and armor in this game are tied to very specific content and can’t be acquired elsewhere. The only things that can be are base items that came with launch, and gemstore items that can be purchased with gold.

This is partly the reason why I feel all cosmetic/fluff/toy items should be sold in the gem store. I’ve seen complaints about the game being too gem store-focused, I personally feel that it is nowhere near gem store-focused enough and most, if not all of the stuff in the game should be available from there.

In my ideal game, we would all be able to play the content we enjoy (play the way we want) and earn gold doing it. Nobody would have to grind out unenjoyable/restrictive content for a real long time just to get a desired item, or even a piece of a desired item, and then repeat that no-fun grind again for another piece. We could all then play what we want, have a fun time playing the game, earn gold and then spend that earned gold on the item of our choice at the gem store.

Some content would clearly give more gold than others based on ‘difficulty’ or skill requirements, but nobody would be locked out from being able to acquire something. Everyone having access to all of the same items regardless of what content they enjoy playing makes sense to me.

If someone wants an item from the gem store sooner, they can buy it with coin earned in the real world from grinding unenjoyable content for a shiny.

I never understood why MMORPG developers felt they were required to lock ‘rewards’ behind different content. Forcing someone to have to play content they do not enjoy to get a specific reward is insulting, to the players and to the designers of that content. People should want to take part in the content you designed because it is fun and they enjoy taking part in that content, not because you tied a highly desired item to completing that content umpteen thousand times. Even if one does not enjoy that content, they are required to take part in it a ridiculous amount if they want the shiny. What does that say about the content then, where what seems to be the main reason people are even playing it is because it is required if they want the shiny, not because it is fun. That’s … pretty sad, and disappointing.

I think games should be fun and an enjoyable way to spend one’s time. Locking aesthetics behind hours upon hours of grinding content that some may not enjoy is not something I agree with, or support. Then again, perhaps I am the only one that feels this way, and that’s cool – it’s just my opinion.

Will never do it until World Completion is made to be completion of the actual Tyrian World Map and no longer forces players into WvW to chart the same areas over and over and over again (fake areas that don’t exist on the long-established Tyrian World Map) simply because they want to try to force players into modes of the game that they may otherwise have no interest in just to get it. They can keep their carrot, I’ll stick to the modes of play that I enjoy to get the things I want. If I can’t get the things I want while playing how I want, then I don’t get them…simple as that. Not getting it doesn’t bother me…it’s just disappointing that they would cheapen what that achievement used to stand for by tying it to their agenda of forcing as many players as possible to take part in their pet project of a game mode when it has nothing to do with what that achievement is actually for doing.

Next patch (7/15/14) - "Entanglement"

in Living World

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Indeed. I can see it now:

  • Vines spread via waypoint system
  • Waypoint system gets taken offline (permanently?) to stop the spread of the vines
  • Players must travel everywhere by foot
  • New convenience only Gem Store item!
    • Mobile Waypoint Device! 1,000 gems (costs 10 silver per use)
  • New cosmetic only Gem Store items!
    • New Mount Designs!
“Why travel on foot when you can traverse the landscapes in style on your own personal llama, bicycle or wheeled cart?!”
      - Same functionality as the Enchanted Broom and Sonic Tunneling Tool – does not provide any movement speed bonuses.

And in a couple of days...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

StinVec.3621

I have a lot of faith in the development team and I greatly respect their abilities and what they’ve been able to achieve.

What I do not have faith in are the businessmen and women who make such decisions as forcing an unfinished update out to live, despite the likely protests and warnings of the developers, simply because of some unrealistic date that was most likely only announced and advertised as a marketing decision to preempt the date of another MMORPG becoming f2p.

After their likely being informed that it would not (and never could have been) ready by that date and that everything would need at least another two weeks to get it to a proper release state or risk serious issues, it was given an extra six days past the announced date to get the seriously bad issues sorted out and was forcibly released with just the mess of major issues remaining thanks to the hard work of the developers prioritizing and ironing out the seriously bad ones prior to the forced release.

I have nothing but respect for the developers, for the people doing the actual creation of the game. The complete opposite is true for those that keep sabotaging it with their agendas, business plans and unrealistic goals.

So to the developers, to the people doing the actual work, thank you for grinding out fixes for the remaining issues. I was not really affected by a lot of the issues that came with this update, or at least not really inconvenienced by most of them, but the one I am affected by to a great degree is the UI lag and I look forward to its being fixed when it can be addressed.

[Changed!] Make Unlocked BL Chests AB, not SB

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Unlocked black lion chests are soulbound, apparently.

So you have:

  • Unbound black lion chests that are fully tradeable without a vendor value
  • Account Bound Keys
  • Opened chests only produce account bound or unbound goods

…yet the unlocked chests are Soulbound on Acquire?

As cited as being an issue in this recent account issue thread, this behavior is highly undesired and illogical for these items.

All current and future unlocked black lion chests should be converted to be account bound as should have always been their behavior.

Please consider correcting this.

Mouse losing focus -right click to turn not working [Merged]

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I’ve finally determined the cause of the issue.

I disassembled many optical, laser, wired and wireless mice to find a common defect within them. I disassembled several variations of the Razer Naga mice, a Razer Copperhead (my favorite mouse), several Logitech mice, a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer, and a few generic brand mice. I found the same exact issue to be present in all of these mice.

The quick and easy way of explaining it (with the Razer Naga as an example) is:

  • The flat piece on the under side of the button that contacts the ‘click’ activation button becomes worn down due to being made of soft plastic and because the mouse buttons can move side to side slightly. (arrows on attached image)
  • This leads to the button activating with gentle pressure applied to the center of the button until it clicks (red prohibited symbol on attached image), but adding a little bit more pressure causes the worn down soft plastic to slip off of the activation button slightly…leading to stuttering activation based on pressure and angle.
  • Because of this, you will need to push against the outer right side of the mouse button (green target on attached image) to fully activate the button as pushing at an angle causes an area of plastic that is not worn down to contact the activation button.

[Suggestion] Color Blind Mode (merged)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Good Thread
Pretty informative thread on Reddit on this topic I just discovered.
http://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/1nkduo/adding_colourblind_modes_to_a_game

SweetFX/FXAAPPI/GemFX
There seem to be ways of utilizing SweetFX to correct colors for those with differing degrees of colorblindness.
Discussion here: http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/sweetfx-shader-suite-download,37.html
And the shader linked in that post: http://ninjafada.com/sweetfx/colorblind/ColorBlind.h
I’m sure there are a lot of discussions and shaders for this issue by players.
May want to dig into using SweetFX or a similar program (FXAAPPI, GemFX, etc) to compensate for colors.

Overlay Programs
EyePilot

  • There is (or was) a program called EyePilot that is an overlay for any open application that can be configured to correct color issues. Would need to run the game in windowed/windowed fullscreen mode to allow overlays to be on top of the game window, as with any overlay program. The www.colorhelper.com website doesn’t load for me so perhaps the program is no longer maintained, but I’m sure it can be found and tested if people are inclined to search for it and give it a shot.
    http://labnol.blogspot.com/2006/03/eyepilot-colors-for-color-blind.html

Visolve

  • I’ve not looked into this other app called Visolve, but a quick browsing of their site seems like it would be a great toolto give a try.
    https://www.ryobi-sol.co.jp/visolve/en/
It says: “Visolve is the software tool that transforms colors of the computer display into the discriminable colors for various people including people with color vision deficiency, commonly called color blindness. In addition to the color conversion, it also has color filtering and hatching capabilities.”

Hope some of this helps someone.

Does it really count as a dare if it’s physically impossible?

For anyone wondering why the number is so large, it’s 2 to the power of 32 minus one, which basically means it’s the highest value able to be stored in a 32-bit number. No one is actually expected to reach that ceiling.

(2^32 = 4,294,967,296
but you have to subtract one, since you have to count zero as a number. Isn’t binary fun!)

Of all the many and separate (sigh) threads on this subject that have been posted, your response gets my vote for being the best comment in any of them.

2014: Where is Character Progression?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

@OP: It’s 2 healing skills (you forgot Antitoxin Spray), and you forgot the 5 new traits too.

Keep in mind that the Ascended gear was released slowly over time. With hastened rates. And we got new stat combinations as well (Apothecary’s, Sentinel’s, Settler’s, Celestial’s, Zealot’s, etc.). So while when you look at things in generals such as “Ascended gear” then it’ll look smaller than the progression has actually done, making it look like a single update rather than the 5 updates Ascended gear alone was.

Also, it’s been 1.5 years, not 2 years. Yes, it matters.

Heya, Konig.
It released on August 28, 2012. So technically it has been 1.75 years (a few days shy of 1 year and 9 months).
Not being a troll, just pointing it out.

Belliegerence and Vulgar Language

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

With regards to obscene guild names, is reporting individual players the best way to address the issue?

A ticket is better. The report options have nothing to do with the guild name so they won’t know that’s what you are trying to report. Get the Display name and character name as well as the guild name and tag and report it on a ticket.

Correct. Please submit a ticket. The in-game report is expressly for character names.

What do we do for pet names? I’ve seen a few rangers running around with pets that have some obscene names, and others downright derogatory towards a certain demographic.

One of the changes I have really been hoping for regarding ranger pets (among many), is that I really wish they would just change pet names to being visible only to the ranger that owns the pet. All other players will see the standard “Juvenile Thingy” name or “Tamed Thingy” to prevent issues of other rangers thinking it is an animal that is free for them to tame. This would completely remove inappropriate ranger pet names as being an issue.

Character slots increased with expansion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Without a source, Blueblob, I recommend disregarding the above commenter as likely trolling.

Maximum slots per account is likely to remain at 64. I’ve not seen anything mentioned anywhere of plans to increase the maximum slot number. If you already have 64, then it is unlikely to add an additional slot despite your purchase awarding you one. Just as if you have the maximum bank tabs unlocked on your account and purchase another, it will not add another bank slot. It that situation you’d need to contact support directly and request a refund for the gems spent on that bank tab. But in pre-ordering HoT, I doubt they can supply a refund for the equivalent of the character slot due to your being at the maximum. You would need to contact them directly and inquire about that situation.

It is especially heart-wrenching when she does that sad, sad scream as she is running toward me and is only welcomed with me turning and running away again.

Scarlet is the BEST villain in GW2

in Twilight Assault

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I feel the people who excessively dislike Scarlet didn’t actually read anything about her and just think she’s a joker clone

Edit: there is reason and a cause behind her actions.

But none of that information to read on her or the reasons behind her actions are included in-game. If it is important then it should be included in-game. Even after reading the out-of-game information on her it is even more evident that she is a joker clone, and a poor, uninspired or creative one at that.

It is really disappointing to me that any person can think up a deeper and more believable backstory in 5 seconds for the Owl and Raccoon that wander around together in Queensdale than has been included in-game (and out-of-game) for Scarlet Briar.

I can't attack with left mouse click anymore?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

In your options, do you have the “Double-click to Attack/Interact” option checked?
Having this checked requires a double left click to attack or interact. Un-check this box to switch it back to a single left click to attack.

Sorry, I had that information wrong. I thought you were trying to make it target and auto-attack with a single left click, which isn’t possible. If you want it to be a double left click to target and attack, check/enable the “Double-click to Attack/Interact” option if it somehow got disabled.

It is:

  • Single Left click selects targets and does not attack.
  • Double Left click selects and auto-attacks a target IF you have the “Double-click to Attack/Interact” option enabled (on by default) AND you have a skill marked for auto-cast (control-right-click).
  • Single Right click selects and auto-attacks a target IF you have the “Right-click to interact/attack” option enabled (on by default) AND you have a skill marked for auto-cast (control-right-click).

Dye Tab

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

I honestly expected the changes to the Hero Panel to include all dyes on the dye tab to where any dye can be previewed.

Locked dyes would be grayed out and a message would appear stating that the player would need to purchase/unlock locked dyes to then be able to apply the changes were there to be a locked dye in use on the preview.

Could then Right-click > Buy on trading post on the locked dyes.

Why it wasn’t released this way I cannot even begin to guess as it seems quite logical to have done it when they made the changes to the Hero Panel Appearance/Dye tabs.

Kicked from low population map?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

They are obviously testing out the new “volunteer” move feature with some stricter numbers on closing and rotating maps. I got the Volunteer thing yesterday but have yet to be “kicked”…..are you at least getting a warning in chat (like when they force an update log out)?

Their goal to consolidate lower population maps is in direct conflict with the minipet culling fiasco, so I’m interested to see how they plan to handle this situation.

I did receive the pop-up notice of the dwindling population and the offer of gaining the buff if I choose to “volunteer” to leave some time before the end of the hour, at which time the map will auto close.

There was no message in chat regarding the pop-up, just the pop-up.

I chose to select the “later” option and it was minimized down to the chest area above my minimap.

Hovering on the icon would say I have 56 minutes (or however much time) remaining to voluntarily leave the map and receive the buff before it is automatically closed.

5 minutes later I was forcibly kicked out of the instance to another copy of the map.
Not 56 minutes later. 5 minutes.

And there was also no message in chat about my being kicked immediately.

I figured I would wait until the last few minutes left on the timer so I could enjoy the time in the empty zone. If I’m going to be kicked to a more populated version, might as well grab the buff at the last minute since I’m getting booted under protest and it’ll soften the blow slightly.

Having been forcibly kicked out to another instance of the map after only five minutes, I did not receive the buff due not actually selecting to leave the map.

I’m not too pleased with how that is functioning currently.

Flame* armor (w/ constructive crit.)

in Fractured

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Pro Re-skinning
First I would like to state that I am not only completely fine with having alternate versions of cultural armor (or any armor), I actually encourage more alternate variations to be released that have different elements removed or added. Options for appearances are crucial to myself any many other players to fully enjoy this game. Ideally I would prefer the alternate appearances and elements of cultural armors to be able to be toggled off and on as well as being fully dyeable. I do not see offering alternate forms of existing armors (re-skinning) as being lazy, but as a way to offer us, the players, with many more options to achieve the look we desire within existing armor designs. I fully understand what goes into designing an entirely new armor set in this game and I do not mind the long time it can take when creating them, but take your time and do them right to justify the gem cost (non-human character elements fully considered; charr horns/tail, asura ears/toes). While new designs are being created, offer us more variations of existing designs and a way to customize elements of them so they are not simply cookie-cutter static designs.

Anti-Cultural Armor
I’m actually against the concept of cultural armor as armor designs should have already been culturally designed from the start. An armor worn on a charr should not have the same appearance as that armor on a human only stretched out to fit their non-human body. I’m not saying that every single armor in the game should have a uniquely designed appearance based on the species/gender wearing it, that would take forever to design. However, that human armor could easily have slight tweaks made to it to make it appear more like what a charr would actually wear; remove the sleeves and show off those powerful furry arms, remove the backs of the legs so they’re more like covers/chaps and not form-fitting and fur-constricting pants. Give each piece of an armor design (base human most likely) one hour of attention and it can be made more appropriate for non-human species, thus removing the need for “cultural” armor and allowing all armor for that species to be appropriate for them.

I’m also against the retaining of armor weight class restrictions in a non-trinity mmorpg, but that’s another argument entirely.

Pro-Class Armor
I am, however, completely for armor designs that are restricted to only being available to each class through their class trainers. In their current form, having an individual trainer for each class serves absolutely no purpose. Players do not learn new skills from these trainers and the trait manuals are completely generic in that any class can use each manual tier regardless of where it was acquired (TP/a manual my thief got from their trainer can be used by my mesmer). Class trainers also do not even offer a unique service of resetting traits. There are ‘Trait Reset’ NPCs whose only purpose is to reset traits regardless of your class. And with the new single-use trait reset items, one does not have to even visit an NPC to reset their traits.

Where Do We Go From here
Removing the human t3 cultural armor from the gem store and from players who purchased it is never going to happen as much as many may wish it could be. It would be a logistical nightmare to remove it from sale, refund the gems to players who purchased it (not sure about refunding money back to cards/banks for the gems if they even do that), remove the skin from every single item in the game that the skin was applied to and replace the skin that was previously on those items, other issues not thought of.

Due to this ‘can of worms being opened’, they must focus on addressing this cultural armor issue in its entirety. A bonus for the players is that other issues can be addressed at the same time for the benefit and fairness of all.

I’ve outlined my proposal to resolve this situation here.

Loud random 'bang' sound?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

is it really that loud?

try setting you enviornmental/terrain sound effects down. That helped for me. (also, because for some reason waterfalls or water effects is super loud sometimes, so another reason I have my enviornmental/terrain sound down about 2/3-1/2).

It is extremely loud and piercing. The loud noise still occurs even if the Master Volume slider is all the way down to zero. We’ve also tested with each individual slider controls turned off and the sound still happens. It isn’t attributable to any area of game sound as it completely ignores any volume slider. We’ve also tested with every level of Sound Quality, Music Interval and Mixing Buffer Size to see if it could be attributed to one of those and it still would occur.

I’m still doing other tests to see if I can pinpoint what it might be related to, though I still think it may be related to the awesomium_process.exe that is created in a temporary folder and is used by GW2 for the TP to function. I’m working on some tests relating to that process now to see if I can go at least a few hours without the bang happening.

What WEIRD stuff do YOU do in-game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I do many of the things mentioned so far. It is interesting to see that others do as well.

I like to make an exit
One thing I do that I do not notice others doing is that I try to make a flashy departure by using a skill when I disappear from others’ screens due to my waypointing/logging:

  • Mesmer – Usually hit greatsword #3 (mind stab) right on my feet and log as the ‘spiky-things’ shoot upward around me.
  • Ranger – Usually hit my Strength of the Pack elite and log right when the wispy fire stuff or whatever swirls around and hits me like I’m a Highlander experiencing The Quickening. That or I use the Entangle elite and log right when I impact the ground when vines and smoke burst up.
  • Warrior – I think I normally hit the Signet of Rage elite. I think that is the one where you stick your arms out and some burst effect happens or something.
  • Necro – I normally hit Spectral Walk and log right when I turn to transparent green mist-form as if I phased out of existence.
  • Ele – I used to hit an aura shield skill to make it seems as though I exploded into particles of that element…but you know…aura nerf, so no more of that. Now I sometimes simply drop a Fiery Greatsword on myself as I log.
  • Engi – I Sometimes drop the elite supply crate on myself and log on impact, other times a random elixir and log at the end of the consume animation.
  • Guardian – Do not play it
  • Thief – Do not play it often
  • Revenant – Do not own it

This is probably something I do because of the ‘teleport home’ skill we had some years ago when I played Rift. You could teleport back to the main city using a skill, but it would take like 10 seconds to cast it (and an hour cooldown or something) and the skill effect was a swirly vortex that you’d disappear into at the end of the cast. I always liked seeing someone cast a spell and then disappear or materialize slowly when they log in instead of people just disappearing from existence or materializing out of nowhere, which is pretty immersion-breaking to me. After defeating a boss there would be a huge number of vortices dwindling down to none where it was kind of a mini-game to see if you’d be the last to port out. Here we have an instantaneous mass disappearance of a huge number of people. Not really a big deal, I know, but I notice it and I do not particularly like it, so I do what I do.

Tabs in Gem Store not loading

StinVec.3621

Try to:

Clear the game cache
Most TP-specific issues are primarily related to some temporary GW2 files where removing them will allow them to be recreated and the TP to function properly again.

The quickest way to clear the GW2 Cache is to:

  1. Ensure your game is completely closed.
  2. Hold your “Windows Key” and press “F” to open Windows Search on your computer.
  3. Search for “gw2cache
  4. It will find a folder called “gw2cache-{bunch-of-letters-and-numbers}” at:
    “C:\Users\YourComputerUserName\AppData\Local\Temp”
  5. Delete this “gw2cache-{bunch-of-letters-and-numbers}” folder that is shown in the results.
  6. Load up your game normally and your TP should now function properly.

If your search for “gw2cache” does not produce the folder I mentioned, then you will need to enable hidden files and folders in order to delete this cache folder.

Make hidden files visible and clear the game cache

  1. Close your game completely.
  2. Browse your My Computer to: “C:\Users\YourComputerUserName”
  3. Then in the window menus, click on “Tools” then “Folder Options…”
  4. In the window that pops up, click the “View” tab
  5. Select to “Show hidden files, folders and drives” and click ‘OK’ (attached image #1)
  6. You should now see a folder in your file listing called “AppData”, open this folder
  7. Inside that folder open the “Local” folder
  8. Inside that folder open the “Temp” folder
  9. You should now see a folder called “gw2cache-{bunch-of-letters-and-numbers}”. Delete this gw2cache folder.
  10. Load up your game normally and see if the issue is fixed.

note
By “window menus” I mean up at the top of the window where it says “File Edit View Tools Help”. If that bar does not display in your window for you along the top, then click the drop-down arrow next to the word “Organize” and then click on “Layout” and select “Menu bar” to enable showing of the menus (attached image #2).

Another way to do Steps 3, 4 and 5 to make hidden folders visible is:

  • Click your Start menu and then open Control Panel
  • In your Control Panel, if items are sorted by “Category” then select “Appearance and Personalization” on the right side, then in the second bottom area under “Folder Options” click on “Show hidden files and folders”. This will open the same options dialogue box shown in attached image #1.
  • Otherwise, if Control Panel is sorted by Icons, simply click on “Folder Options” from the list to bring up the options dialogue box shown in attached image #1.

Guild Upgrades Vanished

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World#Transferring

“When you move, you will lose access to all your guild improvements on your original world (unless you move back). This includes any guild vault and all of its contents. Accordingly, if you have any items stored in a group or personal guild vault, be sure to move them to one of your existing characters and/or your personal bank before transferring.”

You would need to fully transfer back to the server that has the upgrades to once again access them.

Log-r-tron, glint's mask in the gemstore

Glad the blue mask was finally released. Looking forward to a purple one now.

Lookin’ good.

(I also noticed you have “Glint’s Glazing Mask” written everywhere, even on your youtube video title, but it is “Glint’s Gaze Mask”. Gaze, not glazing. Just pointing it out. Now I really want some donuts.)

New Years Character Slot Sale Please

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

ArenaNet, would you please consider putting character slots on sale for the New Year as this is the perfect time for this sale to be offered; a new year, a new character, a fresh start…it makes perfect sense. I expect it would garner many additional character slot purchases due to this time of starting a new year.

[Suggestions] Gemstore Items

Endless transmutation charge, and endless gathering tools without any special animation.

Very much both of these. The main reason for my not purchasing any of the infinite tools is due to their having undesirable animations. I do not think an infinite tool with the standard skin is an absurd thing to desire.

Broken Minimap?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

If dragging your mini-map down to be positioned in the bottom of the screen does not correct the zoom of it, then it seems that you may have a damaged file in the GW2 database. You should run a repair on your client and see if it corrects the issue.

Check the game for errors and repair it

  • Close your game completely.
  • Next, make a copy of your Gw2 game shortcut and rename it “GW2 Repair” or to something that you will recognize it for being only for running a repair on your GW2 installation.
  • Now, right-click this “Gw2 Repair” shortcut and click on “Properties”.
  • On the “Shortcut” tab look in the “Target:” field, you should see:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2” or wherever you have Guild Wars 2 installed.
  • After the closing quotation marks in this line put a single space and then add -repair
It will look like this but with your GW2 install location:
    “C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2” -repair
  • Hit OK after making this change.
  • Run this repair shortcut. Your game will run through a repair cycle and fix any damaged files it finds.
  • After it runs through, start the game using the normal GW2 game shortcut (not the repair shortcut) and see if your mini-map displays properly.

June 23 Specialization Changes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

I just cannot comprehend why they would do all of this, and before the release of HoT no less.

It’s almost as if they are intentionally trying to destroy as many game modes and professions as possible prior to HoT release. It’s almost as if their intention is to drive as many of their players as possible past their breaking point of how many beatings they will accept before giving up completely and leave right before the “expansion” gets released. Do they actually want as few people to buy it as possible? These changes are intentional and final…and the great majority are bad. What do they expect to happen? It’s very likely that what they expect to happen is exactly what they can count on happening; some (many?) players finally just give up and quit for good.

Constantly messing with everything that a player understands and is used to and giving it a complete overhaul (yet again), and not in a good way (yet again), can only end badly. A person will only take so much before enough is enough.

If “some players possibly quitting for good” actually turns out to be “a lot of players definitely quitting for good”, then sales of HoT will not be anything like what it may have been had these “changes” not been forced onto the playerbase.

For me, what little interest I had in HoT (sig) is practically dead. But now even the base game that I quite enjoy is being further destroyed in a single patch that sees every profession being utterly destroyed in some way.

  • From my point of view, they’re telling me to not play the base game any longer. (they’ve been telling me this for quite a while through their changing and destroying every aspect of the game that I enjoyed)
  • They’re also telling me to not buy their supposed “expansion” as it does not offer the things that would interest me for well over twice what it is worth for what they’ve shown it to include.

It makes me so disappointed to see what they’ve done to the game. It is almost as if they saw what other game companies were doing that resulted in their literally killing their games and were like, “Fantastic! We want to kill our game too! Thank you, other-companies-that-do-not-want-people-to-play-their-games, for showing us the most effective way to do it!” And they’re doing it. Actually, they’ve been doing it for quite a while.

I also guess players abandoning ship was going too slowly for them and they needed to jump ahead to drive home the last nails for the coffin to push the last few hopeful players off of their fences by forcing everyone who owns the game to have to buy the game yet again just for the expansion. $20, maybe, for what it has been shown to include.

That’s it for me. They’ve pretty much killed the base game with their “changes” and the next day basically tell people to not buy the expansion unless you enjoy being taken advantage of or are not able to see a rip off designed by the greed machine when it stares you in the face. May pick it up one day when it’s down to an honest price for what it offers. As it is now, you can keep it. Those that do stick around…well, I hope you have fun.

A nice fix.

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Problem:

Huge lag since F2P patch (mostly in PvP).

Solution:

Stop with HOT and fix the core game instead.

PS: No I don’t have a bad connection neither a computer from the stone age…

What are the stats for your computer?
What settings do you have enabled?

Indeed. Crucial details to include if they actually intend for their issue to get resolved. Then again, they technically have not asked for help yet, so maybe they are content with experiencing their lag issue. However, if they’d be willing to give some more details on their problem, here are some more that would help pinpoint the issue(s).

FOX, there are several different kinds of lag, each with their own root causes.

  • What kind of lag are you experiencing? Graphical, data, input, connection? All or some of them at different times?
  • You mentioned “mostly in PvP”, so I take it that it is not a constant issue and comes and goes intermittently in different scenarios and situations. What are some specific situations where you encounter this lag?
  • Do you experience this exact issue in other online games?
  • Have you tried contacting GW2 support to see if they can help you? Or even requested help in the technical support sub-forum? Or have you sat in silence on the issue you are experiencing until making this thread?

Answering these may help.

Otherwise, I’d quote FOX with their own words:

Anet for the 19.737.928 time, close useless topics like this faster!

Radiant Gloves preview light & mid bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

Screenshots of this issue. The image shows that I am clearly a Necromancer and wear light armor, but the achievement chest award screen presents me with a Heavy version of the skin to preview.

Upon accepting the Radiant gloves skin, the skin in my inventory also shows a preview of the Heavy version, thus removing my armor in the preview. The skin that is now in my Achievement Unlocks also shows the Heavy version upon trying to preview it, as well as the additional skin in my inventory that I manually withdrew from the unlock panel.
