No, I didn’t forget. Bountiful Theft requires Steal to connect to grant its effects. Negating a steal pretty much tosses it out. Vigorous Training just happens.

Spider Venom and Signet of Agility have their own thing. Vulture and Griffon stance has their own thing. Signet of Agility refills peeps endurance and cleanses conditions, Griffon stance provides an uncorruptable buff that is essentially 8s of vigor in 4s for allies and grants a no ICD might when evading attacks.

Spider Venom is a straight up DPS increase and heal debuff while Vulture offers might to allies to take down targets above 50% health, and then weakens their healing with additional DPS while they are below it.

One is not better than the other, and are different enough to fit different scenarios and settings. Come on, man. We all know apples are better than oranges.

Think “Low-Hanging Fruit” and then go even lower. Any suggestion for animation changes are a no-no, they don’t have/want to put in the time for it. Whatever changes for pet functionality or handling pet functionality (F1-4) scratch those ideas as well – that fruit is just too kitten high for them.

I do like some of your suggestions though such as Hunter’s Shot functioning like Mercy Shot. As for some other suggestions, I believe there were some threads about how Rangers would like to see Warhorn 4 inflict blindness and Maul become a Blast Finisher. I personally don’t like the knockdown suggestions for them except Throw from Greatsword counter, a knockdown from that seems right (matches Nightmare Court enemies that do the same).

As for your Axe suggestion on making it like sword (melee), I wanted something like this, too. Could be done if the sword attack animations were to be changed to the regular sword chain and the current sword animations to be moved on Axe, but then that opens up another can of worms for those that like how Axe 1 functions currently.

As for not being satisfied with the current state of Rangers, I’ve focused on using other classes when playing the game and use my Ranger to complete the daily. Love the class and don’t care for it all at the same time.

This is why this game needs official DPS meters, so clueless people who live in WvW/sPvP can be helped to grasp the concept of DPS as clearly they are confusing their rapid fire burst and raven F2 for DPS.

That and go back to splitting skills for different modes. When they decided to throw skill splits out the window, balancing became more difficult on their end in regards to the 3 diverse modes.

Problems with the new CA cooldown

The cooldown increase isn’t all that bad. Druid’s been nerfed a lot since release, but I’m hoping the other elite specs eat more nerfs, too.

I personally liked Druid, as well as all of the other elite specs, during the beta testing phases, as they were definitely side-grades compared to the now almost-mandatory power creeps.

That’s just me though, as I’m sure others would disagree, but we can at least agree to disagree. Just don’t nerf the Pets anymore.

I’d hold off until the 23rd. If Irenio adds any conditions to the Druid, Apothecary would be a nice alternative to Cleric’s. If it remains direct damage & healing, then opt for Cleric’s, unless you have the coin, then invest into Zealot recipes if you haven’t already unlocked them from the Marionette event way back when.

Just to recap on what Jon Peters touched up on when the Ranger main-hand sword was being discussed back in December about a year ago. These were his responses (in order).

1st Post

Main-hand sword
I just want to clarify for good that main hand sword is currently working as intended. All movement skills cannot be interrupted by dodging and this is currently intentional. It has a very specific play style, and I would like it to remain. I understand that rangers want a one handed melee option that is more mobile, but that will have to wait, as I know there are a mix of players who also like how this weapon plays and I do not want to take away one of the more unique playstyles that we have and replace it with something that is fairly common.

Keeping it focused and simple.

1. Fortifying Bond

  • Stability instead of Vigor – that’s all I want.

2. Sword auto-chain Kick

  • I want it to cleave. Devs aren’t going to change the animation, so at least have it cleave.

3. Spirits

  • Storm Spirit Swiftness replaced with 3-seconds of Blind instead and keep the 10 second ICD – there are other means of getting swiftness and Storm Spirit can be a more viable group utility in all modes.
  • Water Spirit ICD lessened to 2-seconds and active cleanses 2 conditions – make it useful for kittens sake.

So, we have the Sand Lion and the Cheetah. The Cheetah having its F2 shadowstep to its target is great – but it provides swiftness.

The Sand Lion has a faster (half the time of Jungle Stalker’s) roar which releases a quick pulsing blind, which is neat, but falls a bit short with Go For The Eyes.

Since the first pulse and the trait will blind at the same time, Rangers are essentially losing out negating 1 extra attack, assuming rapid, multi-hit strikes.

I suggest 2 changes to both of these new Feline’s F2 skills, one of which is to bring synergy with the Soulbeast, and the other to utilize a new mechanic introduced with Path of Fire.

  • Cheetah’s F2 swiftness is replaced with quickness.
    This allows synergy with Soulbeast’s Essence of Speed where acquiring quickness extends the duration of boons the Soulbeast has on them by 2 seconds. Better to reduce the duration since the F2 provides group quickness to 1½s for a combined 3s of quickness with both of its strikes.
  • Sand Lion’s pulsing blind attack replaced with a non-damaging roar that provides nearby allies with a Sand Barrier.
    Let’s change this feline up and justify it’s lengthy F2 cooldown by altering it’s Blinding Roar into a Shielding Roar. A feline that can provide a defensive option, applying the new Barrier mechanic to negate some damage on you and your allies.

Staff Changes 2016

I’d like to see a fine-tuning of Vine Surge to work like Revenant’s Inspiring Reinforcement. In that sense, have the vines fire out in 7 cascading sections as it currently does, then after the final section has occurred, the entire trail becomes a single path of vines that pulses the 1½s immobilize for 3s.

It’s already slow and hard to hit on a skirmishing basis, so it might as well be punishing for those caught in it. Keep the damage and condition cleanse on the cascading effects and the immobilize on the AOE pulses though.

I would prefer Empathic Bond to stay in Wilderness Survival and be improved. Lowering the internal cooldown does not address its passive and weak nature. If Empathic Bond were to be given the ability to transfer up to 3 conditions from the pet onto a single-target with [F2] commands, it would add some active play to the trait and provide a way to relieve some conditions from the pet, along with the reward of using those conditions offensively.

Juvenile Fire Wyvern[Feedback]

Heim pretty much summed up everything pointed out by the community after the reveal during TwitchCon and experience during BWE3. The developers must have some wierd [and terrible] balancing philosophy when it comes to pets.

I think what disappointed me the most was our Electric Wyvern doesn’t get the laser beam mouth of death, nor does his charge leave behind multiple lightning AOEs that pulse like the open-world version does.

The Fire Wyvern is just as half-kittened, with no fireball spit that sets foes on fire or the AOE Fire on its F2 does not include a blind as with the open-world counterparts. We received the weakest, stripped down versions, and with all the drawbacks for the Wyverns.

Ranger Mainhand Axe

Projectile speed, casting time and after casting time are pretty bad too. How many time I canceled the skills…

Pretty much this. MH Axe isn’t too far off from being what it aims to be. Small little QoL alterations to it would make a world of difference.

  • Reduce cast time of Split Blade from ¾s to ½s.
  • Reduce after-casts of Ricochet, Split Blade, and Winter’s Bite.
  • Possibly up the Might duration on Ricochet from 3s to 5s.
  • Cosmetically, prevent the off-hand weapon from disappearing while casting skills 1-3. (Robert Gee corrected this for Necromancers within 2 weeks.)

Other things to consider for it is the AOE effect on Winter’s Bite from Honed Axes becoming baseline with the weapon and maybe applying a condition on opponents Ricochet strikes IF the bounce strikes another foe. Similar to DH Longbow auto attack that applies Cripple to all enemies struck if the bounce strikes another foe. Make it a weapon that punishes opponents for grouping together.

That, and the Honed Axes trait could use a lot of fine-tuning as the only thing useful on it is the 20% cooldown reduction, which is a standard on weapon traits. The added Ferocity and effect that amplifies only 1 of a possible 5 axe move set is weak, and quite frankly doesn’t deserve to be a GM tier trait. My 2 cents.

Trouble charming pets

Not 100% sure (so don’t quote me), but I believe ANET changed/removed some pets in a few starter areas from being charmed, so some of them might still be named “Juvenile” when they are not supposed to be.

Even the Black Bear’s wiki page has been updated to list Blazeridge and EB as their only tamable locations.

Invigorating Bond Trait Concerns

Invigorating Bond should not be a GM trait, period. It should be merged with Natural Healing in Beastmastery. Because, if a Ranger is going to take a trait that will give your pet a mini-Healing Signet and buff it’s Healing Power – Anet might as well toss all those eggs into that one basket and allow pet F2’s to heal as well.

As for a replacement GM trait, they should bring back Stability Training and rework it to where pet grants stability to itself and nearby allies when activated AND swapping pets is considered a Stun Break. THAT would be a worthy trait for the GM slot and give Rangers some group stability.

No Rangers Wanted in PvE Content

Could care less at this point. If Druid doesn’t make it into the Raid Meta Team, just like how Ranger isn’t in the current one (but listed as a substitute), then let it happen because it will.

In the interview they estimated about 6 wings a year for Raid content, but they also mentioned working closely with the design and profession balance teams bi-weekly for feedback and testing out new ideas.

Maybe it’s the small glimpse of hopefulness in me, but the interview was somewhat relieving to hear the raid team say that, because of the constant communication and work between the balance teams, the content designers are learning more about the professions and what they can do, making adjustments so all the professions will be able to handle it.

On the flip side, that explains why current PVE is garbage, because it leads to the speculation that they were just cranking out content with little to no knowledge of how classes worked when designing content. Instant-Kill AOEs that destroy Ranger pets with 0 chance to have the pets avoid the damage – I’m looking at you.

The auto leap stick isn’t lazy it come at a cost. Lazy is not finding a way for this cost to pay off for you. The suggested change would hurt ranger vs stealth classes.

Sword aa is the man up chain. It is one of the few time when a rangers full damage comes to bear. Stealth wont save your opponent (the proposed changes would do nothing one target stealths).

Those of you who play defensively can’t see it or understand. There is nothing more satisfying than being the predator. The animation that accompany your onslaught is just unbeatable.

I’m not a thief main or some other class. I main a Ranger since day one. I don’t enjoy the direction the ranger has gone with the druid (there are some nice things but the overall concept is disappointing). I own bolt so not only do I have time invested with this class but with this weapon as well.

Those of you who cant understand how people can defend the aa need to understand (understand not agree) both side before you suggest changes.

Leaps are not effected by slow and cripple super speed is.

It is when depending on the stick. Unlike the people that defend it, all I have seen in 3 years is “don’t change it because I like it.” No suggestions that might meet a compromise, or thinking outside the box.

No such thing as a “man-up” chain, either. That’s such a load of garbage said to cover a clunky and faulty design. The change hurts Rangers against stealth classes? The main set of skills that damage them are long channeled ones, not a half-second kick or a three-quarters pounce.

The ones that use sword defensively use it for the evade and escapes, meaning 2 & 3, not the auto. And when the auto is used to escape, it’s a double pounce, and that’s at a risk of not being able to break the animations for evades.

Those that defend the auto seem to be the ones that are in need to understand a flawed design and what it is. Since the beginning, there has only been 2 suggestions for sword 1; a) change the animations to standard, and b) find a way to code pounce to be broken out of to allow dodging.

If any Ranger that has been here since the beginning, suggestion A completely negates the uniqueness of Ranger sword in terms of the animation and style, while removing the utility of pursuing a target. Anet already had their hand at suggestion B and failed for 3 years at it.

These suggestions have been the closest medium to appeasing both sides for retaining most of the pursuit range and unique animations, while being able to freely move and dodge. So, the sword chain on 1b and 1c will now be affected by conditions. That’s a good thing some sort of counter-play would be introduced. Give and take.

Adding a leap to pet attacks only solves a portion of the issues with Pets. The F1-F3 suggestions do not add much since it functions similar to “Guard!” but without the cast time or buffs.

Improving Pet QoL would have to involve 4 things:

  1. Leaping attacks to increase hit chance (already covered).
  2. Pet attacks cleave (at the very least the auto attacks).
  3. All or 2 Pet skills are available for manual control.
  4. Keybind options for pet commands.

Points 3+4 can be explained HERE on a previous suggestion.

The bonus should be flexible. Giving it some interaction with Beastmode would also help. Something like:

Twice as Vicious: Deal +10% more damage and condition damage against disabled foes. Gain “Twice as Vicious” (5s) when you use a Beastmode Beast (F3) ability.
Twice as Vicious buff: Your next Beast ability (F1 or F2) that you use will refresh instantly.
