Due to the fact it is temporary content I do not like the fact that they put the recipes behind a Level requirement(Let the armor have level 80 requirement that is fine)

I would be fine with this if they did not have the level 80 requirement on the armor recipes.

I think that cities currently are too populated. I like the idea of a single player hub like Lion’s Arch that the server community could go to. They could have that single hub reserved for that server.

I think that with cities they should be mainly reserved for servers except when the average population of a city reaches a specific threshold then throw that player in with the least populated shard. Reason for this is I see the argument of being in a populated city. However….. I also see the argument of a population being so big that it kicks people on your server onto another shard.

But then I honestly think that issue is only present on the Unofficial RP servers. So perhaps tweaking the system so that if the population is above a specific percentage that it then reserves the shard just for that server. The system may indeed be doing that. We don’t know as we don’t get a overflow warning anymore. I know I used to get one in LA in Tarnished Coast whenever I guested there.

Perhaps they could add a queuing system to where the system says. “I would have liked to place you on a different shard but it’s population is too full right now for me to do so would you like to queue up for that shard?” I would not however call it overflow.

I can no longer play the market by choosing lowest or highest and that selling system – .

In generally people hate change because they have to learn new systems. Give it some time you may learn that you like it. You also can choose the lowest seller/Highest buyer. The difference is both options are available to you on one screen now. It defaults to lowest seller.

To fill a buy order you would just choose the buy order side the warning text that states your item would be held will disappear.

Warriors Perspective on Thief

in Thief

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

I honestly feel silly for ever complaining about thieves. They are an annoyance at best for experiences players and really only kill people learning to get around WvW. So if you keep getting killed by thieves play one at level 80 for a few hours in WvW and see how hard it really is.

I think this is the biggest grudge that players have with thieves is that they are really annoying. Not OP. Annoying there is a difference. If they are OP at anything it is escaping a fight. In order for a thief to have a really high chance on a 1v1 he basically needs to be a glass cannon. Otherwise he needs to be able to evade and reset the fight. Hoping that the player he is going against wasted his heals so he can finish it.

Aside from trait acquisition. That still sucks…really, really sucks. Dear lord please change the trait acquisition.

Curious have you attempted to play a character to level 80 with the new acquisition method unlocking all of your traits as you go?

If you have not try it. See if it is really as bad as you feel it is now. If you feel that some traits are just out of balance or too hard or out of your way to get during your normal leveling experience.

Discouraged from Upgrading Towers

in WvW

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

The cost is a gold sink.

However, it does not work as intended, because only a small group of people consistently pay into upgrades. They get to see their investment disappear far more often, and get increasingly frustrated. Because while they spend time and money on upgrades, they are removed from most of the action a.k.a. loot/WXP making the loss even more apparent.

So I tend to agree, remove cost, at least for Towers, as controlling the upgrade process is easy by sniping Dolyaks and capping camps. The gold sink is ineffective.

I personally think lowering the cost of the upgrades would increase the number of people upgrading making it work as a gold sink a lot better. I think that they should be reduced to about half of what they are especially with the frequency that they get flipped in some areas.

Perhaps to offset the lower costs add a maintenance fee. This would also work on making it harder to defend.

The core of the problem is only a small group of people consistently pay for the upgrades. Also this group of people is also frequently the ones that do not join in on the action where the majority of the zerg is. So their income is generally less.

It is not a mechanic that makes it easier for thieves or mesmers easier to kill players. It creates a element of surprise or a ability to retreat. Because of this fact alone it is not worthy of a nerf. Furthermore it is a core mechanic for a thief. Mesmers vail even outdoes the theifs stealth for WvW.

Not only that your cost is too low and duration is too long even if it was a idea that did not break a core mechanic and strategy of the game.

Damage Meters and Inspect Commands

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

Your solution (group with like minded players) would actually mitigate any issue caused by a group wide DPS meter.

I said in the first place that you could just ask people, but you are sacrificing accessibility, accuracy, and increasing the burden on other players to respond to your requests, in order to cater to players that don’t have any interest joining optimal groups in the first place.

Honestly, you could just do the same thing that was suggested in the duel thread: Add it as an opt-in Gem Store feature. That way, there is a real barrier to entry and a legitimate excuse for not having the DPS meter, while making it accessible to those that would enjoy using it.

I am not so worried about what the current min/maxes are doing. I am more worried about what regular Joe player would do with a DPS meter so no group with like minded player would not work if group-wide DPS meters would be released as a lot more people would be using them.

If you can come up with a good situation where group-wide DPS meters are needed I would be happy to consider changing my stance. Personally I don’t see a valid one.

The only valid one I have heard was compare yourself against other players to improve your play. The problem is comparing yourself against other players can go two ways. One way is for your own improvement. The other way is to put down, insult, force improvement on others or to tout your own horn. I am fine for self improvement. Grouping with like minded players solve that problem. Having personal meters and asking other players will solve that problem.

If group DPS meters were released there will be far more put downs, insults, forcing improvement or people putting themselves on a pedestal. This does not encourage friendly play. This is the reason why I am confident that group DPS meters will never be in game. I also agree that they should not be.

I do not approve of the gem store method as I think their development time should be spent on something that helps the majority of the playerbase.

Personal DPS meters I am ok we already sortof have them in the from of a combat log. If they allowed a API to pull everything from the combat log including what drop you get and allow chat with guilds I would be happy. Then players can make their own DPS meters. A group DPS meter would also be possible but not in a way that would effect the majority of the playerbase. Reason why it would not effect the wide playerbase is it would be a out of game tool developed by a 3rd party that players would have to go look for. If you like that idea then post in the following threads:

If it was for cultural sensitivity not to include it that is a shame. I personally find it more culturally insensitive to exclude it. In addition I don’t find Guild Wars 1 being culturally insensitive.

anzenketh, you didn’t get the joke

No I got it. I avoided it for a reason. It is a big hyperbole and not helpful to the true problem. That the removal of bundles in the leveling areas removed some of the flavor of those areas. So you do not get the feeling of the race that you once did.

Instead of adjusting some of the events that had bundles in a immersive fashion(Feed the cow with a collectible event) or move events unable to be changed without using bundles. We get events that are just silly “Entertain a cow(Help Farmer Diah)” or outright removed “Golem Chess. (Support Doola golemancing research)”

Hopeful ArenaNet understands that is why we are making satire out of it. That there is actually reason that some players are truly upset about.

Ascended gear is not as bad as people make it out to be. If you are following the crafting guides they are highly inflated. For multiple reasons. One being that the market is not quite stable yet. It went though a bit of a shock. Also It only feels extremely bad as you are already 80 and thought you were done.

Interesting tip: With WvW you can get the mats for ascended gear easier then PvE. Why? Because you don’t have to wait for timers and it is one per location. And you get it just by playing the game. PvEers have to go complete multiple dungeons in vastly diffrent locations or wait for world event timers.

WvW see Interesting tip.

The fact that the Studio Director states he will look into it tells me that it is a bug. The fact that the story itself is still in the game files tells me it is a trigger bug. I don’t see what you are seeing that supports a theory that it is not a bug.

The short answer is critical thinking.

You can also use “crying wolf”. This is what happens when the developer regularly applies nerfs to longstanding content rewards and calls them “bug fixes”.

Unfortunately, the player base isn’t nearly as stupid as Anet would prefer, and everything about the NPE seems geared toward making that ratio more favorable.

ArenaNet have proven to me a few times that they are willing to admit mistakes and change things. I see no reason at the moment to think otherwise.

Is HoT going to be Buy-To-Win?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

Can you define “WIN” in PvE? Masteries are for PvE content and are only enabled on PvE content. WvW already has Masteries and is going for a revamp to make it more like PvE Masteries but will not require purchasing the expansion.

However to answer your question. You may get some advantage that you would not have otherwise. A lot of the advantages are restricted to the new maps. Some may not but they also may not give a statistical advantage(It may break some older maps). You will also have to “Level Up” in your Mastery Tracks. So even if PvE had a “Win” Masteries do not make the game pay to win. In my mind by your friends definition a level cap increase would be pay to win.

PvP everyone will always be on the same level. So in truth the only competitive mode tests skill and is balanced as such is PvP.

3.) Guild (Representing have not tested not representing)
4.) Other

I thought the order would have been
1.) Party
2.) Guild
3.) Server
4.) Other

I have tested in Rata Sum with a member of my guild staying in Rata Sum. I have been put on the correct shard every time before that with this same guild member. However when I guested on Tarnished Coast I was put on a separate shard then my guild member.

I wish we knew the order so we can more accurately tell the system what we want to be sorted as.

These are all great ideas! They are very much inline with our direction for the game. The one thing I have to disagree with as-stated is #1: “Remove hot join.” Removing hot join means removing all custom arenas, which we will not do as they have many benefits. I understand why the community wants this; to have the majority of the player base shift to a more structured format like an unrated solo arena. The best middle ground I can see is removing all ArenaNet custom arenas.

Honestly I think removing all of the Hot Join would probably fix the problem. And I think the community(Except for the glory farmers) would be ok with this. As they are basically duplicates of solo-queue except they are unrated and often unevenly matched.

Also commander tags are getting a upgrade (squads are specifically). It is just not in the game yet as it broke things before. It should be in around the time raids hit. Mentors can not run squads.

What's wrong and how it can be fixed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

OP, notice that your problems started not with a shift in design goals or game mechanics, but with a shift in the way the community consumed content. I agree that certain recent additions to the game have felt….well, not quite up to par, but these changes strike me as reactionary.

*People complain about no endgame progression: add Fractals.
*People complain about no reason to go back to old areas: Add rewards for dailies in those areas.
*People complain about missing out on the big one time events: change to month long mini-events.
*People complain about there not being enough armor and weapon sets, and seeing them all all the time because they are so easy to get: add new weapon skins with each update that are temporary and hard to get, keeping them rare.

I agree with you that Arena Net has strayed from the path we all hoped it would follow, but I disagree that it was due to greed. No; I think it was due to necessity. A necessity that we created.

  • People complained about not enough variance on the matches in WvW. ArenaNet Acknowledges that it is a problem and introduce a random roll.

Funny thing is all of these changes are for the better and welcomed by the player base. A lot of them are also really better for the game in it’s longevity. If you were a new player coming into the game you would not have high population numbers in the lower zone areas so you would have missed out on that. However you will find that there is even more content then ever before to play getting not only 3 but 4-5 times your money’s worth. The core problem is still the same. Me Gimie Gimie and straying away from what the game really is. A wonderful land full of adventure and story and wonderful environment. The game has changed a bit. ArenaNet does listen and give players what they want. It is just not always in the way that they want it. I think that is where they have not strayed from their path. They have a vision of how they want the game to be.

I don’t think that it is necessarily the game or ArenaNet that has changed though I think it is the community that has changed. The community seams a bit more demanding and inpatient. Any any Massively Multiplier type game runs into this issue. Guild Wars 1 Ran into that issue it was just not as popular so it had a more tight nit community.

ArenaNet has always known that they can not develop enough content to keep all the player base happy. I would argue they do a good enough job that people who don’t go all crazy are happy. If you look in some areas you will find that the game is actually teaching you how to do WvW and sPvP. The reason why WvW and sPvP exist is so the players can make their own content.

Exotic Item Placement.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Loot Scaling is also in effect. A lower level is not going to be able to get that level 80 Exotic. In addition to that any exotic dropping is a rare event. Unless you participate in a world event that drops a world chest.

A lot of MMO’s are barren at the lower level areas. If you want hard difficult content you will be rewarded for the play of hard difficult content in the higher level areas. However rewards may vary.

Lower level areas you get rewarded for helping out the lower new players and keep decent rewards.

I would agree however there are some areas that could use a better loot. More variety in the story dungeons would be a good example.

Addressing Moderation Concerns

in PvP

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

I think us players could also help out in this matter.

you never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them.

We need to think of why rules are in place. Then if we want something somewhere else try to conform to the rules. Want to discuss about a video but not be lost in linksville. Talk about what the video said then post a link to the video.

Helseth’s stream links belong in linksville because they are links. If somebody was starting a discussion, and happened to link his stream as reference to a point they were making, that would be different. What’s been happening is his stream is linked either with no discussion or with a transcript of his stream. In either case those belong in linksville, as that is what that subforum is there for.

… Even when they’re concerning Structured PvP? That seems a particularly ill conceived rule, applied with little rational thought.

Do the links to the PAX tourney belong in Linksville, just because they’re links? Even though it was the games first cash prize Structured PvP tournament? I mean, that rule just sounds extremely silly.

The more I read your post, the more incredulous I get. That is a particularly awful and narrow minded view for forum moderators to have. It doesn’t take much in the way of rational thought to understand why a Link to a discussion about Structured PvP belongs in the Structured PvP forums. Are we supposed to go to a different sub-forum, watch the video, then bring comments back here out of no where?

Why would I be in Linksville if I was interested in talking about/hearing others views on Structured PvP? This is absolutely mind boggling. If you were following some rule when you moved it, it’s an asinine one that needs a re-examination, post haste. If it was a judgement call on your part, it’s my opinion that it was a poor one, and I hope in the future it isn’t repeated.

The links are not the problem. It is that they are not the OP original words with reference to links to prove the points or say who persuaded him/her that way.

Good example is when players talk about game design and link to Extra Credits to add credibility to the post.

The rule is more to prevent promotion threads. A promotion thread is “new video look. Here is a link/transcript.” Want to have a discussion about a video talk about what the video is ranting about then link to it.

It is hard to tell a difference between a promotion thread and I want to talk about what XYZ person talked about. To put it frankly want to discuss a video related to sPvP discuss the items in the video link to the video. I don’t think the Mods would be against that. At least that is what I got.

So SOAC gaming threads – which are just links to the twitch streams – should be moved out of the class subforums and into links vile? That’s just one example – the rule is too vague, and is not enforced consistently enough to justify moving helseths thread for that reason alone.

I do think consistency is a problem. Not much they can do though they are outmanned.

Remember this is a game wide economy. Not a server per server. We are talking about hundreds of thousands of buy orders.

Starting out at the peak the average was at ~766k buy orders with a sell order averaging ~2727k sell orders. Sell orders stopped at the high volume they were at about the 14-16th of May due to southsun and increased rewards over there. It took about 5-6 days before the gap between buy and sell orders started to significantly spread. To make matters worse the number of buy orders increased as those that would have normally farmed for the mats themselves decided it was more worth it to concentrate on southsun. Taking buy orders average to 1000k+ from there price started to really spike when the supply ran out and was signifficently less then demand.

It did not go fast. This started as soon as southsun was released. 05/14/2013 prices really did not start to skyrocket until about the 24th of May. When there was a higher incentive to farm elsewhere. (Hum… I wonder if this will tell you how valuable farming is to the economy. ) There was more incentive elsewhere. There were magic finds and gold buffs in southsun. Levels 1-80 could participate due to upleveling. So it is not just level 80 areas that are taking a hit but all areas of the game.

Also not all mats were effected Tier 5 mats did not take as big of a hit.

And some are on a steady decline trying to stable out. Like Tier 6 Scale.

If you take a look at what mobs drop what and where you will begin to see why some mats price are skyrocking while others lower are declining. Also take a look at where the majority of players are.

If you look at all the graphs you will notice that SouthSun affected the economy greatly. I can say this due to they all pivot at about the 14th.

About Commanders Tags

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It’d be Commander Loki Karaoke and almost certainly because I’m running Guild Missions.

There have been many suggestions for this (and Anet has shown some interest) including 1) changing colors or shape or 2) allowing guild-only tag visibility.

I expect there to be Commander tag features added in the next feature patch later this year based on the interest shown by Anet plus lots of speculation on my part.

My bad

That’s cool! I think a guild only option would be nice also, though as an option for sure.

Do you have a link to anything that shows Anet’s interest?

Thanks dkspins.4670 for the info.
I hope Anet considers changing it to account bound. Since raising 100g is not an “easy” task, and they did say they want all our achievements to be able to be shared amongst all characters. Personally I consider earning 100g an achievement worthy of sharing across all my characters.

While I for one would like commander tags to be account bound.

The problem is that you would have more of exactly what the OP is upset about. More tags being useless. The overall playerbase wants less not more commander tags. The interesting thing is that there are actually more tags then people see I would wager that the majority of tag holders do not tag often.

ArenaNet has already made changes to require Badges of Honor to buy the commander tag.

Issues with character art, weapons, or armor?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

Please ensure that the Asura Neck Bug is tracked and eventually resolved if possible.

It is making a already small character look like a blob.

-Server: ANY
-Map/location: Mostly seen in LA coming out of a way-point
-Character info(level, race, profession): Asura Any profession.
-How to reproduce issue:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/races/asura/Asura-Head-bug
https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/83102/bug.jpg
https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/83102/bug.jpg

Some good quotes on descriptions of the issue:

Yeah, I’ve seen it too. It’s like if after a loading screen, the game doesn’t initially render your neck and instead puts your head directly on your shoulders. It fixes itself on my screen after three seconds tops.

It usually happens to me when environment still loads up after logging in/porting to another zone, stops usually after a minute or two, when a certain SFX is finally heard. Not sure which one though, as my desktop just plays all “lagged” sounds in one moment.

Funny, no other race has these or similar issues.

It seams as if the next renders along priority with everything else that is low priority on rendering. This may or may not be limited to the male models.

I guess the question is this confirmed a bug? I could see some argument for this to be “Working as designed” I honestly don’t know.

I could see someone argument that yes it is working as designed. But then I can also see a argument that it is not.

Would changing the way stats are ruin PvP

in PvP

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

To be perfectly honest I don’t get stats in sPvP. This is the main reason why I don’t play sPvP all that much. Making a build is confusing. I don’t know what I am getting from what I am putting in. I understand PvE builds I don’t understand PvP builds.

In PvE a lot of pepole study and go by the following:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Equipment_acquisition_by_stats

Then they come into sPvP and they see …….. Not that. They now need to re-learn how to do their build. I can see how this can be frustrating for a lot of players.

So my question with those who do sPvP and make builds a lot is would it hurt to basically have the Top Tier gear freely given in sPvP and have the stat distribution like PvE. So we can move freely from PvP in WvW to PvP in sPvP without re-thinking our entire play.

How would ballance and everyone on a even level come into play with this?

Black Lion Ticket Scraps... Are Common?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

Yeah, I’ve noticed that by “common” Anet means “Rare” and by “Rare” they mean “Forget it”.

Ya I think that ArenaNet does need to re-think their rarity levels to communicate more effectively on what to expect. I would call greens blues, whites, junk, and crafting mats common.

I would classify the scraps as un-common however not rare. I got keys frequently enough before this patch when I did open up the BL Chests.

If I was in to paying for RNG I would probably limit myself to 20 Black lion chests. If 10 scraps is the minimum. That would be about $25. But I generally don’t care as much for cosmetics. The actual probability rate of getting one item is closer to spending $30-60 bucks

Game Updates: Guild World Events, Megaservers, WvW

I think many people won’t give negative opinions in a public map chat, including myself, because the people that like it are more vocal and likely to troll you for it. A forum is a place where people can write longer explanations as to why they dislike an aspect of the game and can actually discuss it at length.

I think a lot of people will not give positive feedback on the forums when they came just to give their opinion on a hot topic and they are told that they are wrong and then they feel that they have to defend their opinion. An opinion is just that one persons point of view from the experiences they have.

Also no I am not speaking to anyone directly. I am quoting to give my comment context.

Personally I find that the player base has a mixed opinion of the MegaServers. Some hate it (especially those on higher population servers, In large guilds, On servers in Europe to where they can get mixed with the other language servers.) Some people like it (Commonly low population servers or people who like to level. Including new players.) Some people are indifferent(I think a lot of those think it is a good idea but don’t think the configuration is perfect) and are giving ArneaNet time to fix the algorithm or provide tools to help alleviate the downfalls of the MegaServer.

Depending on what group you are in will shape how you feel, (and how you think other people feel) about the MegaServer.

My point of view is somewhere between indifferent and liking it.

Server communities? I don’t care for them, I have my guild, that’s my community.

I think a lot of people are in this camp. But then there are others that were part of a larger community. Those communities were hit hard.

(Guild Wars 2) Permanent Trial Period?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: anzenketh.3759

anzenketh.3759

lol I think what he is suggesting is they should create a trial account like they can make 1 character which can level up to a max lvl of 5 or 10 to get more people into the game because im sure most of you have noticed beginner zones are empty.. this way people can at the very least try the game

Starcraft 2 did this and they got so much more players because of it.. it’ll leave testers longing for more

Or he could be saying that he wants a 14 day trial or something of the sort that is always available.

Before the CDI on Guild Halls begins, I think it’s only fair that someone asks the big question:

If we come up with what appears to be a solid idea for Guild Halls, will ANet actually carry through with it and put the work into making it and making it right?

There’s no point in wasting time throwing around ideas that will never see the light of day. This isn’t a question that can be answered with a “maybe” or “we’ll see”. This is a “Yes” or “No” question. If the answer is “Yes”, then fine. Full steam ahead. If it’s not, then we don’t need to waste our time on something that’s going to get buried under other projects and come out half-baked, if at all.

Other question, would there be any legal issues with using the specifics of an idea from a CDI? I would think not, or the devs wouldn’t be taking a risk on it, but intellectual property is kind of a sticky issue.
I can imagine scenarios where “we like the idea but we can’t copy it directly” might cause seemingly half-hearted execution of an otherwise solid, detailed concept.
