Speculation as to population numbers is irrelevant anyway. We don’t have proof, and only A-net has the statistics.

Trying to prove GW2 is dead, based on one server, at one specific time, is laughable. With that logic, i can go to any low-pop server in WoW, take a screenshot, and claim WoW is dead.

Well, i guess that’s it. The name won’t be changing. It’s a silly name, with the majority against it, but it’s their game.

As Harvest suggested, it’s not about fighting for morality, so it doesn’t make sense. We’re all essentially dragon hunters in our fight against Modremoth, and other dragons. Many other names would’ve been better.

We are not all dragon hunters. Hunters don’t defend themselves or the land from a threat, which is what we are doing against the dragons. Hunter are on the offensive, the ones that stalk their prey and prepare the traps for it. Hunters don’t fight, they murder.

And not all professions/players share the notion that the only way to fight the dragons is to eliminate them, their minions and the entire Sylvari race.

..because the Pact isn’t actively hunting Modremoth, right? Heart of Thorns is exactly all about that. Didn’t you play Season 2?

Instead of living story they would be better off adding more dynamic events. Make them more detailed and longer chains.

They actually tried that. I believe they added hundreds of new DE’s shortly after launch, but they never announced it or mentioned it any patch notes. After that we got some holiday events and Southsun Cove, then we started getting living world updates, which became Season 1.

The main problem with GW2 content, is that it was mostly temporary. It wasn’t until Season 2 that stuff started becoming more permanent.

People in this thread try to defend that there was a lot of content, but the content was shallow and very lite. They were mostly glorified dynamic events with achievements. The only substantial content was Fractals, Southsun Cove, 3 PvP maps, Eotm, and TA Aetherpath dungeon. Season 2 was just story updates with Dry Top and Silverwastes added.

DO NOT change the dungeon owner system

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nexxe.7081

nexxe.7081

Sorry, but this a good change.
There were many times the dungeon owner would leave because they didn’t know that it kicks everyone out, or they would disconnect. This will no longer happen which is good.

A better implementation, would’ve been to give the person who formed the group, leader status, as it is in almost every MMO.

Yes, there will always be griefers and they will always kick for being rude or elitist, or whatever, but this has always been there. The upcoming change will make it so that one person can’t disband the group entirely. Dungeon starters aren’t always saints either, and this change will take away their power to hold other people hostage.

As for dungeon sellers, i hope they become extinct. Selling dungeons is ridiculous and cheapens the experience of dungeons. I don’t really blame them though, because it’s the overall design of dungeons that allows it, but i won’t miss them if this prevents them from selling them.

The elitist attitude is out of control. Kicking people because they don’t live up to your standards is ridiculous. If you want a professional group for speed runs, or for easy-mode gameplay, then organize one without random players.

Kicking people because they can’t read the description is ridiculous?

No, read again. I said kicking people for “standards” is ridiculous. By standards, i mean, kicking people because they don’t have certain builds or certain classes.

Re-read the OP’s post. He won’t group with others unless they have an achievement threshold requirement. That’s being elitist.

Frankly this rage that’s slamming the forums and /r/GuildWars2 has been bubbling for awhile. Frankly, the rage never stops on the forums, but the subreddit is usually a calmer, more upbuilding forum for conversation. But when you have an interview where the answers to every single question are:
“No new FoV options”
“No First person view camera”
“No updates to precursor any time soon. But "Soon""
“Maybe no more SAB”
“No developement of tengu”

I understand that they have to prioritize certain things over others. But come on. This is just ridiculous. And frankly, the sudden and unannounced turn towards not interacting with us in any way is disconcerting. Think about it, we went from having a new CDI every two weeks or so where each post would literally have thousands and thousands of posts with a dev responding and having conversations with us, to not having any interaction other then random support ticket posts.

Why? We have no way of knowing. But, in the hopes that they’re still listening many posters continue to make posts on the forums and subreddit with suggestions on things we would like to see in the game. But, after months of suggestions and really good conversations among fans, things we had hoped for are completely ignored. Not only do they not get implemented, they aren’t even addressed.

While game forums will always have complainers, I would argue that when the devs keep the lines of communication open, the fanbase in general tends to be happier and have a brighter outlook for the future of the game. Just give us hints as to what’s coming next. Start a CDI where we can discuss a certain aspect of the game. Give us, the fans, something to talk about with you. Calm our nerves because dangit, our nerves are collectively frayed.

We are all passionate about this game. If we weren’t, we wouldn’t be posting here! Just resume communication with us so we at least know something. If the game is on it’s last legs, tell us. If an expansion is coming, TEASE IT! Bring back the CDI! Bring back red posts.

I’ve been saying all along that the Living Story is their main priority and how it’s affecting everything else, but the fanboys always had some weak defense for Anet. The Living Story was too experimental to be used, especially shortly after launch where it basically restructured the entire design of GW2 Before the LS, they were adding dungeons (fractals), new zones (southsun cove), new events (over 100 of them!), and many other things, but then the Living Story changed all of that and we got the temporary stuff. Don’t get me wrong, the LS is amazing, but they should have waited at least a year or longer, and kept the game stable while fixing/updating all the things you mentioned.

Mr. Whiteside, I have a question.

Do you remember the Commander CDI 1 year ago? Why we got only 3 more colors out of it? I love the idea of CDI, but after this I wonder if the community’s time and effort are wasted…

Or maybe the big improvements to the commander system are yet to come?

Do you?

The main things that came out of that CDI was different colors for tags and account-bound tags.

Both which we are getting now.

Wrong. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Collaborative-Development-Commander-System/page/14

Commander Visibility
More options for the Color/Shape of the tag itself. This could be tied to functionality or rank of commanders but mainly targeted around organization.
Removal of buff display to enemies. As well as we should avoid doing skills/abilities that highlight the commander to enemies.
Ability to limit visibility to a sub group, party, guild, ect..
Tag sizing. (I debate this a bit as when you auto size the tag you can often lose the ability to see how far away something is but it was brought up a lot so listing it here)
Add squads to LFG system.

Commander Tools
More detailed supply info that’s always up. (Increased radius)
Ability to create sub roles within a squad.
Current squad tools are rarely used.
Seems to be some debates on buffs to followers, but there is a lot of good examples of ways to do that.
Squad size needs to be increased.
Ability to group up parties or other commanders to form different squad organization.
Improved chat suppression for commanders
Commander announcements (yellow text across the screen)
Open/Closing Squad tools

Commander gating
Current 100g gate isn’t the cleanest gate. (Whole goal behind a gate is to limit the number of commanders out there.
Gating using WvW abilities seems to have some debate to it, but seems like something we should avoid.
Account bound commander tags vs character bound.

This wasn’t even half of the suggestions in that thread either. The fact that Anet paid it’s WvW team (if there is one anymore) for 8+ months to add different colors to Commander Tags and make them Account-Bound is baffling. Yes, i know, they also worked on EotM, and Golem Mastery, and Siege Disabler, but EotM came out in February 2014. That’s 7 months for Golem Mastery and Siege Disabler?

So yes, i agree with Chris Whiteside, and it’s not worth the frustration when player’s suggestions are ignored. And yes, they were ignored and weren’t implemented.

Commander Tag - Not a vanity feature!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nexxe.7081

nexxe.7081

This is basic functionality.

No it isn’t. It is optional, or even advanced, functionality. If it were basic functionality we would not be able to play the game without it…and yet we have been doing so for two years now.

You entirely misunderstand the situation and I think you have never actually been a commander before to organize anything. Just because we have been making do with the system as it is for two years doesn’t mean it is “good enough”. Ask pretty much any commander who regularly tags in WvW and they will tell you the system is woefully under-developed and has been needing a proper rework since the games release. I argue that it’s lack of functionality is a core problem with WvW and why WvW pug commanders cannot do anything more ambitious than lead massive map blobs to every point. The instant a second blue tag pops on the map the cohesion of the strategy the commanders are attempting is muddied. Having multiple coloured tags with established ‘metaroles’ would alleviate this. Red = Offensive. Blue = Defensive, Purple = Guildraid and so on. Whatever, this may never happen and is wishful thinking. But my point is that the current system is not good enough in the eyes of most WvW commanders and even PvE commanders (of which i am included).

As a commander for a large EU worldboss community that regularly kills Wurm and Tequatl, I can tell you that the idea we could designate different coloured tags to different roles within the strategy fills me with untold excitement. The hardest job for a commander is getting his/her followers to understand the strategy. Having visual cues such as ingame, seperately coloured tags would help massively. Yes, we make do for now with the same coloured tags and have great successes. But that is not to say that we would not welcome expanded commander tag functionality..

I don’t misunderstand at all. There is a rather large difference between something for which there is a use, something which would be helpful, something which would be nice to have, and something that is needed.

Similarly there is a huge difference between basic functionality and optional or advanced functionality. People have played without multicolored commander tags since the game launched. This demonstrates that they are not a need or inherent to the basic function of WvW/large event PvE.

I tend to think that raising the price for the one tag is reasonable but that the ability to change colors would better serve the intended function of the tag by being doable at will without additional cost.

Even so, hyperbole does not serve the argument. Claiming something that is clearly and demonstrably not the case, something that is obviously an overblown exaggeration, rather than a calm and reasoned presentation of one’s position makes the entire position seem unreasonable.

2 years later. A lengthy CDI post over 8 months ago. Countless suggestions, which were constructive. People have been reasonable, and patient all this time, so no, i don’t think the playerbase is being unreasonable at all. There isn’t any hyperbole at all.

how to get rid of stacking

step 1: make a group specifying no stacking
step 2: complete dungeon without stacking

mission successful

did you happen to notice another post in here where he tried that and couldn’t get a group to join him?

It worked when I did it.

Glad to see all the responses in this thread from people who are completely clueless about the game’s mechanics or game design in general.

That video didn’t prove a thing. It just shows that you can form a group. It didn’t show any comparison with a “meta” group.

Why compare? Tell me, I’m curious. Do you want to be as effective as a meta group?

Comparisons offer an analysis. Efficiency should be strived for, so you don’t waste your time, or other people’s time, because people value their time. Not only that, but it shows competence in your performance, because you took the time to learn your traits, builds, and acquired specific gear, runes, sigils, etc.

When content becomes trivialized (or too complicated), due to “stacking”, or any form of “meta”, then it needs to offer alternatives to balance variety and challenge.

Just look at sports for an analogy. Anyone can go to the local basketball court and join a PUG, but it will never be as professional as a varsity team, or the NBA. Some of these people eventually move on to a more professional setting, because they want to be more efficient in their skills, while others are content to never hone their skills, which is perfectly fine.

The problem is, players are unwilling to form less efficient groups, because they see that the stacking “zerker meta” is the preferred way to play. Can you blame them? They value their time. This persuades people to stack (exceptions for certain fights), thus limiting their choices in builds and limiting their way of playing. It’s actually less variety than a trinity mmo. At least in trinity mmos, you can have 3 roles. In GW2, it’s more efficient to have one.

When Anet said “play how you want”, when referring to dungeons, i’m pretty sure they meant play whatever classes and builds you want, without being restricted to a specific role, except it didn’t turn out that way. It became one role and one meta, and they have failed to address for almost 3 years.

The funny thing is, they just removed the Practice games in SPvP.

Did Anet foresee HoT price pandemic?

My concern is this : if they create hard roles and the content in HoT requires a certain role for the party to be completed we will go back to square one on the whole “waiting around for 1 person to finally engage in content” problem they sought out to solve in the first place.

Yes and I agree that is not ideal.

But, neither is (IMO) dictatorial, skipping>permastacking>meleeing, DPS-only parties, all in matching clothes…

So if the choice is between waiting in queue for hours or all the fun I’ve been having for the past few years, I’ll take fun.

An automatic dungeon tool would eliminate that problem. It works good with SPvP currently. The wait times are negligible.

I do this too. I’ve been wishing that they would make movement speed an account bound thing, just like MF, so that I didn’t have to waste a skill or runes.

….or you know, mounts. The logical thing that everyday people use when traveling long distances, whether it’s a train, car, or plane. Almost every MMO has them, except GW2, and they don’t just have them for vanity. They are needed to travel long distances inside the game. Ironically, waypoints are still inconveniently insufficient, when you still need to switch out skills, weapons, and traits, which are an inconvenience.

-Awaits the irrational hatred against mounts from illogical, pro-waypoint, signet-switching swiftness players.-

Why don't you like SPvP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nexxe.7081

nexxe.7081

Because you have to go through the hassle of building up a template separate from PvE and WvW, which requires a lot of research for each class you use. Not only that, but there’s only one game mode and the maps are small. The UI is also very unintuitive and confusing (at first) to veteran MMO players from other games. It’s built mostly for FPS players. But most of all, it’s just not fun, when everything is so fast paced and frantic, with skills and CC with 2 second durations (exaggerating here), making them worthless to use in the first place. It’s like trying to play counter-strike or COD but with fantasy skills. It just doesn’t mesh well.

Somehow things changed though with the introduction of Season 2. Those who don’t log in to unlock it are still being separated from those who don’t.

No they aren’t, you can do all the new content in a party with someone that has it. You just can’t get the achievements. All the open world stuff is open to all too.

A solo instance isn’t “being separated from the community”

I wasn’t sure of the specifics about it, but thanks for clarifying. It’s still segregating the players though. I don’t see how you can say it’s not. They cannot experience the story as the rest of the community, unless they use some workaround with someone else, or buy it with gems. They cannot even get the achievements and rewards from them, which makes it even worse.

The fact that it’s a solo instance is irrelevant, since it has an essential component of GW2, which is the story. If a player cannot share that same experience on his own, then he is essentially being separated from that experience. I don’t see how that is any different than a WoW expansion (or other MMO expansions). You will still be separated from the experience of the quests and their stories.

This is basically how GW1 worked. The campaigns were mostly about the stories, and many players experienced them solo, but the community was still segregated due to this.

Imagine if dungeons worked the same way, and the rewards from achievements were restricted from players who didn’t buy the access to dungeons. That wouldn’t be so different than what is happening now.

(lol, this post got way too long than i wanted it to be.)

Show how to get combo effects in game

I made some suggestions here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Combo-Fields-Finishers-suggestion/first

What does everyone think about indicators to visually appear on the hotbar, for fields and finishers? I would think it would help people, for both new people and veterans.
And no, it’s not dumbing down the game. There’s just too many skills to memorize when playing different alts.

Just look at all the combos: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Combo_field

Let’s take Guardian for example. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Table_of_guardian_combo_skills

Field: Symbol of Wrath could have some kind of glowing effect around it’s border to indicate it’s a field.

Finisher: Leap of Faith could have a red flashy border indicating it’s ready to use, or any other kind of finisher.

There could be various visual indicators for the following. Perhaps, a “smoky cloud” icon around the Smoke field, or a “fiery flame” around the Fire fields.

Fields: Dark, Ethereal, Fire, Ice, Light, Lightning, Poison, Smoke, Water
Finishers: Blast, Leap, Projectile, and Whirl

There’s some problems with this of course, such as fields & finishers that are chained attacks, because they are usually on automatic attacks on #1 on the hotbar, but it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

Some people didn’t like it though.

TL;DR: Highlight skills on hotbar with fields and finishers.

Anyone feel like waypoints make the world smaller? I don’t have a sense of exploration in GW2 while traveling, which is ironic, since exploration was supposed to be a huge selling point for GW2. It’s still there, except that the experience is lessened because of instant travel.

Flight paths, mounts, running, and actually, physically, moving inside the game world needs to be taken into consideration.

I’m not sure how this could be balanced either. The only solution i can think of is lowering the amount of waypoints for each zone, because right now, there is way too many.

I wrote “etc.” at the bottom of the list. Stop turning a blind eye to that.
Yes, they added more content, such as new skins, karka, fractals.. but that’s besides the point. They could be adding more, making it permanent, otherwise the world feels like it’s never progressing. As it is now, the living story took way too long with no real benefit to the state of permanence of the existing world. I read that the refugees will be going to southsun cove, so that’s a plus, but it’s still taking resources away from the current content that could be getting upgraded or added to the game.

As you can see, it has nothing to do with the new Guardian spec. lol.

HoT Announced > Core Game Abandoned ?

ArenaNet’s just giving people what they want. People complained about the living story, so ArenaNet’s testing an expansion. What if instead of slowly releasing a season over a year, they were to instead hold everything back for a year and release it all at once? The lack of recent updates is standard for an expansion and they’re probably intentionally not bringing back other events so that they can gauge feedback – who complains more. ArenaNet likes doing surveys like this.

Moving forward however, I would expect to see them stick with expansions and feature smaller living stories and the reoccurring events to fill the time in between them. An expansion simply generates more press and the announcement of HoT was a boost in player numbers.

The problem is, we don’t know their future plans, except that there’s an expansion coming with no release date in sight. Whoever is in charge, keeps insisting on keeping everything secret, which is doing more harm than good, from a public relations perspective.

The funny thing is, they hyped HoT like no tomorrow, then never followed up at keeping people interested. You would think they would try to keep remaining players interested until then. It’s like the veterans are being forgotten and discarded, while they keep bringing in new players with their $10 discounts. The latest NCSoft report is bad news.

Yeah, that was a poor way to handle that story. It tied into some of the lore though, but it was silly that these valuable pieces were just out in the open, instead of hidden somewhere deep. There should’ve been legendary champions guarding them.

A Title With Little Honor

Alright, maybe I’ll look like one of the few ‘whining’ about this. You can also choose to throw some insult at me. Though, I’m really just trying to have a debate about a possible issue; whether or not the Southsun Stalwart title has much less honor than it could’ve had.

Why? Because of how a lot of people used a mesmer portal to get to the islet.

I did the jumping puzzle; I know a lot of other people did it too. We can of course take pride in that and have that ‘yes, I did it!’ feeling.. but we can’t really use the Southsun Stalwart title to show it. Now, people, don’t say something ridiculous about boasting is bad or whatever. Titles are there to show your accomplishments; but anyone who did everything fairly can’t show any other accomplishment than those who used a portal.
(Edit: I’m also aware that the title is for completing 25 achievements; but I personally feel that it only requires 24 if you use the portals).

What do you guys ‘n girls think of this? Do you think using mesmer portals is cheating, or do you think it’s fair? What do you think Anet could’ve done differently?

I personally believe that the jumping puzzle (if anything) should’ve had a separate achievement and separate title, neither of which counted toward the ‘overall’ Southsun achievement/rewards. Unless there was an ‘ultimate’ achievement for completing all plus the puzzle.. (Edit: To clear up, the issue is not about ‘the jumping puzzle not having an achievement/etc. of its own, but that it can be ’done’ too easy and counts toward a larger achievement).

At very least, putting an object, required for an achievement, (which again is required for a reward and a title), at the end of a hard jumping puzzle, is only going to make people want to find an easier solution.

Edit: Having to include (for some reason that frankly isn’t very obvious to me, but maybe I didn’t make it clear enough) that this is meant as a discussion/debate about whether or not this is okay, and what you think about the issue. Is it an issue? Did you jump or use a portal, and what does it mean to you? (So on. That kind of questions..)

I used a portal. I don’t like jumping puzzles that are more frustrating than fun, and these timed jumps are not fun to me. I tried for over an hour or two. Do you suggest people keep trying even if they have no luck before the event ends?

The real problem of Living Story? (rewards)

in Living World

Rewards

The current rewards are underwhelming.

Titles, karma jugs, silver/gold, blue & green quality items, etc., just doesn’t cut it. Almost all these can be obtained in game already via normal gameplay without Living Story.

The only worthwhile items are minis and back-slot items, but seriously, is that all there is to look forward to in GW2 from now on?

Why do we only get one item per Living Story dungeon? A pair of gloves? Really?
Gear obtained via Trading Post? Really? Let me earn these via in game dungeons or world events instead.
Aetherized Weapons? Okay, finally something good, but where are the new armor sets?

I really want to come back to GW2, but everytime i do, i don’t feel rewarded for doing so, and then i stop playing again.

What are Anet's plans for this game?

1. We’re getting events EVERY month. It’s not just dragon bakitten’s also the other 2 living story parts, sab and holiday events.
2. Full trait overhaul coming for every class on June 25th. I’m absolutely sure that that takes a lot of man power.
3. Someone is forgetting WvW/Spvp updates, guild missions, fractals, new jumping puzzles, new cinematics for the story and other things that we constantly get.

Quality > Quantity
These updates have been sub-par so far, with the exception of the Molten Alliance Phase 2 & 3 updates.

Why Guild Wars 2 is the most 'Square' world

This always bothered me about GW2. They made all the zones instanced and artificially connected them. Imagine if it was more natural and seamless without any zoning.

Yeah, i know GW1 had portals, but that’s hardly an excuse to make a world non-seamless.

I just have it bound to my thumb button on my mouse, it’s easy. I feel like this is more of an l2p problem than an ANet problem.

Huh? It has nothing to do with learning to play. It’s an inconvenience. It has nothing to do with challenge. It’s about as useful as holding ctrl down to see players/npcs names.

I understand why they do it though, because they actually want people to search for items such as the coins in dry top or silverwastes, but they could actually code those to be ignored by the feature.

What does challenge have to do with learning to play? Being able to rebind a key to something more convenient, like caps lock, or scroll lock, is just as much understanding how the game works as dodging. Like I said, which was my point, I rebound it to the thumb button on my mouse, which made it much more convenient. If you don’t like pressing ctrl, make it something else.

Then don’t use “l2p” which implies that people should be “learning” how to overcome a challenge, problem, or task.

If you want to talk about degrees of learning, such as dodge, there is no comparison between the two. With dodge, you’re trying to evade and survive, with holding ctrl down, you’re trying to view nameplates on objects.

The latter is an inconvenience, and i’ve already explained why they do it. It’s because they want people to find objects as some sort of challenge, but there are better ways of doing it than holding down a button and hiding nameplates.

As i’ve already said, it’s a legacy feature from GW1, but it’s not one that people would miss. They need to make it a toggle.

Agreed Vasham. Don’t worry, you’re not alone in this view. The vocal minority in this thread is just that, a vocal minority.

GW2’s dungeons were the most disappointing for me. It was just chaos without any organization. If they fix this, i’ll be back.

Bloodstone dust nerfs?

Did they nerf Bloodstone dusts from champ bags on this patch? I hope not. I have 21 characters and need over 51,000 pile of bloodstone dusts. I understand some people have several stacks. But I still need over 51,000 dusts. So please don’t nerf it.

I’m sorry, but you’re the exception. I’m willing to bet the average player has 3-5 characters at 80 only. 51,000 dusts for 21 characters is just insane.
