I do think off hand weapons should get a cosmetic boost though, why are they the same grind but half of the result?

Some of the one-handed weapons look quite nice though. I’m a huge fan of Quip but do not use pistol on any of my toons.

So if you play tpvp as much as i do. You’d know being stuck in a 4v5 is not fun at all.. So my only concern is that gwsupport team, or who ever is in charge of this, can add the ‘/resign’ function like they did in gw1.. I hate being stuck in a 4v5 match and forced to stay in the match(unless I rage quit(alt+F4)).. Point is, I want the /resign function. And I know a lot of other people do as well.

Too Much Temporary Content Can Only Harm GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kaaboose.3897

Kaaboose.3897

EDIT: This post is about TEMPORARY content, not the Bi-Weekly updates. Please keep that in mind when posting.
TL:DR Section Below!

No misleading Title here guys. I honestly believe ArenaNet are shooting themselves in the foot with their focus on Temporary content or “Living Story”
The notion that constantly creating new temporary content in two week intivals will be good for anyone is fundimentally flawed.
So we stay on topic let me state this: This post is not implying that regular bi-weekly content over an expansion is fundimentaly flawed (Though I am personally against it.) or that it is impossible to create a compelling story in such a way. The purpose of this post is to go over why an MMO dedicated to temporary content, reguardless of that contents quality cannot succeed.
As a demontration. I’m going to throw out a scenario based on a recent real world Media Succes: Game of Thrones. (Feel free to sub in any Show/Book/Game/Media/Etc. if you don’t like Game Of Thrones!)
Imagine if HBO discovered a way to distribute the show that was 100% Pirate proof, and then deceides to run the show a limited number of times over a limited time frame to encourage more viewers. Their viewers are already invested in the show so they figure they’ll make the effort to watch it. Sure enough their viewership would rise AT FIRST. This is because by using this method HBO has stoped new viewers from getting into the show. Why would a new viewer want to jump into the story half way? Can you imagine how hard that would be to follow? Now put yourself into the shoes of the viewers who HAD been watching the show up until that point. What if, for some reason, say holidays or sickness, they missed a few episodes? Now they have the choice of either carrying on knowing they’ll not be able to experiance that part of the show or to stop watching it. Some will inevitablly choose to stop watching. Over time the viewerbase would drop off and in the long term it wpu;d be harmful to the show, Both for HBO and for the viewers.
This is EXACTLY what Guild Wars 2 is doing to itself with its focus on temporary content. By putting in and then removing content instead of constantly building apon previously relased content you are creating a barrier to new players that want to try your game. In Guild Wars 1 Anet successfully removed a barrier to new players wanting to try their product by eliminating the Subscription Fee model. By focusing on temporary content they are creating another barrier to new players wanting to try their game, and worse, this one cannot be circumvented by simply paying a monthly fee.
I may have missed something here, and that’s why I’m making this post, but what exactly are the benifits of focusing on temporary content? The only benifit I can think of that someone might put forwards is that temporary content makes the game more immersive.
Does realesing any media on a limited timeframe make it more immersive? I honestly do not belive it does. All it does is create a sense of urgancey to make it SEEM more immersive. And if Guild Wars 2 can’t realese content that is immersive and entertaining without rellying on creating a sense of urgancy to back it up is that content worth realeseing in the first place?

TL:DR
Video Version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5SIPOg_sLQ
Temporary content, reguardless of the quality, would be better off being permentant so as not to alienate new and returning Guild Wars 2 players

A true completionist will do everything no matter how ridiculously hard it is and he won’t resort to ‘cheating’.

Oh so not true. Human nature is to do it the easiest, fastest way possible that requires the least amount of effort. Proof – gold buying, title running, speed clears, etc. Gods this was rampant near the end of GW1 (Ruins or Morah runs, Dungeon book runs, mission book rus, etc etc), I can only imagine the short cuts that exist in other games.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

well, every couple of weeks there’s a new gambling box with some skins in them, and either a temporary dungeon, jumping puzzle, or temporary “click on things” quest. This is how new “content” comes to the game. If you are looking for rewards and items, or a real mmo, you have come to the wrong game.

Hotjoin: it is time to let go

in PvP

Posted by: Stof.9584

Stof.9584

I’d like to, once again, remind the developers of how counterproductive Hotjoin is for SPvP, its playerbase and its aspirations as an Esport.

I’m calling on the active players, who have been a vocal part of the community for close to a year. It is time to let go of the Hotjoin format (or at least start thinking ahead):

Issues
- Glory farming = zerging.
- No one defends points (key aspect of the conquest gametype).
- No teamplay: general disregard for allies (doesn’t affect personal glory gain).
- Random joining / leaving affects teamspirit and social motivation.
- Lack of educational aids <> initial learning curve of the gametype.
- Varrying skilllevels makes it unenjoyable for both new and veteran players.
- Autobalancing restricts playing with friends.
- Gap between Hotjoin and Tournaments on multiple fronts.
- Map rotation: no one likes Raid of the Capricorn.
- 8v8 is an unplayable mess of AOE and spamming.
- …

Add a format identical to Rated Tournaments without the Leaderboard rating!
Instantly bridge the gap between both ends of the community.

Arguments
- Play for fun with friends – guaranteed on the same team.
- Practice new classes or builds in a setting resembling competitive play.
- Play from start to finish every game to practice openers & secondary objective strategies.
- Don’t worry about facing premades or glory farmers.
- Possible testing platform for solo queue / duo queue without messing with leaderboards.

I hope people will reply and add their own issues / arguments to this thread. Thanks.

All these new topics about Achievements

in Bazaar of the Four Winds

Posted by: Nikkinella.8254

Nikkinella.8254

I love how all these new topics have suddenly started popping up now ever since they announced that achievement points would unlock new content. And they all basically say the same thing. They want to limit the achievement points you get from doing certain things, some even suggest removing points already gained from doing dailies and such to “make it more fair for newer players”. Such BS. Do they really think we’re that stupid? All are thinly veiled attempts for the “leet” players to stay top dog and prevent more people from getting the same shinies they have so they can feel special. You aren’t fooling anyone. If achievement points were really that important to you, you would have made these topics months ago BEFORE they announced you’d get exclusive rewards for it. You all just want to wave your kitten at everyone in town and say “i’m better than you because I have something you don’t!” And I love how all of them try to make some excuse at how it will “balance things out”. It’s fine the way it is now.

Most of the things they are suggesting are ridiculous and would actually prevent a lot of people from getting anything. I spend maybe 6 hours a day playing, most of that time spent in WvW and occasionally do a dungeon with some friends. I don’t have like 10k points like some of the people who are suggesting these asinine changes. I think i’m about 100 shy of 5k. Which is maybe 2 to 3 times more than what a lot of people I’ve seen have in WvW. Anyone can tell you the amount of points you get from doing mostly just PvP related stuff is small. You’re welcome by the way for all the bonuses you get in PvE from crap we capture in WvW.

Not only would your foolish, selfish suggestions screw over PvPers, but screw over newer players as well, even though you claim the changes you want are for the benefit of newer players who missed out on dailies. In conclusion, don’t fix what isn’t broken!

Am I the only one who doesn’t care at all about miniatures?
Best rewards would be skins, food, or here’s an outlandish thought, something new & permanent maybe. So a zone, even just a ship with new lore and hopefully story that somehow ties to any big, epic threats to Tyria (dragons?) and not another silly outlaw group, would be much welcome. A new story that is going somewhere would be a much better reward than any item drop, imo.

Scavenger hunt will no doubt be fun. No special rewards needed if it’s fun to play-through imo.
Though I think I’m just getting tired of waves silly badguys and minievents from Living Story and hope for something with a better story that will have a permanent effect on the world…

Why Warrior is the worst class in spvp

in PvP

Posted by: BurrTheKing.8571

BurrTheKing.8571

1. You can remove 3 Conditions with Burst Skills by putting 20 points into the Defense line you have, I have to put 30 Puts in Wilderness to transfer 3 Conditions to my pet. You also have numerous other talents to remove Conditions not related to damage like Chill/Cripple/Immo so that your condition removal doesn’t remove those. You have Berserker Stance and Shake it Off, with Berserker Stance probably being the closest thing to the Ranger’s SoR ability. The only actual leg up i’ll say that Ranger’s have on Condition Removal vs Warriors is Healing Spring, which a vast majority of Ranger do not run.

2. Again, You have no Substain because you don’t gear for Substain, Adrenal heal will almost do 10k heal with full Clerics/Apothecary Gear…That’s the Equiv of my Troll Ungent…Generally you can use a Burst Skill to remove 3 conditions then Adrenal Heal thus giving you full bar again…. Which again can be used to remove conditions of have your substain heal going (which heals for around 500 or so every 3 seconds, Which is about the Equiv of what a Ranger can heal for every 3 seconds as well) However I will admit you will lose out unless you run Warhorn on converting conditions, Because that’s your only real way of getting Protection besides Rune of Forge (which I would consider on a Warrior for Sure)

3. You’re not forced into it, The people of your class just have a mentality for it…Probably from playing WoW.

4. You have vastly superior Utilities in this game compared to a lot of classes, certainly better then the Ranger.

5. You can’t hold your ground because you don’t gear or spec for it..

Again…..Ranger’s are not running around with Full Berserker Gear or Carrion Gear killing people….Ranger’s are running around in full Clerics/or Apothecary Gear…. Mostly because we’re forced into that role based on the lack of utility and burst damage…But we have to last in the fight, so we do that by gearing specifically for that purpose…

Your post shows a classic case of another class looking at warrior on paper and going “looks good to me.”

1. While Cleansing Ire is a decent new trait it is still inferior to rangers because of blinds. They are easily spammed and as a result only LB and Sword bursts are consistently good at removing said conditions. Berserker Stance is a good concept but it only lasts a pitiful 4 second and most importantly it does not remove the conditions currently on you. Most rangers don’t run healing spring? Now that’s a laugh and a half and is basically a downright lie.

2. Gearing for sustain huh? Guess what, no sane warrior would use “full Clerics/Apothecary Gear.” You know why? Because it reduces our DPS to pitiful levels while increasing our survivability very little. Toughness and healing power do not sustain make in GW2. Sustain comes from blocks, protection, teleports, and evades. Warrior lack most of these things in any major capacity. With “full Clerics/Apothecary Gear” It would = your Troll Ungent WITHOUT YOU RUNNING “full Clerics/Apothecary Gear.”

3. Yes. We are forced into Zerker Ammy because as I said before warriors can not relay on stacking burning, poison, bleeds constantly while our pet also supply additional DPS. Longbow and sword can only apply 2 conditions, and they can’t apply them nearly as often as other condition based builds, which means we can’t run a build in line with the current meta.

4. Superior Utilities? Rangers don’t rely on their utilities to survive because they have such good weapon skills. Warrior utilities in no way make up for our inherit deficiencies.

5. See 2.

In conclusion, if you haven’t played warrior for a significant period of time, don’t comment on how everyone who has been playing a warrior for the past year is bad at the game and doing it wrong. If you have some magical build that those of us n the Warrior forum have somehow managed to overlook, please, share it with us. And that applies to EVERYONE saying that we’re doing it wrong, give us this build that will suddenly make us 100% TPvP viable.
