16K HP? That´s kinda far away from bunker build
I´m not a bunker/tanky Thief and have over 18K HP myself (with Valkyrie equip). Even without single point in vitality. Based on the fact that Thieves and Eles have the same base health pool, you´re either badly specced/equipped or just trolling here. End of story…

Thief burst is still too high

in Thief

Wrong.

balance comes ONLY on tPvP basis. For WvWvW and PvE there’s a whole another balance, skills can be split.

In tPvP, the thief has very short uses for power/crit builds, now they’re almost all reduced to D/D + shortbow as a glass cannon, basically no different from a warrior, forced into that dumb GS hundred blades bullkitten to be highly competitive.

This is not promoting build diversity.

This is not symptom of a good meta.

And saying that other builds can still be viable is just false advertising and misinformation spreading.

Ask to current “top tier” players how viable is any other thief builds aside condition P/D with/without venoms or D/D burst, and have a good laugh.

Seems like that you didn’t get my point.
I said that there are outstanding build in terms of effectiveness that people abuse in order to be “competitive” in specific game modes. Those builds mainly exploits some insanely high capability in a specific sector (ex: bunker guardians), so people feel forced to use that build in order to be competitive because, if you use some other build, you aren’t performing in your full potential.
It isn’t that other builds are unviable, it is just that few builds are outstanding and they need to be put in-line for balance sake. Actually, other thief specs aren’t horrible or unusable, they are just not worth using because there is another spec who outstand in its role. That’s why you don’t see any burst guardian or tank thief, despite the fact that those builds are possible.

but i agree there are viable builds aside the common ones.

the point is that viable =/= competitive.

You can play as a bunker thief with S/D+ pow-tuf-vit gear or cleric gear and be an indestructible bunker, but stealth doesn’t prevent capping so a thief will NEVER be a viable bunker , because stealth is too important for a bunker thief.

A blind thief, currently, will never be a good roamer because it deals less burst damage than D/D while not providing any relevant support in order to take a D/P thief over another proff.

Current “competitive” builds offer tons of versatility, and they SHOULD NEVER nerf them on non-competitive builds level, because it would simply reduce the amount of versatility the professions can offer.

The nerf on OH dagger and TS really removed 90% of thief balanced/dps builds, without compensating, leading to extrmely polarized gameplay.

I can’t understand how could someone be in favor of it.

On Tarnished coast, the event chain leading up to opening Arah is broken.

For the past day, no one has been able to get into or complete Arah. We can also not complete our personal story quests.

This is a MASSIVE problem for the players on the server. How can we get it fixed?

People have filed bugs and opened support tickets, to no avail.

Stealthing away keeps you in combat forever

Stealthing away from combat and disengaging, despite fully resetting foes, keeps you in combat for unreasonably long distances. Is this a design decision or merely an oversight?

If it’s an oversight, it just needs to change.

If it’s a design decision, I can see why – you don’t want thieves to have a free “out of jail” card. The issue here is, stealth is still just that. You just need to tediously run like 3000 units of range away from your foe. Which people do, and in which case we’re just wasting time.

Consortium Chests & Minipets

I enjoyed the event, I really love the fractal dungeon, I didn’t get a precursor but I’m happy with my 20 slot bag, I don’t have particularly strong feelings either way about ascended gear and I like the new island.

However – I do want to leave some feedback about the consortium chests. I have bought bank space, 2 character slots, 1 pack of normal minipets, both Halloween costumes and all the Halloween minipets.

I don’t mind buying a small thing every content patch – I view it as contributing towards funding the next content patch. Sort of a voluntary subscription. I had intended to buy the Lost Shores minipets… until I saw they were only available in consortium chests.

I have bought some of the skins with gold from the trading post, and I’m glad that the chest contents are not soulbound.

I would however like to make very clear to the person in charge of the gem store that I have not bought a single black lion chest or black lion chest key. I have not bought a single consortium chest.

I like the game and I am willing to spend some real money when I’m happy with content patches, but only in exchange for fixed goods.

I will never pay real money for an RNG chest. Not even a single penny.

Also; I fail to see how this is offensive or inappropriate.
Does that mean that if my name is offensive to anyone, that I could have it removed?
I see that as an exploit to be abused by anyone wanting to indirectly harass another player.
Is there a list of non-subjective criteria we can refer to to avoid this?

No sorry, but don’t feel too bad about it. People on this forum make it sound like everyone who participated in the last event got a precursor. I got two exotics (a spear and some boots), and two rares. And you know what? That’s probably what you would have gotten too. Honestly, if I knew the event would last for three hours straight, I would never have started playing it..

And a 12g worth 20 slot box and an exotic trinket. Just gimme those two and I’ll be more than happy.

That’s ridiculous, might as well give everyone who participated a complimentary Legendary, and the ones who didn’t have their characters revert back to level 0.

Lost Shores: Creating Winners vs. Losers

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: zzled.9125

zzled.9125

Some of GW2’s best features came from rethinking MMO conventions to promote inclusiveness and cooperative play. For example, automatically sharing credit for monster kills, individual loot drops and individual gathering nodes. These allow everyone to “win”, rather than create some winners and some losers.

This way of thinking was absent from the Ancient Karka event chain. First, it was implemented as a “one-time” event that lasted several hours. I mentioned this already in an earlier thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lostshores/No-One-Time-Events-We-re-Paying-Customers/first

Second, completing the event rewarded some players with legendary precursors, creating some huge winners. The level of rewards here were completely disproportionate to anything else in the game so far. Whether you finish a World Event chain or run a dungeon, you’d be extremely lucky to get even a single exotic.

Together, these two factors created a lot of losers. If you live in the wrong time zone, you lose. If you were busy that day, you lose. If you quit halfway due to lag and/or frustration, you lose. If you got disconnected and couldn’t get back to a shard with an active event chain, you lose. If you “only” got L78 exotic drops from the the Ancient Karka chest, you lose. That’s a lot of losers. And people don’t want to play GW2 to feel like losers. Everyone wants to feel like a winner.

Rolling back the servers isn’t an option, so what can be done so that more people “win”?

(1) Design future World Events to allow everyone to participate. Some ideas that have come up on the forums include running the events multiple times over a day or week, or implementing some kind of instancing or phasing. At the absolute minimum, one time events should not give out the most valuable items on the TP.

(2) Find other ways to give everyone a much better shot at legendary precursors and make other activities more rewarding. For example, buff the drops from other event chains, such as the Orrian temples, to match the Ancient Karka event. Buff the dungeon rewards further to give at least one rare or exotic per run, or perhaps a bag of Tier 6 crafting materials.

This is just my 2 cents. You can cater to the people who feel like winners only if others lose, or the people who don’t care if other people lose as long as they have a good time. But I’d much rather play a GW2 in which everyone can win.

I feel not everyone was given an equal opportunity to play the event

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: Sunreva.8714

Sunreva.8714

What irks so many people about the event is that many players got to complete it multiple times (hopping overflows on different characters).

Meanwhile so many players were completely cut out from the event (like me) because our overflows with the event running were taken down at the last minute due to crucial server maintenance being performed at 10pm PST.

And of course, a huge amount of people never got the opportunity at all to do it due to work, family, or other RL obligations.

Everyone should have an opportunity to partake in the event, experience the content, and roll their dice on the big chest at the end. This is not what happened yesterday.

Even it out: Reward those who played.

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: AshG.1039

AshG.1039

I don’t care if I get a Precursor or a few rare/exotic items as I knew those were a roll of the dice on the loot table, but sacrificing a significant portion of my Sunday for the sake of running it three times in hopes of just finishing it once did not sit well with my stomach. Four of those hours, all I have to show for it was a repair bill and a screenshot of where I fell through the floor and died in an inaccessible part of the zone during Run 2’s final fight.

Since the Karka dropped nothing but shells and crab meat, and rarely at that, I feel like I really came out on bottom in the event. A nod by Anet that this was poorly designed & executed and some non-sellable account-bound reparations (i.e. the box and earring) would go a long way towards making many bug victims less hostile.

So because i miss one weekend others have up to 500 gold more than me?

I feel let down by this event due to lag/disconnects

Feeling a bit let down by this event, not so much by the content, I’m sure I would of enjoyed it if not for the crippling lag and disconnects.

I was online every night at start time and every night was the same thing, complete lag chaos. The first two nights were managable, it lagged a lot and would inevitably hang at some point, DC and put me in a different overflow to my guild but I got through them. The final night however was so bad that I couldn’t continue past the ancient karka section.

After an hour plus of having pretty much zero control over my character’s actions I asked myself “Is it worth it?” The game was freezing for 30 seconds or more at times and I felt like I was making no contribution to what was going on, other than providing other players with xp for reviving me from the deaths that I couldn’t see coming. I had had enough, feeling utterly frustrated I switched to an alt and went back to Lions Arch.

Today I’m reading people who got to the end of event chain and then DC’d by the servers are being allowed to claim their chest.

So my question is this… What about those of us who would of completed the event had it been playable? Can we run the event again? Will we get some sort of compensation?

Gates of Ahn'qiraj opening got trumped.

I had lost faith in the ability of MMOs to turn an event into a laggy crapfest where the server blows up and denies everyone the prizes. Congratulations guys, you really one-upped the worst event in WoW history with the single most breathtaking example of game design and server incompetence that I have ever personally witnessed. In fairness, Everquest’s Sleeper event may still hold the overall crown, but I wasn’t online for that one when it happened.

But this, this is a masterpiece. From the horrible core concept of one-time events that occur in the middle of a workday for most of the playerbase, to the servers grinding to a smoking halt in the bigger fights, to the piece de resistance of shutting down the game for a patch when the group I was in had the boss in the final stage and were literally seconds away from downing him after hours of laggy hell, there was not one facet of this experience that was not perfectly crafted to troll your customers. The fact that players had to collaborate outside of the game to even make it into instances where they could attempt to play through the event, only to then have the event crash on them and make them start again from square one, really brings me back to the golden days of MMORPGs. That rare sensation of having a game designer’s genitals pressed against my cheek while their hips gyrate and I sob quietly is not something I’ve experienced from any other online game in recent memory. Even SWTOR managed somehow to not be made of that much disappointment, and it was made by EA! My hat is off to you, sirs.

Now you just need to cap it off by having an ingame announcement from the developers in a PvP zone and forget to turn on the invulnerable flag for the head designer. At that point, GW2 will have cemented its place in online gaming history forever.

Precursors, really?

So out of lets say, 100 people who spent 3 hours or so participating in a long-chained hard event, a lucky 40% win the RNG lottery and rewarded with a precursor which nets them a sum of gold any other player would have to farm half a year for?

Zommy was fair, you had to get 4 exotics, and sacrifice them for chance, but this event? Wow, and hearing about things like people with Trial accounts walking away with Dusk, while others are getting drops worth barely 1g, horrible, terrible move, has utterly put me off playing or even making an effort, feels like half of my friends suddenly got a ‘free’ rich boost out of nowhere with me and a few others getting disgraceful rewards in comparison, severely disappointing.

Never been one to be sore about others getting lucky with drops but when its such a high percentage with some people getting left out, feels almost like I was cheated considering I put in the same time and effort, with half of the players that helped walking away with barrels of legendary treasure, while the other half watches slack-jawed and speechless and some angry too.

We feel that everyone should have the ability to contribute no matter what time of the day it is. How we’ve came to this conclusion is that no player’s time is more valuable than another. Everyone has different off peak hours for whatever reason. Players should not be punished or unable to experience and view the same content as everyone else because they play at a different time. They too are paying customers.

The above quote was taken from the WvW forums regarding “Night Capping” by Matt Witter (Game Designer, ANet). Please apply the same logic to World Events, especially if you’re giving out drops like legendary precursors. Please stop the “one-time” events tied to a specific time of day. There are lots of suggestions on this forum about how to get around it. Implement phasing on a character/account basis, let it run repeatedly for a week or a month, etc. The rest of us might not be playing during peak concurrency hours, but we’re paying customers too.

Thank you.

thanks for nothing =/ i was pretty upset with the Halloween event, it wasnt a very big thing… just simply run around and talk to ghosts and write it down, and then in the very end you kill the MK thinking it was going to be something awesome (which it was, dont get me wrong) but guess what the end result was for me? toilet paper… thats probubly the worst loot i have ever gotten, even more so from a 1 time only event boss.
which you could do repeatedly by the way…

and now the lost shores event.. i worked pretty much all weekend and my fiance had to tell me about it, all i heard was “dont do it, its bugged” or “wasnt worth the time” which honestly didnt surprise me due to the last 1 time only event. now i love the game and i love the design team, but please… i would rather you not come out with fresh idea’s or events if they are going to be crap. the skins of the shoulder pads were all the same if they are cloth/medium/heavy either way, and the events i heard had nothing but bugs.

the FINAL event literaly was a 1 time only thing, so because of hearing and experiencing being able to kill the MK many times that day, i didnt think anything of it. but THIS EVENT was very much so.. a one time deal. and then after hearing about all the people who had issues with DC’ing and not being able to loot kinda made me upset. and to finish it off, so many people got exotics like the precursors you need for the legendaries. which only makes the people mad who are really working hard for them. im pretty upset with the way these events turned out, like i said i love the game and i think its amazing, but the events… are a major piss off.

long story short. come out with less events that are kitten, and make sure you keep the game awesome.

Sincerely, a pissed off gamer with a life outside the game.

I wish someone would have mentioned that our levels made a difference, because now I have items that are 1/10 of the value because I played on a different character, even though I did the same amount of work as I would have on my level 80.

On the Halloween update, and this update they said there’d be a one time event. Silly me, I thought it’d be some epic event in which you get some amazing items!.. no. It’s a cutscene. On this update the mobs are OP. Halloween’s update was amazing. Loved it. But this? No. Think more before you release this. You can’t 100% the map, you can’t walk around without getting 1 hit by some Karka.

Couldn’t agree more. The Halloween update was awesome. I haven’t had that much fun in a while.

But this event is pure garbage. The scenery is nice, but everything else is a mess. I don’t even see a purpose to this event… at all. There is little communication, everything is bugged, an island with mobs that 1-shot you, and I’m not seeing any cool rewards. This is so stupid. I can’t even bring myself to the login screen because I don’t have any motivation.

I am very disappointed.

Although I give the artists great credit for making it look great, we killed 4 veterans and 2 champions and we received ZERO drops. In fact, the only thing I’ve gotten in the new zone were a few scales off of the lizards and some passion fruit. I’ve really enjoyed GW2 but this new event/zone is an abortion. It really makes me not want to play anymore which is really sad. Hopefully something is done or I fear the attitude of the player base will really suffer.

The dialogue... oh lord, the dialogue...

in Personal Story

Posted by: EndlessDreamer.6780

EndlessDreamer.6780

I believe the issue is with the genre of higher fantasy that you have the expectations of epicness.

The Norn are all stoic hunters, the humans all heroic, the Charr all powerful, Asura are all genius inventors, etc.

However by constantly applying this same trope to every set of dialogue, you create a feeling of staleness.

After one hundred Norns all talking about glory in the exact same tone of voice, you lose their individuality. The characters become defined by their races instead of colored by them. Yes, a Norn might have been raised in a society that glorifies hunting and power, but would -all- Norn have the same “For glory! They shall sing my songs in the halls of etc etc” sphiel?

Cause currently, they do.

I think ArenaNet has fallen back in to the old trope that everything has to be epic. No character must show weakness. It must all be amazing. They all rise to the occasion and they are all heroes. They never once falter.

Hell, we even miss the one crowning moment of possible moral ambiguity in the series, the defection of Logan.

It’s far too black and white and far too unbelievable. It works in a limited sense, but unfortunately, it reduces the believability of the character as a multi-faceted individual if all of them share it.

So I think a bit more work needs to be done to flesh out your side characters. We don’t want all of them to be simpering cowards, but it’s not bad to hate a NPC. We don’t have to like them all. It’s more believable if there are some we like and some we find insufferable. It also adds to the story immensely if they are redeemed or not redeemed, versus us going in knowing that they are:

A) Either going to be heroes and succeed
B) Going to be Heroes and die trying.

I’ll be completely honest, I really didn’t buy GW2 for the story telling. I love the game mind you, but the NPCs could use some serious work.

Can I suggest that things like Noll and Canach be made instanced events in the future (similar to the personal story?) The issue seems to be based on not resetting properly – instancing them should fix that, and the events don’t seem to be ones that really benefit from being in the open world.

I’m disappointed with what I’ve seen so far. I understand the event isn’t over and there could be amazing things on the next 2 days. But unfortunately today’s phase of the event has been a complete waste of time so far in my opinion.

Here is why:

The opening event for this phase of the Lost Shores event consisted of spamming abilities at veteran crabs, some of which were not able to be hurt except through dots that were instantly removed after one tick of damage, in an extremely laggy environment. The event was lackluster, the only cool thing about it being the cutscenes.

After the laggy auto-attack fest that started this event you get a letter in the mail telling you to visit 3 people in different zones and gather information from them on the karka. After you go and help each of these people with there little quests (taking roughly 45 minutes) you come back and give what you’ve gathered to Researcher Levi in Lion’s Arch.

She rewards you with 5 Captain’s Council Commendations. These commendations can be used to purchase things from a vendor where the lions statue used to be. What you can purchase from the vendor with these commendations is absolute trash and a complete rip off.

I understand that there’s a few other quests out there related to this but they give the same rewards.

Here’s what she sells:

Black lion key – 285 Commendations. This is absolutely ridiculous. 285? I only got 5. Black chests don’t give anything worth that much effort.

Crude salvage kit – 1 token. This is the lowest tier of salvage kits in the game. They can be purchased from nearly any vendor for 32 copper. So I can get 5 of these. Neat.

Disasembler 3BEK Kit – 25 tokens. A low tier salvage kit with 250 uses… Neat.

Then they sell you versions of all the gathering tools in the game but with 250 uses each instead of the standard 100 uses. Why would I go and work for these commendation points to buy this crap when I can just go to any regular vendor and buy it for a few copper?

Next they sell you Lionguard weapons. They cost 40 commendation tokens each. You have always been able to just buy these from a vendor in lions arch for 9,800 karma per weapon (which is very cheap)

So basically I just wasted 45 minutes to get a fraction of the amount of tokens I need to buy vendor trash I could go and purchase from any vendor in the game for 32 copper – 4 silver depending on what I want. Oh and lets not forget the cool weapons they sell that you’ve always been able to get for a cheap amount of karma… Weapons that you never see anyone with because nobody wants them….

TL;DR – Phase one feels like a waste of time to me because the opening event was a generic event no different than any other dynamic event in the game and the rewards are a complete rip off…

Thief Patch Discussion

in Thief

Posted by: Rukia.4802

Rukia.4802

with this patch, the thief is literally doomed.

Glass cannons thieves have never been a problem ( they were only for nubz in hotjoin and w3), but with those nerfs they totally screwed balanced/pressure builds.

As an S/D player, i was expecting the nerf on tactical strike ( still it got hit too much, they could simply put the daze cap on 2.5 secs instead of the buggy 3 secs) but the nerf on Dancing Dagger and C&D totally destroys balanced/pressure builds, whose now have nothing to deal damage if not their autoattack.

Balanced backstab builds are screwed ( since those rely on constant medium-high damage with C&D+backstab, not on a single damage combo like the glass cannon builds) damage S/D builds are screwed, S/P builds were already screwed.

Now the only decent options we have are P/D venom share and D/D condi damage.
And since in tourneys there are better defenders than the thief, the only really good build we have is P/D venom share/cond damage.

They compensate with nothing.

In PvP, Blinding powder will never be used if not by nubz or by stealth stacking builds, if you don’t run with Shadow Step ( or, in some niche builds , RFI) + Shadow refuge you are hopeless.

Venoms scaling with power won’t make power venom share builds viable, neither will make P/D power builds viable.

Shadow trap is still sub-par to portals, still it needs triggering by an enemy to activate.

No bug fixes with stealth ( channeling following you everywhere, pets following you everywhere etc).

No fixing/changes on bad skills ( Flanking strike pathing/being too slow to hit reliably, Shadow shot root on stab making it useless as a gap closer etc…)

A good portion of our Utility skills is still worthless, if not in some niche builds.

Basically the thief has been removed from competitive play.

Maybe some thieves will overcome this with their skill ( like retri paladins were able in WoW Tbc), but as soon as people will reach the skill platau, the thief will be destroyed by EVERY CLASS.

Again, the thief would be better off totally reworked: nerfing the class so hard doesn’t make any sense.

They’re going into the whack-a-mole game they were so afraid of.

Finally, someone that knows what they’re talking about. This is exactly what I’ve been trying to get across, balanced builds needs that constant medium damage since we have no burst like glass does. This hurts nothing but balanced… ANet has no freaking clue what they are doing.
