Anyone else miss the token system?

You know, dungeon tokens, no matter what happens, if you finish a dungeon you get tokens you can exchange for the items from that dungeon.

Why did anet have to implement pure rng ever since living story started? Why can’t we get the system that was so beautiful and gave everyone a fair go at whatever they wanted?

GW2 has melted into the pile of all other mmos in this regard and it’s very disappointing.

Once I figured out the correct method I managed to get this achievement done fairly painlessly and had fun while doing it.

The key is to get at least 30 points during the grace period. You have to play very aggressively. Stay near the starting camp and get lots of arrows. Rations aren’t important, you will die before the grace period ends and be granted a free ration and arrow when you respawn. If you can get the pistol or the sword at the start do so. If you have the sword don’t attack a single person 3 times, but instead attack 3 different people once. As long as you do damage to them you will get 1 point for the hit and 5 points for the kill when they eventually die. The pistol is basically 2 headshots that you can use while moving, so use it for 2 free kills right off the bat before people have endurance.

Next head to the main camp and get at least 4 arrows. Climb up the tower and target people as they come by. Again don’t waste time or arrows trying to kill people, the idea is to weaken as many different players as possible. hitting 4 different players will net you a total of 24 points eventually.

If you die during the grace period and end up back at the main camp you are good, just keep doing what you were doing. If you get sent to a far camp just gather as many resources as possible and stay near another person.

Now for the important part. once the grace period ends, you need to be the first person to DIE. DO NOT KILL ANYONE. Dying first allows you to obtain all the blue ghost balls that spawn from every person who scavenges during the first 3 minutes of the game. If you are at the main camp this is usually 20-30 balls, and usually 10-20 balls at the outlying camps. Each one gives you 1 point, so you will end up with a score from 60-70.

After this you have two different strategies. The goal is to end the game as quickly as possible while still maintaining a steady stream of points. Every trap you set off is worth 2 points, and every kill is worth 5. if you have a game with a lot of hiders who stocked up rations and are in a bush then you want to max out your balls to 15, find them and spawn a kakra on their head. Wait until they start running. They will almost always do a dodge right off the bat. Once the kakra is fully out of the ground drop a KD trap slightly ahead of them. If it spawns on them it will not go off, it needs to be ahead of them, and it takes 0.5 seconds to cast so plan accordingly. Make sure to place it so they can’t miss it. This will give you a 99% chance of the kakra killing them and them triggering the trap for a instant 7 points.

If you find someone running around instead of hiding then you will want to switch to alarm traps instead. These can only be triggered while running so if someone is just hiding don’t bother since it won’t trigger. If you see a runner you follow the same method as the KD trap. It will apply 2 stacks of torment to them. If they are smart they will stop moving, wait for it to drop off, heal and then start up again. Once they start up again hit them with another. If they don’t stop moving you can stack them, and hold enough motes for 3 traps total, giving you 6 pts, and them almost certain death for another 5 points. These are much cheaper than the kakra+KD combo so you will get more points doing this initially, but if it means the match will draw out longer, then it might be better to go for the above combo to finish off hiders.

I found this method to be much more fun then trying to survive to the end. You get to do a lot more killing, rack up more points (I usually got highest points every round, even though I was one of the first to die), and get to annoy more people from the grave.

4. More griding. I’m talking about the Candidate Trials. Grinding the same event for 8 times(if you make it without dying) and horrible rewards. Why the useless lockpicks? If you wanted to create a sense of getting much loot, don’t do it with worthless grey items.

I found this pretty hilarious, and at this point, very typical of anet.

“Bag of Loot” – full of worthless trash.

I’ll start getting super excited if I ever see “Bag of Trash” cause obviously anet is stationed in kittening bizarro world.

Finally I recalled the stopgap solution of a great princess who was told that the

@TheLaughingMan

I agree somewhat, but you’re being a bit harsh. Some of the skins are genuinely charming, such as the pistol, the rifle (in asuran hands) the hammer, and maybe the staff. That being said, I do think that this is a kitten poor decision on Anet’s part. I come from GW1 as well when microtransactions were something we didn’t hear about till WELL into the game’s life. I want to close my eyes and blame it on the employee they pulled from NCsoft, but more than likely Anet has seen how successful it can be to delude the playerbase into thinking that it’s not that hard to get these new skins.

Before I get flak from this, let me explain. The calculated drop rate for a weapon ticket scrap is around 10%. give or take. Anet stated that these would be replacing keys on the loot table, and keys were being made rarer. Well. Pre-patch BL keys had about a 25-33% drop rate. They would also drop (very rarely) from the overworld, and in certain story missions. IE, they in fact did NOT replace them in the loot tables, they were simply crammed in as yet another item to get crammed in the BL chests without much foresight, while making keys rarer, thus less opportunity to re-open chests. Thus giving players even less options in obtaining these skins. And let’s face it, the drop rates for obtaining one in the Candidate Trials are abyssmal. And your best bet is by playing on the top tier, which has a new type of scaling method previously unheard of in-game, so you’re better off Solo-ing it rather than with a group. I won’t point any fingers, but all of these sleazy aspects start to boil up over time.

Personally, I think they should go back to the Dragon Bash model, where you get certain chests from monsters, and all these chests have a chance at one of the new weapon skins. While at the same time, introducing cash shop chests that have a better chance at it. Otherwise, it’s using clever language and objective lies to exploit players out of their money.

It’s either that, or the Wintersday Model, which I don’t particularly like, because you could ONLY get them via cash shop. But at least people knew that they’re money would be getting them something, not a big virtual middle finger.

Why would I want to vote for the good canidate? this isn’t real life. I want the game to be interesting and exciting, not good and boring.

Also the only thing that really matters is that Evon’s fractal is 100x better from what we know. If Anet wanted to make it an even fight there wouldn’t be 5 dev posts supporting Evon and 0 supporting Kiel. They would have revealed some juicy secret about the reactor that made us interested. They would of put the minigames and trail portals near each other instead of putting Evon’s in plain view close to the WP and hiding Kiel’s back in a corner. They wouldn’t have sent us 20+ “support reminders” with 2s a token and a giant VOTE FOR EVON slapped on them. And they wouldn’t have made a pirate election where one of the candidates isn’t a pirate and doesn’t like treasure…

Engineer has so many great tools to deal with Thieves. For example – blocking/defensive abilities to stop their opening burst, especially Static Shield which flips the momentum of the fight instantly in a 1v1.

In the fight below I had to fight 3 thieves at the same time, which meant I had to abandon the normal tactics of timing cloak and dagger dodges etc for a far more pressured/frantic playstyle. I know two of the thieves are uplevelled, however they still apply a huge amount of pressure. Plus, I didn’t have my Elite available.

Yes I know, these weren’t great players. But, as many others have pointed out in this thread, Engineers are more than capable of dealing with the vast majority of Thieves and shouldn’t need to complain about them being OP.

For those stating the waypoint cost reduction is the factor to vote Ellen Kiel.

REMEMBER THAT THIS IS TEMPORARY AND WON’T MATTER AT ALL AFTER 4 WEEKS

How much do you plan to waypoint in 4 weeks? And it’s a reduction cost (10%? maybe 20% even 50% won’t matter on the long term).

At the end even if the other option (keys) won’t save you much, it isn’t like you’re going to save tons of money with Kiel’s offer…

Will you sacrifice not facing Abaddon in one of the most epic battles in Tyrian history (epic enough to transform a sea into the most famous desert) just to save 20 or 30 silver total? Really? You can get that in a blink.

Thieves played by skritt?

in Thief

Posted by: Lokheit.7943

Lokheit.7943

The thing is that the Thief has 7 possible weapon combinations. Some of them suck, and as the Thief shares cooldowns between both sets, the switch should either be for utility (Shortbow) or synergy (like mixing S/D with D/P).

You know how many weapon combinations a Warrior have? 19. Ranger, Guardian, Necro or Mesmer all have 10 or more sets. And all them have separate cooldown on their switch so it’s viable to focus on both weapon sets making the diversity grow.

You know that an Elementalist with a single weapon has almost as many weapon skills as the Thief with all his weapons combined? Yep, that’s how versatile the Thief is.

Once you get a weapon set, there are a number of ways to play it, and many of them either suck or are constantly hit by the nerf-bat which corners all thieves on very similar builds to stay competitive.

I’m trying to stay on support builds even with recent hard hits making even more players focus on backstabbing around.

The reason you see many thieves using similar builds (with their own tweaks to adapt to play style) is that it’s the only way to stay competitive with the least versatile profession in the game.

The Thief needs at least another off-hand (a second sword would be perfect) and a 2 handed ranged weapon (a rifle to create a sniper role and finally give the Thief 1200 range so he can fight in WvW), which would put him at 11 combinations and on par with most professions (despite not benefiting from switchs so he would still be inferior in viable options, but at least there would be some diversity).

It matters, but we all pretty much know exactly what happened at the Mouth of Torment.

Nobody knows what happened at Thaumanova…yet.

Main reason I don’t care too much about Thaumanova is because nothing in the game really entices me to ask why. I’ve done some exploring of the place, you have elemental chambers and people trying to fix it. The problem is that the whole “Asuran(s) scientist messed up, something bad happened” is used soooo oftennn (seems like theres at least one event per map where this happens) that I don’t care much for it. There is nothing in that place that I found that really makes me want to know what happened, nothing that tugs on my lore strings. I mean I’m a guy that went and translated in game books to try to find Final Rest. Lore is something I love, but I find the reactor not lore interesting at all. Maybe if there were hints to…I dont know the history of the ruins in which the Asurans stay. Perhaps link to another dragon. Anything like that. The whole thing surrounding the reactor at it’s current state doesn’t seem like an important issue with the world of Tyria at all. The way it is presented it feels like a side quest rather than something important. The creation of an entire desert/desolation and the fall of a god is very important to the world.

Keil is boring, her frac will be boring, and if it was perma wp reduction I’d be all for it but choosing a boring npc that will play a big role in the game (presumably) for a months worth of wp reduction isnt worth it. And besides, I dont see any Charr on the captains council, time for that to change. I may hate Charr but I hate boring more.

While I have much love and respect for Kiel, there’s no way she’s going to win. I had planned on giving all my votes to her… up until Evon promised discounted Black Lion Keys.

How dare Evon do this to me! Kiel offers nothing compared to the discounts off of the much sought after items. I must vote with my wallet, no matter how much it pains me. There is no other option at this point…

This brings up the following questions: Is there a way that Kiel will change her promised offers? And would it be OK for us to start a petition to have Kiel offer more to (cough)buy(cough) our votes?

I know barely anything about Evon, and that makes me interested in how ArenaNet will build his character in this Living Story and upcoming ones.

I really don’t understand the idea behind a “rare chance” at temporary content. RNG is bad enough on its own but have both together, and it just sucks for most. I don’t favor the idea of having a rare chance at that sword not getting it then never getting another chance once the event is over. I noticed they didn’t do that with Kites. They didn’t do it with pay crafting items, they didn’t do it with the Aether Armor…. but weapons is OK? I wouldn’t mind a rare chance if the item doesn’t stop being a chance after two weeks. Or if the item is a loot for two weeks then gone forever. But both RNG and two week availability suck.
