Florida was a swamp all throughout the panhandle. Kryta used to be a jungle/swamp. They cut down the trees and irrigated out the water to use for growing crops. It’s not a matter of a changed aesthetic, it’s a matter of what would realistically happen if you plant a massive capital dead in the heart of the swamp and then cut down the trees and pump out the water.

Here is my suggestion. I want an off hand auto attack that will coincide with the main hand auto attack. My off hand weapons just sit there till I decide to hold up my off hand sword and try to block an attack. That’s my suggestion.

I think the issue right now is that they nerfed the rewards so much, it wouldn’t make since to make it even tougher.

I completely support adding a mechanic or making the fight a little tougher (NOT more HP) but they would have to increase the rewards slightly to keep people engaged.

It’s safe to say that it is a walk in the park at the moment.

I know, i know… it isn’t supposed to be super hard either, and behemoth & friends shouldn’t be wipefests. But should you be able to go afk and auto-attack the boss until it eventually goes down?

Right now, they’re practically “rare piñatas”.
People check their timer. “Oh, Shatterer i 5 minutes!”. He arrives, and they stand in the same position auto-attacking for a few mins, get their reward, and moves on.

In my opinion. Meta-bosses in every zone should have their difficulity upped to a state where they’re not “piñatas” anymore. Their abilites should be able to kill us if we’re not paying attention. The fights should require some sort of “skill”. We should feel satisfied after downing a meta-boss. Not just for the loot, but for the challenge.

After all… they are a part of the “end-game”…

What do you think?

Our characters forced to act immature, narrow

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Weindrasi.3805

Weindrasi.3805

We already know that an issue with Guild Wars 2’s personal story and character personality system (brutal-dignified-charming), is that our characters are forced to be very stereotypical good guys no matter what. Cookie-cutter characters, white knights, goodie-two-shoes, you name it. There’s no real personality.

However, another issue with the character personality system is that our characters are forced to be immature, and very narrow-minded. When we encounter NPC’s who are unconventional or controversial, our only reply options when we talk to them are thoughtlessly immature, or just plain narrow.

For example, in Mount Maelstrom, a group of Asuran scientists are dissecting Risen body parts to look for ways to defeat the Risen. When they tell you about it, you only get two reply options:
1 EW! That’s revolting!
2. I see. I’m going to leave now. (AKA, I feel awkward and don’t know what to say)

The “Ew, thats revolting!” reply option is considered “Dignified”. I just don’t get that. How is rudely screaming “Ew, that’s revolting!”, after someone tells you about their difficult and important job, a dignified thing to do? How is it even logical, when your character is supposedly hardened by combat?

I wish our characters weren’t forced to act like narrow minded kids. “Holier-than-thou” reply options like the one described above leave a sour taste in my mouth. I wish Arenanet provided us with more diverse personality and behavior options for our characters. For example, in reply to the Asuran scientists, our character could have these choices:

Barbaric 1: “Ew! That’s revolting, and your krewe is vile!”
Barbaric 2: “I hear you take the parts you dissect by force. HAH! Sounds fun!”
Charming 1: “That must be difficult work for you. I admire your dedication.”
Charming 2: “You work with corpses all day, but you look so clean and well-kept! What’s your secret?”
Dignified 1: “For the good of Tyria, work like yours is nessecary, though unpleasant. Stay strong, friend.”
Dignified 2: “The boldness of your work is commendable. I would be glad to aid you, if you need it.”

For many reasons I'm disappointed with the game

So, for may reasons, a lot of players seem to feel like this game falls flat in terms of MMO gaming. The purpose of this post is to really get some discussion and analysis going about what systems, design flaws, and lackluster structures seem to hurt the social aspect of the game.

What provoked this was the harsh realization that open world content seems to just deteriorate into people hitting a pinata for rewards and running away like selfish little animals. What i mean is, people just mob up, destroy events (which are usually extremely easy and require nothing but zerging, button-mashing, no need for direct healers, enemies that have little to no depth to them, etc.) and then scatter. The world is like a bunch of carnival attractions, but nothing seems cohesive. Part of this, i blame on the removal of the trinity (removal of meaningful, distinct, effectual roles making up team / balance integrity) part of this i blame on the reward and content structure itself.

Some would argue that dungeons fill this gap, but there is really no depth, i feel, in the combat system. Everything just seems homogenized beyond belief to accommodate the removal of dedicated roles. Down state, self-heal button, bosses with ridiculous HP that can kill you in two hits…it’s beyond silly. The lack of depth, the content structure that encourages solo play, the homogeneous class design, etc..it all just comes together to make the game feel like a mockery.

Outside of the gameplay aspect, social features like Guilds get absolutely no love. Guild Missions are coming, but they seem to just be mere contrivances that circumvent the need to really look at how kitten poor the combat and skills systems are. They just seem like they’re going to be yet another grind race like Fractals for the people with large guilds or PvE hermits. I really think this implementation is going to fail at getting people to play together because they aren’t addressing the underlying problem which is the combat and skills. People don’t play together because there’s no inherent structure in it. It’s unnecessary and boring when everyone can do everything and no roles are distinct in combat.

A clear cut list of aspects that make this game very homogenized, casualized, boring, and anti-social:

- No direct trade
- Multi-Guild
- No roles
- Poorly designed combat, skills, traits, combo fields, down state (shallow)
- Encounters are braindead
- Events are zergfests that require no mechanical strategy or player skill
- Players have no reason to actually group in the open world because of class structure.
- No LFG tool
- Can’t bring PvE gear into sPvP

Many other reasons…feel free to add to the discussion.

Manifesto trailer; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35BPhT-KI1E

From their own words, – Orr is a hyper place. It’s a place about the power of zhaitan. Now that he is dead, and the next expansion is coming with a new dragon, should Orr completely change? all three zones, with more opening up, new look, new monsters new story.

It’s too extreme to do a “cataclysm” and change everything every expansion. but they could change Orr.

This is the problem with storytelling in MMOs. you follow a storyline, and then the exact opposite thing happens than what was meant to. “the enemies respawn 10 minutes later, everyone doing the same thing I’m doing”.

In many areas of the game, that are not end-game specific, the events down reoccur so often. But in Orr. Its crazy.

And as a constitutition. As a playground for lvl 80. the zones where you can be lvl 80 at full power. Don’t they deserve to change? If next boss is jormag, it would be great to see how his powers will overtake orr, and how his minions will recapture the forgotten land.

Alternatively, they can just make a new place and set of end game zones. but then your still going to be stuck with Orr. the “outland” of Guild Wars 2. the “ugh” place.

If they changed everything, it will also feel like that the beginning with zhaitan was something special. future players wont experience that part of the world. Because GW2 was about changing. not static. not running plinx four years from now. At least I dont hope so.

What do you think? change orr? or new end game zones. and if so – how can they make smarter events and storytelling?

Nov 15 – the day loot got ruined

Jan 28 – the day loot got ruineder

Feb 26 – the day loot gets ruinederer?

I dread each new patch because the game gets tighter and tighter. 6 dungeons in a row, no rares. 2 fractal runs in a row, 1 proper rare and 1 exotic useless sigil (that shouldn’t count as an exotic. maybe if they were forgeable/salvageable…).

Salvage rates dropped in nov. Forge rates have been terrible for me recently. Personal experience means more to me than any PR statement, and we’ve seen how statements have been blatant lies (vet guaranteed drops).

I’m running out of things worth doing in the game, it’s like I’m being boxed out of every aspect. Does Anet want me to stop playing??

Let's Start the Karma DR Dialogue

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Many players are concerned and upset over the malfunctioning DR, the lack of communication on the matter, and how DR is even supposed to function. In an attempt to facilitate some structured communication, I’m listing all the major questions that I am aware of. Please feel free to reply to this thread with questions I’m missing.

  • Is the company aware that DR is malfunctioning to the point that players are reporting reduced rewards before they can finish a single DE chain?
  • Is the DR meant for bots, and unintentionally affecting players who are legitimately farming?
  • Until now many of us have assumed that the ability to log in and out to reset the DR (for karma, at least) was meant for players to sort of, “prove they are human”. Now this is gone. What does this change represent? Why was such a huge change not in the patch notes?
  • Is it intentional that we get reduced karma rewards part way through karma boosters?

Thanks for the assistance, everyone. I’m sure we can have a respectful dialogue that soothes everyone’s concerns and gets the information we need out to the players and patrons.

a) He is a poorly written character whose only purpose is to pull deus ex machinas out of his butt in order to move the plot along.

b) For any non-Sylvari player character his introduction into the plot is awkward and embarrassingly bad. We’ve not met him at all, but suddenly we’re the best of chums! Yeah, right.

c) His voice-acting is horrible. It lacks any sort of emotion. Did they intend for him to be an Asura golem at first?

d) He steals your Personal Story and it becomes his Personal Story of how he got the Pact together and lead the charge into, and eventually cleansing, Orr. Your character is reduced to nothing but a loyal side-character. A toadie. My Norn Warrior would’ve rightfully killed him for ruining and stealing his Legend.

And perhaps the worst sin of them all

e) He replaces one of the three better and well-liked characters in the game: the Pact Mentors. Tybalt is an amazing character, and so is Warmaster Forgal. I can’t speak of the Priory one but I assume she is a great character as well. Going from Warmaster Forgal to Trahearne left a very, veeeery sour taste in my mouth.

I can do thirty Five-Dolyak Arm Curls.

Would you pay a subscription to play GW2?

I absolutely, positively, would not play this game if it had a sub fee and this is coming from someone who played GW1 for close to 6 years.

I just feel like this game has nothing to offer anyone except casual gamers. The combat has little to no depth, there is no distinct role specialization, you can’t play a healer class, only one PvP mode, boring and horrendously built skill / trait system, grouping is semantic, shallow, and no content really supports or portrays depth to the gameplay systems. On top of this, the game lacks basic features that should have been in before launch and it also lacks social cohesion on many levels. Multi-guild was a mistake, removing the healer class was a mistake, designing encounters less intuitively than the first game was a mistake, and designing a completely vapid combat system was a huge mistake.

I enjoy this game for what it is, but i’ll never spend another dime on it and i’ve never spent in the cash shop because this game just feels and plays like a failure when i compare it to how much i enjoyed the depth and quality of GW1. Just my opinion.

I think Veterans/Champions = Worthless

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pandeh.5248

Pandeh.5248

So a while back ANET posted somewhere that Veterans/Champions should allways be worth more than trash mobs. So far about 50% of the veterans/champions I kill don’t have any loot at all. If they do its usualy a grey or blue item.

Sure I don’t mind getting a blue item, but ANET has to do something to make vets and champs worth killing.

We need to get rid of the trash tagging and make the bigger mobs more rewarding. It’s not fun to play events when all you do is tag all the trash mobs that die in a few seconds. Luckily I play warrior so I can tag most of them before they die.

But other classes especially mesmer I’ve heard struggle to do this. Big mobs should reward more than the trash, as it is today if you have the choice to tag 5 trash mobs or kill a veteran, any player would tag the 5 mobs since they know it’s a higher chance of getting some loot.

I don’t know how they can fix this without nerfing the loot on trash mobs even more than it is currently. And if they buff the vet/champ loot too much ANET will not be happy, since we know they don’t really like us picking up stuff..

Just my 5 cents, trash mobs should be trash mobs and the bigger ones should carry the rewards..

i think it was a mistake not to have a healing profession

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: lothefallen.7081

lothefallen.7081

fallen, you’re incorrect, you don’t need healing to create any of those interesting fights, and they make them more boring because you have no defence if the tank is bad.

there are already healing enemies, you have to interrupt them and poison them.

Healers just mean that one person is playing whack a mole, my support engi and ele are a great boon to the party, that’s enough.

People need to protect eachother already, not just the healer needs protecting. It’s way more dynamic.

needing to search for healers/tanks for groups outweighs any positive aspect of the trinity.

We can already be tanky and supporty, forcing people into TANK and HEAL is way worse than the current system. Anet have not exhausted the potential of the current system for encounter design, not by a long shot.

What you speak of is homogenized and indistinct. I doubt you even played GW1, so i won’t bother. By the way, the enemies that heal, they heal themselves. Your elementalist and engineer only throw out boons and heals on big cooldowns in a homogeneous, blanket fashion. There’s no depth in that and it certainly doesn’t create the full paradigm set that i have in mind. I really don’t think you even understand what i’m saying, much less have any real evidence to call what i have said incorrect. All this post sounds like is " I don’t like having to wait for a healer."

It’s not dynamic, it’s homogenized, indistinct, messy, and shallow. You may be able to focus on what you believe to be those roles, but they don’t stand out in a party where everyone is just spamming cooldowns and throwing out all kinds of buffs and healing. There’s very little depth in it compared to GW1 combat.

Wardrobe Variety

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Calae.1738

Are there plans to increase the variety of armors in Guild Wars 2?

Light Armor users are lacking leggings that don’t look like dresses.
Medium armor users are lacking chest pieces that don’t look like trench coats.
Heavy armor users are lacking armor that shows skin.

Perhaps its the intention of development to make armor types have certain themes in order for players to easily recognize. I think we should get rid of all armor types (Heavy, Medium, Light) and let players choose which pieces to wear from the entire selection. It would provide a lot more variety for the playerbase. We’ll have crazy combinations of styles that could inspire the artists to create more.

Are you tired of seeing the teleporting bots at resource nodes and having no way to report them because they teleport out of range to quick? Well here is a neat little trick to speed up the reporting of them. It is real simple and can be done with 2 button presses. First hit whatever button you have set to target nearest ally. Once you have them targeted all you have to do is hit “P” and invite them to your party. Once the invite is sent you can report them at your leisure even if they do not accept the invite.

It really is a terrible system. Even those of us that roleplay have almost no use for the current implementation of ‘town clothes’. They are annoying and a complete waste of possibilities. Instead, we should have real outfit/costume slots like LotRO or EQ2. Give us tons of cosmetic options to buy from the cash shop as well as letting us choose whatever armor we want to place in there as well. As it stands, I see no reason to ever use town clothes and just carry some extra clothing in my bank for RP purposes. During any sort of PVE content, I just try to ignore how ridiculous I look most of the time.

I get that some folks are happy, thrilled even, to do stuff like play jingle bells in LA. That’s cool, but I find myself getting bored. WvW is a mess and everything we’ve been told says Feb is the earliest we MIGHT see some changes. sPvP is kinda pointless and its hard to keep a team together. I was farming for a legendary to pass the time but now that drop rates are nerfed to almost zero, well…you get the point. I don’t have gobs of real dollars to invest in buying gems/gold and frankly, that takes away from the sense of earning things through play. Fractals is amusing but running it more than one or two times a day is kinda boring too.

I hope Arenanet realizes that giving us periodic holidays and temporary events is like putting bandaids on the shotgun wound that is content. Please open up some actual level 80 zones besides Cursed Shore and whatever that lolKarka island is. If balancing and fixing pvp and wvw is too hard right now, at least try to placate some of us with somewhere new to explore.

Too much grind for ascended items

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Khristophoros.7194

Khristophoros.7194

I understand that ascended items are meant to take a lot more investment to obtain than exotics, and I am fine with that. However, I find the methods of getting the currently available ascended items too grindy.

I think it’s because the only way to do it is to run fractals. Fractals in itself isn’t bad. The problem is that only doing Fractals is very repetitive. For exotics I can run any of the other dungeons, or I can do other things in the game to obtain the resources needed.

So it’s not that I dislike fractals. I just can’t stand running them over and over. I get bored. I want to get ascended gear but I want to do so by playing a variety of content which is what I love about obtaining gear in this game other than ascended gear currently.

Thanks for reading.
