Empyreal/Dragonite should be gated

Yes, just what this game needs! More time-gated stuff! Let’s take a look at all the time-gated stuff Anet has added over the past few months. Dailies, monthlies, crystal shards, laurels, Mega boss chests, crafting materials, and heaven knows what else. I could probably find a list somewhere where there are about 50 time-gated items.

If Anet adds a single time-gated piece of content, I am making my character leap off the tallest cliff in Tyria, leave him dying on the ground, logging out, and uninstalling the game.

Dual wield autoattack - suggestion

in Suggestions

Metallus.7690

Hi there

As you may know, even though you have equipped 2 melee weapons, your character will only autoattack with the main-hand. That is because the mainhand and the offhand are considered two different weapons with different utilities and also because there is no true “autoattack”; the 1 skill just happens to be without a CD and is usually put on auto-cast, therefore getting labeled as “autoattack”, even though it’s not the same as the “white swing” of WoW or other games.

What I’m going to discuss in this topic is how to introduce the dual wield autoattack motion WITHOUT altering the 1 combo much. Let’s start:

Introduction
If you have played a thief, you know that according to which off-hand you have equipped, your 3 skill changes: if you have 2 daggers, the 3 skill will turn into a combined attack of 2 daggers, if you have 1 sword and 1 pistol, your 3 skill will turn into a combined attack of the two etc. This mechanic so far worked pretty well and it made a lot of sense that your skills change according to which offhand you are using.

Suggesiton
The suggestion is to add this same mechanic to the 1 skill ("autoattack) so that, if you have two swords equipped, you’ll get the visual effect that you are attacking with both swords.

From this suggestion some questions may arise:
1) How would you change the 1 combo attack without affecting the gameplay?
- I had thought of keeping the same damage and effects of our current mainhand attacks but to just add the VISUAL effect that we are attacking with both weapons. This would only be a cosmetic change.
2) Mh okay, this would work with melee weapons like swords, daggers, maces and axes… but what about offhands like focus, torch, warhorn, shield and pistol?
- In that case I’d keep the current mainhand combo unchanged, without adding any special effect. However, when offhand pistol comes to play, you could change the third attack of the main combo to a close-range shot. For example, if you are on mesmer and you are using sword + pistol, your first two attacks will remain unchanged but the third may turn into a close-range pistol shot(that will NOT hit people from distance; it will have the same effect and damage of the current mind-spike).
3) Talking about pistols, what about double pistol?
- This is a bit tricky: thieves and engineers can wield two pistols and the natural suggestion would be to make both pistols shot alternately. However, keeping the current mainhand pistol attack would led to a very slow visual (I mean, you would be shooting with 2 pistols but at the same rate of 1 pistol). In this case, you could make it look like you are shooting with both pistols at the same time (and so you won’t feel the “slow rate” shooting).

There are a few more things I’d like to discuss: getting the visual that you are attacking with both weapons when the damage and combo is unchanged, might led new players to question “wtf, I’m wielding two of these but my damage is the same!!”, in which case the only solution would be to redesign the whole combat, but that’s not viable in anyway.

The best compromise I could come up would be to slightly nerf the offhand skills and slightly buff (we are talking about 5-10%) the mainhand attack WHEN you are wielding TWO “offensive” weapons (2daggers, 2swords, 2axes, 2 pistols): this way you would keep balance but also add the “feeling” that wielding two weapons increases your autoattack damage. Alternatively, you can nerf the mainhand autoattack when only ONE of those weapons is equipped but this would put to disadvantage people who are using combos like sword+focus or mace+shield; in this latter case, to compensate, you could buff some traits affecting those weaponsets in order to keep up the same balance. In other words, you would just be deceiving your customers

This suggestion is mainly COSMETIC, trying to go for the least amount of changes to gameplay and damage in general. You know, when I started playing gw2 the first time, I have to say I was rather disappointed when I discovered that, even though I was wielding two swords, I was attacking only with one. Was trying to figure out what I was doing wrong before I realized how it worked. Once again, the main point of this topic is a cosmetic change. The second part about buffing/nerfing is just optional and open to discussions. I’m open to critics as also open to tweaks you would add to my suggestion

Thanks for your attention

When duel wielding set… I think the first attack should activate both of the weapons instead of one. Two pistol shots? You fire off both Pistols for double damage. Two Daggers? You slash twice for double the damage. Stuff like that! All there needs to do is just extend the timer a little.

Having no trinity sucks. I loved being the healer. In this game, healing is for suckers. The only reason I’m playing GW2 instead of a trinity game is because WoW is ughawfulterribadkillmenow and Rift is boring as hell with the gear progression being based on how many hours you can go into a PvP arena and lose ’till you get enough points for the gear you want..

In the Manifesto for GW2, ANet spoke of how they would keep grinding to a minimum, give us, not the holy trinity, but a trinity of damage, control, and support, and many other things.

Well it has been just over one year now and we’re seeing more grind added to the game constantly, more and more temporary events with no way to replay (unlike the small stuff in GW1 we had), and nerfs to areas, such as karma gain, that do nothing but punish players. I just finished my September monthly, after having been reset from 3/4 to 1/4 like most everyone. What did I get, same as all probably….+500 luck, 20 Mystic Coins, 10 Laurels…no problem, but Karma, from 10x 4-5k pots to only 1x 6k pot! Seriously ArenaNet? SERIOUSLY!?!? Oh what’s that, it was too trivial? Not what the game was about? Again…seriously?

Karma was trivial unless you wanted to get Temple armor, Cultural weapons, Obi Shards, or play the Orrian Box roulette. Oh that’s right, a lot of players want these for their stats or their skins, or just a chance at some lodestones, or for their legendary weapon.

Just like the reset on monthlies “we’re sorry but we can’t fix it”…seems to be the going theme for GW2 lately. We can’t fix it so we’ll break something else for complaints to pour in about. What’s next, guild commendations being nerfed? Oh how about doubling the exp required to reach 80? Would go great with the pointless limits on new gear where it will take an average player around to make 1 ascended weapon. Wow.

Anyway, everything this game was promised to be has continuously been steered away from, and everything promised NOT to be in the game is being added constantly. That’s how its feeling. And sadly, if the coming patches continue to follow the pattern I will find myself playing less and less of GW2. I’m almost sad to admit I spent the money on the CE and had anticipated the launch of this game since EoTN and GW2 where announced.

So with that, please take a look at how the playerbase will be affected by changes before implementing them. Not all change is good after all.

Sorry to anyone this offends, but it is something that I wanted to say.

Absolutely agree with OP on this one. While I do appreciate the efforts they are putting in, it’s very stressful for people with a normal working life to try to completely all those achievement within the limited time frame.

Personally I would rather see ANet filling in the blanks of the map instead of all this temporary content getting shoved down our throats every two weeks. Living Story is nice and all, but it doesn’t make me feel like I’m in a living breathing world. It more feels that I have to race through everything because in two weeks it will be replaced by something else. There is no consistency and we’re just rushing from one set of achievements to the next.

What I wouldn’t give to finally go through that door in Ebonhawke and explore the Crystal Desert. Or check out that fort with extremely powerful bandits in Brisban Wildlands. Or visit the Ring of Fire, just to knock on the Door of Komalie.

There are just so many closed off sections that feel like they were meant to be visited.

I agree but for another reason.
They go so fast that they can’t quality control their updates correctly. Every single time there’s something that’s screwed up. And since 2-4 weeks later it’s gonna be gone, they don’t even take the time to fix their shlt.

The problem isn’t the pace of new content…it’s that this isn’t content. They are events. Nothing more.

Content is stuff that stays in the game. We need more actual content instead of all these little temporary events. Like you guys, I don’t have the time or desire to rush to get all these achievements, so I’ve stopped playing altogether. I’ll come back to actually play again when there are new things for me to actually do.

I agree with this 100%. I work about 48+ hours per week and i have just enough time to finish 1/2 Achievement categories. I have like no time to try anything else since the content will be gone FOREVER since it’s never permanent. I really liked this game but the past year the decisions have been god awful and different then what i expected. I may give the game another month but if i feel like im falling behind i simply just will stop playing.

I was able to keep up and i loved it but now i feel like im the turtle in a rabbit race

I’m probably in the minority, but I simply despise new content coming every two weeks. I didn’t even like when they were monthly changes, but at least I could kind of keep up. But, this every other week stuff is garbage.

I barely have time to get even some of the achievements, and certainly no time at all to spend the trophies I collected. And then, poof, they’re gone, along with any possible method of using them. And I have 3 more slots filled with what is probably garbage (but I can never know whether that’s true or not, can I?).

SLOW DOWN! Or at least slow down the endings. Giving us only 2 weeks to complete two whole achievement categories is absurd. It’s simply not fun any more.

Don’t get me wrong: The content is great. You guys are doing a marvelous job at content-creation. But, there’s simply no way to enjoy going through it all. I like to savor my games. I want to play some things more than once, to see what I missed. But, when there’s only 2 weeks to get it done and it takes the whole 2 weeks, there’s no room for savoring the game. Heck, some day I even want to try out PvP. But, at the pace new content comes out, there’s no chance.

add a "class" filter

when search armor, one thing i never got is why they never added a class filter in the BLTP, this filter would separate light, leather and heavy armor.

to illustrate, you are a mage profession and you want some armor.
currently you go buy->armor->coat, this is quite messy and takes quite some time to find what you’re looking for.
the new filter is be buy->armor->coat->light, this filters things allot better and saves so much time.

The flaw of Ascended Weapon Boxes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bright.9160

Bright.9160

First of all, I checked the first 3 pages, and didn’t find anything, if a topic about this is already up, please redirect me.

To the point: there is a huge flaw in the design of the Ascended Weapon boxes. I realize that Anet figured out from Fractals that having random weapons drop for you is undesirable and people didn’t like it.

Now they implemented a system where you can get an Ascended weapon box with fixed stats that make you pick your weapon. For example, you can get a Occam’s Weapon Box, which let’s you pick any Ascended weapon with Rabbid (or Carrion? I dunno, doesn’t matter) stats.

There lies a big flaw in this design though, which honestly is even bigger than having a random weapon drop of which you can pick the stats: if you get the wrong stats, the weapon is essentially more useless than any other weapon.

If I got a Cleric’s Ascended Box, I would literally never open it, because I have absolutely no use for a Cleric’s weapon. A blue lvl80 Berserker weapon is literally more useful to me than any Cleric’s Ascended weapon. The only reason I would use it is if they opened lvl50+ Fractals and I would need the AR, other than that, I wouldn’t even bother.

Which is why, to me at least, having random weapons of which you can pick the stats is a better design than a random stat of which you can use the weapon. Because, at least an undesirable weapon can still fill some function on some character, whereas an undesirable stat wouldn’t even be considered by me. An exotic of more desirable stats will ALWAYS be more useful than an ascended weapon with other stats.

I’m not asking for random weapons though, since that design also doesn’t work, but to me it would be better if they either implemented both systems, where you can get either of them, a random weapon with choosable stats, or a random stat with choosable weapons. Or have a token-like system where you can exchange some ascended token for a box of your choosing.

No matter what he says people will complain. He was right, people got exotics way to quickly and even though people want to get max gear quickly, In MMO’s getting them that quick will do more damage to the game then ascended gear ever will.

So contrary to what they initially claimed (that Ascended was planned all along), Colin specifically states in that interview that Exotic WAS supposed to be final tier and Ascended was added because they underestimated how quickly people would get Exotic.

Ignoring the fact that people like being able to get max stat gear quickly so they then only have to worry about aesthetics, here we have proven that ArenaNet did outright LIE back in November, and that Ascended WASN’T planned prior to release.
