Proposal changes for Ranger classes.

I took notice and actually got this idea from the Dev’s posts. Since Sic’ Em will be/might be able to reveal stealth which benefits the Ranger/ party, would it also be possible to keep shouts on this path as well. So far our shouts benefit our pets except for Protect Me. I think shout should benefit both pet and Ranger.

1.Guard: protection on pet + stealth
2.Protect Me: Redirect all incoming damage to pet.
3. Signet of Stone

Should be change to

1.Guard: Stealth on pet. Fury on ranger. (or swiftness)
2.Protect Me: Redirect all incoming damage to pet (5 seconds). 5 second protection on pet.
3. Signet of Stone: Passive 10% damage reduction. Active: Grant 2 second of protection. Pet takes no damage for 6 seconds.

Its nice watching these kind of videos, give new players in sight on what Rangers can do. But I noticed your enemies waste their dodge or don’t even use their dodge at all when you use maul, and maul pretty much has one of the or the highest burst in GS, bear animation should let a player be able to dodge that.

Gimmick builds like these are good for hot joint though.

These are some good changes, and lovely effort for the Devs and Balance Team to posts these potential changes to the community before the release and asking the players for opinions.

So here is mine. As mentioned I kind of have my hopes up for trait changes, specially for classes that I’ve played (Guardian, Thief, Ranger).

More so on Rangers. I know a lot of Rangers have been asking for Marksmanship to be changed or for some traits to be put together.

Changes I would like to see:

Marksmanship

1. Opening Strike – 5 vuln/5 sec. when entering combat. Should be change to: First strike applies 5 vuln/5 secs, can occur every 15 seconds.
2. Alpha Strike – Pets have Opening Strike. Should be change to: Pets inflict cripple for 5 seconds, cooldown 20 seconds.
3. Predators Instinct

Skirmishing

1. Carnivorous Appetite i think should be switched with Mighty Swap. Instead of Pet swap, it could be weapon swap.
2. Moment of Clarity would be nice if this also give confusion on interrupt without perplexity.

Wilderness Survival

1. Expertise Training no idea why this is around. Would be nice if it gives more than 350 condition damage though to see my return on investment.

Beastmastery

1. Master’s Bond …. =/
2. Compassion Training why… I dont get why give them healing power for?

We’re not getting any buff’s.. accept it…

we’re supposed to take it up the kitten while we kite around 4-6 thirsty Phantasm Messmers, Perplexity Engis’, D/P Thieves and BM Rangers…. and hopefully, waste enough time to where your group (Phantasm Messmers, Perplexity Engis’, D/P Thieves and BM Ranger) can burn them down.

Take it like a man…. cuz apparently that’s what Anet intended for us!!

PS [EDIT]: The new meta change has increased my kiting ability 10+. I can target ambient’s like a champ!

Charr stereotype

Like the title says, 3/4 times in game I see a Charr as a warrior. If not a warrior, most of the Charrs that I see are heavy armor types. Not sure if lore issues, physique, or aesthetics are the issues.

I will list some of the things why I think this is. Feel free to add some points in there and opinions as well if you think of other things that I miss. Enjoy.

1. Armor issues
– clipping, tail issues, weapon on armor, lack of options

Reasons why I didn’t choose Charr is because:

1. Horrible and I mean Horrible armor they have. The only reasonable set that all Charr players get is Tier 3 heavy. Besides that, all armor on Charr is just horrible looking for to me specially with a helm? LOL!

2. Poor animation. They don’t stand well, run well, and they’re supposed to be ruthless looking race.

3. Overall look. Like I said, they’re supposed to be ruthless and are conquerors. Everything that they have: armor, walk, run, animation doesn’t just match to me as a Charr.

I made another alternative to your build. If you want to roll beastmaster, I find birds more effective in delivering better damage than any pets in game. If you look closely at raven, this pet attacks twice meaning better chances of pulling a crit than any other pets, and raven’s f2 ability also attacks twice plus the bonus blind is nice. Also if you look into attack range of raven (300) compare to jaguar(130), my pet would be striking first.

Changes:
Shout build for survivability of course, but not just that. As you can see your damage is better as my alternative is only at 2986, but with shout (natures voice XII) you gain swiftness (5%) and regeneration (5%) to your self and your pet plus protection from Guard(5%) with a total of 15% increase damage to your pet and 10% increase damage to your self but with 2 second downtime from these boons. (look at recharge).

Also with sword chain skill 1 you can give your pet another increase on damage with might (5%)

Now for condition removal I have evasive purity trait and I decided to put generosity sigil for another chance to remove conditions.

Two stun breakers and vigor gain (5% dmg increase) and 6 second of deflected damage from Protect Me.

And Hyena cause I like getting 2 of them for 40 seconds up time, for damage and knockdown on top of that. Just preference this could be change.

Ascended gear stats advantage over exotics is 5%. Thats 70% if your enemy have all ascended gears. My only problem in ascended gear are the materials on getting them. If we could actually get another way of getting those, that would be nice later on. But I think this progress is necessary in any MMO and I hope ANET see that a lot of people aren’t into grinding these and help us out a little bit.

Ive been playing the game for quite awhile now and tried every classes in game. I can say that in guild wars 2, you get rewarded more if you do damage through melee. I feel that when you go in range mode in GW2 you are penalize for it, though you get the advantage of doing damage first in range, it lacks mobility in my opinion. Also the damage isn’t that great compare to melee cause of game mechanics, most range builds are build for damage and unfortunately we don’t have enough option to back our self up if we don’t kill the target in range. So the other option is to have a melee set with you all the time, but if you are built for power there are minimal chance you will survive once they get close to you.

Another example of range being bad in game is through dungeons, Catacombs everyone? obstructed message everywhere when you try to DPS burrows on part 1 and 3. I find this on Ranger and Thief.

Its frustrating seeing how power range build in this game is lacks mobility. That’s the main issue for me when it comes to range, the mobility to save your kitten when they get close to you. A lot of professions have a lot of option to get closer to you, why don’t range set up get a few more ways to put distance that are not in a 30+ CD (utility skills)

I agre with the OP. I don’t get why the molten alliance is even affiliated with scarlet and out of nowhere when we do the invasion they would pop out in the zone, same with the steam creatures. there is just no story behind it at all to connect them together.

Hello everyone and to my fellow guilds leaders. I just want to be heard by ANet and Im sure most of you have thought of this, as a guild leader, I want to be able to be able to look and keep track of my members progress in guild and doing that is nearly impossible with little options we have.

What I’m proposing is to have more options on the roster tab of the guild, examples would be to add:

1. Be able to look at influence earned by each guild members for the guild.
2. Last log in.
3. Dungeons tab. How many has the member done (since joining the guild)
4. Events tab. How many has the member done (since joining the guild)
5. Members recruited (since joining the guild)

Why: because as a guild leader I want to reward my members for joining my guild. I want to have a figure of how much they contributed in my guild, like Achievements Points, I would like to reward them by hitting a certain mile stone.

I agree with this message. I was so excited to see fellblade in guild wars 2 but it was a very disappointing greatsword. The effect is nothing compared to the original, and isnt the animation supposed to be improving? instead we got this old time fellblade that is worse than the original. Fix this ANet

I agree with the original poster, it’s been almost one year and we havent really seen any progression from the original story about the dragons. Isn’t Guild Wars 2 about the awakening of the dragons? and its races joining forces together to stop its corruption? what happened after we killed zhaitan and his minions? what’s the story about that? did they just disappear out of nowhere and the Pact decided “ok lets wrap this up guys lets go home and chill, perhaps celebrate and kitten. lets sit tight and panic when the next dragons comes.” LOL! Honestly what happened to the story? After we killed zhaitan all I remember that MAKE SENSE to me and I could narrate on top of my head is that the races of Tyria found a way to join forces together and stop a dragon.

After that though, I cannot grasp the story anymore. To me it feels like these living story events are just a way for us players to just forget about the dragons, Anet is pretty much throwing these bi weekly patch to just forget about the story and to just celebrate, do puzzles, do this to get this! I do love these updates, but if you ask a player to tell the story of Guild Wars 2? Im not sure how many people could actually summarize what the story of Guild Wars 2 so far and compare to Guild Wars 1 lore? gawd… the difference is like night and day.

I am still hoping that one of the original Guild Wars 1 devs step up and actually give us a real story to do or updates on the up coming patch. I pray that happen really.

Yeah, talking about god forms, I saw Abaddon’s form change to be somewhat of a reflection of his personality. I mean the first description we have of him comes from a GW1 guide that I know Konig and a few others have posted a few times that talks about him holding a somewhat fair and possibly even handsome appearance. That being said, a lot of murals and images of him (some merely concept art) show him in a more demonic, mutated form. Now honestly, we do not know what exactly he looks like during the final fight against the gods, but I would guess his form may have changed, though not because of where he got his powers from, but instead what his personality is reflecting. It makes me think back to Lord of the Rings and Melkor/Morgoth and Sauron. These two originally had beautiful and fair forms, but eventually they grew so cruel and evil that they could no longer hold their forms in that state, and instead they reflected the personality within.

Your theory make sense since most of the Gods now similarly resemble a bit like humans, whereas Abaddon who seem corrupted got his image alter to more like Arachnia.

I play to explore the game and look for actual clues on the old guild wars 1 in game. I know that the devs have hidden artifacts, maps, and creations by other races (Seers, Mursaats) through out the game. I read this from an interview. I play for the lore really.

I play for aesthetics of my character.
I play to see other people’s hard work pay off through their gear.
I play hoping that one day an update about the actual lore of guild wars comes.

What these guys are saying. Really depends on your playstyle. If youre going full on damage you might need a pet that can tank for you. I use hybrid in game cause I find it that the longer I can stay the better. As for pets it depends on how you play too, for me I use Raven for blind to keep them alive for the duration of blind and dish out that damage and survive. Or if Im planning on pulling tons of mobs, I use River Drake for its electric move that bounces off of target. Very strong and can kill multiple mobs if it can bounce. I use shortbow with my raven. Sword and axe with my drake. Axe 4 skill then 5 plus f2 on drake, should be enough to kill a huge mob. Unless veteran and champs.

For my build i use shout with heal. 0-15-15-30-10

Here’s my opinion:

- Shortbow needed to be differentiated from the Longbow between power rangers. Right now, both weapon vie for the same spot which shouldn’t have been the case. Shortbow needs to see an improvement on conditions in terms of length and reliability. It’d be cool if SB 5 had that new condition on a short duration to give more advantage to kiting, but that could go either way.

- Above all else, Longbow needed a kitten damage buff on it’s auto-attack more than just buffing the cast time. Something that ArenaNet has shied away from time and time again. If I still am having doubts as a power specced ranger between shortbow AA and LB AA, something is wrong. The problem with LB wasn’t necessarily in the skill mechanics themselves, but with the absurb amount you had to spec into MM to make it viable. My proposed changed would include a minimum range decrease on the AA, and very slight damage buff on AA, and a reduction of the barrage precast time.

- And for the love of melandru, consolidate those kitten MM bow traits so that bringing a bow doesn’t mean a whole traitline for one weapon.

- I definitely agree on this, although when I saw SB skills I immediately thought that it caters to condition ranger or rampager build. But it is true that SB needs an improvement on condition, I believe you are referring to the new condition called torment. Honestly, I do not get why ANet didn’t give this to Rangers. We are into kiting and what best weapon to punish your enemy with a skill that prevents them from moving. I think if they decided to rework SB skill number 4 cripple and bleed should get torment or skill 3 on SB.

- LOL!! ^ and this, those marksmanship trait line for Rangers really need a rework. Combination of traits plus new ones should be considered. I don’t know who plays Ranger in ANet or who develops them but this seriously need some attention.

Hunter's Shot fails

Welcome to the world of a C&D thief. At least the Ranger has range stealth.

#1: Where is the logic in stealth? Let’s not talk logic. It’s a game after all.
#2: Pets don’t reveal, attacks landing after stealth do. Stop auto attacking.
#3: Send your pet in a different direction. Tactics. If it’s dead, put more into BM.
#4: Guards even continuously face you in stealth, disallowing a Thief (Yep.) backstab.
#5: Again, same issue on C&D. Aegis, block, miss, invulnerability, etc, etc. Deal with it.

The Ranger addition is marvelous, it makes it a lot more fun. It’s not a god button tho. Learn to use it to its maximum effectiveness. Condition damage ticks do not affect stealth at all.

What he said, once you’re in stealth it would be your own fault if you got revealed. Even for a condition build thief spamming Deathblossom and going stealth after WOULD NOT reveal you even with damage ticking. Even if your pet is attacking your target and you stealth it will NOT reveal you. Honestly, you really should learn how to play. A stealth mechanic range? what else do you want. Learn how to maximize the opportunity.

So as always, there are these people who can’t be thankful enough for the changes that have been made for Ranger class. This has already been discuss before the patch was even release, the main reason for longbow changes everyone, is that so you have a viable execution and escape.

If you have no clue on how to use hunter’s shot it is basically (in my opinion) a preparation for a Ranger to set up his burst while in that stealth mode (vulnerable). Also keep in mind, that your pet has a big role in this burst for damage. Now how do you make it so that your pet is in synch with you? I played around a bit with this with a Raven pet, because whenever bird pets attack, they attack twice in one go. While in stealth mode, I would immediately tell my pet to yield, and while in that stealth mode I ready my GS for an attack and command my pet to attack at the same time or you can use sword/warhorn for this. Also if most of you don’t know, while your pet is on stand by, this is the best chance to execute F2 because your pet would execute their skill right away WITHOUT any delay.

Basically when Im in stealth is when I usually do my burst damage. I use double stealth (me and my pet Jaguar in pvp or raven pet for burst)

You can also use this for defense of course, stealth is basically another tool for us to be alive for another 3 second while in battle. Ranger is a DPS and now can burst with the right build.

I guess for those who are crying about these changes it is just a learn to play mechanic and honestly, no one is forcing you to play longbow, if you are moved by this patch to play longbow, then don’t play ranger if you have no other viable build pre patch.

Imagine what hunter’s shot does for trap rangers now. They’ll never see me or my traps coming. >:D

I think with remorseless synergy with longbow, its more of a power build than condition build trap ranger. lol. With these changes it would make ranger more mobile and a bit safe for power plays.

Entangle: Updated the damage and bleeding skill facts to properly display their actual effects.

Maul: This skill now applies vulnerability instead of bleeding.
Counterattack—Crippling Throw: This skill can now be used while moving. Increased the cripple duration to 5 seconds.
Whirling Defense: This skill now grants 4 seconds of retaliation for the duration of the skill.
Call of the Wild: This skill is now a blast finisher.
Remorseless: This trait now reapplies Opening Strike when the ranger gains stealth or kills an enemy.

I think that Feline: Lynx is terrestial for a reason. For sure later on in the future Terrestial Feline types of pets will have more variety into it like the Lions, Tiger/White Tiger. Overall good review, people forget how important the role of their pets, and they’re really situational.

Are Ranges really in THAT BAD a place?

Those who say rangers are bad are probably just bad period. How can you be bad on a class that all it does is shoot arrows. I for one like my ranger and is my first main, for those who say rangers are bad in dungeons, those are probably the type of rangers that don’t know how to manage their pet and doesn’t know how to switch to another weapon than bows. I find melee weapons to be best in dungeons so try that out. I’ve tried out all of the class, and I really believe we’re not as bad as people think. Just know how to play your class properly and always keep in mind your pet is another part of you. Never let them die.

ANet please let me get another chance on getting these bad boys. In my guild, no one, and I mean no one ever knew about this type of armor and it suck cause you can only get them through personal story where you have to choose and before you can’t even preview what they look like. Please.

Venoms adjustment

venoms should get moved away as utility skilsl and should get improved for a thief as class specific gameeplay mechanism beign used via F2

Press once F2 and a little skill bar windo should pop up, where you have to quickly decide, which venom you want to use from all of your learned possible venoms.
Once you click on one venom, the venom will be used and the venom window will automatically disappear again and F2 begins its recharge time.

That way would thiefs get space for 4 more useful new useful new utility skilsl and 1 alot better mroe useful new elite skill.
Thiefs should receive as new skill type “Stigmas” to replace venoms that got moved to the functionality of pressing F2 to use venoms then.
Venoms are a mandatory basic mechanic of all kinds of thiefs and that should be also considered for thiefs in GW2!

I agree on this. Venoms as a thief mechanic would be better for thieves. This has been suggested before as well.
