Next gw2 Expansion Class?

Next race will likely be Tengu, if they do decide on a new class also it will likely be one that would be suitable for the new race. Taking that into account my bet would be on assassin or some kind of shaman/seer as both suit the race well.

Personally I want to play an Avicara Brave.

No Glory in Snowball Mayhem

in Wintersday

Aedelric.1287

I see no reason as to why glory and presents need to be mutually exclusive. You mention in it’s defence that presents are tangible rewards PopeUrban, yes it is a more physical, immediate reward but in no way is it a substantial and rewarding replacement for glory.

One must not forget for an activity to feel rewarding it must grant a reward appropriate to the effort used. Unfortunately this is not the case with the pvp events, the presents are few and the time spent could easily net much more presents by other means. Granting full glory for these fights, would in no way imbalance the game as pvp deserves a pvp reward. Nor would traditional pvp become defunct as these events are only temporary over a few weeks a year. Nor would the reward be excessive, essentially normal glory with a few presents would only make it all feel more rewarding and special.

Why would anyone not want glory?

No Glory in Snowball Mayhem

Aedelric.1287

This is the exactly why I do not participate in the festive PvP events beyond earning the achievements.

They are fun to try out for a few minutes and earning a few presents are nice, but at the end of the day it is not worth the effort as presents can be obtained far more easily by other means. Obtaining glory should be standard for PvP festive events and the presents and gift bag should be the additional incentive, not the only incentive. It would promote the event more and convince people to play beyond obtaining achievements and trying it for the novelty.

At the moment I have no reason to go back and play it ever again, which is a shame. I would like to know why Arena Net actively decided against earning glory, seems like a strange move to me.

Massively: Where Guild Wars 2 Goes Wrong

Absolutely rubbish, it must be a slow news days for Massively, they obviously want to stir things up so they get more views. None of the points raised are actually valid. That is not to say Guild Warts 2 does not have things it could improve on, just nothing mentioned in that article.

My problem is that it is an opinion piece with absolutely no objectivity, it is actually quite embarrassing that Massively thought it a good piece to add to their site. It does damage Massively’s journalistic integrity a fair bit, for a moment I thought I was at IGN.

I am a solo player, I am not really keen on being forced into a random group to complete a dungeon so I can enjoy the festive events.

Arena Net said solo is a valid play style, yet at every turn they provide barriers for most end game or important content. The last Story mission, dungeons, Ascent to Madness and now the numerous versions Tixx’s Infinirarium.

I hope it is something they plan on addressing with future updates, feeling a little neglected here.

Suppose to be solo friendly

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aedelric.1287

Aedelric.1287

The game is meant to be solo friendly and the last mission of the personal quest is not. The entire storyline from Guild Wars I could be soloed, even dungeons.

It is a bad oversight on Arena Net’s part and does needs addressed, especially since it is a feature they marketed. I am not saying make it easier for groups, but all they need to do is when a single player joins the instance make it so they have AI followers take the role of other party members. It would be just like in the original Guild Wars, Arena Net have provn before they are not that bad with follower AI, when they try.

The party members could even be made up of unique personal story characters, which would give even more meaning to all those choices we had.

Aedelric.1287

This topic stinks of ex-WoW player nonsense. “I hated my old MMO and I am scared this will become like it”

Guild Wars is it’s own gem and probably the best value for money of any game out today. Yes I would recommend it as it is amazing fun and Arena Net have pushed out new free content almost every month since release, Mad King, Lost Shores, Wintersday next and a new unknown event for Janurary.

The nonsense about Ascended is just that, nonsense. If it was released when the game went live not a single person would even comment on it, it would have been accepted as the norm. The people that do complain are just that typical MMO minority that complains about nearly everything, if they did not have Ascended to focus on, then it would be something else.

If anyone finds Guild Wars 2 not worth recomending then I doubt they would recommend any MMO at all, none come close to the fun GW2 offers or the tremendous value for money it has.

Also Chamone “All of us, myself included,” you do not speak for everyone, just yourself, you presumptuous…

This will be the first monthly since release I will not be able to complete.

I know they wanted to promote the Fractals and making a dungeon requirement directs players to that content. I am not pleased about the requirement, but so long as they do not make a regular dungeon requirement I will not get overly upset.

I would much rather see dynamic events and open world bosses as requirements, so we see more players work at these large scale events.

I do not dislike people getting nice things, but it is hardly fair walking away with trash when others hit the jackpot. I hope the next event has more balance in the reward system, I am not saying nerf it, but at least make sure every player comes away with something worth while. After all, we all spent equal effort and time with the final event.

I think I might get a mini to commemorate the first time I attacked one. I charged in head first as usual then found myself knocked down, then my character stood still unable to move/attack/dodge as I watched on in horror as my health went down shockingly fast, it was a matter of learning the hard way.

The only major problem I have with Karka is the health refill after loosing the carapace, understandable that they can keep fighting after, but in my eyes the healing is a design flaw.

It would be better if they had double the health and lost the carapace after the halfway point, or at a push should have had a second blue health bar above the first as an armour indicator.

No one likes seeing monsters health magically shoot up, it is disheartening. My suggestions are only visual, as it would take the same amount of effort and time, but psychologically it would feel like you are making more progress in the fight.

NPC voice cut off due to camera location

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Aedelric.1287

Aedelric.1287

The problem seems to by that the game assumes my camera position is where my characters ears are, so if I swing my camera around it cuts off character audio suddenly. Unfortunately this means I have to zoom in stand close and not move my camera as all in order to receive clear audio.

As you can assume this is not possible in combat when multiple characters are talking as you have to move your character and defend yourself. The audio softening and getting cut off makes it nearly impossible to understand what npc’s are talking about

My system has not changed, other games audio happen to be fine and I never used to have this problem with Guild Wars 2, so I assume the audio engine has changed recently in the game.

I do not expect and instant fix, but some suggested work around would be nice if anyone has any.

I rarely WvW because I like to play with players to achieve an objective and have a little bit of story and loot for my character. Not to repeatedly fight players over objectives that are lost by the next time you log on with little reward to show for it, it has no sense of accomplishment to for.

Never been a big PvP fan, but WvW is the best form of casual PvP I have played, add more activities (Not just killing a player) and a greater sense of accomplishment and I would probably play it more often.

personally I’d rather have had another level 80 zone not like Orr to explore and then run around with the time they spent faffing around on the individual yawn fest of the personal story.

apart from the nonsense of the gambling forge the PS is the worst part of he game

Aedelric.1287

Spoiler -

I will try not to be too harsh, but it is hard to do when he literally does everything I am about to type.

He is a horrid glory thief, constantly takes credit for the players hard work. Has a position of authority that he did not earn and at every corner he shows he is not capable to lead.

Firstly Claw Island onwards is Trahearne’s personal story, not the player character, which instantly irks anyone who is paying attention to what is going on around them. Seriously, this is meant to be my (your) story.

I honestly thought I was back at school when he asked me to quiz the pack people what they thought of him, what is he fourteen? He steals credit from the priory in regards to the cleansing ritual as stated above. He comes right out of left field and acts like he is the player characters BFF, without even earning it like Forgal and the rest do, he even completely forgets you met before if you have the Sylvari origin. He rarely makes any decisions as the leader constantly relying on the player character to make almost all of them.

He states multiple times how hopeless the situation is and that members of the pact are throwing their lives away, while they are right in front of him, seriously bad leadership. His speeches are delivered quite flatly, not entirely the voice actors fault, it is correct for a Sylvari to be emotionally impared as most seem to be, but the speeches all lack that `Commander Shepard´ special something. As for his use in combat, he is pathetic but that would be nitpicking.

I must say it really was a feat of writing, but Arena Net did manage to create a character more disliked than the glory thief Kormir, who stole Godhood from us. That is not a good thing by the way!

It boggles my mind that anyone can find any endearing qualities in the character.

Aedelric.1287

Arena Net did state in one of their PR videos that solo play was a valid form of play style that they are happy to support. Forcing players to group for the final piece of the personal story is not reinforcing their statement.

I agree that a Dragon should be hard but their is no reason a solo player should suffer. Arena Net demonstrated they are quite capable at Ai for NPC characters with Guild Wars I, all they would have to do is have the player character join with various personal story specific NPC’s for the final mission.

I have not even made the attempt to do any dungeons, not even the Mad King, I enjoy jumping into dynamic events and helping people, but I detest forced groups for missions, especially when it is meant to be personal story based content. So to this day my personal story is stuck one mission for the end.

The Personal Story is meant to be the single player content, I think we are right to want this oversight fixed.

Unfortunately from Arena Net’s track record we are likely going to work very hard to kill a God in the future and he will ascend and take it’s place, or something equally disheartening. I really can not stand Glory thieves and `Saladhead´ as some people call him, fits the bill. He and his personal story (It sure is not ours) is such a badly thought out arc, definitely not Arena Nets greatest achievement.

So many topics cover the fans displeasure over him and even the Zaitan story arc from Claw Island onwards. I wonder if Arena Net had a second chance they would do it differently, perhaps they would pull a Bioware and claim `Artistic Integrity´.

Regardless, the rest of the game is an absolute joy and such a bad egg does not ruin the experience, though a few tweaks to the story to make it stink less would be nice.

I would not say bad, careless yes and definitely neglectful of the perspective of the player character. They story for the most part was well written and captivating, just certain aspects were not created with the mindset of `How will the player view this?´.

The worst culprit is when they have written an arc expecting the players to react in a specific way without realising they have not laid out the prerequisites to generate the desired reaction. An example is being BFF’s with Trahearne upon meeting without him even earning it. It is quite odd they do this, especially when they occasionally achieved it so well in other parts of the story , for example with Forgal.

But your embellishment is no worse than what Arena Net did for the sake of PR. One can say that they did in fact deliver on all the things they said. But only when taking the most minimalistic and narrow point of view. Which obviously will not satisfy the majority.

I essentially agree with you, they talked big but what they delivered was a lot less. Still I am optimistic that given time Arena Net will deliver in more substantial ways, if not with improvements in the present personal story then most likely with any following.

in Personal Story

Aedelric.1287

I agree with the comment that it should have been Destiny’s Edge, it was actually what most people, including myself were expecting. With so much hype created for the group due to the numerous trailers focusing on them specifically and even a book giving detailed background on their exploits, it was a bit of a shock when they only made a cameo appearance in the personal story. It really boggles the mind as to why the Arena Net writers decided on an anxious, meek Sylvari who is so lethargic he makes the player do all the work instead. What was wrong with Logan or Rytlock? People like those characters not only because they positive traits one can admire, they actually decide and do things.

Regardless, Trahearne was most definitely a bad decision on behalf of the writers, no amount of additional background or tweaks could ever save the character. Unless he becomes a villain in a later expansion, I think it the only way forward for him, otherwise it is best he be swept under the carpet, so we can ignore he ever existed.

I would still love to hear from a writer on the reasons behind the making the Sylvari the central focus of the personal story and why they wrote him as an unlikeable glory thief. It was either intentional and there is some reason for it as yet unseen or it was unintentional, which can only really be attributed to careless writing.
