My issue with environments/geography

WoW maps made me suffer hours of horrible monotony. Please don’t make GW2 maps be anything like that.

What they could have done, was made each POI or Vista an instanced zone so that you could learn more about that area. Sadly, that’d have been a looooooot of dev time to do, given the number of POIs and Vistas there are.

Yup. Just spent another 15 minutes. I tried to take a camp but 1 of the enemies was invulnerable/bugged. Still haven’t seen anyone.

Check their buff bar. If they have something called righteous indignation, it means they’re immune to damage and can wallop players insanely hard until it wears off after 3-5 minutes.

"plain" unlimited gathering tools questions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aidan Savage.2078

Anet really does need to let us skin our tools. I’ve completely outfitted 9 characters with perm tools and now I get a bit sad when I see new ones released because I would buy them if I could reskin my existing tools and yes, I realize that whether I can reskin them or not, I’ll end up with extra tools so an even better solution would be to sell the tool skins apart from the actual tools. Maybe this is a first step?

You wouldnt get the functionality.

What you need to remember is that the zone maps are condensed in scale compared to what it would be in “reality.” If you expand the maps to a realistic size, going from say, DR to LA would take days or weeks to get there, not 20 minutes or so.

I wasn’t suggesting they make the environments “to scale”, just that there be more variety of environments (like a sandy desert or a dense forest).

The condensed nature of the zones make it harder to do so. Additionally, the climate of the game world makes some things impossible as well. Further, the need for players to actually navigate and PLAY the game in such environments also limit it. For example, the early areas of Caledon Forest are the “dense forest” you want. Pretty sure Drytop and Silverwastes also qualify as a sandy desert too.

Not entirely right, or true, tolunart. Ectos are a RARE salvage result of rares and exotics, not the only result. You’re going to still get basic salvage results no matter what.

Localization in Russia

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aidan Savage.2078

And what special case with german or french? Maybe first we should understand differences in size of gaming markets and russian market not so small like “all other languages”. By the way, funny they translate Heart of the Thorn upgrade description, it’s like “give us your money, but we treat you like subhuman”

How many more players will purchase GW2 (and spend money to buy gems) if the game was localized to Russian? How much will it cost ANet to add support for Cyrillic and translate the current and future stories, skills+traits, mechanics, skin names, etc? How much additional ongoing QA and Customer Services costs will there be?

So far, I’ve yet to see anyone offer even back-of-the-envelope estimates that suggest that benefits would even match the costs, let alone exceed them (as it would need to do to be a good business investment).

So yes, it would be good to understand the different markets before claiming that anyone is being treated as “subhuman” because their native tongue isn’t localized

With 1.4 billion revenue and 11 place of all countries in 2016 i don’t see the problem to put at least subtitles, just like do most modern games. So yes, it would be better for all understand the different markets and profit from them.

Still irrelevant. The revenue of a country matters about as much as the country’s ethnic statistics. What matters are statistics about online gaming.

They’ve said before they WANT to. That’s a pretty clear indication of a possibility it’ll happen at some point.

Heart of Thorns meta event participation containers.

Good luck.

Am I reading this correctly, that HoT event loot IS affected by MF? Cause all I know is, during the Tarir event, especially, I deck myself out with any and all MF sources I have. Now from your reply here, it sounds like… my attempts here are not in vain?

ONLY the containers that specifically state they are, such as the Wyvern Cache iirc. The chests you need exalted keys to open? Those are NOT affected by magic find.

I have played this game for 9 years and the loot drops have been good. Lately loot drops have been horrible. I have bought 30 black lion chest and have got nothing of value. My interest in this game is dwindling along with my family.

Bring back the fun of getting something of value or interest.

Gonna call bullkitten on the time you’ve been playing the game. I’m also pretty sure you dont know exactly what you want either. First of all, BL chests are RNG boxes. You’re going to get stuff no matter what, you just dont have a choice. Or are you talking about random loot when killing kitten? Rares and exotics ARE valuable. Do you mean gold worth? That’s a glass house. If things become more common, they arent going to stay “valuable” for long. So…. I’m just gonna say what other people are probably going to think- you should probably find another game.

Thanks for the info guys. Anet… I will not be buying the expansion.

While this will seem harsh, if that’s your outlook of the game, I’d shelve GW2 indefinitely and find a game to replace it. Without the expansion, you will no longer have access to any new content (recurrent festivals are not “new”) that is gated behind the expansion.

Were did they say that ls3 were a hot feature?

Where did I claim that they did?

What I do believe is that if Anet says that I have to pay X dollars to have access to LS3, then they are saying that LS3 is paid content. I don’t care for the idea of gating paid content in this manner…

…but again, it isn’t really a big deal because a 2-3 month window of opportunity is pretty forgiving.

Wouldn’t Season 2 be considered paid content since you needed to have purchased the game to access it?

Technically, it’s inclusion in the game came looooooooooooong after release, so it’s not paid content per se. It’s paid content in the context that people who didnt play then need to pay in order to make it available. On the other side of the coin, it’s not paid content for the opposite context.

How do I unlock the episodes?
Just as in Season 2, you can unlock each episode for free by logging in to Guild Wars 2 any time between the episode’s initial release and the release of the next episode. If you don’t own Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, you can still log in to unlock the episode for free—it’ll be there waiting for you once you purchase the expansion!

Taken from the latest blog post, bolding my own.

edit: point still stands that you only paid for access to content, not the content itself. Otherwise players that dont own HoT wouldnt even be able to unlock it.

There’s nothing to keep up with. If you want it, you simply have to log into the game. That’s it. Outside of downloading updates, it takes maybe 30 seconds to do, 45 if your logging into LA. Also, you didnt pay for much besides access to content. The fact they added a window of opportunity to get that content for free…. well, no one’s fault but your own if you cant take even 5 minutes out of 2 weeks, 3 weeks, however long it is, to log in and get it. But I get it, you dont want to have to keep up with a game you no longer play despite seemingly being a consistent visitor to it’s forums. You know, where a lot of information is being given?

Assuming each line’s an average of 15 words, that’s 1500 lines, 40 repetitions, for a total of just under a million words. Assuming a modest conversational speed of 1wps, that’s still 250 hours of recording to be done. Even at a pace of 4 hours a day of perfect takes, that’s over 2 months of voice recording if done as a single session per day. In order for them to finish in a week (5 days), it’s going to take 13 recording sessions per day for them to finish the voice recording alone. Text stuff would likely take 1/5th as much effort, so add one more day. Integration and testing will likely take AT LEAST as long as that, so we’re looking at the end of July in a best case “a wizard did it” scenario. Mid-August is probably more reasonable.

We might need Masteries but it would be much easier to tie LS3 to a place then a set of skills. I image we’ll need to talk to someone in 1 of the new maps.

I mean that without HoT, you wont be able to participate at all. IE no joining a friend in their instances.

Aidan Savage.2078

For me it’s good enough to know that suggestions and concerns are being read. The only way the poster can know this is if they respond or tag them in a way that becomes apparent to the poster. As someone that does computer support for a living I know fully well that canned responses are needed as a time saver and understand if they had to use them. I have had to use them in a number of jobs. They are much better than silence.

We’ve been assured by Gaile that they DO get read. On the other side of the coin, Gaile’s said, that outside of extreme cases, we (players) hear nothing until it’s either about to come out in a patch or is going to be such a difficult thing to do that they need to wait until other system implementations occur. I believe she also said that a lot of the… “unconfirmed” suggestions do in fact get tested, but really dont work out, so nothing’s said in whatever thread(s) mentioning it.

It only “makes sense” for people who arent seeing more details of the picture.

Console and mobile portability was not considered, should not be considered, and will never be considered for GW2. The biggest factors are the update oversights (ie vetting processes each time) by the console “parents” that delays updates longer than what we get them now; game-breaking bugs existing longer than hours or days because of update oversight; server rollbacks as a result of update oversight issues; strictly isolated console servers due to inability to retain synchronous versioning across all platforms. These are the hurdles anet pretty much said “kitten no” to.

And here I was thinking it was more about how ANet didn’t want to give Sony a share of the profits if it were on the PS3/4…. How ignorant of me.

Feasibility before profit. The environment needs to be sustainable, and stable, enough that players WANT to be there.

Not gonna happen, Linux market share is like 2% while Windows is about 85%. Putting in that much effort to please the 2% makes no economic sense.

That’s 2% of the desktop market. Linux is a back in for way more than 2% of computing devices out there. As I stated previously; part of the reason why a Linux client makes sense is portability to other platforms like a native Mac client, PS3/4, etc.

It only “makes sense” for people who arent seeing more details of the picture.
