Is this game raid centric now?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aidan Savage.2078

Raids are a bloody waste of development time and I’m ashamed they have become anything in GW2, it’s a crime a bloody crime.

Kek

While raids have been seeing love while a lot of other stuff hasn’t recently, overall the raid team is incredibly small; the game is definitely far from raid-centric.

That’s likely because most of the raids were ALREADY almost finished when the team was downsized to the 5 or so people it has now. All they had left to do was basically polish work to release the subsequent wings. Particularly when raids were content that was coming along with HoT, not after, despite their release schedule. Other things like LS3 would be taking longer to arrive because they arent a mere boss fight.

edit: plus it seems when people REALLY hate on raids, they tend to ONLY see raids in releases, not the content they actually like, so their complaints are often skewed by that.

My account is 700 days old, so I should have the Loyal title. But when I go to select it, the game tells me I have no titles available to equip

It isnt your ACCOUNT that needs to be 365 days or older. You need a character that age.

That being said, did you know there’s a title/achievement for having a character who’s 9 years or older?

I believe it was said that GW1 is basically in a “life support only” state though. They get nothing new, not even bug fixes at this point I believe, and only have customer support staff pretty much. So any money they make out of GW1 is by willful spending of players.

That can easily be explained as players being so kitten over things they feel are going wrong leaving “employee” reviews which are nothing more than customer reviews aimed at doing the most damage possible.

The treasure chest icon is from world bosses and those are on a timer which you can access thru many, many websites. For instance the Wiki has one so does Dulfy.net. I am sure there are others that have the timer for the world bosses.

There is absolutely no reason players should have to go outside the game to get information about what is currently going on in the game with regard to events. Especially if the player is already on the map. This is 2016 folks, that world event timer should be accessible from inside the game. Create more immersion, do not destroy it. I can understand having to go to an outside website to look up a quest chain or the materials required for a recipe. I do not see why a player needs to go outside the game for a timer of live events happening while playing the game.

Because it’s easier to give someone a link and make them find the answer themselves than to look up the answer ourselves and tell them.

There is so much more information on those sites than just timers for the world boss events. By giving them the sites they get way more answers to questions that maybe they would not have asked in chat.

And it can head off the more stupid questions too. After what, 3-4 years? People tend to frown on seeing the same stupid question being asked over and over.

Just use the noobiest character you’ve got for this though. The return is a condensed JSON output, which means minimal (ie almost zero) whitespace, so it definitely looks fugly if you have a looooooooooooooooooooooooooot of unlocked recipes and bags.

edit- case in point, there’s also no line breaks either, so you’re only seeing like 1/30th of the return in my post. If you quote this post, you should be able to see the full thing. I hope.

Playing heal support not enjoyable

This has been my whole beef with the elite specializations. Nearly every class got higher damage output – absolutely ludicrous in some cases. The Ranger got Druid. Sure you can build a tanky troll build and slowly kill an opponent, but that is boring, and so is being roped into healing for raids.

Anyway, I was very disappointed in the inequitable distribution of the elite specializations.

And yet, many things actually do need that sort of healing that arent raids. Ever try to do scale 100 mai trin in 25 minutes, or less? Good luck getting that running around like headless chickens. A druid allows the fight to be done in a less risky, but not trivial, tank n spank run. I’ve seen my regular group finish mai trin in 15 minutes before, which is nice. Sadly I wasnt on the last step of ad infinitum by those runs.

Those chests never show up until after the event’s over. That generally makes itself clear the first time you go to such an event and the chest pops.

GW2 does not have trinity. The sooner you realize the game means for you to be doing damage ALONG with whatever else you do, the more enjoyable it gets.

And the devs already stated they wanted to move away from the “zerker” aka “damage only meta” because it was unhealthy.

Maybe the devs had a different vision for professions and combat early on, but we all know every profession has been forced into damage roles for the most part. While that’s great for all the players who play dps in every game, it shafts those of us who like diversity. Unfortunately the professions and combat in gw2 are still much more on the “one dimensional” damage side, and until better roles are offered it will always stay as such.

There are shifts happening in game with improved encounters, more gear options, more diversity with elite specializations… so we can’t sit here and pretend those changes aren’t intentional. Also, we can’t dismiss the fact more heal roles were introduced.

Clearly you cant understand what I said. You should probably go read my post again before making another one. Moving away from the zerker meta doesnt mean they’re going to go to an opposite extreme. Regardless of what else you do, the game INTENDS for you to be inflicting damage. That’s how encounters are built. kitten dont die because you heal it to death.

They needed to reclaim keys for other purposes.

Yet they dont say the purpose, and they dont even do any sort of asking or consultation or anything. And reclaiming keys is silly considering key bindings. But this is becoming par for the course for Anet, change stuff, give vague/no reason saying its needed for something, need never materializes.

I dont think keybindings are the keys they’re referring to. But given your attitude, I wont bother making any guesses as to what they’re doing.

Player name on spawned items please?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aidan Savage.2078

Aidan Savage.2078

Can we please have the player or account name attached to spawned items? So that we can report and block them?

This for example: http://i.imgur.com/T2MIhuC.jpg

Things like Aviator Box, Box o Fun, Merchants – basically any spawnable thing that can be interacted with. People are constantly spawning these kitten things on nodes and at the banks, etc. And yes, I know you can manually mouse click them, but some are smaller and people do this on purpose.

If people drop these things on popular area’s they would suddenly find themselves shut out and reported – if we had a name.

This creates a convoluted mechanic to solve a low-frequency issue that can be addressed in numerous other ways. In other words, there are simpler approaches to resolve the issue, which boils down to:
Make it hard for people to troll others using spawnable ‘nodes’ or ‘NPCs’

This solution requires that ANet: create an entirely new mechanic that will potentially impact all current and future ‘spawnables’ (which might cause unexpected programming issues) and require more time from players to /report and require more time from ANet to investigate (and decide whether and how to address individual trolls)… and in the end, it doesn’t actually prevent people from being jerks. Plus, it doesn’t prevent this sort of thing from happening accidentally.

Here are a few other approaches:

  • Set the priority of ‘spawnables’ to be last, behind all other ‘interactable’ objects/NPCs.
  • Alternative version: set the priority to be first for the player dropping the item and last for everyone else.
  • Prevent spawning interactables within a certain distance of those already on the map.
  • Reserve only special locations for spawning of interactables (I don’t like this one, because it also seems like extra effort for something that might also be annoying).
  • Throttle the number of interactables one account can spawn, by time and location.
  • Despawn interactables when the player who dropped them leaves the map or moves more than e.g. 2400 units distance.

None of these require any of us to /report other players. All reduce the likelihood that anyone (aside from the ‘spawner’) would be adversely affected by the dropping these objects.

tl;dr let’s address the root issue (spawned ‘nodes’ too close to map ‘nodes’)

The simplest solution would be to have an “embargo” zone of sorts. Perhaps a 600 unit radius around server “owned” interactables and static npcs. This would mean harvest nodes, npcs, chests, and my personal hate-inducing favorite, world boss portals (lookin at you kittens at TT).

Sigil of Force vs Bloodlust

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Aidan Savage.2078

Aidan Savage.2078

bloodlust gives you 10% increased damage at maximum stacks considering your base power is 2500, sigil of force add 5% to your current power so it gives you around 125 power before reduction, cmiiw if you really want to have the highest dps output try combine bloodlust with sigil of air(if you have high critical chance).

Not quite. Sigil of force is a DAMAGE multiplier, not stat multiplier. Using procession of blades on DH as an example, with 2306 power, it’s damage is 3370. With another 250 power, it goes up to 3740. Sigil of force would give a much lower damage boost primarily because of the trap’s skill coefficient being 5.5. If a skill’s coefficient is .5 or lower, sigil of force will give more damage than bloodlust. That being said, bloodlust is a worse choice in some areas, whether due to lack of stuff to kill, or because it’s harder to NOT go down.

Uh.. not quite, power is a damage multiplier as well so coefficient is irrelevant; 250 power is always better than +5% damage, unless you have 5000 power (which is practically unattainable)
on the other hand assuming you sit at 3k power, which is commonplace with 20-25 mightstacks, force is better only if bloodlust is stacked to 15 stacks or below(+150 power)
Also regarding cruelty it’s worse than bloodlust 100% of the time
edit: not sure why forum underlines automatically sentences xd can’t help it

Be mindful of using

+'s in posts as +'s
will cause it to underline unless you use the preformatted code tag like I did to post that sentence.

You do also understand that something being strictly better does not mean it’s ALWAYS better? If you’re a player who’s squishy as kitten regardless of your class, bloodlust sucks balls, as does cruelty. You lose stacks faster than you build them. That means sigil of force will be better for you. That’s also true in areas where the damage you take is going to be so high that you will go down at some point. If you’re in areas where there really arent a lot of things to kill, sigil of force will be better for you.

        [2896,2907,2897,2941],

        [2978,2899,2962,2932]
    ]
}

Would it be more readable if it was keyed by tier?

"fractal": {
"scales": [2327, 2244], // Daily Recommended Fractal Scale
    "Tier 4": [2896,2907,2897],
    "Tier 3": [2916,2949,2918],
    "Tier 2": [2978,2899,2962],
    "Tier 1": [2941,2952,2932]
                  }

This would allow apps to grab a specific tier of the fractal dailies alone instead of having to pull everything, and then sort out a given tier.

edit: based on user preferences and stuff.

I believe this is a reference to killing the non-aggressive mobs on the map. The longer a mob is spawned, the more bonus xp it gives… and usually peeps don’t think twice about killing non-aggressive mobs like Moas so they’ve usually been spawned for quite a while… it can be really good xp. As for it being more efficient than other means, I’m not sure… but it couldn’t hurt.

Fully boosted, I’ve been able to get more experience for killing non-hostile mobs than an event gives for gold, and with moas, you’ve got 2-5 of them in groups sometimes. Build up the killstreak booster off trash mobs and then start whacking moas.

can we all agree that would be either achievement points, or “fashion”?

Since there is no other measureable increase in a player’s character’s strength gained by spending money on anything.

Spending Money REAL LIFE MONEY mind you, does not give you a higher chance of completing X content than any joe shmoe who hope in and doesn’t spend a dime on gems or what have you.

because the above is true, the measurement of success in game would be the amount of incredibly difficult items to obtain.

I meet a guy in game with legendaries. His sword, his off hand, and his back piece. all shiny and nice. He (she dunno which) switches weapon sets. Another Legendary.

I think kitten this guy has done some work in this game!

He then swaps out his current set for Astralaria.

At this point i’m thinking kitten ! wtf!? hes nuts! he bots! he farms 24/7 he tosses items in the mystic toilet and gets incredibly lucky!
oh sure you cant “buy Astralaria” but you sure as kitten kitten kitten!!! KITTEN! need 2400 gold for just ONE phase of the kitten thing!!

“nice you have the new axe too!?”

To this he says:

“not just 1, i made 2.”

i just cant anymore. i leave the fractal. that was like 40 minutes ago, im still standing here in LA trying to decide if I should just spam chat with my user name and pw and answer all the authentication emails.

I spent the better part of 2 years making just 1 legendary.

I’ve NEVER thought for a second that GW2 was “pay to win”

However when the ONLY Measurement of Success in game is the acquisition of rare and costly items, and you can BUY those items with REAL LIFE MONEY

Its pay to win. Its fashion wars. not stat wars. Everyone has the same stats. Not everyone can get the same items.

So… what’s the complaint? That someone with more irl cash spent said irl cash and outright bought stuff ingame?

Suggestion, Rant, Discussion: Spirit Shards

Before masteries when you’d level up after 80 you’d get an extra skill point (which were later turned into spirit shards). I’m very tired right now so I’ll keep this very short and to the point and see what you all think about this.

Getting spirit shards right now is a matter of grinding and RNG and it’s complete nonsense when it doesn’t have to be.

My suggestion is to allow us to gain spirit shards at level-ups beyond 80 once again. This can be done in two different ways. Once all masteries are unlocked, rather than getting no EXP you can go back to earning levels (and thus earning spirit shards) as you would have before the mastery system.

I also suggest that at any time you can disable masteries while leveling them up in order to enable the above scenario.

Thoughts?

Eat a tome on a level 80. You’ll get a spirit shard. I’ve got over half a stack of them in the bank, and I’m only getting them from the monthly logins, rarely from pvp (havent done it in a while).

Just logging in to point out that any time information necessary to complete a mission, story or achievement isn’t available in game, but requires you to use an outside resource, then Anet has failed.

That simple, nothing else to add. There are a number of instances wherein this holds true, and each time it comes up, it’s a complete failure on the developers’ behalf.

Troll post, 0/10, try again. Ever wonder why there’s a hardcoded command in the game that will search the gw2wiki for what you append to the command? Next time you log in, try using “/wiki how do i use the wiki”

that are the kind of answers that scare people to play raids and that actitude
the first step to toxicity
you are illustrating my point

No I’m not. I’m illustrating the reason there ARENT “ezmode” raids. Raids were made to BE the hard content for small groups of players. It’s people who whine and cry about raids being too hard, or take too long, that anet themselves INTENDED to exclude from raids. Not going to put any effort at meeting the bar where it was set in the first place? Yea, you should be left out of anything behind raids. Should there be a “difficulty” where you dont get ANY type of reward or drop loot? Maybe.

edit: and only snowflakes think my points are toxic instead of simple truth. God forbid someone says the truth around here.

HoT map rewards? Chests? Unbalanced!

Or just trash the extras. Which is ultimately less work all around than some convoluted craptastic crafting solution.
