Resume active play or be kicked

If not mistaken, mouse actions does not count towards afk timer reset, neither does jumping if not wrong, autowalking don’t walk either (my experience), seem you have to do some kind of active movement or use some skills not to get kicked..

I can object: autorunning does prevent you from being kicked due to inactivity. If you ever see anyone autorunning into a corner, this is what’s going on.

for some places/activities this doesnt always work, like crabtoss.

As far as not being able to take screenshots, yes it’s an OS ‘feature,’ but some games like GW2 include a screenshot function bound to the printscreen button. I think the TP is capturing all input while it’s considered the active window in the game, and it functions more like a browser than your inventory tab.

Minimal difference as far as gaming goes. Go with win7 if you hate that aberrant “metro” BS.

Metro is fine (honestly, I find it better then the start menu), and if you really can’t deal with it you can always make it go away. There’s really no reason not to get Win8 instead of Win7 at this point in time.

Most computers ship win8 now anyways. I rarely upgrade OS until the the second service pack, or “next gen” OS, arrives. By that point, all the crap is worked out and using the OS is actually enjoyable. I just hope the next OS MS puts out isnt Vista v2.

Remove champion bags from LA champs

If the point is to ignore these events and focus on saving civilians, then why are these events in LA at all?

What’s funny is that all the events DO contribute to the civvie total. I’m not entirely sure about the champion events (not champions from scaled events that generally get doomed to failure at that point- cough molten), as every time I’ve done 1200 runs with my guild, the champs spawn and/or finish well after 1200 has been reached. The asthma events also contribute 10 if you only beat one of them I believe. If you complete the other two events, you get a bonus of 20 and 35 civvies, or somewhere in that area, for another 50 or so rescued.

I do agree though, it’s quite possible to reach 1200 civvies without touching a miasma event.

Tome of Knowledge

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Aidan Savage.2078

Aidan Savage.2078

The Tome of Knowledge does give the character one level, but it does not give the same percentage of completion for the next level. (ex. if a character is lvl N+33% of the next level and use the tome, it goes to LvL (N+1)+33%of the next). Using the Tome gives you the SAME number of points in the next level, which is not the same percentage, it is a lower percentage since the next level takes more points.

They dont give 100% level, they give a FIXED amount of exp that it takes to go from 0% to 100%. If it takes 100xp to go from 1-2, and 2-3 takes 150xp, but you’re at 50% (50xp), you’re going to get 100xp, not 125xp. This is why the exp bar shifts to the left, you’re not getting a %increase, you’re getting a +increase.

Contact your ISP like anet tells you. If the ISP tries to send you back to anet, ESCALATE THE CALL. Keep doing it until they actually admit they’re doing kitten. ISPs can, will, and have throttled gaming traffic. If they tell you they dont throttle, they’re lying pretty hardcore.
Of course, anet’s not helping by using some obscure error code theme. Simplify the error codes for christ sake.

Triple Threat even possible now?

I imagine there’s some sort of psychological reasoning behind this behavior but it’s certainly a trait you’ll find in any multiplayer game over a span of time.

It’s something much much much simpler. The current LS event is fully finished in an HOUR. It’s entirely realistic for people to have completed every single achievement for this LS meta in the first hour this event was running. After that, what’s left for them to do? Sure there’s farming, but even THAT can get boring after a day or five. All the “hardcore” players more or less stopped running LA last week. Right now it’s the stragglers, farmers, and the Hive Mind (the zerging).

In fact, it’d be interesting to see just how many AP can be accumulated without actually doing any skill intensive combat.

Does being carried in content like fotm 49/50 count as not having done any skill intensive combat? Because I’ve seen such specimen with 19K AP. Expecting the guardian to be full cleric and dedicated to getting him back from the downed state. And oh lord, did he knew the meaning of downed state.

The handful of times I’ve done dungeons with friends, I’m usually the one that’s downed/dead the most. The whole aggro system just goes awol when it wants and i’m usually running circles avoiding death with my ele while my party tries to get the mobs’ attention back xD God I miss the aggro management in GW1…. That being said, I’m not dying so much because I’m a bad player (just a bad dodger probably) so much as it is my class simply gets squashed so easily. <1k ap or 50k+ ap, that fact wont change.
Now, I have maybe…. 3 AP from pvp related activities, but that hardly has any relevance in a dungeon where you arent facing other players, but mobs who for all intents are static. They do the same actions over and over, and never change skills between one encounter and the next. So running the dungeon repeatedly and getting good at it means someone with as little as 500 AP can run the dungeon BETTER than someone with 2-20 times the AP. Which is what makes AP as a metric for skill so inaccurate.

Edit for post above mine: I’d like to try joining those groups that say “experienced only” because it’s a good way to learn the RIGHT way of doing the dungeon, but a lot of those groups are merely after fast loot, not necessarily teaching one or two “fresh” players how to run the dungeon.
Plus what’s with the hate about story mode? The fact it doesnt give the dungeon tokens? kitten that, maybe someone’s trying to run it for the achievements. It took me 2 weeks to successfully run the CM dungeon. Four times the group was a bunch of blithering idiots that wiped at the golem until their armor broke (I stopped trying to fight the boss after 1/2 my armor was damaged). Twice a group made it outside the basement just to get kitten d by the hounds. Anyways…
TL;DR- Sometimes it’s better to not be entirely stringent about your “leet” requirements for dungeons so others can learn how to do them. Doesnt have to be the “110% efficient 3 minute speedrun” method, but rather the “if you arent a complete moron” way of doing the dungeon.

How you get so much xp?

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Aidan Savage.2078

Aidan Savage.2078

This is what I’ve done for my guardian. I took her from level 2 to 80 in the span of 4 days, although i used crafting to get her 15-20 levels so she could get better weapons more quickly. Once she was at about level 40-45, every LA run would net 3 levels, one (and if lucky, two) from event and kill xp, and two (if unlucky, one) from found belongings (I averaged 200-250 bags since I did the LOOTSTICKS approach).

As far as events, I believe the majority of them give 7% from the event itself. So if you tag one mob at each of the miasma and rally point events, you’re looking at 21% from a single miasma cycle and another 21% from rally points. Throw in the fact that there’s 3 cycles in an hour, you’re looking at nearly two and a half levels. Hit the dolyaks the 4-5 times they pop, along with the children and ogres as well, you could probably level a character from 1 to 80 in a day if you were sufficiently hardcore.

Lootsticks approach????
Also, how can i do this with an ele or a necro?Skillz aoe e.t.c

Lootstick = Guardian staff 1 skill. Forward cone aoe that hits 5 targets at once, with, I believe, a 1/2 second cast time. Disable autotarget and skill promotion, find and event, run in circles mashing your 1 key. Follow event circle and repeat. Event ends, go back the way you came mashing your aoe loot button. Bath in the pile of loot. Rinse, repeat, rejoice.
As far as an ele goes, I honestly dont think you can unless you run d/? for lightning whip. Unfortunately, since the whole idea behind lootsticks is to scale events into elites/champs, an ele (AND a necro) is going to get squashed into a thin smear of bloody paste from just being looked at wrong. Main reason I dont take my ele to LA for farming.

Definitely a lot faster than 6% if my laptop also uses HD4000 without terrible graphics.

As far as what you want your framerate to be, aiming for stable 18-22 fps in zergy activities is fine in pve. I’m running an nvidia GT610 on my desktop and when my guild is running Teq, I’m lucky to see 20 fps when we start burning him. I usually average 22-25 outside of that. Mind you this with everything on absolute low for performance.

PeakWorkingSet: 3234MB
PageFaults: 59718794

You REALLY should be disabling a lot of those processes. The more of those you have running, the more issues you’re going to have, especially if some of those processes barely qualify as QoL tasks. I’m sitting at 92 processes myself right now purely because i’m installing peripheral drivers, and when done, i’m going to be axing as many of them as I can.
Second, cutting out those processes can also fix that horrifying memory issue. Seriously, how in kitten-loving hell do you manage 25GB of memory usage at once? What the hell are you running with guild wars? Servers? 3 different CAD programs at once? On top of that, you’re paging twice that amount. I dont think it has anything to do with guild wars, just the extremely high amount of what equates to digital kitten backing up.
That’s also a pretty large amount of pagefaults. Since you’re running 32GB of memory, I’d suggest some diagnostic tests to see if any of the boards are failing. If not, disable/remove 1/2 the memory and set the paging file to 8GB. Additionally, go through services.msc (not MSCONFIG, which is a temporary method, good for testing, not good for “standard” use), google every service that’s listed as running or automatic startup, and disable anything that’s not essential or a QoL service you want.

Tl;Dr- fix the issues with your memory and you might see the problems go away. That’s a disgusting amount of used RAM on a desktop that I’d only expect to see on server machines.

Your CPU wont be full load because GW2 sits on a single core as it’s single thread. Since i7s are quad core, you wouldnt even see more than 25% load from gw2.

(might be wrong, but I rarely see more than 50% while running gw2 on my i3)

How can this even be up for discussion? The average 5k AP player is probably more skilled than the average 1k AP player. And dont give me one of those “but I’ve met that one guy who…” answers. Its all just statistics and probability when you’re running dungeons every say of the week and want those runs to be efficient. Since there is no alternative I always ask for full zerlk 5k+.

5k ap merely means they’ve been playing gw2 longer. I could gather 5k+ AP with a necro and start running dungeons on my power-leveled 80 warrior with the twink gear, and i’d be complete kitten in the dungeon, and 9 times out of 10, you’d have no problems at all. But if I’m playing a properly fitted ele with only 1k or less AP, you’d kick me from the party even if i’d ran a given dungeon 2 thousand times and could solo it in my sleep.
In fact, it’d be interesting to see just how many AP can be accumulated without actually doing any skill intensive combat. Huh, you can gain roughly 4.2-4.5 thousand AP. 2-3k AP is a far more reasonable request.

Triple Trouble Meta Seemingly Bugged

Funny thing, I wrote the support about that (got 11 but only 9 counted) and they redirected me to a GM which wrote me in email “This has been fixed”… It obviously hasn’t. Sent them some screens now. And such an answer took them several days. Oh well.

It HAS been fixed. Read the anet post above yours a bit. The fix is likely to be out Tuesday. Seems kinda pointless to put out a hotfix that only addresses a single issue when a few days/week later the next major content update is being released. Plus if you’re waiting on retroactive validation, not like you’re waiting for it to be reset to 0.

Edit: Wurmicidal Maniac does not count towards the meta like the description says.

How you get so much xp?

I’m pretty sure you don’t get xp from mob kills in LA. Only events.

Um….what? As far as I’ve been able to see, you ALWAYS get xp from mob kills. Only times you dont are when you havent tagged the mob hard enough. You sure you been doing the LA event?

You might even be better off just making a level 2 Guard and getting a staff, joining a full group of staff guards and just farming up kills. Open the bags and use the (forgot item name) to get the level tomes.

This is what I’ve done for my guardian. I took her from level 2 to 80 in the span of 4 days, although i used crafting to get her 15-20 levels so she could get better weapons more quickly. Unfortunately, you have until next Tuesday to farm the shards. That’s when the next update rolls out, and there’s no guarantee you can still farm the shards. I mean, look at what happened to the chests in scarlet’s lair (which are “supposedly” being put back).

They were there for the entire time Marionette was up. That was a month, not two weeks.

This has only been up for two weeks, it will most likely be up for two more while we also have more to do inside the drill itself.

Unfortunately you could also run Marionette all the way up to the point you were dropped off teh server to download and deploy the update. There’s one major sticking point though- once you get the notice that there’s a new build, attempting to change zones forcibly drops you from the game and start downloading the update. Not to mention Anet didnt really give an exact time for when the update was going to be available. You’d be correct if they STOPPED dropping ciphers a day or two before the update went away as a big hint for people to actually go out and use the ciphers they had before the update came.

As said above, this is a NAB feature. Elementalists cannot do weapon swaps, if they could, you would see a second place to equip weapons in the equipment window. Switching attunements is the equivalent of using the F1-F4 skills in other professions. Ironically, the real bug might be other on-swap runes triggering when switching attunements.
