RAID proposition please consider

a lot of people don want to raid because
dont have the time
needs more people
dont want to fail and make others waste time
dont feel they can do it

In order:

  • If you dont have the time to commit to raids, you shouldnt be at raids.
  • use the LFG like everyone else does
  • if you dont want to fail, dont be a stupid player and at least KNOW what your class does at a raid, or do what some people and buy raids
  • guess you arent getting legendary armor unless you buy raids

Aidan Savage.2078

I’m having a hard time seeing “jumping up and down on a dead enemy” as abusive, really. It’s annoying, sure. But it’s not something I’d consider reportable. As for your other examples, if you suspect they’re doing something that isn’t possible, then report for botting.

If I reported every player who stood behind me and swooshed his sword or cast his spells endlessly, just as a means of getting attention, I’d be reporting until the Dolyaks come home. Fact is, a lot of this stuff is attention-seeking, and I would give as little attention as possible to it, including spending even 30 seconds of my time to report.

I just move on. Suggest you do as you wish, though, because if it’s truly bothersome to you, reporting can be worthwhile.

Not sure if anyone else brought it up yet, but is it possible to get a reporting option so that we can report players who are deliberately taking actions in events that are considered malicious and counter-productive? IE one or a group of people finishing off one of the octovines in Auric Basin far too early in relation to the other 3, thus causing the event to basically fail as a result of the regeneration mechanic. This is just an example, but it’s a perfect example of some of the trash behavior certain players exhibit in the game.

Auto Sale and Auto Salvage Features

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aidan Savage.2078

Definitely a NO to an auto-sale. The closest I personally would want is a game-wide setting at merchants that would let me set certain item categories (based on what’s in your inventory) so that they’re treated as junk. That way I could set minor sigils and runes, as an example, as a “junk” category for me, and when I press sell junk, that stuff sells too.

For the auto-salvage stuff, only via context menu for individual kits. Though I would prefer if it was something like “XXXXX only” or “XXXXX and lower” for the options.

GW2 Races need a Chubby option

Diversity isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but in this case it would be completely immersion-breaking. With all of that fighting and running around, I can’t see any character being chubby.

In Japan, Sumo are some of the healthiest and athletic people on the planet. In wrestling, The Big Show can do a moonsault.

It’s more likely that they are healthy simply because of young age and daily exercise than being healthy because they are sumo wrestlers. There’s evidence that their risk for diabetes and hypertension is higher than that of the surrounding general population. They also have a high incidence of knee problems.

One of the trade-offs though, is their bone strength, least for their legs, is often much higher than someone of a “healthier” weight. Granted, having bones of steel doesnt help much when your knees are made of paper.

One other thing. If this apparently amazing raid team they have can make all this raid content, why can’t a small fractal team pump out more fractals?

I mean, they are supposed to be much smaller in scope and complexity, but still 5 man challenging content right? Heck, can we even just have the raid team moved over to make a few new fractals every now and then if they are so good at content creation? Or have them obersee the fractal team or something anyway.

In order for new fractals to be added to the rotation, old fractals would need to be taken out, whether permanently or in a random lottery style rotation. That’s if they limit it to 100 scales.

Official Statement:

The most recent information we have is this bug has been identified and a fix has been made in the development setting. We believe this fix will roll out very soon, perhaps as soon as tomorrow. It is not possible to correct the issue today, so we appreciate your patience on this.

Thanks for the information! Will the limited availability of the Phoenix glider be extended in light of this (pretty major) unintended nerf to gold making? 2 days is not a lot of time to make the gold needed for it especially with gold-to-gem rates spiking (yet again).

Not likely when it wasnt the SW meta-event that produced the best gold from that map. It was the chest farm and pacman. Even that is outweighed by AB when you’re fast enough to hop maps like a madman.

People, people, people.

You have a legitimate question, all of you. But some of you are going off the rails with a really high level of snarkiness, grumpiness, and general unpleasantness.

I have asked around, and after some discussion amongst teams, we think we may understand what happened. What you want (need) to know is this: The change to the Silverwastes drops was not intentional, and it will be corrected.

If you could please avoid the name-calling and the other tin-foil hat comments, I’d appreciate it. I can get down into core issues a lot more quickly, save myself a pair of permanently-raised eyebrows, and save my team members another muttered “Oh really, you guys?” if you just ask the question straight up and let us get you an answer!

Thanks! And I’ll update when we have more info!

How close is the dev team to leaving in such “nerfs” just to rightfully spite a segment of this game’s community?

Why are charged quartz time-gated?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aidan Savage.2078

Just curious as to what the purpose of this is. It seems a little archaic to me. I assume it was originally to keep people from having full sets of celestial gear at ease, but with them being in the game for so long and so many guild upgrades large quantities of items like celestial inscriptions and ley-line infused tools, the daily cooldown seems to only further time gate a system that is already reliant on so many other things that also take time, such as large amounts of pvp potions etc.

Is this not a system we can put to rest at this point? Or at least be more lenient with? Such as a higher max number of charges a day?

Even if it’s timegated, there’s very few things that require them in a large quantity that a SINGLE player is meant to accrue. Guild hall upgrades need a large number in total, but with the number of players in guilds, it’s a small amount for each player.

Why are all events on a locked timer?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aidan Savage.2078

Aidan Savage.2078

Because due to the megasever system and how events that aren’t on fixed timers work. If they weren’t on fixed timers, it may be very hard to find maps with active world bosses as the maps don’t spawn at the start of the window. They act as if the boss was just defeated.

So in order to let the world bosses actually spawn with any amount of regularity, they have to spawn at specific server times.

Not entirely Seera. There’s been days where I’ve gotten to teq late, as in “it’s started already” late, and have hopped onto a brandspankingnew map that started teh teq meta event nearly 10 minutes late. I BELIEVE that as long as a fresh map spawns within the event’s natural time, those maps will spawn the event even if it’s say, XX:14.

As someone who does all of the fractal dailies everyday I kinda dislike this. I’m okay with not getting all 3 but shouldn’t at least one of the fractal dailies count as an actual daily?

You can. When it comes up as an actual Daily Achievement.

It transfers everything from one character to the other. Waypoints, Hearts, Vistas, Star.

The original character loses everything.

You don’t get any extra gifts.

Please.

Why? It would take you half hour to an hour TOPS to get the waypoints needed for dungeons (which is literally the first waypoint you get going into that zone), world bosses, and guild missions (aside from bounties, which would take a few). Stop being lazy and actually go run around.

Lore Q&A

in Lore

Posted by: Aidan Savage.2078

Aidan Savage.2078

InsideousWaffle, it’s entirely likely the “glory class” ships, as you call them, were designed specifically as an anti-air vessel meant to fight aerial opponents. The airships were designed to deal with Zhaitan specifically, and of all the Elder Dragons he seemed to use flying creatures far more often than the rest. There were entire fleets of Risen dragons filling the skies of Orr, after all. So it makes perfect sense to have a ship class dedicated entirely to aerial combat.

The reason they chose that as their flag ship is likely because Zhaitan himself was a winged dragon and was fully capable of flight. So was Kraalkatorrik. We haven’t met Jormag yet but his concept art involves wings. So that’s three out of four Elder Dragons that the Pact knew had flight capabilities, with the last dragon being subterranean anyway. It makes sense to choose the anti-air vessel as your flagship and mount your Elder Dragon killing weapon on it when you are facing a foe you know is capable of taking to the air.

As for bringing anti-air to Modremoth, that just makes sense. They didn’t know exactly what Modremoth was packing, so they brought their full kitten nal. Given every other known dragon makes use of flying units, even Primordus with his Destroyer harpies, it makes sense to assume that this dragon is also capable of fielding aerial units that need to be countered. Plus we knew Modremoth had things like Shadow of the Dragon which was capable of flight, and like Zhaitan it was entirely likely he had more back home waiting.

They just weren’t expecting a massive assault from the ground the likes of which no Elder Dragon has ever launched before.

Edit: What? I can’t say kitten nal? It just means a store of weapons…

kitten . <- Nal. Just the peculiarity of the filter.

Aidan Savage.2078

I agree that they could have done better, that’s why I’m giving them suggestions on how to improve the competitive aspect of PVE. Maybe we could even do it cross-server: 2 megaservers doing the same meta event. The one that does it quicker, gets better rewards, the loser one, gets nothing, so that players would improve over time due to the feedback of loot.

No. You want competitive bullkitten? Go to a different game. There’s a reason the ONLY competitive areas of the game involve pvp. PvE is meant to be a cooperative environment. You dont like it? Goodbye.

Release inactive char names

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aidan Savage.2078

Aidan Savage.2078

Before you read: I’m not complaining that I can’t get MY specific name, just that naming is a headache in general. Just thought I’d clear that up as I’m not trying to be salty, but have a real discussion on the issue.

I’ve long thought this game had an issue with names. 2 out of the 5 races do not have surnames, which means if you want to fit the lore you pretty much aren’t going to as almost every conceivable name is taken. I tried to make do with it for a long while by simply spending days, sometimes weeks trying to come up with a name for a character. I thought anet had their reasons, as the game is supposed to be one you can pick up again if you’ve been away for some time, which is rare with MMOs and is one feature I like about this game. But today after being frustrated at not being able to find a surname for my human, I decided to see what would happen if I kept adding X’s to his name until I found a version that was available. While I understand this is a very common name, I can usually get away with Knoxx or Knoxxe in other MMOs. This is just absurd.

Anyways, discuss. Am I the only one who thinks naming in this game is ridiculous? Are you for or against the release of unused char names and/or do you have any better ideas to solve the naming issue?

Anet’s already stated they will not purge names. Ever. Time for you to get creative.

S: to mitigate flipping TP and bots

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aidan Savage.2078

Aidan Savage.2078

Hi everyone. Hopefully we can get the opinion of ANET here. This is meant to be as respectful as it can be.

Idea:
Maybe a tag can be added to items you buy in the TP.

Mechanics:
The tag will contain the information of how much did you pay for it and the date the transaction was effected.

Then add a condition to selling in the TP where if the date in the tag of the item is less than a month it wont allow you to sell it for more than what you bought it for (that way you can sell the thing you buy by mistake).

No. Just no. You pointedly ignore, whether out of ignorance of it or willful act, that flippers actually keep prices manageable. They bring equilibrium to the markets they dabble in.

Beyond that, such a suggestion is technologically unfeasible for so many reasons I’m not going to bother going into them.

Communication is good, but we need plans

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aidan Savage.2078

Quoting from another thread of similar topic:

In all seriousness, they limit just how transparent they are because this community has a disgustingly high ability to self-delude exploratory comments (“we may have precursor crafting out by the end of the year [2013 or ’14, cant remember], but things may change plans”) into concrete Word Of God statements (“we WILL have precursor crafting by the end of the year”) and start flipping kitten like brain-addled monkeys who had their banana taken away when their supposed “promises” didnt happen. That resulted in anet more or less staying quiet on projects until they reach the “short of an act of god killing our servers, this IS happening” stage. Primarily because this means that we’ll have a near-zero chance (because some people exist) of misconstruing exactly what’s happening. It also means we can provide feedback that actually means something rather than being as vague as “I hate sword skills on my class, do something.” Or whatever.

[QOL Suggestion]Refinement on Top

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aidan Savage.2078

Agree, I would also like to separate out the different refining sorts, eg all wood to logs together, cloth to bolts etc. Hitting make dowel when you want to make 500 logs is nasty.

Actually, that could also be solved by creating a 7th “quality” tier in the crafting window. Unchecking Fine will hide all the regular dowels, as they ARE fine quality, but also ALL other refinements which are Basic quality. So if they added the Basic quality tier to crafting, this would also solve the problem, even if we’d have to scroll past crafting components still.

[QOL Suggestion]Refinement on Top

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aidan Savage.2078

Basically as the title says, much like how we have the hiding and rearranging options elsewhere in the UI, it’d be nice to have an option at the crafting benches to have Refinements at the top of the list, rather than alphabetical. Or an option that hides everything BUT refinement, much like the “have materials,” “gain experience,” and “can equip” options. It’s tedious having to scroll alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the way down just to get to refinements.

Why so many items/currency in lvl 80 zones ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aidan Savage.2078

Aidan Savage.2078

So here’s my suggestion to improve the current loot system:

  1. Remove the majority of bags and make the contents drop directly. No more bagception.
  2. Reduce the amount of blues, greens, yellows and even exotics drastically.
  3. Increase the amount of crafting materials per salvage. Let’s say the amount of blues was decreased to 1/10 of it’s current value, then increase the amount of crafting materials gained from salvaging by 10 times.

This radical reduction of loot and especially bags is necessary to remove the “noise”. Now that you actually have a chance to pay attention to what you’re getting it’s time to introduce the treat. Introduce a new crafting material for this or repurpose an existing one.

  • The crafting material must be identifyable at a glance. Therefore both icon and name must be easily distinguishable from all other items in game.
  • The crafting material’s value must be as stable as possible. It should be somewhere around 2-5g per piece and scale with the current inflation.
  • To make the material stay valuable there must be a constant sink that especially competitive and hardcore players use. For example buff food, but also ludicriously expensive skins (with this material being the main resource). Mobile crafting stations and other convenience items are also an option.
  • The material must NOT be earnable by any other means than looting or buying on the TP.

And finally, because the true satisfaction about good loot is congratulating others and being congratulated:

  • Announce loot with a TP value of more than 2g group wide.
  • Announce loot with a TP value of more than 20g squad wide.
  • Announce precursor drops and ascended boxes map wide.

Many times the reason you get bags is BECAUSE there’s so much loot. HoT maps? You can get champ bags AND random loot from the chests. Champ trains? Imagine have to fall behind every 10 minutes because your inventory’s full instead of stacking up champ bags?

If more people are buying to re-sell than are buying to use then to me that indicates that the prices are a bubble. There’s only so long that people can buy and sell to each other and not buy to use before it stops being profitable. If supply is not being used up as new coins keep coming in then the supply gets so high that the price bubble collapses.

The only way for them to be buying in bulk to sell for profit is if prices suddenly rise by 10 silver or more, as it’s currently an 8 silver loss on flips.

edit; lololololololololololol prices went up after my post to where the spread was only a ~1silver loss.

My favourite class is Ele, and I’ve found I’m more suited to defensive teams / turrets as I’m typically never downed by anything there. And really, telling someone to rack off from defensive, or they’re not needed? Any other time people are begging for hills and boat teams.

People want to start crying and abusing other players, that’s fine. I just laugh and do Teq at daily reset. Don’t be surprised if you can’t get the numbers if yall gonna get abusive.

Have you considered that maybe the defenses and turrets ARE already filled? Extra people beyond a full party are, unfortunate for you, unnecessary at best, detrimental at worse.

Reduce time to sell items to BL

Aidan Savage.2078

Even if they could, how many players do you think are affected by this and how often? I routinely buy|sell 100 items/day (and many, many more when I used to play the TP) and I’ve hit this limit exactly once. (Guess I’m just too slow and methodical in my selling.)

I hit it on a regular basis, particularly after doing meta event chains that give lots of bags with lots of greens and blues.

I tend to sell all of them on the TP to the highest bidder. Which means it’s a matter of clicking an item, clicking sell, clicking ok and then going on to the next one. It’s very easy to do it quickly enough to hit the limit. And once you do it seems to be cumulative, if you don’t wait a few minutes for it to wear off you’ll hit it on every single item.

Fortunately I’m usually leaving the map and need to drop stuff off at the bank (or pick up my gold from the TP) when I’ve finished a long event chain so I’ll sell as much as I can, go to LA, sell a load more, go to the bank, sell some more etc. and eventually I get through it. But if I’ve managed to fill up my inventory it takes a while.

Why not just salvage? You can almost always make more money by salvaging and selling or refining and THEN selling.

Does xbox live gold count as a sub? and if so updates, qol, events, and LS should all be included. Pay for dlc’s seperate.

Xbox live does count as a subscription, but it’s a bit different because it’s a subscription to the whole service rather than one game.

The problem with your suggestion is that updates, quality of life changes and events are already free to everyone (even free players). And last time around the Living Story was free for everyone who logged in during the 2 week release period for each update.

Restricting all of that to only make it available to subscription players would be a truly terrible idea.

So basically port/cross-network/profit to consoles and keep it the way it’s

Except console is basically a “we arent doing it” WoG statement. All you people forget that anet vets their OWN updates for the game. Console? MS and Sony would need to vet patches and updates as well. That means consoles will not be able to play with PC servers, and likely wont ever support cross-platform play either. Game-breaking bugs that get fixed within hours on PC? Days or weeks for console because of patch vetting. Followed by potential rollbacks. No thanks.

As donari mentions, Sylvari are capable of literally growing battle armor on par with steel. In a day. Or two. So it really isnt that hard to think that a sylvari would, could, and probably HAS grown a kitten, or two, or more, if they really wanted to. Or any other dangly bits. But that’s enough straying into unpaid hazard areas. Suffice it to say that it’s possible.

Here’s a question I’ve been pondering for awhile. Are there any other groups/secret societies/ruling bodies for the various professions like The Mesmer Collective or the ever so mysterious “Order” that was active in the days of GW1?

Guardians and elementalists are really the only two other professions I could see having such Entities, mainly for obvious reasons. Thieves, however, sorta are confirmed to have such through the Elite skill, Thieves’ Guild (or w/e it’s called).

Personally, my current question is about revenants. While Mallyx and Shiro ARE probably the best choices lore-wise, is it possible for revenants (from a writer/player-perspective) to have a binding/contract/pickadescriptor with different echoes? Or are those two, along with the other Legends, the only choices because they’re the Epitome of what they embody (corruption, salvation, etc)?

Post your constuctive VIP sub model ideas, not your personal dislikes of the VIP sub idea in general.

Go…

Edit- This thread is not to post your approval or disproval of a VIP model, it’s to share what you would want IF it were going to happen. I’m not asking if you like it or not. It’s a “what if?” thing.

It’s NOT going to happen, so there really isnt any point playing the “what if” game.

Only reason to do it is for a legendary of course, and I don’t want to be a PvE hero. This game has 3 games modes (PvE, PvP, and WvW). There is a reason why WvW was removed from map completion, because PvE players did not want to play it, just like I don’t want to play PvE. I won’t get a lot of support here since most people that use the forums are PvE players, but I wanted to get the idea floating.

Guess you’re going to be buying a lege off the TP then. An idea like this has sunk before you even hit “post topic.” The proof of heroics are not, despite what you personally think, meant for map completion. They are meant for those who primarily do wvw and whatnot to unlock hero challenges and further learn character specializations.

Anet...slow down gemstore introduction

With these rising gem prices many people are getting upset with them. I personally am not because I am never interested in these purchases. It bugs me that arena net focuses on outfits and gliders than actual in game(not gemstore) armors and weapons. I like some of the outfits, but I want to be able to use some parts of these outfits…not the whole thing. I think many other people would agree with me that anet should focus more on the players ability to make their own look instead of following an outfit that requires you to spend mass amounts of money to get.

Anet needs to make money to fund this game properly.

We can’t keep catering to the free players who do not want to invest in their own game, they get enough free as is.

They do that with the gliders, back items, toys, and mining tools. along with the outfits and other things. I just want to be able to use different sections of outfits that I pay for. Keep the gem store stuff, but dont just lock the outfits where you are stuck with an amazing hood or chest piece and really bad looking boots and pants where you start to dislike the outfit to the point that you stop using it.

This is a company that needs to make money to give players stuff so they can make more money.

The gem store is how they make the bulk of their money, so you are asking them to not make money but keep giving you free stuff.

if you didn’t read what I said, I just wish that outfits could have the six different parts that you can pick and choose from after you PURCHASE them from the store.

In other words, you want them to make gemstore armor, which Anet’s explicitly stated will only be done “ingame,” not the gemstore.

Melee Pistols

Yes, I know, that’s why I referred to them as throwing axes in that post. The point that I was trying to make that in Gw2 there are several more logical options than what the fantasy characters currently use.

I can understand people not liking this idea, but I don’t understand people calling something that is actually practiced in some forms irl illogical (yes, there are people who run up directly to people before shooting them), when compared to great swords shooting purple magic beams.

While I do understand that, how is it any different than what the thief does with pistol/x or x/pistol? However, what I’m talking about as being stupid is the, personally, asinine idea that such tactics must be restricted to melee range. IF you want such skills like that, then leave them to offhand pistols, not mainhand weapons. Otherwise there’s no difference in whether they’re done by daggers or pistols. CQC techniques with pistols and whatnot are generally far better done with weapons specifically MEANT for CQC use- daggers.

Melee Pistols

We have a handful of ranged melee weapons.
I thought it would be pretty cool to have a class that utilizes all point blank pistol attacks. (point blank as in the pistol barrels will be in physical contact with the victim or a few inches away)

At which point you might as well NOT use pistols and actually use melee weapons? Categorically speaking, bows, rifles, and pistols are ranged weapons without exception. Thieves will blend the pistol’s role, but it’s still primarily a ranged weapon.

Kind of like rangers and revenants might as well use ranged weapons instead of throwing axes and gigantic hammers, and mesmers using greatswords for spell casting.

It may not making logical sense to some, but there is already a precedent for using weapons as they originally weren’t intended for in GW2.

You do realize that there’s such concepts as THROWING AXES? Considering the axes ingame arent 2 handed greataxes, odds are, they’re throwing axes. As for the revs? Have you actually LOOKED at the skill? The revenant hammer is barely any different than the ele’s staff. Why? Because they’re throwing a manifestation of Mist Energy that LOOKS like a hammer. It’s kitten near identical in operation to the mesmer greatsword skill where they “throw” a clone of the greatsword.

So you mean, you still pull the trigger, but the range is only close combat? Isn’t that just using pistols as they are already, but close up?

No, current pistols can be used at a range of 900, the new “Melee” pistol stills would not be able to use their skills from a range of 900.[/quote]

Frankly it’s stupid. GW2 isnt a tabletop game where you can use such minutia in that way. TBH, this is hardly any different than calling a fully automatic machine gun a shotgun while ignoring kitten near everything about both weapons.

Oooh ooh ooh okay okay:

Sylvari seem to have teeth: are they made of bone? If so, do sylvari have a skeletal structure of some kind?

How long does it take cultural armor to grow? When it’s removed, can they put it back on or do they have to regrow it?

AFAIK, sylvari teeth and “bones” are actually wood, likely with density approaching that of black ironwood (almost 85 pounds per cubic feet) in the case of “warrior” sylvari.

and I’m already pushing the envelope of how many hours per day I can devote to the forums.

I apologize in advance for not quoting the questions before each answer, but that quickly became a logistical nightmare. Instead, I have called out the questioner by name so you know to whom I’m responding:

Fantastic of you to be sticking with us! On all of this, though- would it be easier for you if we had a format? Bullet points, numbers, something that lets you quickly tell the questions apart from all the rest of the back-and-forth we’ve got going?

That first one is just concept, though. Consider how far Zhaitan varied from its concept art, or Mordremoth from what we think was its.

To be fair, Zhaitan’s essentially a mass of corpses assembled into the shape of a dragon, where flesh and bone are probably mangled by magic into said shape. What makes you think he didnt look like the concept art at first, with the raising of Orr, but as it’s corruption/influence spread, also morphed into it’s last form before being defeated?

Primo definitely has the euro “archetype” look to him, though the fine details are definitely not the same.
