The only part that will have me spending more money is for collecting some of the gem store skins I have put off buying thus far. I might still put them off.

If we continue to get transmute charges through regular gameplay then I have no problem with giving me a pve version of the locker I have in spvp minus the actual armor in a slot and freedom of switching on a whim without cost.

However, if we do not continue to receive these “charges” through regular gameplay eg: dailies/map completion, then I will call foul and pull out another nail to hammer in the coffin I’ve been building for my playing time here.

Speaking of spvp…..I know somewhere sometime back I heard something about wearing pve armor in spvp and vice versa. If this is true, do we get to continue to swap around looks for free. Just a little confused about how that is going to play out. Maybe it will still be split, I dunno….hopefully.

Hmm, “all or nothing” seems like our thinking caps were taken off.

Going from interchangeable to having to use these sets as one item seems like were moving backward.

You giveth and taketh away….this time at the same time.

Why are they not skins just like the armor sets you sell on the same page?

Zeem’s and lordkrall’s last post are pretty much the meat and potatoes of my dual point of view on this.

Kitten’d if you do, Kitten’d if you don’t.

I think ultimately I am going to go with precedent on this, after all ….There is still a ticket vendor in the Heart of the Mist. You can still spend your glory while not being able to earn glory in the Heart of the Mist. You can still get a plethora of past living story currencies and spend them or spend those that you had saved in bulk but didn’t spend when event moved on.

You could even still spend some currencies not available anymore.

I can only really remember one currency that isn’t available anymore pve wise beyond the fortune scraps and that would be the captain comms.

Make them instanced events, and I agree with you.

if they could make 20-25 man (split up into groups of 4-5) , instanced versions of these type of bosses, I would be down with it

Twisted fight was so fun, but ruined because of how often it would fail because soo many people were just flat out terrible at dodging and learning simple warden mechanics.
If it was offered in an instanced version where me and guildies could setup nightly runs or something that would be fantastic…only guild missions atm to do something like this… bosses/raids would bring plenty of life into the game

Are you trying to destroy more content? Tequatl is deserted on most servers.

And you think, going to a low level zone, making the first encounter for newbies the most frustrating thing they have ever encountered in a MMO will help this game?

Only if the intention is suicide.

Pretty much agree with this.

Guild Wars had an alliance system. It was a band of Guilds who worked together basically providing a larger pool of players than what one guild could offer.

I think many of us wished that the system they had there, came here.

In all seriousness, only Tengu will be (if any) the new playable race we’ll ever see, none of the other races were ever set up to be playable regardless of how cool it may be.

Hylek are one of the lesser races, so are Grawl, Centaur, Skrit and the ragging Quaggan, all of those will hardly ever be playable guys, just live with it.

I have played quite a few MMO’s going back 14/15 yrs. One thing I have learned about ever evolving worlds in this medium is that nothing is ever set in stone and it all can be changed if it makes sense to do so. Basically never say never.

When Guild Wars launched, never thought I would see Charr allies, but we got Pyre as a hero. That was one step away from actually just playing him. Same could be said for Vex/Zhed or the monk dwarf Ogden.

I could easily see any of the so called lesser races come center stage. All it takes is for anet to run with it.

Why does it have to be a lore-based playable race instead of one something else. The Sylvari hid in isolation through all of GW1. We COULD have playable Camels perhaps!

I could certainly go with something new. Who knows what is beyond the three continents we know. A demon race. A lizard race. An insect race. Many possibilities.

As far as the Sylvari go…they are only 25 years old. The events of GW1 happened 250+ years ago. At least that’s what we know about the playable race of Sylvari. Since there seems to be other trees out there, you may be correct for other parts of the world, just not those born from the grove.

Someone mentioned the Margonites. Another race I wouldn’t mind playing as.

Yeah, expectations are reserved for the runes and sigils, award system specs, but would want:
…More Emotes
…Increase in weapon skills/weapons in general
…Build templates (doesn’t need to be armor/weapon inclusive, just builds would be fine with me)
…Dungeon tracker per character (for story, would like to know who needs what)
…Precursor acquisition beyond toilet/super secret squirrel hiding nuts rng drop

My poison was doing 108 a sec his was doing 84 a sec at the same time

The only way your poison and his poison could tick for damage at the same time would be if you were using different training dummies.

I’m not sure what your goal is, trying to spread misinformation like this. You’re either lieing on purpose for some sort of goal, or heavilly mistaken about how conditions work. It takes like, five seconds to test and secure that you’re wrong, are you sure you’re ACTUALLY testing and not just.. you know… pretending that you are?

Haven’t tested myself but the claim begs me to ask whether or not training dummies act as mobs/players in the open world/pvp do? Perhaps everyone and their mother can apply effects to them and count individually per character instead of like mobs/players in the open world/pvp do.

So, either he is fibbing, or telling the truth because training dummies are for personal testing or he is experiencing a latency issue where his friend placed a poison, then he placed a poison. The duration went up and ticked for his friend and then for him but because of latency he saw them both at the same time.

Wiki says that poison can stack 9times for duration, but since duration is rather short for many skills that apply it..maybe he doesn’t understand what he is seeing.

One stack of poison is shown. I hit character with a poison, my duration is added and takes over once the initial falls off. We may never see it fall off, I think that’s correct.

Why don't we ALL play berserker warriors?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Akari Storm.6809

I have a zerk war at cap and one in route, probably play them the least. Kind of have to be in the mood for easy feel of this class.

Every other class has the feel of actually having to work to get things done. I have to pay attention more I guess.

When Anet said they were getting rid of the Trinity and that every class could perform that role, I thought the that the roles would still be needed for encounters, but different classes would take them on.
Eg: Someone has to be the tank. Someone has to be dps. Someone has to be the healer. So a thief could tank. A necro could tank. A engie could tank. Doesn’t matter who, but you still needed one. Same goes for the other roles. This I thought would open up the pool for healers and tanks, of which many games suffer because 1. Those roles are dedicated to smaller number of classes. 2. Probably have a lower number overall playing those roles because they are only really needed in designed group content. Open world, you probably want to be a dps.

Instead what we got is that the only one role needed to be filled, DEEPS. The condition cap doesn’t help, so what’s left and probably better optimized, Zerks.

5 zerks =less time doing anything and everything.
5 tanks= can probably do content but…lol
5 condi=can probably do content but…lol
5 healers=can probably do content but…lol

Just the way the game is made. I personally like playing all roles in the trinity. Find them fun at different times. Kind of made me sad that you would totally throw out two playstyles to support just one.

Pvp here is a different beast though. 1v1 it all works if you can get good with it.

Side note: I prefer the gw hex/enchantment/condition/attribute/interupt system over the boon/condition/trait system here.

Also I think I would have rather have had dual system here. dps/healers. Have it be more like GW as you could get away with not having any tanks at all.

I also think having to rely on other players for certain things just provides a better experience in group play. If every class here had something special that they did to provide to the group I’d even be happy.

Sadly all we got was the guardian w/blocks and reflects, Mesmers with portals/reflects/time warps, thieves w/ stealth and maybe ele’s with auras. Everyone hands out the same boons, the same conditions (cept guard) and dps.

Semi-expansions via gemstore?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Akari Storm.6809

Akari Storm.6809

Don’t know how I feel about gem store content. I think from a players standpoint, buying content with in game gold via gem/gold conversion would be way to keep playing the game free, time spent earning gold not withstanding.

However, I think this would take a lot of money out of the pockets of Anet releasing content via real expansions that they can just charge for.

Earning items through the gem store version of content is a nice idea, but essentially they would probably make more with the current set up.

Added, we already have content coming in that is free. Would I want to change that? No. Permanent or no, it’s still content.

So, the simple approach in my mind is to do what they have been doing with the free stuff and release an actual expansion with added lands/armors/dungeons via a boxed version.

Smaller paid for content (that needed to be bought with real cash) always made me feel like I was being nickeled and dimed in other games. Every new dungeon is gonna cost, every new class is gonna cost, every new land is gonna cost. Throw it in large installments I say and get it over with.

The bell and the horn actually had that kind of controls (9 down, 0 up) even before the flute came out, so it’s actually the flute being out of line here.

However, the flute, compared to the other instruments, is one octave short – so the controls make sense. If you tried to apply that kind of controls to the other instruments (just one button to switch the octave) you would have no control over what octave you want to switch to (lower or upper octave).

I know exactly what you are talking about though. You have no idea how often I press the elite when using the flute trying to switch to the upper octave, especially when I played the bell or the harp before using the flute… It’s driving me nuts!

You are right, when I wrote this post hadn’t realized there were 3 octaves. Flowing in two directions with two buttons does seem more practical with 3 octaves.

Improvement to quaggan tonics

Akari Storm.6809

Suggestion: Split all tonics into two different skill sets. 1 used in pve/wvw and 1 used for costume brawl via town clothes.

Example:
1. If tonic is used while in regular pve toggle, you keep all skills and can move normally.

2. If tonic is used while in town clothes, you gain costume brawl abilities.

That’s what I would do anyways, kind of like the watchknight tonic.

If you can get a combat tonic in wvw it wouldnt be fair because you have to see the animations of the skills. So a PvE version would only be viable.

C,mon…there’s like 3 or 4 weapon wind up animations you need to know +healing skills for possible interrupts via knockbacks/pulls/or dazes. Majority of weapon skills are difficult to see if they have a special tell. Most things with combo fields are easy to see.

Besides those huge wind ups like Mesmer GS#2/#4 and warrior HB’s it’s already hard to tell what an asura is up to. So no, I don’t think fair is an issue in wvw.

I actually hadn’t even considered WvW though, not what I meant by " regular pve", implying that non regular pve=WvW. I meant that since you can use the town clothes option for costume brawl which isn’t really pve and is a separate pane, have one form of the tonic be just for that while having the contrast of that tonic version to be used while in combat with mobs.

I actually think town clothes should be used in the same fashion.

Town Clothes= pane with skins
Town Clothes weapons=Costume Brawl, weapons auto take you town clothes pane if you activate a costume brawl skill and is just a skin
Town Clothes being used in regular pve=Town Clothes skins being placed over regular armor.

Well, I too am tired of lame achieves. Specifically the dodging lamezers and lamezer scorch marks that is still there after it has left. Mainly due to instantly losing it every time I zone into the Breach w/e.

As far as achievements that rely on everyone else, I have given up on them. Open world anyone can join content w/ achievements and setting up personal overflows to actually get content done with like minded groups is just not working out for me.
Everyday I play this game, I miss traditional instanced raiding more and more. I even miss 8man parties from GW1.

I’m kind of over this event already. I have my cores/helm/title/heirloom items.

I could care less about taking prestigious items from GW and bringing them here as this game has it’s own set of rules. However, I did get upset when they took and rehashed the Fellblade skin into the 1hander. Those items should be left alone.

What I dislike about the approach so far though is placing these weapons skins into lottery boxes instead of just selling Black Lion Tickets or eliminating the chest/keys altogether and just sell the skins.

OR…God forbid give us some new content where we actually get new armor and weapon skins. Let’s face it…crafting sucks. Unless it is an integral part of the game, it has never been great in any game.

Anyone else realize GW1 is the better series?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Akari Storm.6809

For me….

GW1 goes down as one of the greats. Certainly top 5 amongst all of the multiplayer games I have spent any time in.

GW2 has a long way to go for me. I think the reason I’m still here is because of how much I liked GW1. I simply want to see Tyria grow.

I will say that the open world “not so much zone party instancing” is more to my liking than what GW1 offered. I like the fact that I don’t have/need henchies and heroes.
I like that there is swimming and jumping. I like the art direction of the world in general. I like the feel of combat here a bit more, probably like it better than most games. Hardly any rooting skills.

But, soooooooooooooooo many things I dislike.
Armor sets. Pvp and stuns/immobilize. Zerg play. No roles. Group play not really supported. No benefits to being in a guild. One pvp mode. Terrible loot system.
One new weapon set since launch(SAB weapons), everything else has been GEM STORE RNG….apply this sentence to armor also ascended skin not withstanding.

Conditions. Being a peon in story. Scarlet. Precursors. Crafting in general. Mystic forge.
No Guild Halls yet. No real build diversity. So many utilities that never get used because they suck. Elites that are actually useful have the short CD’s and the gimmick “oh hey um, it looks cool but actually doesn’t do anything” elites have these super long CD’s.
Weapons skills (not having many options). Example, I have almost no reason to ever own a sword because it pales in comparison to other weapons across the 5 classes that use it. Not for hitting anything anyway besides maybe 1or2 skills here or there.

I take the good with the bad though. I haven’t lost interest here yet so I haven’t gone anywhere too far for too long since I started here. This has become my regular MMO.
When I lose interest or find something that suits me better, I’ll just go.

Update on Capes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Akari Storm.6809

Akari Storm.6809

I agree, if the only thing that is holding this back is the fact that they clip with Charr, then do what I expect to be an acceptable compromise. Give the Charr something else. A side shall, a tunic, a scarf, a half cloak…something. Give all of the models who can wear a cape the option to do so.

The only problem I have with making it completely racial outside of Charr is because I of my personal stake in this. For my set up, the characters that I mostly want a cape for aren’t human.

So much armor in this game (most games too) have clipping issues that with the right toggles or optional other pieces, I don’t think the community as a whole would be against just adding the cape option.

Will Tengu Race ever be playable?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Akari Storm.6809

Akari Storm.6809

i don’t think another race will ever be implemented. it would be way too much work to modify every existing armor towards another body structure.

Perhaps that is the reason why they haven’t been released yet. Maybe that is what is being worked on. We have no way of knowing either way unless Anet decides to shine some light. All we can say is they haven’t been released yet.

And to all the naysayers, Have faith. Until it’s released and done well or not so good, anything is possible in MMO land. Shouldn’t ever use the word NEVER unless it’s set in stone. MMO’s are an ever evolving medium, so anything can change.

Option to turn off leg/butt capes on armor...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Akari Storm.6809

Akari Storm.6809

The main butt cape I dislike is the HotW heavy male. Not because I dislike butt capes, but because this particular one has a split right up the back that makes human characters look like they have no butt at all. All you see is air then torso.

Also, quite a few heavy armors…mainly that one (HotW) make it seem like humans have a stick figures below the waist. Chest is well proportioned, waist to knee is not.

Sylvari have a different issue. That (HotW) armor at the waist kind of sticks out and then expands wide a lil. Many armors for Sylvari do that at the waist, poke out and the chest armor doesn’t line up. Every other race those pieces line up, clipping not withstanding. Added: Sylvari (heavy mostly) chest armor in general is weirdly proportioned except for 3 armors. Inquest male heavy chest on Sylvari is an example of how I would like all the armors to fit.

Back to buttcapes. I am usually a fan of butt capes/capes in general/cloaks/robes. The very few here aren’t bad at all. I would like more to be honest.

Do I think Anet should waste time on adding a toggle for just that piece? No and Yes.
No, because I’d rather have them working on other things…
Yes, if they were to give this treatment to more than just what this thread suggest. I wish every piece of armor had layered toggles. Just like I wish every piece of every armor could be dyed individually.

Still better than my experience. I put around 800 hours into this awful game and could count the number of rares I got on one hand. Oh and I got zero exotics, of course zero ascended, and no precursors. No minis either. This is the most unrewarding garbage I’ve ever played.

that’s what happens when an entire reward system is designed around getting players to use the trading post as a gold sink and to encourage gem purchases and conversions.

Having a really hard time taking this seriously.

Not me. 4k hours, 16k ap with slayer achieves almost complete. I run dungeons. Do metas. Do living story events. Have many 80’s. Open jp chest.

With that, have had 1 exotic in the past month. 2 precursors since launch from the mystic forge.

Can’t farm anything reliably in this game beyond:
1. Low tiered mats
2. Karma
3. Dungeon tokens
4. Gold
5. ore/veggie/tree nodes.

Don’t remember the last time I seen a lodestone drop.
Want to craft anything? Easier to buy items from TP than it is to get anything in a reasonable amount of time and that isn’t with any certainty.

I personally like farming for particular items in the games I play. Here, I have to farm gold to get the items I want from the TP. In most games, a creature will most of the time net the item needed for crafting. Here, that item is the rare drop whereas a grey/blue/green item is the norm.

A big part of that problem I think is that the mats drop less because they are used for legendaries.

Ascended weapons is probably the only thing done right when it comes to the materials. Beyond the time-gates, I can get every mat needed at a reasonable pace. Exotics on the other hand, I can’t say I want 30 destroyer lodestones, 100 charged lodestones, 250 vicious claws, 250 ectos and go out and get them without getting the TP involved.

Doing that without the TP would take a ludicrous amount of time.

Soulbound being phased out?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’ve never liked the soul binding thing in the majority of MMO’s I’ve played. It made sense for Items dropped during raids I guess, but bind on equipped seems like the game tells you that the item is worthless once you have no use for it. Vendor, breakdown or throw away.

The GW system was a little better than this one imo. Most weapons could be used by all of your characters or used and then sold until you went through the act of soul binding (customizing), which gave an additional 20% to the weapons damage. You could add and subtract prefixes/inscriptions at will without binding an item.

Agree here.

Show the weight of the situation. NPC’s everyday lives were annihilated. If the refugee portion of the Living story is any indication, NPC’s have been given the treatment of what I think would be a “at the very least” reaction to what they went through. Logical and feasible reactions to their situations. Some people would flee. Some would fight. Some would end up in South Sun with new lives.

Continue that train of thought. Patch in the holes with more information. Filling up the blanks with as much atmosphere as possible is in my mind a plus to story telling in this format.

One thing so far that has impressed me with game overall is the attention to detail. I go through periods where I just power through zones not paying any real attention to what the NPC’s say, what they do. Sometimes I even do events without actually even knowing anything about the purpose of it. I just see [Group Event] and dps/kill until I see Gold/Silver/Bronze and some xp/karma.

But, then there is the time when I just stop to take it all in. The dialogue, the view, the cause and effect and the motivation of actions set into motion. What’s great is that a lot of times…all these things tell these nice little stories that make the world feel like it has some depth and layers. Not saying these stories are what I want and are “R” or “M” rated, in fact many seem very “G” to me, but I appreciate that it’s there. The little things matter.

I say if I can wrap my head around it, then why not? A memorial for those lost in what seems like one of the larger tragedies in Tyria to date seems like a pretty believable step in the process. Hope we see this down the road.

Akari Storm.6809

Truthfully, 150 players in a map should be able to save 10 ppl. I’m doing 25-30 almost every run and we usually end up at the 500-700 mark.

Would have been a good idea to have a title for persons saved.

I bet if the upper echelons of the reward tiers had a integral part in obtaining the meta achievement, saving citizens would not be a issue. It would be a group/zone wide effort person to person.

Events like this should resemble dungeons. You get an end chest, but you also get the guaranteed tokens. Take SAB trib for instance. You are collecting baubles and also getting a token for completion.

Scarlet Invasion/Escape from LA is an example of how not to do things. The End Reward must be greater than the gold you can earn leading up to The End Reward.

Totally agree. One time have I seen a great effort only to find out the counter was bugged. Majority of the time we hit around 5-600 citizens saved.

I think the zerg:
1. doesn’t know about end rewards
2. don’t care about end rewards.

Seen this sort of thing during the Scarlett Invasions. “Let’s get to the aetherblades so we can farm champs”, instead of actually getting to the end to complete the event.

Might have something to do with the rewards and of course gold per hour. I bet if there were a event end only armor skin, this wouldn’t be an issue.

The one thing treadmill games have going for them, guaranteed loot. RNG still plays a role, but you still have ample shots at getting upgrades/sidegrades/alt gear/role gear and the focus is on actually completing the things you do with gold being the lowest thing to worry about.

I wonder sometimes about this game.
GW1 had horizontal progression. skins and skills
Treadmill games like EQ/WoW/Aion/Rift/Swtor have vertical progression.

GW2 pretty much has neither. It’s all about gold. Don’t get me wrong, I like gold in most games as it gives me the freedom to get some of the things that require it, but I don’t want it to be the only reason I play outside of fun.

I hope in the future anet designs content that is meant to be completed. Marionette I think is a pretty good example even though the end reward there was pretty crappy on the whole.

I’m thinking that if you had a counter working backward things would shape up a little better and faster.
Example: Lions Arch Citizens still alive. 5000. the more citizens die, the less rewards you get. You can rez them and help them escape, but if they are dead/downed at the end, that counts for a death.

I usually weigh my options when thinking about rezzing someone. Will I die? Too many mobs? Elite caliber mobs on site? If I can manage a rez without being killed then I will do so.

I have to admit, the zerg mentality going on during this LA thing is pretty atrocious. I think it is focused on bags personally. Doing the escorts more so than actually getting to the highest reward tier by actually saving scattered NPC’s. So similar to the Scarlett invasions where players would just farm champs instead of trying to complete the event.

If you take time away from that by being killed, then you can stay dead or wp is what it feels like.

I like the atmosphere of this event, just too many don’t have the end in sight. I could have done without the escort events personally and would rather have had us saving NPC’s from mobs in events similar to the miasma versions. Once saved enough you get a large event at the end that yields something more appealing than a few champ boxes.
The incentive should be on getting to the highest tier. No different than completing a dungeon or killing the marionette.

Split the zerg up with 2 mega events at the end. That way players falling would be more likely to be together and could actually save one another.

The escorts leading up to the wurm event is a perfect example. Players go down, you have to res them or fear losing entire shot at an attempt at wurms. The marionette was another good example, rezzing players increases your chances for success.

Flute #9slot has a toggle between higher and lower octaves.
Flute Elite slot is a break

Harp #9slot = higher octave
Harp Elite slot = lower octave

After becoming familiar with the flute I found it kind of weird to go from the easy toggle to the two different keys for the same function.

My suggestion is to mirror the harp with the flute in a uniform fashion.

Harp #9slot would be a toggle leaving the elite blank or perhaps give it a new function.

Hmm I think that the explosion will create a mystic black hole that will suck in every single piece of equipment and crafting material still left in the world. Even the ones we have in ours banks and the ones we are wearing. After that it will spit out one Major Rune of Rage and disappear.

So, um ….naked foam party in DR after this debacle?

Well to be fair, the wiki does say city zone for Dominion of Winds and it links to another page for Dominion of Winds (Area). That means for me that the city is on the island and the area of the same name surrounds it. The walls are on the borders at designated locations.

The walls were built by the tengu, so they know what lands they hold. May not lead directly to the city Dominion of Winds, but certainly leads to the “AREA” Dominion of Winds.

Besides, haven’t players already been inside the gates through portaling and glitching. Pretty sure there are many youtube vids of players in the zone.

On topic. Depending on what threat is posed to the tengu on a “sooner” than " later" basis(they haven’t really taken the dragon threat seriously thus far, that’s a later danger as the threat hasn’t encroached on their lands….much…well, beyond destroyers that is)

I’d say that if the threat to their race has grown to point where it’s undeniable that they would take up the sword in force once again to join our fight. Maybe the destroyers will break the walls. Maybe a dragon minion will assassinate their emperor and steal some powerful relic. Maybe some old prophecy will be realized and the tengu had to wait for a certain time period the lend help.

Beyond the real world facts that their story/environments/armors/animations may not be ready, all we can do is speculate.

Kimeekat: I agree

UnseeN: GW1, well…remember the ghostly hero’s planted around the game to include prophecies? They were Elonian and just as large as Norn. They may have had a tribe that traveled North or may have been apart of a tribe that traveled south. Being as I could do that my self on foot, I don’t think it’s too far fetched that it may have occurred over the span of history that the GW universe has.

So many directions you can go with made up lore. Anything can happen or even have happened.

I’m not really a fan of the majority of armor in this game. Male armor versions that is.

Don’t know if this is sad or not, but I can count on one hand how many heavy boots I like…all of which can’t be used with the very few leggings I like.

The armor sets of GW1 was actually one of the reasons I chose to play GW2. Armor sets are always 1/3 of the reason I play any MMO with the other 2 being decent enough PvE and PvP. Doesn’t have to be stellar, it just has to be entertaining enough to hold my attention. PvE and PvP so far has held my attention, but the armor sets for the most part have been a huge let down as far as hitting upon points I like.

I am thinking they should start designing sets more with classes in mind and go from there. I will say that I like most of the gem armors or pieces of them. There just aren’t that many sets in game that scream I must have them. Certainly very few that fit my idea of each class. None of the sets here shout the word iconic in comparison to the plethora of MMO’s on the market. IMO ofc.

RNG and Grind in GW2 is not that bad

“In most games, you go out and you have really fun tasks occasionally that you get to do and the rest of the game is this boring grind to get to the fun stuff. I swong a sword. I swong a sword again. Hey! I swong it again and that’s great. We just don’t want players to grind in Guild Wars 2. No one enjoys that, no one finds it fun, we want to change the way that people view combat.”

Anet must find their own game horribly boring as what they described as no fun is what most of their game is made of.
They said other games have boring grind and they want to make their game fun.

Do the math:

Grind = boring = no fun
Therefore:
No grind = not boring = fun

Now to say, that there is a bit less grind than in other games is:

A little bit less grind = A little bit less boring = a little bit fun

A really fun game they said…

In Anets defense, the quote you put up looks to me like the context was speaking about combat.

There are 3 truly horrible grinds in this game for me:
1. Spvp rank grind. Scaling between brackets pains me every time I look at it.
2. WvW title grind. Scaling between brackets pains me every time I look at it + majority extend to numbers no one will ever reach.
3. Legendary required material grind. Game forces me to farm gold because I can’t realistically farm the materials myself because of dismal drop rates. Sad that it’s easier to just farm gold and be forced to use the TP.

Loot wise…almost every other game I have played have had better loot systems….that includes GW1. Simply put….if I want to farm an item, I go out and farm it. Can’t be done here. Killing in the open world has devolved into champ only kills and not really doing any events cept the metas here and there. I’m finding it hard to gather motivation to pve at all.

Side note: Wish there was a way to grind laurels. Right now I would accept it. They are just tied to too many things that I would use them for.

Makes sense to me. I’m not even sure why they put badges in the ap chest to begin with, but hey…it was nice to have the extra surprise. What this did was make it so that players didn’t have to do anything in WvW though.

Now you do again. Just like you had to before badges were put in those ap chest. Chickens came home to roost.

Agree with others…30 is pretty simple to get to. Non issue for me.

I’m a practical person.

Wurm event once actual great wurms appear turns into a clusterphack of a mess. Stuns here, stuns there…stuns everywhere. Double stunned. Add to that the overall worst condition in the game imo….Immobilized!!! The you have the great wurm being invulnerable with a shorter than short burn phase.

Me being a practical person, I think I can say that with all the moving parts to this fight that this is a fight that will be hardly done with success. It’s pretty easy to see that. It was pretty easy to see with Teq. Anet has the metrics, I don’t. I would like to know what main servers are killing these bosses.

It’s been my exp so far that main servers aren’t. It’s been my exp that players are using overflows to do these things to maximize coordination. At least for TEQ post week 2. Players were killing on main and overflows when revamped Teq dropped mainly for pride in getting the content done. How I saw it anyways. Now it doesn’t seem to get done on main servers…at least not on my densely populated cough..think T1 server.

Let’s face it, this update is about Marionette which to me is just the right amount of difficulty to be had in a meta event such as this. Wurms on the other hand is imo a forgettable boss type. The difficulty is in all the working parts. Too many phases. Too many extra mobs. This fight probably isn’t rewarding enough for completion. In my opinion, the fight is a mess. Everyone running around like chickens with no heads.

I personally could do without and it appears that more and more are coming to that conclusion as attendance for the wurm event is getting less and less at times not close to server reset every day so far.

Hmmm, to me….these one boss events don’t compare to the great instanced raids I have been a part of in years past.

Instanced Raids have been:
1. Several in number
2. Large scale party allowance
3. Very coordinated
4. Role supported
5. Nice rewards (depending on how loot is distributed)
6. If failed…can continue tweak strat until group gives up. If not a tiered raid, can move on to other bosses.
7. Weekly timers have been the norm so have all week to do several bosses if not done in time allotted for group.

GW2 Open World boss are:
1. Either too easy like dragons or too hard like Teq or just right like marionette.
2. On daily spawn timers. Spawn several times daily with character lockouts on loot.
3. Have mostly terrible unusable loot. More often than not I’m using drops to gain MF%, gain a couple of silver or increase my dragonite /bloodstone dust collections.
4. Cannot guarantee that you will even attempt these events with friends or guildies.

GW2 metas to me are more akin to Open World bosses in other games. Not on par with actual Raiding systems that have several bosses inside one instance. Does GW2 need that type? Not sure, I personally would like it though. The game wouldn’t be hurt by their addition imo.

Should any of these Open World bosses be instanced? For me, it depends on the difficulty. If players are using the overflow system to create an instanced version, that should tell you something. It means that the content is too hard for the uncoordinated.

Most metas=crap rewards for being easy with no real need for coordination.

New Teq=bad for the uncoordinated, rewards seem better than most meta events. Has been for me anyways thus far on average.

Marionette and the other Living World Mega events= imo ofc, have been just the right amount of difficulty with a nice balance of rewards for effort.

Wurms= do I really need to say it?

So far it’s been Open World Bosses are good for players playing together, not so great for friends and guild mates playing together. All in all bring on the Marionette versions of open world stuff and instance the Wurm difficult stuff. If you can make the distinction between the coordination needed that is.

You could even do as someone suggested and have two versions. One instanced for guild/friend groups to be highly coordinated and one easier and tuned appropriately for the casual get along “I know no one here” groups.

POLL: Do you like the new Watchwork Pick?

I love the new mining pick. I bought it because I wanted it and realized after oh hey, sprokets!

I can use the sprokets to make myself armor and stuff but as the insignias/inscriptions and finished products are account bound, I don’t see the issue.

The sprockets isn’t the issue. The issue is that this item seems like a tester, a precursor for things to come, a precedent being set and we are the focus group.

Some of us unknowingly, some of us apparently know and don’t like it and some of us know, but live in the present and don’t see the big deal or future repercussions for actions made now.

Some of us know and accept anything given to them. Some of us don’t see where this could head and frankly couldn’t care less.

Some of us wishes that this was actually a full on p2w model and support all efforts made in that direction. Some of us wish that this was a sub model and don’t support the cash shop at all.

Anyway, once again…the issue isn’t the sprockets. That part of the equation could be anything.

I’d love to know where people are buying iPhones with GW2 gold.

chuckle

Now that would be interesting…..

But still, in all seriousness, it was for comparative purposes only. We find such actions acceptable in other (sometimes more important) aspects of our lives. Sometimes to the extent of being extremely costly and yet, something similar (and relatively minor) occurs in the game and people blow a gasket? Its ludicrous.

When posters throw out real world comparisons, I throw out straw men arguments.

Ascended items can be obtained in game. Down the road Anet makes a set that is gem store only that adds a +33% to precursor drop rate. 6months later, a newer set comes along that adds +33% to precursor drop rate and +33% to salvage ecto.

Doesn’t make your character stronger, just richer in the long run. Who wouldn’t buy those sets. How many who bought the first set would be kittened off? Convenience aside, how many players who crafted to 500 and waited 32days to get a complete set would be kittened that you could buy a functionally equal set stat wise that has overall more appeal because of the bonuses?

I think more are wondering how far Anet will take this with other items and not really upset about the pick and the sprocket drops. That’s my opinion though, I could easily be wrong and in fact I hate saying things like “more(implying groups of people)” or “most people” , or “many think”. I can only really speak for myself.

I have a tiny problem with the poll. It doesn’t really describe my feelings on this item.
I’m pretty sure that the poll is about the functionality of the pick, but until that’s 100% clear…I can’t vote in it.

With that said, I like the fact that it has it’s own cosmetic. All the infinite items appeal to me that way. I like the infinite convenience of all of these items.

I dislike the additional bonus. I dislike that this is even an issue. I dislike that decisions like this make it out the door from what had to be a few meetings. If flamekissed armor is any indication, you can’t treat your customers like they are stupid. I dislike that this could lead to more items like this one with different bonuses.

So, I will take a position based on my dislikes and not purchase this item because I do not want the bonuses added to these items unless they are on all of such items across the board. Mainly due to fair play.

Sooner or later enough will be enough and you are going to do something you can’t come back from or fix in time if we keep traveling down this road. Starting to become a working theme here. In the past I have chalked up complaints of MMO features to be the vocal minority, but in this game it is becoming common talk walking around my chat window. I feel like I’m constantly being bombarded (in game and not just the forums) with complaints about everything from spvp, WvW, crafting, living story, dungeons, gold making etc etc etc.

A wise man once said to me that you shouldn’t focus on the straw that broke the camels back because there’re a million other straws underneath it. I guess to me, I would stop dropping straws on camels. Side note: straws usually look like straws.

The AP Leaderboard Sucks; Let's Fix It

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Akari Storm.6809

Akari Storm.6809

I’ve said it before way back when that a leaderboard tracking AP makes no sense what so ever to me when all PVE portions of AP take practically no skill what so ever. How can that be competition? What type of person are you if you consider that it means or is supposed to mean competition?

PvP leaderboards totally make sense to me because players are actually playing against one another having a direct impact on each others teamwork, tracking how successful you and your teammates are. The leaderboard here doesn’t even tell the whole story or stat track everything in a bout like say a game like Battlefield 2/3/4 does.
Like Guardian for instance:
PvP kills with greatsword/shield/torch.
or even all players:
Captures taken. Orbs scored. Trebs demolished. Guild Lords killed. Monsters killed.

Only way I see having the AP leaderboard sponsor some competition beyond the pvp/wvw ap acquired is by adding a specific category that tracks a new type of dungeon similar to the Challenge Missions in GW1. Maybe solo dungeons. Either that or a new category that adds challenge to the current dungeon system. Tracking time for full clears or something.

I’m sitting at like 15.2k ap. I personally could care less about who is above or below that because ap doesn’t really say if you are good or not, just says you attempted and finished a particular part of the game at least once. I for one have done 99% of the jump puzzles only once each. I hate them and am terrible at them. Does me having all the AP from them make me good at doing them? A resounding no screams in my mind.

I wouldn’t mind some in depth stat tracking though. I would browse through a list or two to find out who has done Arah p4 the most. COE story the most. Who has killed the most ambient creatures and with what weapon. Who has dived from a certain goggle spot the most. Who has killed the most of “insert mob type”. Not for competition, just to see player tendencies.

Skilled content needs some pretty defined parameters that actually sponsor competition if I want to consider it a competition. AP leaderboard and the majority of the task to obtain ap , to me, does not.

Refund on Molten Alliance Mining Pick

Nobody is entitled to refunds. In the real world products change and have new features added or prices reduced. It would be chaos if those that bought older versions were entitled to discounts or trades. If you bought an iPad for $500 and then months later it was bundled with a free travel keyboard and a price of $399, you would not be entitled to a refund or swap.

Why on earth would you bring up the real world and try to make this seem like that. Real world is the real world. Game world is the game world.

With that thinking they could start selling upgraded versions of skills in the gem store. I bet your view would change then. They never said current skills were best in slot either.

Dangerous precedent: Watchwork Pick

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Akari Storm.6809

Akari Storm.6809

I’ve been watching this topic since it started, and after thinking about it while reading and keeping up with it all, I want to say the following:

1) There is no such thing as Pay to Win. Pay to Compete would be more accurate, since even if you do shell out the money for whatever, there will be someone else that shelled out money for the same thing, so you’ll still have competition with whomever also paid for the same boons. I’ve actually played a game where in order to be at a competitive level, you had to pay money. It was simply impossible to be competitive without doing so.

2) Unless I missed some post or advertisement somewhere, there has never been any mention of previous infinite gathering tools being forever the “best in slot” tools. In fact, I would say it would have been foolish for them to have ever said that. If anyone made that assumption, then it was a mistake on the buyer’s part… not ANet’s. I don’t believe anyone should get a refund at all. I could see being able to purchase an upgrade for their existing tools so they are on par with what is now there, but that’s about as far as I would deem necessary.

3) This item is hardly a game-breaking item. There are, in fact, other means of getting the sprockets,. You could:

a) Get a sprocket node from the LS event currently underway
b) Make friends with someone that has one of these nodes and use theirs
c) Buy the sprockets from the Trading Post
d) Get the pickaxe

Multiple ways of getting it. Not a broken mechanic.

I’ve played several MMORPGS and several other games, and one thing is consistent, regardless of the game. The forum goers often cry foul and talk about the "evil money-grubbing company that funds it, without taking into consideration one fundamental principle: They are in business to make money… all of them.

It would be naive to think that they would put the infinite tools up only once, alienating newer players who would not have the opportunity to buy the infinite tools. It would also be naive to assume that they would add the same tools over and over again without upgrading the tools at some point in time, since eventually, they wouldn’t make enough money on the tools to warrant posting them, since most of the people interested in the items would already have bought them (I’m making an assumption that the further along the game goes, the fewer new players enter the game, which is pretty consistent throughout all MMORPGs.

I don’t feel a disservice has been made with this item… at all.

Question? Who in their right mind is going to purchase the old infinites if the new ones have bonuses? Anet will never sell another molten pick.

I would go so far to say that players will continue to buy character slots and with more characters, more of these things get sold. They don’t necessarily have to be new to the game. They are convenience items after all.

Many in this thread just don’t get it. I’d be willing to bet though that if Anet had not upgraded existing Legendaries to the Now Stat adjustable versions, then these people would understand the real issue here.

Akari Storm.6809

Now the issue here, once again, is the precedent. Next year it will be a new pick with 100% chance at finding rare drops. Not very creative and ultimately an alienated player base is created.

Sorry, Volkon, I suspect you will never see the issue of a snowball effect here and how marketing relations are easily crumbled in the face of consumers.

Sorry, your hyperbolic extrapolation of the matter makes it a little laughable to take the argument seriously. I’m sure you understand why the italicized portion really needs to be rephrased.

The issue brought up is the precedent. However, it should be noted there was a decent idea here which is not terribly unbalancing.

But what should be more of interest is not the precedent itself. It’s how people on one side of this are looking at the precedent and immediately deciding ArenaNet cannot be trusted to know where the line is between “pay for a minor advantage” and “pay for an exclusive advantage”.

More alarming than the precedent is the observation of how the people posting here are dead certain the people making this game have either no idea of what they’re doing, or don’t care.

People will be people and we’ve seen it before, time and time again, in every game, in real life. History constantly repeating itself over and over again. Warnings go out and then when something comes everyone acts like they are surprised.

I guess that is “Alarming”.

Bring back the -RP- to MMORPG

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Akari Storm.6809

Akari Storm.6809

I think your idea of RPG is not their idea of RPG, the rpg that is meant when they talk about “RPG” isnt really what you mean. There hasnt been too many mmorpgs that are based around, or built for your idea of RP.

the RPG here, is like the RPG in final fantasy, secret of mana, dragon warrior, baldur’s gate, neverwinter nights, etc.

Now im not saying mmorpgs are opposed to the existence of RP, but generally very little in them is built with such things in mind. Probably what RPers need to do, is create a new term for RPG, and then massively push for more games built with this type of play in mind.
keep in mind, some of the things RPers would want go against what most RPGs are based on. RPers really want a world full of props, with very little actually set in stone, that way they can fit the world to their needs, and play whatever roles are needed.

Haven’t played many MMORPG’s have you? Game mechanics aside, I think the majority of MMORPG’s, at least majority of most well know and successful triple A versions have at least acknowledged that there is a RP crowd playing their games.

RP servers with naming rules and an interactive environment is the baseline of what you find. Guild Wars 2 has neither. Marriage systems have been in the majority of fantasy versions. Not in Guild Wars 2. Open World combat and dueling that many RPers would use in many versions, not in Guild Wars 2. The ability to inspect character sheets to see actual RP gear and items in many versions.

Even City of Heroes had a self written bio that players could read while inspecting one another. I’ve remember reading some pretty great backgrounds there.

I will also say that it’s been my experience that sandboxes lend themselves more to RP than the themeparks out there. GW2 is a themepark so that’s actually a built in strike.

Let’s face it, GW1 or GW2/Arenanet has never been about RP. If the players want it, you kind of have to do what you have done thus far and do it yourself.

Next thing you know we are going to have cash shop weapons that specifically add a huge chance to drop precursors. But it won’t matter, because you can convert gold to gems! You know how stupid that sounds?

The point a few are strumming home and that I agree with is that it doesn’t matter what the 20% is for, it could be anything and it shouldn’t be there.

Wow, never played that game but that vid of the character looks decently robust compared to here. I did play Aion though and that one was probably one of the better ones that I have toyed around with.

More options is always better in my book. Lends to more individuality and personality being put into each character I think.

Same could be said about the emote situation. Even GW1 had many more. Wouldn’t mind some more being put in. Something like the air instruments from GW1, Audible emotes like in other games. If they really wanted to get crazy with it, put in dance routine that can be shared between all races….something that works better than the book consumable they have now, eg;
racial: /dance =racial dances we have now
racial1: /dance1= each race gets part of a dance routine that looks best when performing together with each of the other races.

Back to topic: I know since launch they have added hairstyles and face options so I think that Anet would like us to have more options within their particular system which actually isn’t all that different from the first game cept now you have body types.

Wouldn’t mind some more tattoo options between the races. That scar and hair feature in the vid would do wonders for me here.

I think the blocks this game was built on was not an entirely new game but a continuation of the first. The combat, traits/skill system and even the art is a bit different from the first game, but I can definitely see where the games are similar.

Wishful thinking:

Change immobilize to chills. Intensify what chill can do. Duration and such.

New Root system with new skills/traits that have actual animations like the ranger elite. These roots are to take a player out of the game for it’s duration unless they:
1. Use a stun breaker.
2. Take enough damage that fills up a root meter. Once full it breaks the root. That would account for all of the AOE damage going around.

Not sure how I would make stability work with this root system.

On topic. One stack is where I currently would like it to be.
