It’s really interesting to read the various thoughts on the story and the role that we, as players, played in the update. We’ve highlighted this thread (and a few others) so that the developers can see the various opinions about the Living World updates.
I sure hope you devs have a thick skin when it comes to the forums. It seems like no matter what you guys do, there will be people complaining about it.
I liked the stealth. It was a great change of pace.
And it was definitely more exciting than rooms filled with generic enemies to kill just like the last 10,000 enemies you’ve killed in the past.
One cliffhanger after another, without even resolving the previous one. Episode 8 had better resolve all of this, or I’m done. This pacing and drip feeding of the story is just inept.
Yes this last living story really disappointed me for this very reason. To leave us with such a huge cliffhanger of caithe stealing the egg and then to not advance that story at all and instead focus on something completely different was frustrating.
It reminded me of Lost, the TV show.
I will forgive A-net if they revisit the egg next update, but if we have to go a whole month and a half without any advancement to the story after that cliffhanger, I’ll be very annoyed.
I enjoyed playing as Caithe with her new skills. It was a refreshing change of pace from my usual characters that I play as.
I liked that I had a plethora of new skills to learn and strategize, and I actually had to think out the best way to use Caithe, instead of running in with my usual builds and killing enemies the same way I’ve been killing them for years.

Yes, please.
Cutscenes should be skippable after viewing them for the first time.
Bump. Is there any definitive explanation on this bug? Two people here are saying that its only a tooltip bug, and two people are saying it affects the actual damage too.
I got a little revelation while I was replaying The World Summit instance for achivements … do you guys remember during the vision you receive, we see The Shadow of the Dragon flying around some ruinous towers in the clouds and everything is all golden-yellow?
Yeah, I found an area matching that description: A musraat city. From the GW2 wiki page on the mursaat:
“In 1070 AE, during the charr invasion, an exiled Krytan named Saul Boltof stumbled upon a city of massive towers reaching into the heavens—a mursaat city. Saul, awed by its denizens, returned to Kryta a changed man, and before long he and his White Mantle took power”
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mursaat
Also, in Guild Wars 1, the mursaat dressed in all gold. Same color as the vision and the towers. Taking this into consideration, I think there might be some ruins of a mursaat city out there in the maguuma wastes, just waiting to be discovered.
Some of the achievement chests gave PvP skins. With the Wardrobe, you gained the ability to use those skins in PvE as well.
Ah, okay. Thank you.
Whoops, I shoulda set this as a Q&A topic, but I forgot and it looks like I can’t change it.
So my engineer is currently set up with Stalwart Shoulders, since they look pretty good on a charr (they don’t float over the shoulders like most charr shoulder guards do), and they have a collar, which is cool. Pic is right here:
http://puu.sh/d5gkI/4f0d5bde80.jpg
I was trying to figure out where I got this thing, since they look so different from most shoulder guards. I looked on the wiki for answers and apparently, the entire Stalwart armor set, except for the chest piece, is unobtainable.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Stalwart_armor
It says here you used to be able to get the armor through PvP, but I don’t play PvP! I must have gotten it some other way, but I am not sure how. Does anyone know how to get this armor?

With the recent nerf to Air Blast (increasing its windup time) I feel like its now nearly impossible to reliably extend the burning duration dealt from Flame Jet, since the burning duration is so short to begin with. I’ve been relying on other ways of inflicting burning before using Air Blast, but does anyone else feel like Flame Jet could use just a little more burning duration?
A friend of mine got the dog in his first 100 bags.
They be hatin, he be lolin.
This is a quick little doodle comic I drew, something that inspired me since I recently rolled a ranger. I made it a bit user-friendly so someone who doesn’t play guild wars can still get the joke.
http://ausfer.deviantart.com/art/Guild-Wars-2-Unconditional-Love-491345965
Please forgive my lack of drawing skills. I can’t even draw human (or asura!) faces so I feel like I need to stick to charrs for now.
I literally have not used this skill, ever. I feel so bad for my pet!
I almost rushed out to buy the gem store item Noble Count outfit but I stopped myself when I realized I couldn’t combine it with the top hat that I already own.
Now we have a top hat, a monocle, and a rather distinguished suit, but none of these items can be worn at the same time! What gives? My norn’s handlebar mustache drooped at the disappointing revelation, and it took nearly a full tin of Dapper Dan to get it back up to snuff. I am sure that veritable leagues of extraordinary gentlemen from all across Tyria would love to wear these items all at the same time.
Okay, joking aside, I seriously think there should be a recipe to combine the Top Hat and Monocle headwear pieces, like how the Dry Top’s adventure scarf and spectacles can be combined into the adventure’s mantle. And this top hat/monocle combo should be able to be worn along with the Noble Count outfit.
Also, can we expect a walking cane some time in the future? Perhaps implemented as a toy that gives you new walking and idle animations?
I am sure this is old news to most people who have owned the game for a while, but I just rolled a ranger for the first time and I am really disappointed by my options for pets.
Why is it that we as rangers can get many mundane animals such as moas, pigs, wolves, dogs, and ect, but very few of the more exotic, cooler animals? I want to tame a raptor, or a minotaur, or a gryphon, or a skale, or a skelk! What I don’t want is is the redundancy of 5 different moas. And I don’t think its particularly exciting to tell a pig to charge into battle.
Has there ever been word about this by Anet? Any hint that there may be more tamable creatures in future content updates?

I don’t know how long this bug has been around since it’s been forever since I’ve used a flamethrower (thanks for making it more viable, Anet!) but I noticed the number 1 skill, Flame Jet, tends to miss for seemingly no reason. I tested it in PvE and it seems to happen pretty often, even against enemies that aren’t moving and are sitting in the middle of the flame.
Flamethrower would be nice if it didn’t miss for purely inexplicable reasons…
I think we are going to the crystal desart to find Glints Baby.
It is possible that the golden egg-shaped thing could be Glint’s offspring, but I don’t think that’s it. The story journal describes it as an artifact. I thought Glint’s eggs would all be hatched by now, and that the Zephyrites would have safeguarded the babies somewhere.
But if this artifact does tie back to the Zephyrites somehow, you could argue that’s why the Master of Secrets is on a secret mission. Maybe he’s out to find that thing, too.
What are your guys’ thoughts on the vision that the Pale Tree showed the player character?
You can watch the vision again here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhojUvcmLWg#t=3395
What gives us some minor clues is the living story journal. Its last entry reads Before she fell unconscious, the Pale Tree showed me a vision of a golden land and a mysterious artifact. I’m not sure what it means just yet.
We also know that when asked about what the vision was, the player character responded with “It felt like a call to action”
To summarize, the vision starts with a face of the Pale Tree in an autumn forest, which segues into winter. Then we go down a path to a place high above the clouds, with ruins of towers rising up and what looks like a golden orb or egg. The egg descends under ground surrounded by pillars and purple crystals. The crystals are then shattered by encroaching thorny vines.
The only part I can make sense of so far is the last part, where the crystals are shattered by thorny vines. We know from the attacks on Fort Salma and Concordia that Mordremoth is seeking out magical artifacts, and the vision showed vines bursting into the crystal-covered area that housed a shining, golden artifact. The purple crystals probably represent Kralkratorrik’s influence. Considering the PC felt that this vision was a call to action, I feel like the Pale Tree was urging the PC to find some sort of magical artifact buried within ruins that lay underneath the Dragonbrand before Mordremoth finds it.
The Dragonbrand reaches all the way down to the Crystal Desert. Even further south is Elona, which is known as “The Land of the Golden Sun”. That title sorta describes the look of that shining artifact and fits the description of the “golden land” described in the story journal. It may be possible that next parts of the Living Story will have us traveling south to the Crystal Desert or even Elona.
That’s about all I can make sense from this vision so far. Do you guys have any thoughts?
(edited by Ausfer.1853)
Guys, didnt anyone else notice the two quaggans were nowhere to be found after the attack? Isn’t that suspicious?
It could be… it was the quaggans all along! They were the ones who called the shadow of the dragon to the Grove!
Quaggans as dragon minions confirmed.
Dry Top’s Inquest crystal race event is one of the most fresh and enjoyable events I’ve personally encountered in Guild Wars, and I really would like to see more creative events like this one out of A-net in the future.
The crystal race was great for several reasons:
~It wasn’t a generic event like “kill these enemies”, or “guard this area” or “escort this NPC” that we see in dozens of other areas
~combat is different from regular fights because it encourages the strategic usage of abilities capable of causing inquest NPCs to drop crystals.
~the event rewards good teamwork and coordination, because throwing and passing crystals to eachother is faster than running them back
I think the more events like this one we have in future updates of Guild Wars, the more fun and enjoyable the new areas will be. Anyone agree? Disagree?
I’m sure this has been discussed before, but I was thinking about this earlier today and wanted to get my thoughts down on paper.
“Tonight, I saw it. I started into the abyss, and it stared back at me. … It communicated with me through images of death, destruction, and destiny. I must know more. I must confront it and put an end to this madness.”
— Scarlet’s Journal
“Caithe, someday you’ll see. Tyria needs me.”
— Scarlet Briar
Okay, so, we know Scarlet was a maniac. And we know she killed a lot of people. But I think its possible that she could have been wrestling with that voice inside of her head and at least in one point throughout her reign of terror, she may have been secretly planning to kill Mordremoth instead of merely awakening him. And its for a reason that’s not quite obvious.
I dont think Scarlet would oppose the dragon for altruistic reasons. Rather, I believe she would oppose it in defiance of her destiny and a wish to choose her own fate. Even from her awakening and long before she was Scarlet, Ceara detested the thought of being tied to a destiny she couldn’t choose:
“I’ll find my own place, thank you very much. And it’s hardly ‘my’ purpose if someone else gives it to me. …where my life is concerned, I will be the one who chooses.”
— Ceara, from the short story “What Scarlet Saw”
Recall that the sylvari believe the Dream of Dreams is moving them toward their collective “destiny,” though they do not know what this will be. Some of the Pale tree believe their destiny is to fight the dragons, and, while its not confirmed, I think the Nightmare Court and/or the Soundless will align themselves with Mordremoth, believing that serving the dragon is the sylvaris’ destiny.
But Scarlet emerged from Omadd’s machine wanting to forge her own path and not be constrained by a destiny she didnt choose for herself:
“An insurmountable challenge is rising, and my people have been called to meet it. We are compelled by our creator to do so. But I reject that call. I reject the notion that that I must choose the Dream or be lost to Nightmare. The forces that push us this way or that can be redirected. They can be set against one another to the detriment of both, and now I know how."
— Scarlet Briar, from the short story “What Scarlet Saw”
I’m going to take a step even further and say that Sylvari, the Dream, and Mordremoth are all connected. Perhaps the Dream is Mordremoth’s conciousness in some form, and the Sylvari are tied to it because they are minions of Modremoth.
Here’s why this makes sense: If Scarlet wanted to choose her own fate, then destroying the Dream would be the way to do it. And if the Dream is propagated by Mordremoth in some way, killing Ol’ Mordy would would result in the destruction of the Dream, freeing the Sylvari of their predetermined fate.
Now, how would Scarlet go about killing a dragon? Well, it goes back to some of the things that we don’t quite understand yet: the purpose of the marionette, the toxic alliance’s toxin, and the aethercannon.
While we can assume the Tower of Nightmares was constructed to produce the miasma that plagued Lion’s Arch, there’s nothing to my knowledge to hint that the original toxin and the miasma are the same thing. The toxin was a pollen, but the miasma was a gas. The toxin was hallucinogenic, but the miasma was not. The different color pallate also needs to be considered: toxic alliance was electric green and its plants were green/blue, while the miasma was red. So, its my theory that the toxin produced in the Tower of Nightmares had some yet-undiscovered purpose.
I think the same goes for the Breachmaker’s aethercannon and the marionette, too. Both were not used in the attack on Lion’s Arch, so what was their purpose?
I think they were all a part of a plan that Scarlet never had the chance to put into action, and that merely disrupting the ley lines was not her ultimate goal. Rather, I think she wanted to combat Mordremoth with the toxin and perhaps her clockwork army. Now, with Scarlet dead and Mordremoth awake, all Tyria would need is someone who knows her work well enough to pick up where she left off…
Taimi, anyone?
Ol’ Mordy is spreading his roots throughout Tyria to feed on magic like a plant takes in water. The vines are attracted to sources of magical energy.
People, the Sylvari are not minions because they are playable characters /endthread.
Um, no.
The only playable sylvari are from the Pale Tree and because of her, they are protected from Mordremoth’s direct infulence. This is how Anet can go about Sylvari being dragon minons without touching people’s sylvari characters.
All sylvari cut off from the Pale Tree, or having come from a different tree, are not safe.
Well, what can I say? It makes the most out of a bad kit? Flamethrower is largely worthless, and even with this build you’re way better off going zerker nades where the range makes a glass cannon build more viable.
Only thing I would suggest is to take 2 trait points out of firearms and put them into inventions. Reason being is that you don’t need Bunkered down, and Energized Armor gives you more a reliable damage boost than Target the Maimed. Plus, you gain a tiny bit more survivibility, which you need with the FT.
All of this falls in line with the theory that the Sylvari were originally convieced as dragon minions.
At the expense of tooting my own horn, I posted before season 2 starting predicting that any non-pale-tree sylvari will be succeptible to mordremoth’s influence. I’m sure I’m not the only one who came up with this conclusion, but still… looks like it could be true.
I agree with others saying the Nightmare Court will also be protected, because they are still connected to the Dream. The Soundless, however… they’re probably be, for lack of a better word, screwed. But even if they are procted from direct influence, I can easily see the Nightmare Court willingly align themselves with Mordremoth’s goals, believing it’s more in line with the sylvari’s true purpose.
Are the elder dragons universally “allied” with eachother with the common goal to consume all life on Tyria, or are they all acting alone?
If magical energy is a resource they consume, and assuming there is a finite amount of magical energy available, it seems logical to conclude that the elder dragons could possibly compete with eachother over Tyria’s resources. If this is true, it could be possible that the dragons are actually enemies with eachother, with each one in a power struggle to corrupt and consume more than its bretheren. Potentially, this could lead to in-fighting, which I could see the races of Tyria being able to use to their advantage in their efforts to defeat the dragons. What better weapon is there to fight an elder dragon than another elder dragon?
Right now, each elder dragon has its own area of influence, and (to my knowledge) we never see different types of dragon minions in the same locations. But, I wonder if one was able to collect different types of dragon minions in one area, if they would fight eachother.
Any thoughts on this?
Its my theory that the purple glowing vines are the “roots” of mordremoth. I bet what’s going on is that he spreads tendrils out to tap into the ley lines and siphon magical energy from them.
We already know that there’s a ley line somewhere in Dry Top that the miners accidently dug up. There’s good reason for Mordy to express his influence in that area.
I really wish I could hear Anet’s opinion on the flame thrower. I think its a fun kit to play with, but I end up never using it because it’s such a weak weapon.
You would think that as a flame weapon, most of its damage would be in condition damage…. I think it should be buffed to work better with condition builds. Also, I think stability needs to make a return to the FT in some form… the FT took a big nerf when Anet removed stability from Juggernaut.

just rebind 7 to ~ …
You’re completely missing the point. The idea is to make equipping a weapon kit functionally identical to swapping weapons. With your main weapon kit no longer going in your utility slot, this would free up a utility slot for other abilities.
Engineers can’t swap weapons with the tilde key (~), so what if instead they had a slot specifically for toolkits to go there instead? It would become a “Equip Main Toolkit” key. There’s no loss of function, and it would free up an extra utility slot for other skills (even a secondary toolkit).
Would you welcome this hypothetical change, or do you think it would give engineers an unfair advantage in PvP?
If not the Tengu, then I vouch for the Kodan. Their cities are all floating icebergs, so they don’t even need to currently be on the map, and there’s plenty of room in the Far Shiverpeaks.
I don’t think its purely necessary for a new race to have several level 1-79 areas dedicated to it, either. The tengu could easily share their starter area with the Sylvari in caledon forest.
I am not sure in which forum this needs to be posted, but the Bobblehead Labratory does not work on Zaitan.
This needs to be fixed. For hilarity’s sake.
Make it happen, A-net.
Hey all, this is my first post here and I came to speculate about what the awakening of Mordremoth might mean for Tyria.
So, from what we’ve seen, each elder dragon has their own unique form of corruption that warp living beings and even the very land into twisted forms in their own image. Zaitan has the Risen. Kralkatorrik has the Brand. Jormag has the Icebrood and Primordius has the Destroyers. Mordremoth has….?
I have a theory that we might already know of the jungle dragon’s corruption, and perhaps even one of it’s champions. It’s been right in front of us all this time, deep in Wychmyre Swamp.
According to in-game dialogue, the sylvari Gamarien believes that the world boss, the Great Jungle Wurm, is the result of a much darker force than the Nightmare Court. Along with the Wurm are a collection of enemies called Avatars of Blight and Blighted Husks. I believe this “much darker force” is the jungle dragon Moredremoth’s latent influence, and the Wurm could possibly be a champion of Mordremoth. Also, “the blight” that corrupts the area around the swamp might be the direct result of the dragon’s corruption. Heck, that might even turn out to be the name of the dragon’s corruption: “The Blighted”
One of the other times you see Husks are in the Crucible of Eternity, where the inquest have an Evolved Husk (no doubt having been experimented on to take this new form) in the green lab area that’s themed around a jungle. The Inquest use the Crucible to study and experiment on elder dragon magic, so if husks are there, it all but confirms that husk creatures are Mordremoth’s minions.
Also in the Crucible’s green lab area are Nightmare hounds, which would imply a connection between Mordremoth and the Nightmare Court. Also consider that the Nightmare Court are capable of creating their own husks and spreading their own “nightmare corruption”. Now, there’s already a lot of speculation and evidence suggesting the Sylvari were intended to be dragon minions. That has its own thread, so I won’t touch too much on it, but I believe the theory is true. It would certainly explain why they can make their own dragon minions.
The Three Headed Jungle Wurm in Bloodtide Coast also spawns Husks, which could mean that thing is also a champion of Moredremoth.
So what does this mean? Well, I have a couple of ideas on what we might be seeing out of the Living Story season 2:
~Its possible we could be seeing an update and expansion on the Great Jungle Wurm fight. It could get the same treatment Tequatl got. I can see this being an update early in the season, to set the stage of future events.
~Its possible we might be seeing more of “the blight”. I think this may be the name for Mordremoth’s corruption, though it might have another name once it gets revealed. Regardless, I think that for future living story updates, we could start seeing “the blight” corrupt creatures in the form of blighted animals such as “blighted jungle raptor” and “blighted mossheart” and even blighted humans, charr, asura, ect. And blighted creatures will resemble summoned husks in design and style.
~Also, I believe the Nightmare Court and possibly other non-pale-tree sylvari (Malyck) will either willingly align themselves with Mordremoth, believing that dragon is more in tune with the Sylvari’s “true nature”. Or, (assuming sylvari have been dragon minions all along) the dragon could possibly just control them directly, like how other dragons do with their minions. I can imagine several living story updates would be needed to flesh this out.
Do you guys think we’ll be seeing more of the jungle wurms and husk creatures in future living story updates?
Awesome! That’s it! Thanks a bunch!
Does anyone know where I can find this theme? I’ve been trying to find it for a while, ever since my first time fighting Slick and Sparki in the Twilight Arbor Aetherblade path. The music always got me pumped up, it was pretty adventurous and epic.
