So i love this game, love the combat, but main my main (Guardian) is getting boring, i switch between my variant of an A.H might stacking tanky dps build (using might on crit proccing traits / sigils plus vigor proc on crit and more)

And a my variant of a 3 meditation build, note i NEVER use other peoples builds, i came to using these 2 guardian builds because their the most viable, plus they are the only ones that fit my “style”.

So i find myself using the same weapons, greatsword/staff , i made the best builds you could for sword/focus main but its just not as viable in the long run in wvw and such compared to the 2 cookie cutter guardian builds.

TL DR ; START READING BELOW

So i basicly am sick of only having 4 utlilty skills deciding my play styl it just seems to boring and it seems every fight is almost the same, with no room to really tacticly change. Plus the fact that theirs only 2(main variants) of guardian builds, with little changes here and their but the best guardians use a.h or monks focus and seem to use the same 5-6 utlitiy skills, i dont know how people can play the same char with so little builds for so long.

Note: Ive tried MANY outside of the box guardian builds, i post a very high damaging unique sword/focus & staff dps blind/vuln stacking/might stacking spike dmg guardian and got shot down, people didnt even beleive he could spike for 10-15k damage if done right in a 2-5 second setup.

Alas the build did good damage but more then 1 condition remover and the ability to snare openets and stop them from running away.

Sure a lot of the out of the box builds i made were usable, but they became redundant compared to the 2 main flavors since they usually had problems with enemies just wandering away.

A lot of people told me they feal the same and that i should try ellie, now the main thing holding me back is i hear ellie has only 2-4 real viable builds for wvw – pve .

(As in viable i mean their much better then the “non viable” builds thus making them redundant)

I like how the ele has many different skills as one of my main gripes of gw2 is the lack of skills especially if you like only 1 or two different weapons then your stuck with those skills forever.

I would roll elly now as my main but if theirs only a few viable builds for wvw (d/d or aoe nuker) then i may reconsider but IF

The elementalist officers different playstyles that are viable, even without having to switch weapons (GW1 PLAYERS KNOW WHAT I MEAN)

and if every weapon set is has viable builds then elementalist i think IS for me as i get real bored of essentially only having 4 utilty skills that you can change at first its fun but doesnt give me a lot of replayability imo atleast on guardian

I’m leaning towards either a elementalist because it looks like it takes it to the next level and i wont be bored, or a theif since they seem to have a high skillcap also, due to them relying on mobility a lot and such, but when i played theif before i seemed to have a problem with backstab builds almost overruling all other types of builds.

Ah stacks with how many people are around is my point, my buddy worked out the healing of a.h vs monks focus with 3 traited meditations, and it becomes equal around 3.5 people with a.h, roughly. And ofcourse this is highly situational//broad/subjective but it still helps you get a grasp on things

How does it not have anything to do with the build? Taking into account that when i play often times in my playstyle i wont be using Alteristic healing to my full advantage plays a huge part.

Plus why would you discount the FACT that shouts are not only self buffs but team buffs also?

Please refrain from posting general statements like this,

We all know that shouts work better in groups but its not as night and day as this.

Because a lot of the time even when im in a huge wvw group with a party, im too far away for them to benefit from shouts

interventions over shouts in an ah build? I don’t understand what your talking about, and im not really askin about shout builds as i played the class inside and out since beta. I tailor made my own A.h build that works good imo.

I dislike using judges intervention without it being traited (like using it with shout a.h build) because the cast time traited is already pretty long, plus with that long of a cast time and no heal, i would rather have an extra shout.

I’m just finding some of the meditations to be mediocre i don’t know im warming up to them a bit, i mean even when traited the cooldowns seem too long for what they do, anyway heres the buil i built for meditations.

Also this is the first time i put some points in zeal, and im wondering, my passive burn that burns every 4th hit seems to last a big longer with some points in zeal but it still seems a little too short for me to be getting the plus 10 percent dmg bonus their should i get rid of zeal tree and go into virtues like i did with my a.h build?

NOTE The items/armor/trinkets im using are a mix of dps and tankiness i have:
3k armor
40 crit chance
55 crit damage
16 000 hp
(Using a mix of different orbs in armor, armor itself is a mix of knights / zerkers / power/vit/tough)
2 hand gs signit : Sigil of strength (might on crit) for now, because i was using it for my A.H might proccing tanky support / dps build and may switch back.

What sigil would best synergize with that build and is that build ok? (I use sigil of energy on my staff which i think is the best choice)

Anyway i’ll post MY A.H build also, now for the A.H build all my weapons/armor/trinket stats basicly stayed the same as i like the good all around’ness of it.

Note: My A.H build is built around A.H and shouts ofcourse but also proccing might, i proc might using:

All these alone give me Ok healing it seems, i don’t know if Meditations trump it at all.
For additional healing i can spam all my virutes (10 in virtues) for nice healing and nice buffs to dmg and survability, i can pop off my passive fire ability for some might and burst fire plus healing if i need be, then refresh it with my elite.

And i understand what your saying about signit of judgement, and i realize this i do use sig of judgement when i need more tankyness in certaint situations s’all im saying.

So is the instant meditation trait required?

Also i’d like to state ive been playing guardians since beta and have tried all the possibilities of A.H / shouts, i havn’t explored into meditations too much as i found them lackluster but im willing to give them another try because i want to feal a bit more independent now and not rely on my teamates as much as a lot of the times i get ganked in wvw.

Also the added mobility plus synergy heal with that seems nice, also i do need to do more damage i find on some tanky targets in wvw i don’t do enough damage, and i am specced to be a tanky dpser, more dps then tank , but i can take a beating,

i dont understand how does sig of judgement give conditions to oponents and its not classified as a shout but since it gives retal it might proc a.h? anywho thats a lil offtopic im more asking about meditations and if the instant meditation trait is needed as they already seem pretty instant. plus in wvw somtimes i am going solo or im running in to melee range solo a lot and i find its just me benefiting from a.h.

Whats the pros and cons of meditations vs shouts? Other then the obviois ones like shouts help support your team

Im currently using my own varient of an A.H build that relies on using a sigil that procs might on crit for a.h plus the empowering might trait for might on crit and the trait that give vigor on crit, plus 5 in virtues and elite focus elite and spamming virtues.

Now i find myself in wvw / dungeons a lot were my team isnt always around me or close enough to benefit from a.h, and it seems ah heals are only worth it when u have a full party around you, im going to try out a meditation build, my own variant of course, was wondering what you guys think of meditations vs shouts for wvw / pve/dungeons (all cept pvp)

edit : Also is the trait that makes meditations instant needed? i really like having the 5 percent of toughness goes to prec trait because it gives me 5 more crit chance, boosting me up to 40 crit instead of 32ish.

I agree they ruin immersion for me, but that was one of my main problems in gw1, they had similair things by the end of gw1’s life cycle half the people where walking dinosours, wearing gi joe army uniforms, dressed as fireman, walking teddy bears.

I hope gw2 doesnt go that way, too, (they already have some stuff i disagree with)

Ive been holding off an making either a necro and/or ranger, as i like the asethetics as both, necros im not so sure if i like the way they actually “work”, plus i like having a viable minion master build to have.

The content isn’t easy with melee weapons, its easy with warriors and guardians because their warriors and guardians, and both classes usually still switch to easy range mode for bosses / hard enemies.

Guess what so today i get kicked at the jade fotm boss AGAIN.

What was i doing … I was AGAIN HELPING A NOOB, i type fast as i work with computers so i type a lot, why do people get offended, im about to lose it ive been griefed at jade 4 times on fotm lvl 4 now, only thing i do wrong is i talk a lot, usually helping a noob, both times today and last night the noob ASKED me for help.

And my guild doesn’t want to help me, i would like to find a new guild on t.c that would.

I’ve NEVER experinced a community as bad as this, this was this RANDOM PUGS people!

A.net its not just me my group of friends (10 people) and my guild (700 people) experince this normally also.

If you so much as disagree with 2 people, your kicked but not at the begening, no they let you carry them to the very end then kick you

Plus A.net makes it as hard as POSSIBLE to report somone, as the chat logs disapear when you get kicked, so i can’t even report these people as i didn’t memorize their names this time.

I know qq moar right?
This is pathetic, i think imma give up on this game first it was i was always getting disconected, or get a bad apple that would keep going down and then go down at that one cruicialtime and group wipe..

Now its griefers….

Make it impossible to kick someone at last jade fotm boss level unless all 4 people vote, even then maybe once the boss is at half hp make it impossible to kick or somthing?

And Please Do somthing about griefers if you made it possible to have chat logs not get erased and/or somehow letting us have the names of the people we just played and did some justice to these people that are ruining the game for me and thousands (this is comfirmed) people.

Sure, leave WARRIORS stronger than anything else, and delete low-defense ranged classes/builds from the game, after all the damage as well as their defense must be nerfed till they become kitten useless classes. =)

Umm warriors are only good on trash mobs, im talking more about wvw, in wvw and other pvp warriors need some help. Plus im talking from more of a guardian purspective, not on purpose but my main is a guardian.

We dont have to buff melee damage i dont want THAT
The buff would be more for warrior 1 hand sword WHICH NEEDS A BUFF compared to other warrior weapons.

I didn’t ever say buff greatsword, just leave AOE melee the same. Thats all.

Notice how almost all melee classes HEAVILY favour greatsword *: ) *

i agree with them that AoE-damage is too important in WvW right now.
most of the time you dont even have to bother with single-target stuff in bigger group-fights.

as for the rez-problem:
anet should just reduce the infight-revive speed by a lot. its ridiculous how fast you can revive downed players and that you can outheal a lot of incoming damage.

tbh, i’d love to see some portal-like restrictions on many other AoE-skills. for example all the block/reflect-walls and -barriers. or these ridiculous “lolcantcross”-lines and bubbles of the guardian.

“aoe is too important right now” Um…. WvW consists of zergs vs zergs a lot of the time, ZERGING IN WVW IS TOO IMPORANT RIGHT NOW, NOT AOES

Ofcourse aoe is going to be HEAVILY needed, look at all the zerg v zergs, and no matter what aoe will be important and it should!

Just like single target dps is is also important, try taking on a small mobile squaod of 5-10 with just staff ellies, feal the wrath of death, also single target dps does more dmg, and if it doesn’t then it should So theirs that too.

Perhaps some single target weapons like 1hand sword need a slight buff, not just 1hand sword for warriors/guardians but other things too, it just seems like this single stuff can be underpowered, look at sceptor thats single target…..

Anyway i say buff aoe in wvw

Make ZERGS counter aoe, but dont make aoe do more dmg then single target dps

aslo we don’t know what anets true definition of aoe is, like is guardians greatswords autoattack aoe? it does aoe, but its melee based, if they nerf that it WONT BE GOOD melee already is harder then ranged, i say

If you guys can direct to towards a guild that will play fractals JUST TO HELP ME, and that is active in WvW / PvE please let me know i will join.

All my IRL friends don’t play guildwars 2, they either play WoW or don’t play mmo’s.

5 times you are booted? Sometimes the results are a cause of a symptom that you don’t correctly diagnose…

not at all how about because i play everday and 5 times for getting GREIFED not booted is not a lot.

GREIFED : MEANS YOU GET BOOTED FOR SOMTHING AT THE END OF THE 3RD FRACTAL, USUALLY WHEN YOU HAVNT DONE ANYTHING WRONG.

every time ive been griefed its because i stuck up for a noob, stuck up for myself or when i went afk for 3 minutes because my kid fell down the stairs, and not i didnt get kicked when i came back from my kid i got kicked an hour later at the end.

Im getting sick of this, so i finally after 2 hours find a group, well since i got told to shut up i said no, i was helping the newer guy who didnt know what to do thats when i guess they decided to boot me at the end,

this is redicously i just made a thread of how its impossible to get a group for lower level fractals now i get griefed, seriosly this game is becoming very frustrating to play why can TWO people kick someone? all these times this happend it was just 2 friends started fights with people.

Im about to stop playing theirs too many bogus systems like 2 person kick, ive never been griefed for no reason in any other game before, this stuff is new to me.

Is their anything you can do against these people if not, im gonna quit for sure its too easy for people to grief.

Not to mention it took me 2 hours to find a group another half an hour to get to the third fractal.

Where do i report for grieifng? Will somthing happen to these people?

Why does it require 2 people to kick someone in the middle of fractals?

Ok, im turning this thread into a productive thread;

Please a.net i love your game but please please you need to put in some anti griefing systems, perhaps passed fractal 3 make it impossible to kick a player in the last fractal level.

Also make it always require atleast 4 people to kick a person in fractals

(Keep it 2 or 3 in general pve )

Also how am i supposed to post a picture of grieifing proof when it deletes your party chatlog when you get kicked? this needs to be fixed please

Don’t think the patch will help you. In the new system you can go to the highest lvl fractal that any member of the group can join. If you cannot do lvl 40 (at chr lvl 60 you cannot) then you still will not find groups with your guild. I do not do fractals but when a toon is in LA there are usually several different looking for fract 1 announced.

Why cant most of the people on here comprehend a post larger then half a paragraph?

Why would i try to bring a lvl 60 char in fotm, and not my lvl 80 whos been lvl 80 since a month after fotm came out?

Seriously, every thread i make most of the people can’t comprehend the post, its getting redic.

Also i know what the patch will do and how will it not help me? I cant find anyone to find a group for fotm lvl 1-4 because i was far behind since all my characters will at lvl 60ish when fotm came out.

Fotm came out a while ago just so you know.

Why would i bring a lvl 60 char into fotm and not my lvl 80 chars?

Since i wasnt lvl 80 yet when fotm came out ( i leveled 4 chars to 60 to see what i like best) I was behind the curve, even for unskilled players and ive been stuck at fotm 4 for months and months, not because i can’t do it but because NO ONE will group with me, and i use gw2lfg.com also, still doesn’t help plus im on T.C the unofficial most active server.

Can you guys patch it in already! Im sick of doing all the monthlys except the fotm part and not being able to complete it due to lack of group..

And yes i’m in a guild but their all in the 30-40’s of fotm, they wont help me why would they want to grind the same dungeons that theyve did over and over again….Without a reward.

And i heard that ascended was going to be available everywhere. This was a long time ago, whats taking so long.

I have found two lvl 4 fotm groups in the passed few months, both were full of some of the worst players ive experinced in any game, and i still carried the team to the jade fractal, but guess what happend after we beat the jade fractal (the last part of fotm lvl 4 to progress to 5) a player decided to click exit which put up the vote to return thing, We all thought it was the complete fractal return to base option but it wasn`t he clicked it a little before THAT message would have popped up so we didn`t PROGRESS!

Apparently he thought you always clicked that after everytime you beat a fractal dungeon!

If anyone has a solution to me finding a fotm lvl 4 group please let me know.

Btw if the patch is coming at the end of the month how can i finish my monthly ive literally done everything els for the monthly.

This isnt fair i literally CANNOT complete the monthly!

Note: This is not another typical aoe thread, this one pertains to greatsword for guardian and warrior and perhaps to a smaller extent the guardian sword.

Since these all have “aoe” like skills, i wonder if anet was talking about greatsword style aoe, i mean let me tell you i JUST gave up using sword as a guardian for pve/wvw because it lacked the skills needed to catch targets BUT ill tell you this with my vary specific sword/focus /staff burst build (yes burst) i did way more damage then a similair gs build, this is because i relied on right hand strength and also zealots defence that hit a quick 8 times, which gave me a nice 8-15k dps burst in 8 hits, now this required stacking vulnerability and might but it worked, this was burst after, i could do good sustained damage but problem was people ran away to easy. Not to mentio the swords last chain attack is
awesome for using a build that relied on crits (my 1hsword build) since the last number 1 auto attack chain hit 3 times, this helped me proc my sigil of str, my empowering might trait, my vigor proc trait,and burn when i wasnt spamming my virtues (5 pts in virtues) for heals / burst dmg.

The reason i switched to greatsword was mainly because it has a snare AND it has a jump, the icing on the cake was for pve and i guess wvw it wasnt cone aoe and it was full aoe.

Im worried their gonna change this after i just bought all my items specific to this type of build that relies on greatsword.

Also if they are talking about how greatsword style aoe is powerful, it is, but the thing is it does less damage then a sword, atleast if you build around the sword and use its advantages theirs a lot of synergy using sword/focus with 2 blinds and traiting blinds – to also cause vulnerability plus with spammable 8x attacks u can build might fast and right hand strength just lets you stack more power or crit dmg instead of worrying about more resources into crit chance!.

So my point is if its greatsword style melee aoe (not cone melee aoe) that their talking about, my suggestion would be buff single target weapons a bit, now perhaps the damage on SOME of the weapons needs tweaking, just so single target weapons do the most damage, cone aoe do the 2nd most, and all around g.s style melee do the least – BUT STILL MORE DMG THEN RANGED!.

For the guardian 1h sword for example i would propose that they give flashing blade a cripple and perhaps increase cooldown by 3-5 seconds OR they could just make it a quick 3 second cripple, which would still work due to flashing blade being spammable PLUS its not o.p because cripple can be overcome.

This may make me take a second look at 1h sword, besides the fact i JUST spent 20k on a naegling because i fully gave up on 1hswords lack of snare-ability and yes i tried some utltility skills and cold sigil, but i like using dmg increasing sigils and with the greatsword i have 2 snarish abilitys that come with the weapon, besides the meditation tepeport is pretty lame, LONG COOLDOWN and is just a boring meh skilll imo.

Er, wat. No one is “gaming the system” with AoE. It’s simply the most effective way to battle in WvW where you’re being rushed by zergs of enemies.

Does ANet seriously expect their WvW players to each focus on single target 1v1 damage when combating in groups of 20 or more, where AoE is clearly the most effective tactic? Who in the world thought that nerfing ALL AoE in every profession everywhere would be a good idea? If anything it will only further cripple some of the already lackluster professions in the game and ruin some of the best non-broken combos there are, while leaving the clearly broken single-target spikes of multiple classes completely intact. ._.

Just like their are single target skills that do absurd damage, the same goes for AOE. Both need nerfed and who is to say the single target ones are getting nerfed as well. Why should some AOE skills literally do more damage than a single target melee attacks? The answer is they shouldn’t thus the nerf.

Now I believe the AOE target limit is a bad solution. The correct solution would be what WoW implemented. The AOE has a total damage it can do to a number of targets, if there are more enemies in the AOE then the total damage gets averaged out over the the number of enemies. So a 1k AOE to 5 players becomes 500 to 10. Or perhaps the WAR route is better where everyone in the AOE gets effected BUT you cannot stack AOE’s. Or another route is just reducing the damage to each player hit past 5. Anything is better than the current 5 limit but we definitely don’t want 100% damage to everyone because then WvW will become all AOE classes, yes far worse than even now. Warhammer proved what unlimited AOE does to RvR, we don’t want to repeat that here.

IMO the way to balance AOE is to reduce their damage so they don’t hit harder than single target damage, but allow them to hit more than 5 people at further reduced damage.

your last little paragraph their seems up what i think pretty nicely, 5 limit cap is making zergs too strong in wvw, if they just tweaked the damage perhaps if aoe is has more then 5 people in it the damage is spread out between how many people it does (starting at 6 or more people) but again this would have to be tweaked so it isnt too weak or too strong, personally i never felt aoe was o.p in this game even before the 5 limit cap,

i mean its so easy to just move out of i dont understand how its hard, and in pve theirs always gona be a need for aoe its normal in these kind of games, look at daggers their single target and do great damage, but then the sword for guardian is lacking but i dont find its because of no massive aoe, you can still hit 5 peeps if u just move them into position in wvw, the sword needs some kind of rooting attack so i can catch stuff as the gs for guardian has 2 options for catching people, sword/whatever has one which doesnt work too well.

The pro mf on armor people dont get that removing mf armor and putting mf in other and upping the droprate to comrpomise (just a bit) would only benefit everyone, if no one uses mf and the game is tweaked around only having mf from food / boons then its the same thing as wearing the mf in the first place.

this is why mf on armor is so stupid we feal as we must wear it to get drops but that shouldn’t be the case, if thats the case why dont we just give every armor an mf stat.

Aoe in wvw needs a BUFF to not a nerf, they should have never added the 5 target limit, ZERGING is already out of hand and theirs NOTHING to break a 50 – 100 man zerg except having more then the other zerg.

I fail to see how aoe in dungeons is gaming the system, the system is already easy and aoe already is pretty meh with a 5 target limit, they only need to buff single target damage weapons / skills a bit.

Seriously? Aoe is not strong, aoe needs A BUFF IN WVW its already about who has the biggest zerg as it is, this is because LACK of aoe, i don’t see a problem whatsoever with aoe in any game mode.

Infact i’d say remove the silly 5 person limit on aoe, this way we wont have zerg vs zerg which is ruining wvw.

In dungeons Aoe is used but its not overused, perhaps SOME single target weapons could use a little buff, like the sword, daggers seem just fine they do TONS OF DPS.

Ofcourse people are going to use aoe’s in dungeons, but i don’t see how thats a problem

look at every other game, theirs always 1 or 2 people usually using only aoe.

And this is coming from a main guardian and theif player who doesn’t use that much aoe in the first place.

WvW’s main problem is it comes down to who has the biggest zerg and we need less huge man eating zergs and more smaller 10-20 people groups.
The nerf to aoe making it effect 5 people only just made wvw worse and i can’t believe they want to make zerging even MORE viable.

I actually did this over a month ago and have known the differences between the three sets for green and exotic rarities.

Between green armor (without runes) and accessories, the difference between berserker and explorer is 200 power and 24% critical damage. You do a little more damage but you receive the same amount of damage. If you’re willing to give up the 18% MF from explorers but still use MF accessories, the difference is then 129 power and 29% critical damage.

Between green armor (without runes) and accessories, the difference between knight and explorer is 605 toughness. You take a little less damage but you do the same damage. If you’re willing to give up the 18% MF from explorers but still use MF accessories, the difference is then 350 toughness.

Criticizing explorers because you take more damage is irrelevant since you’ll take the same damage with berserkers. Criticizing explorers because you’ll deal less damage is irrelevant since you deal the same damage as knights. You can’t compare exotic berserkers/knights to green explorers since a lot of people run dungeons in greens making the stat difference irrelevant unless you want to say people without exotics are being selfish too.

The only thing that you can argue is that it does neither and then it’s up to how much of a difference in damage dealt and mitigated. That’s up for someone else to figure out. I never cared for either side but was just shocked that people would blindly argue without even doing any research but instead basing their opinions on assumptions.

MF stat on armor / weapons doesn’t do anything for gameplay, doesnt help you or your allies in combat.

Beserkers ISNT SELFISH because DOING DAMAGE HELPS YOUR TEAM people can run besekers and still not die ( depending on their class and how good they are ) Also you can wear zurkers armor and still stack vit toughness (if you need to) through runes/orbs/trinkets/jewlery/traits not to mention people like thieves can go glass and still have survivability.

Magic find doesn’t help you do anything, it only effects drops which is a non combat mechanic.

Armor stats should have stats that reflect combat mechanics or gameplay mechanics, if its somthing that effects non combat it should come in the forum of a boon consumable only imo.

Getting rid of weapon/armor stat magic find would be a nice big innovation on arena nets part,

We need More "Pve style PvP"

As in i want to be able to use my pve stuff that i worked hard for in more pvp types, why couldnt they have done this with all types? I mean they could have still made pvp only max lvl chars, anyway i just think it really breaks immersion havng to have 2 different armor sets with different stats, some type of story driven pvp like factions is needed.

WvW would be a lot more interesting if we had some lore behind it, it could be somthing as easy as a band of guilds allieing to gain power over another allied force of guilds.

A factions like faction system would be welcome, and i do hope their first expansion adds more similair types of WvW with lore, and adds on WvW itself.

Perhaps adding in open world dueling (yes just like wow, but every mmorpg game should have this its a way to show kitten, to settle scores) Open world dueling dueling should also come with a betting system, where you as one of the dueling participants could bet on yourself to win and others could put money on either opponent.

I know people are going to use the old chestnut of : The game isn’t ballened around 1v1, well it already sort of is, plus dueling is optional and just an added feature for those that want it.

For those that complain about people spam asking you to duel, all they have to do is make the notifcation that osmeone wants to duel you pop up once, then you can click dismiss ; which would unable the player who challenged you to resend for 10 minutes preventing spam, OR your can choose accept, Ontop of that their could be an option to turn off dueling request as a whole, this would be a small checkmark in the (H)ero tab in the top right corner.

*Tug of war style PvP (Dota, Aeon Of Strife, Blizzard Allstars League of legends)

Another AWSOME IDEA for a game type, is a DoTa (or league of legends, Aeon of strife, Blizzard allstars) Type of Moba style game where two factions are in a tug of war style combat with enemy npc armies spawning at each side of the map with towers and buildings.

Their would be upgrades for npc units making them stronger,
Also their would be a large variety of strong and diverse units you could purchase with tokens and then upgrade (upgrades can be anything from increases vit,armor,dmg to run speed, SPELLS/SKILLS, attack speed, ability to dodge, increasing range.

these would cost some sort of “dog tag” style token that you get from killing enemy human players and rarely (10-15 percent) drop from killing npc units. Siege would be available too but not easy to get and limited.

The many upgrading / buying of units would add TONS of stragegy to the game as their would be counters and better units / upgrades for situations or perhaps you just like to make an army to your playerstyle and liking; like perhaps you love archers, how about dont upgrade their health,hp,armor at and and use all your tokens to upgrade their range (this would have a cap ofcourse), damage, attack speed, move speed, and the ability to have a chance on HIT 10 percent to poison target for 12 seconds.

You have just built an army of glass cannon archers with real long range, now all those upgrades would take a long time and thats what pooring almost all your tokens into one unit over a long ammount of time will look like, this is just an example and perhaps this units upgrades would take one persons full tokens they earned with the help of 2 other people, this time wouldnt have many units as strong as this one as they chose to go with maxing one type, perhaps the other teamates decide they wanted to make some melee meatshields, thus upgrading their main melee unit’s hp and defence to max upgrade level.

*(Note the folllowing is just an example, of the kind of ideas i have perhaps the archer bit may sound o.p but this stuff is just basic ideas and would be tweaked )

I have a confession to make too. Sometimes, I take bio breaks between pulls. Yeah, I know… It’s so selfish of me to take more time doing what I need to do when I KNOW that I’m taking more time off the run than the guy running full MF over ’zerkers, but what can I do? Sometimes, you just gotta go…

Thats a horrible comparison, urinating is somthing you need to do, it effects real life.

People are saying the game will be better without magic find, which is true, we have no problem with the poeple using it, we, atleast i dont use it because i think its time magic find is taken out, other games are already doing it (if you want a list, just let me know ill post you a list as proof) its just plain not fun.

Hence it should be taken out or replaced with temp buffs you can earn for doing special things (perhaps winning in wvw).

People arn’t so much complaining about magic find as suggestion that the game doesn’t need it and shouldnt have had it. Especially with a.nets design philosify and the fact that this mmo has a lot of innovative stuff.

If someone is in full PVT gear then they do less damage making slower runs. Pretty selfish that they wear PVT gear so they supposedly die less often and save on repair costs at the expense of their team progressing through a dungeon at a quicker rate.

If someone is in full berserker gear then they receive more damage and will die more often than someone without. With them dying they won’t be putting out as much damage and negate any damage output increase by having berserker gear.

If someone is wearing greens and doing dungeons then they’re being selfish for not farming for better gear such as exotics. They’re just going to slow everyone down with their “inferior” stats.

Those that are anti-MF cannot use player skill as a defense against what I said since so many of you claim it doesn’t matter. Being able to read what attacks monsters will do and acting accordingly does not have a significant impact on survivability (sarcasm).

Okay, so you already provided a counterargument to your first point with your second point: if that person’s alive they’re being useful.
Second one, they’re still dealing more damage than someone in Explorer’s even if they’re dropping quickly.
Third one, it’s very likely that the person could not AFFORD exotic yet, unlike an exotic Explorer’s who willingly gimped themselves when they obviously could afford an exotic set.

Having a significantly higher amount of health doesn’t make you harder to kill, and statistically increasing your damaging stats doesn’t make you kill things faster.

Hes right, pvt gear is helping the team TREMENDIOUSLY because this star player, has decided he wants power vit and tough, which infact, do this funny little thing that helps you NOT to DIE since DIEING STOPS YOU FROM DOING DAMAGE and power, infact increases your dps.

So that magnificent mesmer using p/v/t is infact HELPIN DA TEAMZ by NOT dieing thus creating the reality of: damaging stuff and staying alive to continue damaging stuff Dead people do this funny thing called “Not doing damage cuz their dead" Look it up, its very interesting. (Sarcasm)

I want a new class of weapons; Boss Uniques (B.U’S)

This class would have same stats as exotic, but it would be teal color and would only drop from certaint Bosses which could be in open world pve (in enemy bases where its hard to get sort of like mini dungeons, or like cenatar keep) In mini dungeons, and perhaps new instance areas.

These would be a reward for VERY hard bosses / Getting to Bosses would be hard and which should only reward the player for skill, now they wouldn’t ALWAYS drop after a kill but it should be a nice high chance, just make them elite hard encounters perhaps scaling to how many people are their. This would add a whole new layer to the game, and wouldn take too long to implement either!

I think he ment their will be more events in a single area so each event is less likely to be played over and over, which is a good thing.

Also in my opinion i think they need to change some events in some areas permanenlty or perhaps for a set ammount of time, example ; What if a certaint area has been invaded by a seperatist group that is weilding some anceint power where they can use the undead as a weapon, and this would spawn many mini events, where towns are constantly being attacked, an oposition is trying to move in to take the new seperatist citadel that has been created using dark energies, we later find out that the seperatist was using old white mantel tricks (the seperatists have been tied to the white mantel)

I just put that together out of the top of my head, but its a good example of the way they could make events seem dynamic and ever changing, once the seperatist leaders have been slain or captured (how bout give US the players a choice which could then impact the story of that area or of that incident onto future event / storylines )

Encourage More Melee Use In WvW

I feal melee in wvw is underpowered only because im in the 2 percent who use melee

When im using melee with atleast 5 other people in a 40vs40 wvw battle, i feal im perfectly ballenced as im not being targeted by 40 people, i’m a gw1 and mmo vet and ive played a pure melee guardian extensively for 400 hours (my /age is 550 hours).

I know how to mitigate damage with spells and whatnot but i feal the game is far too ranged combat oriented

I LOVE the idea of melee being high risk / reward and requiring more skill, but its just too much even warriors i see getting more use out of their ranged weapons i feal melee is used a lot in small 6v6 skrimishes in wvw but almost next to not used at ALL in larger WvW skrimishes, if im not playing with my guild or an organized party,

Its very hard to be as effective as a ranged player in large battles.

I think giving melee a small buff somehow in WvW would benefit the community as a whole.

Not to mention guardians lack the ability to snare targets and or catch targets as much as i’d like, outside hammer guardians i feal its a little unfair.

With my d/d ele , theif , necro ive NEVER been killed by a guardian, let alone a non hammer guardian.

The meditation that teleports is on a high cooldown, and that will only give you a few attacks before they run away again, their is a signet that will do this but i feal that since the passive is meh, and the cooldown is meh that its not that great, the gs skill that brings people back is ok but it would be better if i could target the people i want to bring down myself.

I made it to “I’m a Guardian” and quit reading. Not really, but you lost credibility to me.

My Main is a Guardian, and I love the profession. I run GS and Sword/Torch in WvW. In the last four days, I have gotten about 350 kills, and died about 20 times, if not closer to 15. When Zergs collide, I’m always in front of my Zerg, buried in the sea of red. I tank through a lot of damage, and I deal decent damage. Decent being about half a health bar per whirling wrath.

In all honesty, it comes down to a L2P issue, as much as I hate saying it. Melee is harder to play than range, but not inferior. You have to keep an eye on the tide of battle, and make sure you sway with it. You have to know when to back out to take a breather, and when to give that risky push. The majority of the damage you take will be ranged, but that’s nothing a WoR won’t fix. It also bolsters allies to push forward, many going melee to do it.

When I die, it always comes down to one of two reasons. One, I pushed my luck and bit off more than I can chew. I do this a lot, because I’m always pushing my game, trying to do better. Or two, the enemy begins pushing forward, and I don’t notice(sway of battle). Now I have to wade through red to get back to my allies, which can get ugly fast.

Everything else comes down to just how well you manage your resources, and how skillful your play is.

As for PvE, I just whip out my hammer and can auto attack the vast majority of bosses. You mention the Dredge Fractal Boss, and I melee it too. Learn the tells, and dodge. Take a breather if you must. Use aegis at the right time. Keep protection up. Heal, dance, be the one to tip the bucket.

Lastly, players always go the path of least resistance. Range offers this, as it should.

How do you survive melee in zergs with just WoR? I’ve tried every build and ive played 500 hours of the game as a guardian, their by far one of the more tankier classes, and yes i get lots of kills too, but i don’t see how you survive big zergs unless you have a guild team with you or other people who use melee with you, when im pugging in wvw im usually the only pure melee user and i don’t always die but i find it very hard to stop 30 people from focus fireing you down, so i find myself often running in and doing small skrimish fights which do fine since i dont have 30 people focus firing me.

If its a l2p issue then teach me how to tank 30 people, Im aware of WoR and i don’t consider myself a bad player im highly ranked in pvp and i’m in one of the top pvp /wvw guilds and was also in gw1.

*When i run with my guild who will have 5 other people meeling with me, then yes i can tank and mitigate enough damage in 30v30 zergs, but in pugs when im the only melee character i find it hard when im against a decent enemy force.

I never said i do bad in wvw infact i get more kills then deaths and dont die often even in the 30v30 zergs, but i do have a hard time in the bigger zergs without an organized team with me I usually dont end up dieing, but i end up having to back out real fast.

I know when to use my skills

I know not to blindly charge into a zerg i wait for the right time

I know How to use skills to mitigate

I know WoR

I have played every differetn guardian build out their

I still find range more viable in WvW

Why does only 5 percent of the people use melee (Pugs)

The problem i have is im the only melee person a lot of the time so i get focus fired when i go in, i use my mitigated damage and healing skills which will let me live to get a few kills.

Btw since were one upping eachother,

I have 10,000 badges of honor

I probably kill 10 people to 1 of my deaths

I get most of my kills in smaller skrimishes if im pugging in wvw

If im not pugging in wvw and have atleast 3 other melee people to 30 enemis then i can feal very effective

The problem seems to be no one uses melee in big skrimishes
Do you guys disagree with this? Im talking general population not your organized guilds.

If everyone stopped trolling me and read my posts, they’d see that my main problem is BARELY ANYONE USES MELEE, MELEE WOULD BECOME MORE VIABLE IN WVW IF MORE PEOPLE USED IT

*Not to mention a good ranged character can kite around a non hammer guardian far to easily, theirs a FEW other guardian builds that make it HALF DECENT in stopping kiting, but thats not right imo.

My d/d ele, my necro and my theif HAVE NEVER ONCE DIED TO A GUARDIAN, a guardian is my main so i know where his super uber weakness is unless hes wielding a hammer, and no the teleport meditation has a long cooldown and will allow u to get one hit.

I never said ranged champs are harder for melee, first of all in my post i talked about some bosses not champs, and i also never said ranged bosses are harder for melee i said SOME bosses while using melee are unviable as you will spent 75 percent of your time dodging the attacks OR you cant even hit the boss and he has moves that just insta cast without any animation warning you. MELEE SHOULD BE HARDER TO USE, BUT ALL PARTS OF THE GAME SHOULD BE VIABLE FOR MELEE

You clearely didn’t read my post and read the title and perhaps skimmed over half a paragraph and read it completely wrong.

As it stands, in wvw its so frustrating trying to go pure melee (Im a guardian with gs/staff) NO ONE uses melee, which makes it even harder, i try to run in to smaller zergs and do some quick damage, now i don’t blindly run in and i know melee is supposed to be high risk/reward which is why is propose a SLIGHT buff.

Melee is fine in pvp except a few bosses make melee unviable and / or make range way too easy
Basicly i like how melee is High Risk/Reward but its not enough reward, when ranged is basicly “easy mode” In WvW and especially almost all bosses, melee becomes almost unviable.

Any new player will soon realize gw2 is a VERY RANGED ORIENTED GAME which is ok, i guess but i would like to see melee become a little more effective and not have ranged be super easy mode, which as a player of 500 hours i know what im talking about.

Trying to be a pure melee guardian ( i dont really have a choice everyone dodges sceptor) Is not easy nor fun most of the time, if you see more then 25 players in the enemy party and your not with your guild forget about trying to do any decent ammount of damage and getting out alive (atleast 65 percent of the time).

The WvW problem would be fixed if more people used melee in bigger battles, hence why i said if im not with my guild, this is because i *ALWAYS get focus fired out when i even begin to enter below 1200 range, if 25 percent of the player base went melee in battles then this woudlnt be a big problem, but they wont because its way more easy and dare i say viable to go ranged.

So we need to find a way to get about 15-25 percent of players to use melee as their “main” weapon and not as a situation weapon this is my main gripe in wvw, in bigger battles if i dont have a party that is all melee like me it becomes very very unlikely ill be able to rush in do damage and survive, even when im not specced glass cannon at all im a nice mix i have:

3100 armor
1750 hp
45 percent crit
3000 attack
Plus all my utilty spells are for me to survive longer, i use alteristic healing also plus with might on crit sigils plus empowering might trait plus 5 in virtues and the elite focus elite skill so i can spam virtues to heal, still isn’t enough when your getting focus fired since only 5 percent of the wvw population will even bother trying to go melee in skrimishes and basicly only pull then out in 1v1’s , 2v2’s ,3v3,’s.

IF MORE PEOPLE USED MELEE IN BIG WVW ZERG BATTLES, MELEE AS A WHOLE WOULD BECOME MORE EFFECTIVE

Tell my why only 5 percent of the wvw population uses melee AND tell me why even less go pure melee

Make it all a mega server i’m sure it can be done rather easily, the things you need are already in place, make it so each zone is accessable by everyone in their respective contentint Like example: Gandara fields north america is for all n.a people, if for some reason orr or gandara get full, just make overflows, this would make it so every zone has max pop. possible and is the future of mmo’s.

General PvE content could be so good if the fighting mechanic wasn’t built on the dodge feature and if mob density wouldn’t be so over the top. It’s not just Orr or other end game zones. It’s everywhere. My characters can’t spit without aggroing another three baddies in addition to those they are already fighting. Having an aggressive beast standing at every square centimetre won’t make a game seem more exciting or give off the illusion of content. It just makes the designers look like sadists. The fights are not interesting at all. Since most abilities have long cooldowns fighting monsters comes down to doing an initial high burst then auto-attacking the rest of the time while trying to dodge the myriad of debuffing single target or AoE moves – blindness, confusion, knock-back, stun, cripple, bleed, burn, slow, etc. With only two consecutive dodge chances this becomes old really fast.

Crafting is a waste of time and effort. You can’t craft all stat combinations (what happened to making all playstyles equally viable?) and what you CAN craft require so much farming or money that it’s just not worth it. I remember that in other MMOs crafting was one of my favorite aspects. I went around the world each day and collected materials from nodes or by killing certain animals and then used the collected material to craft something nice. It was relaxing in the sense IRL fishing is relaxing. What happens in GW2? I try to go out collecting from nodes but all the ornery creature in viewing distance jumps on me on the way to the node and on the way back. Because respawn time seems to be 0,5 seconds. Well, okay. I guess I’ll just collect some mats from the enemies then as they seem to attack me anyway. What’s that? Under three hours I managed to get a whole whopping four of a common crafting mat that I’ll need at least a hundred of to advance my crafting level? Well, okay. I guess I’ll just not craft.

So what can I do at this point? PvP is borked, PvE is a bore, dungeons are overtuned, crafting (and actually all loot gain) is based on an RNG that requires more grind than most Korean MMOs. Only thing left is roll an alt and start again just to arrive at the exact same conclusion after a month or two. I paid 60 euro for a game that lasted two months and which I could come back to at any point but won’t because there’s nothing to come back to. Well… at least it’s better than Kane and Lynch 2 : Dog Days. That one was embrassing.

This game has so much potential. The improved looting system that prevents griefing and stealing, the dynamic events and the hearts that replace traditional questing, the stunning visuals, the world and it’s lore, the little cut-scenes, the NPC dialogue, the personal story, the concept behind the home instance and the world bosses. There’s a lot of things here which could make this game THE MMO.

I hope that all these things can be chalked up to GW2 being new and still in continous development so that maybe in a few years it’ll become what it promised to be from the first day. So far it’s a great concept with slightly below average execution.

You said you can’t mine nodes because you die by open world monsters? LOL LOL LOL you must suck hardcore, i have 1 of every class in the game and i have NO problem mining nodes in ANY ZONE EVEN ORR, ORR is pretty easy, i even can solo kill champions and me and 3 other people have completed the huge group events,

I have some problems with gw2 also like

- no guild support

-Lack of endgame

-lack of immersion in pvp, as in no story to wvw, community is divided in pvp because a.net is upsessed with becoming an e-sport

- no guild halls

- not enough skills for each class

- Lack of build variety

- Some ballence issues but their not too too bad

- Again lack of different builds and vairetion between the same classes is a biggy

- Lack of more wvw options

- lack of raids

- lack of harder open world pve content

- lack of good rewards for killing hard enemies

- lack of a good drop system, killing trash gives me same chance as exotic as killing a champion or boss or w.e

please pay attention to the developers

We need more types of pvp that actually lets you immerse your character in it, like wvw but with a story, i mean WvW could have been much more epic if they made it support guilds more in away like say building a guild hall IN WVW!

An example is anet should put in GvG but make it where you can use your pve armor and weapons, My gripe with tpvp and spvp is it completely breaks the immersion and splits the game into two, i really dislike how they split the game into two and i know everyone in my guild agrees.

Their is A LOT of people who only play WvW for their pvp for this reason.

Also why is their no story to pvp like in the first guildwars?
in gw1 we had:

Luxon Vs kurzicks x 4
A Dota style pvp that factions brought, which was AWESOME
More factions battlegrounds
Hall of Heros
Random pvp arena
Guild vs Guild
And lots more that i forget.

These things all had a story, a purpose behind them, plus you could use the armor you earned in pve and it didn’t force you to be a certaint color! (i know they added an option to change this for client side. but client side is clientside).

I missed a lot of things.

Also Man up and put capes in, dont not put capes in because you dont want to have to deal with clipping, this CAN BE DONE it just takes hard work.

Backpacks are ugly and don’t belong on most character archietypes.

Add in ALL weapons for every character (just so every character has more skills because right now its way to little).

Add in atleast 10-15 more utility skills each.

This game isnt complex enough and it seems like with so few skills each class has like 4 builds that are ALWAYS cookie cutter because how the game works.

Making every weapon available on every class can sort of fix this (add more then this too) by giving a bigger diversity of builds.

Put it this way in gw1 i would make my own original build that NO ONE has used b4 and own people, in gw2 this is impossible, ive made tons of my own builds * i invited AH empowering might / vigor traits (plus sigil of str) build on my own without even reading anybuilds on guardian, low and behold when i go to the guardian forums for the first time a variation of mine is stickied, with another thread that had EXACTLY my build further down in the forum list!.

HOW can we have an old school rpg wizard when elementalist is already 25-50 percent of what a mage does (im counting all ellies skills inlcuding the arcane and all the elemental line)

And then for the other non element skills we have a mesmer, i mean im all for a pure mage / wizard class but i dont see where it would work tell me how it can be different, a class needs to have somthing to make it unique and has to bring somthing new to the table or els its useless and anet isnt that dumb.

Some pretty horibble ideas here, one guy suggests we turn classes into races? Orr zombie class? huh? A ghost class? WHAT!? some of you guys really don’t have good ideas, ghosts and orr creatures already have normal classes. Classes arn’t based on race.

Then another suggests a ninja class? Hello? THEIF??!

Thief and ninja may not be EXACTLY the same but its close enough anet isn’t dumb enough to make 2 classes that are almost the same!

Bard – Nope, too close to mesmer.

Chronomancer – Nope too close to mesmer

Guys come on seriously, anet wont make a class thats just a varied version of a different class, gw2 already has this problem we need a completely new class here folks.

I would like another heavy armor class since every other class has 3 of each armor type except for heavy, i want another heavy magic user, but this one i want him basicly the exact opposite of a guardian, make him a death knight, could change the name a little bit if you want because it seems to “WoWy”

I would like some form of deathknight but i cant think of any new mechanics to make him a viable choice.

A devish or paragon seems more like what they will have, perhaps a ranged heavy armor, a polearm / spear weilder

But i would love but i dont think it really would fit with the current professions:

*a Death knight aka Soul Reaper(New name perhaps) his special ability could be 3 special “virtue like” abilities that focus on DE-BUFFING/ SACRAFICING HP / DEFENCE / ANYTHING FOR A BOOST IN SOMTHING ELS for power some ideas:

Soul Reaper – Can use 1 Hand swords,dual 1h swords, Staff,Shield,Scrythe,Polarms,Hammer Longbow Axe. Sceptor,Dagger,Dual 1h axe

Special Class Abilities (Defualt binded to f1,f2,f3)

Soul Blade: Passive: On every 4th attack have a 30 percent chance to apply poison debuff for 5 Seconds on the enemy your attacking [ Active : Aoe apply poison debuff for 5 seconds to a small radious but also infects yourself] Coodown: 60 Seconds (untraited)

Blood Sacrafice: Passive: if your health is under 50 percent you do 10 percent increased damage [ Active : You do 10 percent increased damage for 20 seconds but sacrafice 15 percent of your health ] Cooldown: 60 (untraited)

Sacrificial Pact : Passive: If an enemy critical hits you have a 30 percent chance to gain 5 stacks of might. [ Active: sacrafice 25 percent of your hp for 7 stacks of might for 20 seconds] Coodown: 70 seconds (untraited)

Stuff may or may not be ok, considering i didnt mention traits, base stats, utlitie skills,weapon skills but i’d like him to sort of focus on moving on stat to another stat temprorely giving a boost in one stat,

while getting a loss in the other one temporarely, i know the gw1 necro had stuff like this i’m not sure the gw2 necro has this stuff, i mean i know he has like 1 skill thats SORT OF SIMILAIR but not really, this guy
Could also move around his others stats other then life, like lose defence for dmg, or damage for hp or whatever the possibilities are endless

EXAMPLE (Skill / trait to sacrafice power/crit for hp/toughness)
( Trait: Turn life sacrafices into attack/crit sacrafices and turn the dmg buffs into health / vit buffs (Now this one may be too extreme but is an example of how some traits COULD WORK )
,and imo its a pretty new game mechanic that i dont see being used yet, but has been in gw1 and other games.

This classes strong points ; 1) dps 2) dps with conditions 3) a mix of dps with conditions and not 4) An exellent dmg dealer,
IN GENERAL he would be looked at to do a little more dmg then a guardian, but with a little less survivability, this is overall on average he can still be designed to be a tank (Skill / trait to sacrafice power/crit for hp/toughness)

some traits could be real interesting, perhaps when he loses life to a skill a trait could say 30 percent chance to proc regen buff when using a sacrafcial skill.*

Dealing with shady players in fractals?

Ive had this happen, went afk for 3 minutes because son started crying. And them During the jade maw right after we beat all the prior 3 fractals,, right when i was at the end and we killed boss they kicked me, i asked why they said because i went afk. (3 minutes afk said brb and said sorry and it was at a non cruicil part n the fractal too).

They sure didnt care for the 3 fractals AFTER and had to kick me at the end, they couldnt have jus kicked me then, this kitten me off they were using me AND THEN GRIEFED ME ( i went afk in the first fractal1)

Played for 200+ hours exotic never dropped

I’ve gotten plenty of exotic drops (~200 hours played), most from loot bags in WvW ( 2 this week, one with a rune of divinity and one with a rune of the doylak, Yay!), but also a few random world drops. Also would you consider Lodestones Exotic (They are exotic crafting materials)? If so I’ve gotten a lot more.

I’m not saying I don’t agree with you, I whole-heartily agree with statement #1 and a few others, however I don’t think its nearly as bad as people make it out to be. I would love #6 to be implemented, maybe on a timer like dragons? I’ve always been a fan of epic open world fights adding more would be awesome, especially with a real chance at something unique.

The main problem with open world drops, is they need to be challenging, anet nerfed dragons reward to even worse a few patches ago, atleast thats the word on da net.
