I will keep bumping until this ridiculousness gets resolved. Or an official feature, not bug reply at worst.

This is just ruining what used to be very nice pads.

(Might not be obvious from the picture, but the Koda gloves clip with them too!)

There is slight difference with this game and company’s production server updates. Of course, your Company is telling another Company exact date, time and estimate “down-time” of every patch a few days in advance. They are making money for that program, or it is helping them to make money.

This game is something for amusement, not for making money for living in rl. So Anet don’t need to tell anything when that update will come. It does not affect anybody elses business.

That’s a baaaad argument. So if direct profit is not on the line, business etiquette is not important anymore? At the end of the day, GW2 is as much a piece of licensed software as any other…

I already posted it somewhere… if you have a game where the playerbase is roughly equally divided round the globe, treating any announced times and dates as “our office timezone” is bad etiquette. The fairest thing would be to make use of noon GMT/UTC so everyone gets it the same day, or, at the very least, don’t say “release will be AT x day” when it simply isn’t true for a lot of the people reading it.

I’m always baffled by these threads. I know some of you people understand how programming works. So many things are dependent on other things, and you might not even realize change A broke system B until later on – and then you spend hours trying to reproduce the bug so you can fix it. It’s like you’re playing Jenga but some of the blocks are invisible so you don’t realize stuff was balanced on the block you pulled out until it collapses.

Even a seemingly insignificant change can have unexpected consequences. One person makes a text field slightly bigger (pets can now have 15-letter names instead of 12!*) and suddenly your whole game crashes.

Obviously they want to make sure as much of it works as possible, knowing that when they release it into the wild two dozen people will still manage to break something in a way they never anticipated anyway.

*based on a true story.

As a developer myself, I can only say that the customer couldn’t care less about release problems. Ideally any release stuff ought to be ready at least days before release (we all know that hardly happens, but it IS what passes as good practice). An agreement was made, and an agreement must be fulfilled.

In this case, though, Anet made no binding contract, just a simple press announcement. That doesn’t make people less mad though, the only difference is it doesn’t give them any tools to deal with it.

Oh… thanks for correcting :-) I really didn’t think a game as big as this would get away with not having someone constantly on watch, but I suppose they must know if it’s worth it or not.

Because for some reason they may like to sleep.

Idk, where are the relevant offices based? UTC is roughly GMT so if America, midnight UTC would not be sleeping time.

Besides, your remark is irrelevant anyway. This being a 24-h online game, they needs must have shifts to cover the whole day. Also for the patch release team it wouldn’t be much of a bother to do it “overnight” (that’s assuming they’re Europe-based) once in every while (as I mentioned before, if one international company can do it, so can the other).

I would say that is to be expected. It’s really a bit unprofessional to not announce the patch times. As an example, Riot of LoL fame always announce at least a day ahead the hours in which they will be patching.

I realize the genre is a bit different – in LoL it is a bit more necessary because they shut down ranked games for the duration. But imo it still comes down to organizational skill, not technical reasons.

Eh, since it’s an intercontinental game anyway, why don’t they just patch at some reasonable time like 00:00 UTC. I mean, that’s one of the reasons why time standards exist in the first place, right? :P Also the Wiki uses UTC… makes for much less confusion when comparing time. What do I know what PST or ECT stands for in regards to my GMT+1 ? :P

This way everyone would just remember their +/-X to UTC and life would be easier :P

But then you remember, UTC does not observe DST… bleh, reminds me of this:

PvE - Tequatl/Wurm lack of players

I can understand that. Is there anything I can do as a soloer, though, outside of joining a guild that does these things? I really wish this game had a world-wide chat for such situations…

(I realize the Megaserver change might help, but then again it might not if the general playerbase does not want to do these events)

First off, I play on Aurora Glade, so if the situation is different elsewhere, please tell me where should I try guesting :-)

I’ve taken to trying zone boss runs lately – Golem MkII, Behemoth, Frozen Maw etc. There always seems to be plenty of people doing these whenever they’re up. Sometimes to the point that the boss is dead before I run from the wp if I notice a little late. That’s fine, just need to pay attention to the timers more :-)

But when I wanted to try my hand at even bigger game, namely Dragons and the Three headed wurm, I was deeply disappointed. With Claw of Jormag and Shatterer the situation is similar, enough people do those. But out of the four or five times I’ve wanted to try Tequatl or Wurms, only a handful of people ever showed up, which ofc led to event failure.

I don’t get it. They give the best drops in openworld PvE… is it just not profitable enough compared to effort needed? The Megadestroyer takes the better part of 15 minutes to kill too and still there are plenty of people present. And what am I supposed to do if I want to experience those events at least a couple of times, if not farm in hopes of ascended stuff? Did I just have bad luck and picked a wrong time of something?

How is it that this thread fell out of sight? The reported problem is still there… The Arms of Koda piece for Norns is very much a joke due to how big it is currently. You just can’t take anyone with such gigantic shoulder-pads seriously :P
