Why is matchmaking so bad?

I think everyone’s familiar with the terrible matchmaking of solo que. If you’re not, here’s the two major issues I run into often.

1. Stacked team. For what ever reason matchmaking frequently puts all the currently qued high ranked players on one team and then match them against a team of players a fair bit below them. Often at nights this is top 150 against 200-600 range. Cant you mix the roster up?

2. High ranked players mixed with players that are unranked or off the leaderboards (ie. cant find them on gwshack). I rather not have a que pop then rage at my team because they are playing like a hotjoin. Im sure its not fun for them to be matched up against people that 1v2 them.

I know rank isn’t important but fun matches are. There is hardly any fun matches in solo que. Fix this or there’s going to be no one left. Its already a ghost town.

So anet, why is your matchmaking so bad?

Now that’s just not fair. GW2 had every chance of having a good match making system, sadly anet messed it up (somehow?) because just “borrowing” an already working formula from other games is too good for them. Or maybe they did and someone just coded it wrong, or forget to QA it, or ignored the QA.

All of these are possible scenarios and none of them preclude the others.

Then again it’s pretty difficult to make matches when there are hardly any players.

It’s not fun (for me). I got burnt out after getting all the baubles/secret rooms in 2-1 and I didn’t to go back. Aside from being too large and having too many new mechanics/world it was also very very long, but these are things I’m sure you’ve heard many many times by now.

I’ll finish the achievements, because I am a kitten and I can’t stand having only some completed, but I do so with a grudge, not because it was fun.

Furthermore making everything account bound is completely 100% lame. In SAB 1 I would go and do it multiple times a day on all my characters, it was fun and I got rewarded for it, now it seems like a chore to bring out a single character.

I’ll give world 3 a shot whenever that comes out since Josh seems like the kind of person that learns from his mistakes. (Sorry you got your forum privileges revoked Josh, your honesty and straightforwardness is far too much for anet to handle)

Also, we want to be more transparent with balance, so we’re going to be posting a list of the things that we’re working on now, so that you guys can see balance changes earlier than usual.

I’ll post that in a bit, hopefully today.

That’s wonderful and I won’t hold it against you if you end up talking alot and saying nothing par the course but, if instead of making statements like

We’re going to reduce the rangers passive survavbility
(How? Why? )

and isntead say things like

We’re going to reduce the healing co-efficient on Signet of the Wild by x% (We’re not sure yet), and reduce the duration of regeneration applied from skills and traits by 1 second or so.

I still don’t understand why people are having such a cry about warriors. If it’s not zerker stance and conditions it’s the mace/hammer stuns. I can only imagine it being that warriors were 90% free kills before and now they can actually kill people.

As far the mechanics I think they will hold out at most for a week, maybe less, than either the crying about the increased difficulty/not getting rewards because I’m manning a cannon will grow to such massive proportions that anet will tone something down

or

Players will find the perfect way to circumvent these mechanics and return to spamming 1 (eg old Claw Of Jormag standing in the corner with range). People, like water, take the path of least resistance.

Correct me if I’m wrong here but the “new rewards” was just a chance at the aforementioned useless decorations and ascended weapons or was something else confirmed.

If they made Bosses stronger (more time to kill) without additional rewards (example: more ectos) then this update will fail, even if Bosses would appear “more interesting”.

Why? People have specifically asked for harder bosses for months. Its been one of the biggest shout outs to the devs. They drop ascended mats now too, so technically they have been given more rweards, but no extra work to obtain them. I can’t see how it could “fail”.

I’ve never asked for bosses to be harder. Please reference one of these threads in which the overall opinion is that bosses should be made harder.

How is giving up on Esports going to fix GW2? Giving up on their ‘way’ of going after Esports is what should be said here rather than giving up on it altogether.

Esports can be created without limiting everyone to one mode. Esports can be created if you just listen to the people who play the competitive game the most. If they just gave Necros that buff to deathshroud that they did instead of giving them burning and a megathon laser full of fears, then we wouldn’t have people leaving left right and centre.

Maybe they could move those resources to making pvp Fun or more rewarding or new game modes.

I don’t want to be forced to go at a snails pace. If i want to put the effort or time or gold into smashing through content like a flood through New Orleans than I want the game to let me do that. Let me hold my phallus enhancing +20 sword of grinding high while others struggle. Not everyone wants to ride the care bear express to equality ville.

Achieving something at the same time as everyone else is no more of an achievement than having my hand held and crossing the street. I’m a big boy now anet, I can decide how fast I want to get something without you prescribing how much fun I should be having and when.

Fair enough. Let me ask you this. Do you think you should get an edge over everyone else because you have more gold to spend or more time to put towards your Ascended items? Do you feel proud of defeating someone even though you had an unfair advantage?

The introduction of Ascended gear, as controversial as it already is, necessitates the need for this so called time gating. Beyond just the time required to get an Ascended piece ,there’s also the staggered release of Ascended items. This was completely intentional. If ArenaNet decided to release all Ascended items at once then the players with too much time and/or gold on their hands would likely dominate both PvE and WvW. Sure, they won’t be keeping this edge indefinitely but the fact that they can at all will upset the balance of the game.

Yes and yes, though the pride is also mixed with laughter at their expense.

I understand completely why anet is doing this, of course. As you say the rich players would roll in in new gear and completely wreck all but the most skilled players leading to new players having a bad experience, casuals having a cry about how O/P the new gear is and so on. Clearly anet believes that the revenue they would lose doing this would be more in the long run than say, the revenue they could obtain from the whales that would outright buy gems to convert to gold to buy all the things needed to get their hands on an ascended weapon.

But those types of calculations are better left to John Smith.
