FA took it in the end, after it got flipped twice.

[RET] vs. [TSYM] fights today were intense. You guys are definitely the best guild on SoS. We’re learning a lot from you guys.

Awww that sucks, but congrats for your persistance!

They are pretty much the only semi hardcore wvw guild left on SOS, since most bailed to other servers so you guys don’t have much options to fight anyway.

I think you guys will settle in T3. I doubt you will drop further. You guy did well with your numbers. ^^

Combining NA & Euro Servers for WVW

The 10th place EU server should combine with the worst NA server (24th). And the 7th place NA server should combine with the worst EU server (27th). The top 9 EU servers and top 6 NA servers should not be combined. They are strong enough.

The rest are combined in reverse order.

@grave of hearts Would be rather fun if they wanted to make necro a support class but forgort the part of support called boons but they didnt cause necro is awesome for team buffing when they umm give uhh mmm if mm no this cant be right hmm spectral wall? nah that kinda sux what about……okay you know what nevermind boon buffing is other classes job. Necro is the master of debuffing for teamsupport we can debuff with things that other classes wish that had cause we can….hmm…..weakness yeah thats kinda ok but not really specific to us what about fear mm only 1sec well its more a 1sec daze then and others have 3sec fears so thats not really any good and knockback/down is faar better anyway.

Atleast condition dmg is great on necro whether its an event where you really get to appreciate the cap of 25 or if its when this nice mesmer drops quickness and you go full speed into the bleed cap wall, its things like this that make you appreciate just how well certain things in the game are made.

I am not trying to troll you. But I had seen so many posts like this defending necro, or saying necros are great. I want to point out why this doesn’t work.

Necro got spectral wall. So what? What are you trying to achieve here? Are you going to say in team chat “Hi everyone! Walk into my Spectral Wall plz! ^^” ? In wvw it is way too chaotic and laggy to get anything like that done. Heck, even telling a zerg of players to rally to the commander is difficult. Players just don’t listen ever. For “buffs” there are far better options.

Necro got debuffs and conditions. So what? What are you trying to achieve here? No one in the enemy zerg would even notice, since all conditions get removed in seconds.
And necro start off with 0 condition damage just like any other professions, without traits and equipments. It aren’t like they get higher condition damage to start with.

If you objective is to buff, a guardian can buff much better. If you objective is to kill, direct damage is much better, and can be done better on other professions. Debuff is indeed a unique necro mechanic, but its effect in wvw is very minimal. Other professions can re-apply buffs faster than you can debuff them.

Unless you know the objective of the guy that you are talking to, you cannot convince him that necro is great. You need to know that guy’s end game. Pointing out specific traits or skills won’t work.

For example, when I was running a MM build a while back, I found that Bone Minions dies way too fast against zergs. To fix this problem, I use Spectral Wall to buff my Bone Minions, so they can survive long enough to reach someone, before I blow them up with Putrid Explosion.

So is Spectral Wall great or sucks? Well I can’t say either way. It really depends on what you are doing with it. It depends on your objective. My objective was to keep the Bone Minions alive in a zerg, so I can use Putrid Explosion. For that purpose, its great. But if another player have another objective, it might not work like this. This got nothing to do with L2P. Its purely objective based.

As you can see it is very hard to explain this to a new player. Necro objectives are often very specific. And that’s why it is hard to recommand this class to a new player. It is hard to explain.

When looking at skills and traits, what strike out at me is the total lack of objective for the necromancer. They do not support an overall battleplan.

For example you can’t just say that we have Death Shroud. You have to ask yourself, how is DS helping me achieve my goals? What are “you” trying to “do” with DS?

You can’t just say that we have signets. You have to ask yourself, how are the signet helping me achieve my goals? Are there better options?

You can’t just say that we have a ton of health. You have to ask yourself, how are the extra health helping me achieve my goals? What’s is the battleplan here?

You can’t just say that we have Spectral Armor. You have to ask yourself, how is Spectral Armor helping me achieve my goals? What’s is the battleplan here?

Then we can look at what the necro lacks. We don’t have block. We don’t have any damage avoidance. We have very poor mobility. Our damage is mediocre for the most part. So how big of a hindrance are these to the players in achieving their goals?

I can make many other examples. But I think the biggest problem for necro is that they do not have a clear objective. Everything traits and skills they got is very “vague”. When a newcomer look at the necro, they get very confused. They often just move on to a profession with much clearer objectives.

For example:

Thief=stealth+high damage. And they got skills that help them achieve their battleplan.
Ele=AoE nukes and high mobility. And they got skills that help them achieve their battleplan.
Mesmer=Clones and portal. And they got skills that help them achieve their battleplan.
Warrior=tank and melee. And they got skills that help them achieve their battleplan.
Guardian=buffs. And they got skills that help them achieve their battleplan.

This “vagueness” of the class description and design carries on. For example “attrition” is a very vague term, since all other professions can survive too. “Summoning” is a very vague term, since many other professions can summon. When the class design got nothing specific and nothing outstanding, it really confuses the players.

When a in-game player ask me about necro, I don’t know what to tell them. I can give them a very biased opinion on the build that I am currently using. But that won’t paint the complete picture. The strength of my build comes from the objective that I am trying to complete. If that guy that I was talking to have a totally different objective, my opinion won’t matter to him.

So instead, I would ask the player “What objective are you trying to achieve?” If he says AoE nukes, I tell him eles are better. If he says survivability, I tell him guardians are better. If he says damage, I tell him thief and mesmer is better. If he says wvw group support, I tell him mesmer and guardian is better.

So did I just said necro sucks? Nope. But it is just so hard to recommend the necro to a new player because necros don’t have any clear objectives. It just won’t be fair. It often seems like just a bunch of skills, traits and idea throw together in a chaotic salad mix. Necro is a class that you got to experiment, build up and play for yourself.

For other professions, you have an objective before picking your class. For necro, you have to pick your class first and then find your objective. And many necros never found that objective, since it takes a lot of exploring and time. Many players just moves on.

This is a funny thread. So don’t take everything here seriously. But I am out to prove that the current necromancer does not fulfil any of Anet’s vision for a necromancer.

Necromancers are masters of the dark arts. They summon the dead to fight for them, channel blood energy and rend their enemies’ souls. Necromancers draw on life force and use it to strengthen or heal themselves and others. As a scholar profession, necromancers wear light armor.

1) Practitioners of the dark arts: Not really. Look though the whole skills list of necros. Which skill would you ban because it is so evil and dark? I would ban mesmer portals before any necro skills, because it messes with space-time continuum.

2) necromancers summon the dead: Not really. The minions were never alive, so they aren’t dead. They are just summons made from flesh of the dead. They are closer to golems, made from flesh, than anything else. If they can summon an undead warrior that uses warrior skills, or if you can summon an undead mesmer that uses mesmer skills, then yes we are summoning the dead. A flesh golem was never alive before we summon it, so it wasn’t dead.

3) wield the power of lost souls: Not we don’t. No ghosts ever came to fight for the necromancer. We do not have blinding rituals.

4) and literally suck the life force from the enemy: No we don’t. Life force is only used by necromancer, not anyone else. So other professions do not lose anything at all when a necro gains life force. They don’t become weakened or anything.

5) Necromancers feed on life force: No we don’t. None of the skill uses life force.

6) which they can use to bring allies back from the brink: No we don’t. There is no skill that uses LF or DS that brings back downed allies.

7) or cheat death itself: No we don’t. There is no skill that uses LF or DS that brings back dead allies.

8) Necromancers are masters of the dark arts: Like I said no we don’t. If you want to see true dark art go see Kakuzu, Hidan and Danzo. You must be willing to sacrifice absolutely everything, including yourself and allies, for that extra bit of power for it to be dark art.

9) They summon the dead to fight for them: I repeat no we don’t. The minions are just summons made from flesh of the dead.

10) channel blood energy: There is no such a thing as blood energy in this game. Our life bar do not give us any extra powers.

11) and rend (tear) their enemies’ souls: ooooOOOOoooo sounds scary. Doesn’t do anything in this game though. We don’t tear anything. None of the skills in this game allows us to tear some souls up.

12) Necromancers draw on life force: No we don’t draw anything. We gain LF while fighting yes. But the enemy is still not losing anything when we steal their LF, so no we don’t draw anything.

13) and use it to strengthen or heal themselves and others. No we do not get stronger as we use LF. Sure there is a trait that gains Might as we use Life Blast. However it only benefits ourselves, not others. Not to mention Life Blast doesn’t actually costs LF. Sure there are two traits that heals with DS, but none of those skills actually uses LF. Life Transfer does not cost any LF, and DS relies on cool down not LF itself (unless you run out of LF). It is a farcry to say LF leads to strength and healing, when it is far from the case.

14) As a scholar profession, necromancers wear light armor: Yes we do, which makes us a poor class for melee combat. There is no reason why our dagger is single target and deal less damage than a warrior’s sword.

All in all, none of Anet’s vision for the necro has been fulfilled. There is no clear objective for being a necromancer. And without a clear objective, purpose and goal for the necromancer, their traits and skills are all over the place and in a mess.

Heya T2,

Coron of TSYM, wanted to extend a hearty /salute to both KN and FA. Massive props to everyone who proved all the negative nancies wrong by providing a very challenging and difficult fight to the remaining guilds on SoS.

Despite the most recent goodbyes (not the ones from a week ago, or the ones from 4 days ago, but the ones today) from the next wave of WvW guilds, TSYM is looking forward to more good and challenging match-ups between our new T2 competitors. You guys bring the pain, and your overall strategies are so different than anything T1 is doing (having to deal with maps that don’t all have queues) it gives a different and very real challenge to our teams. Its easy to throw numbers at the enemy, but when you have to actually THINK about where to allocate a limited number of soldiers across a battlefield, your actually forced to use STRATEGY. They way some people run from that word is hilarious!

Good fights, and GG from TSYM!

It is unfortunate but you guys are going though the 2nd phase of mass transfers. That happened to SBI also.

After the 1st wave and the server drops out to T2, the remaining players would fight to try to keep the server at T2. When that starts to fail, and the tier fall “seems” endless, and pugs disappears and the remaining hardcore wvw guilds decides to transfer. To main hardcore wvw guilds, T2 is the bare minimum that they are willing to play at.

It was fun fighting against you guys. ^^

Necro is necro. It is what it is. It does not have that many outstanding strength, and has tons of outstanding weaknesses. You would have to discover the fun of this class for yourself. If you can’t, play another class. ^^

Kain NA is wierd at the moment. We dont seem to have any trouble taking SM or whatever keeps we want, but then we go off and get in a stupid fight with SoS over a tower or something and FA just walks into a free keep.

FA is playing it properly at the moment, taking key points from Kain when the opportunity arrises and dropping a tonne of seige to make it impossible to take back.
This is all good though, another opportunity for Kain to learn how to play against a more turtly server. BG/Kain/TC was all about the open field battles/zerg v zerg and we are clearly a bit out of practise at the simple art of defending our own keeps.

Not gonna lie, we are determined to not go back to T3. I’m sure a lot of us are losing sleep and a good bit of sanity over it.

You guys won’t. Unless you guys lost to SoS they are heading straight to T3. Don’t burnt yourselves out. We are looking forward to weeks of fun. ^^

For WvW staff is the most useful weapon the necro has. It allows for AoE bleeding on a fast recharge.

Other than the Greater Marks bug, there is not much to complain about on the staff.

Its simple. When you are dead you can’t deal damage. And in zerg fights bunker builds gives you the highest survivability. Your lack of damage is made up by your other zerg mates.

When you want to roam, you should go glass cannon so you can kill your foe before his help arrives. When you go with zerg, you should go bunker build.

The way I see it the top 6 servers from NA and EU, so the top 12 servers, do not need merging. They are already very strong.

The rest are fair game. Why not give them all a boost?

The problem though is the ranking situation in EU is not as clear as the ranking situation in NA.

B/c wvw is partly PvE. And most cultural skills are not overpowered.

Without cultural skills Asura would have a clear advantage, being so small and hard to click on.

I noticed the ghostly arms around the necromancer in the official profession page. It looks like the Asuran necromancer is using the power of souls and spirits to ad him in battle. The spirits are ready to push all enemies away and keep the necromancer safe.

I wonder what they are. Are they Grasping Dead? Are they what Death Shroud was supposed to look like? Are they an upcoming or not yet implemented game mechanic? Are they related to Blinding Rituals? Are they just part of the concept art to look cool?

Well, since this thread doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon…

My #1 piece of advice is: cut it to four buttons. You’re never going to get a profession mechanic that uses eight extra buttons.

Sure if that helps balance. I just want to focus on the idea of LF skills right now. ^^

Stealth is not a thief class mechanic, “Steal” is.
Mesmers have access to Stealth as well.

Comparing DS to Stealth is silly.
You should be comparing it to Steal if you’re going for “Class mechanics”

Thief stealing doesn’t shut anything down neither. For example Skull Fear is more powerful than what a necro has.

Is there any other class mechanic or skills in this game that shuts itself down?

The steady stream of other classes coming to your forum to sarcastically ask how to beat you while relaying amazing stories of one necro destroying entire zergs of their best uber equipped, and skilled players will warm your heart.

Be wary, fellow necromancers. My friend got it as a drop, gave it to me since I helped him grind his hall of monuments on guild wars 1, and I’ve learned that, well, it has the same animation problem with the sycthe staff skin.

I’m starting to think anet likes to mess with us. the TWO staves perfect for us, gets animation problems. XD

The shadow scythe should form on the opposite side of the wing, to make it into one single huge scythe. Anet please fix.

Aaaaand TC did what we hoped to do, stay in T2 with the current points.

We’re currently back in T3 again…. by 0.07 rating. The matchup still isn’t over and it will be really close, but the only way we could guarantee us staying in t2 is if we manage to beat Kaineng. Even closing part of the current gap will go a long way. However, seeing as TC’s getting hit by both enemy nightcrews, it will be interesting to see what happens in the next 34 hours.

I feel sad for you guys that both DB and YB is throwing their matches. Else you guys had a legitimate chance to stay in T2.

So when you get down there, own both of them +695 constantly and get back up here.

Green > Blue > Red is the expected outcome of every match. Highest ranked server in a match is green. So… the rating system is working.

But only in wvw is the expected outcome true 99% of the time.

No one flanks because a zerg in tight ball formation is already having the maximum advantage. They are nearly immune to AoE damage thanks to the AoE target limit. They are partially invisible thanks to culling. They lag the **** out of their enemy so they can’t uses their skills.

Flanking requires your front line to hold the enemy, while you go around their back to hit them. In wvw that won’t work primary due to the AoE limit. You cannot kill a tight ball formation zerg fast enough for it to be worth while. And if you split your forces, the enemy in one single bigger zerg would kill your front line too fast. They cannot hold. There is no collision detection. A 60 men tight ball formation zerg can literally charge past your front line and kill everything. By the time your flanking army gets there, their zerg already charged though and is turning around again to kill the rest of you.

And tight ball formation is much easier to train than flanking.

I can’t see how this is a smart idea at all.

From a business standpoint, GW2 banks on gem sales. Giving out free gems would kill the economy behind that. Gems would flood the market, they’d drop in the price of gold. So not only are they giving away their assets, but they’d also be putting themselves in a position where they can’t sell them either. It’d be easier to farm a little gold instead of busting out a credit card.

From a WvW standpoint, this would ruin top tiered servers. Who doesn’t want free gems? Large numbers of players would move from the higher ranked servers to the lower ones just for the gems. We’d start seeing servers empty out.

Finally, it imbalances individual play. Only players who reside in the top tiers would be eligible for the free gems and could use them for character advancement. Those who are in lower tiers would gain nothing.

The only correct action here is to close this thread.

Actually anyone transferring into a low tier server would get the same amount of gem. This system doesn’t take into account which server you came from. And no it shouldn’t. It is like a flesh start for anyone that wants to move, and an encouragement for them to move to a lower tier server.

Those hard core wvwers at the very top will not move. They love the team that they are working with. However those small guilds and PUGs in their server would move. That’s the whole point of this idea; A general balancing out of all the servers in wvw population size.

This will hopefully undo all the damage from past server transfers. I only want the best for this game and the gaming community.

^ Here is the definition for attrition. It’s about wearing your opponent down through constant/uninterrupted attack, not countering someone’s plan.

Countering an enemy attack means putting that skill on cool down. So we reduced the enemy’s strength and effectiveness. Countering an enemy’s healing means putting that skill on cool down. That means we put pressure on the enemy’s survivability.

So yes countering enemy skills is indeed a part of attrition.

Can I just say that I completely disagree with this topic?
DS has many uses and even for conditionmancers, Does DS2 give Bleeding? Why yes, yes it does.
DS3 gives Fear? Why yes, yes it does. Fear is a fantastic interrupt and DS3 has no cast time either.

You’re complaining about not being able to use a heal in DS, have you ever noticed that while in DS all your skills on Cooldown (Weapon and Utility) can finish their cooldown while in DS?
Try using your heal and then entering DS, by the time you come out it will be recharged, if not almost. As a conditionmancer myself, it’s the perfect tool to not only CC my foe with Chill and Fear, but still apply some bleeding, not to mention it’s a perfect mechanic to come back from near death with the above tactic I just spoke of.

DS is way more useful then just hitting with power hits, try using it to close a gap from a fleeing enemy as DS2 pulls you too them and chills them (Oh did I mention it bleeds?) or if you need to flee just pop into DS, hit DS2 to chill your foe, dodge backwards, hit DS3 once chill runs out. You’d be surprised how much distance you get between yourself and your foe with just DS alone.
Once you’ve gotten your distance, pop back out and continue with your attrition.

DS has many uses, you just need to get creative with it.
I for one, absolutely love it. Necro’s already have Tier 1 HP (Next to warriors) we can easily add another health bar on top of all this.

Are you really going to DS2 into the middle of an enemy zerg? Are you really going to DS2 next to a mob in high level fractual? I am not saying DS2 is useless. But it is situational at best, usually when you have to chase a already defeated enemy down.

But my point aren’t against specific DS skills. For example I love DS3 and DS4 and use them all the time. My point is against the whole design of DS itself.

I use Well of Blood. When I pop into DS I do not benefit from those extra healing at all. My own skill (DS) counters my own other skill (Well of Blood). And this is far from being the only case. How is this class mechanic fair when compared to thief stealth, which doesn’t disable anything at all?

Sure if you happen to run Consume Conditions your method would work great. But that go back to my point. DS benefits certain necro builds more than others. While a thief stealth would benefit any thief builds.

I cannot stress enough how necros with the current DS system are hopeless in high level 40+ Fractal against high blast damage mobs. I love my necro and I have higher expectation for her than this. You guys should have the same expectations. Necro was one of the most played classes back in GW1. We deserve better than this.

The only DS skill with a niche use in high level fractals is 3. 4 is a decent AoE when used at the right time, 2 has its uses when you need to close distances. 1 is absolutely awesome. Trait it with pierce and you tear holes through enemies. 1 alone makes DS pretty much lich form.

Oh and lets not forget 5 second furious demise/shrouded removal.

What do your ideas have on shrouded removal? NOTHING.

That only applies to regular pve and dungeons. None of what you said would save you from the mob’s high blast damage in high level fractual. That’s why necros went extinct there. It is not because the necro players are bad. There is simply nothing they can do to save themselves under the current flawed DS system.

Your “life force skills” idea seems OP. First of all, 8 extra skills, no cooldowns, and all instant-casts? That’s just stupid and I shouldn’t even need to tell you this if you had any clue about game design. And then you have spammable knockdowns, 3-hit aegis, AoE knockback, and a line of warding? Sounds like you should be playing guardian because all you ever do is complain about the necro.

Most of the skills are counter skills, used to counter enemy attacks. They do not kill the enemy for you. F1, F2, F4, F5. F7. This is for attrition, a selling point of the necromancer.

Other skills are snares, used to prevent an enemy from escaping. F2 and F8. This is for hard to get away from, a selling point of the necromancer.

There are a few skills with damage in mind. F3 and F6. I agree that those have to be balanced.

The main point is that DS should be about attrition and hard to get away from, which is the main selling point of the necromancer. The necro should be a class that deals very medicore damage but have very good counters against enemies’ main strengths.

10 immobilizes/knockdowns that are uncounterable and spammable and instant-cast is blatantly overpowered, and I don’t care how poor your damage is, that’s a guaranteed kill for any player with half a brain.

Your idea is not in line with what the devs had in mind for necromancer, not even a bit. Attrition is not control, attrition is slowly whittling your enemy down while you outlast them. And that’s exactly what death shroud does. Just because you don’t know how to use it doesn’t mean it needs an overhaul.

I would agree that knock down is a bit much, considering that it lasts a few seconds. Maybe it is better to knock back (only last 1/4 seconds) instead, so it is used sololy for ranged interrupts.

Attrition means frustrating your opponents, because their old trusty game plan do not work. Necro should be about countering the enemy’s game plan. It is a combination of controlling the enemy’s attacks and slowly wearing down their cool downs and health.

Remember that those skills are not spam-able. That’s are common misconception. Each skill costs 20% LF. They must be used situationally.

Yea. Any concept that “pays” a player to transfer, is arguably going to be problematic.
Especially in light of how fracked some servers are, due to the free transfer hoe-down.
Heck, what stops a T1 Guild from coming to my server or ET for a week, then saying
“screw you lot!,” and going to a T2. Then, that extra manpower may just prematurely
bump said T2 into T1. Logically, if one’s left T1 once, they would do it again. Thus the
cycle would become something of a closed, self-perpetuating system.
Now, I do appreciate your attempt to thoughtcraft a way to buff the lower Tiers a tad, and your attempt to add a cut-off. The problem is that, let’s be honest – there are folk with multiple accounts. Those persons could really throw things outta whack …

Don’t be so discouraged. Many of the guilds that do come down would stay. That’s specially true if you guys show them hospitality and a warm welcome.

You will be surprised how many guilds are tired of the high stress wvw in high tiers, and want a more relaxing environment to play for fun. This system just encourages them to do so.

Don’t treat everyone that transfers to your server as bad people, and they won’t be bad. ^^

On all class forums people make these post on how to fix X class and all big changes. Anet can barely fix 2 bugs a month from all classes and people think they can total rework is not even possiable.

Anet’s efforts are just focused elsewhere right now. When they get on us necros we will see improvements. ^^

I like the idea about paying gems to transfer into the higher tier servers and get rewarded for going to the lower tier server but one thing I think that could possibly be a flaw is creating an imbalanced match if a lot of people plan on transferring to one certain server.

Like I said old rivalries would hopefully prevent server stacking from happening.

Nothing said here is against any forum policy so with this being an open forum we are just as entitled to voice our opposition to your efforts to take people from other servers as you are to attempt to do so.

I think many people’s definition of “trolling” is a little skewed. Trolling implies that we are doing this just to make fun of you. I genuinely oppose what you guys are doing and wanted to voice my opinion on the matter. Just because someone disagrees with you doesn’t make them a troll. Get real people.

When SBI dissolved, the people that left were often the MOST hardcore players. They already sacrificed a lot of time for the server. But they were burnt out and got to leave. I don’t blame them.

He means that people that tend to bandwagon, will all just agree to bandwagon to a low server and ride it to the top and get paid to do it.

It is going to work though. That means the top servers would lose some guilds, weakening them. The bottom servers will gain guilds, strengthening them.

Thanks to the old rivalries, not every guild are compatible.

Look at those SoS guilds. They could easily have went to SoR, but they didn’t because SoR is their current enemy. They could also have went to JQ and make that an even more crazy server. Again that didn’t happen thanks to old rivalries. Rivalries does have an impact on where people end up.

So no I don’t think all the bandwagons will all go to just one server. They will be spread out across multiple servers, avoiding their rivals.

I do agree that possible abuses need to be looked at carefully before this is implemented. Like people going to rank 24, and then 7 days later go to another server, and still end up earning gems.

The idea is simple. People should get free gems, a lot of free gems, for going to a low ranking wvw server. This should be a one time only offer for one single transfer per account. Future repeating transfers will always cost gems.

For example: Rank 1 to Rank 24 of North America.

Transferring to rank 14: Gets 200 gems
Transferring to rank 13: Gets 0 gems
Transferring to rank 12: Pays 200 gems

Transferring to rank 3: Pays 2,000 gems
Transferring to rank 2: Pays 2,200 gems
Transferring to rank 1: Pays 2,400 gems

This will hopefully help balance out the servers. Many guilds would take this opportunity to rebuild with the new gems on a low rank server.

It should be 9 instead of 25.

Explanation: 9 is 1 higher than 8, necessary for 2 flame rams.

I understand that red and white are the primary colour for GW2. But sorry it is really hurting my eyes. I find it really eye tiring to browse though this forum.
